This was one of the first spots I tried in Ballard, and still it's one of my favorites! They have a very affordable happy hour, and even the regular menu is properly priced considering it's all small dishes. The cocktails are great, and the sangria is not to be missed. They have a full bar though, so if you're more of a beer person no need to worry. I'm always comfortable here if I end up by myself, but it's been great going with friends as well, and it can be quite cozy for date night if that's what you're looking for. read more

After two visits to Ocho within the month I feel comfortable in making my review. I like Ocho! I like their delicious menu items. It is a fabulous place for tapas and drinks. Conveniently located on market Street in Ballard you can easily spot this place on the street. My favorite dish after visiting twice is hands down is the fried goat cheese. I tried several other appetizers and they were all good. The garlic shrimp is absolutely . The first time I went to Ocho the only downside was the bathroom. There were a gang of flies there and I felt like I was about to get jumped. But I love how the restaurant is taken care to use the space. It is a small restaurant but still a great place for groups. I don't know how they work their sorcery but it's true! I'll definitely come back here for the food and drinks and super cool ambience. read more

We went here for a late tapas night and were so glad we did. They had some really interesting drinks and they made a mocktail for me which had a very delicious guava flavor. The ambiance is intimate and perfect for a fun romantic night! For food we tried the following: seasonal special corn ricotta pasta, spicy shrimp in white wine, Tortilla espanola, roasted eggplant and goat cheese croquettes. Everything was delicious but our favorites were the corn ricotta pasta and the spicy shrimp. The flavors were off the charts! The service here was also top notch and they were very attentive and made some really good recommendations. Great atmosphere, friendly customer service and the food and drinks came out really fast. We got a sangria, a mock tail, croquettes and a sirloin steak tapa. The sirloin tapa was seasonal and pricey ($20!). The meat was good but the price seemed steep for three skewers on a bed of yuca chips (which were pretty salty). The food at Ocho is delicious! If you're looking for quality tapas that are not gonna break the bank, this is the place for you. The highlights for us were the stewed chickpeas and greens & the fried cauliflower dish. Both were on the "bigger" tapas menu, and getting both would have been enough for me for one meal. My boyfriend also loved the date and prosciutto dish and the croquettes. I will say, the indoor seating area is very small. So, it's not the best place to gather during COVID times if you are worried about contracting the virus. Also because of this, you should call ahead or try to go during down hours. Very delicious and fun small plates. The service is really good. I recommend ordering at least 2 rounds of food as there are so many different things to try. My favorites are the patatas bravas and the deviled eggs. It can get a little loud so if that is an issue for you I recommend going right when they open. read more

Great food and friendly service. I love the atmosphere and the $5 drinks are totally great during 4-6pm happy hour (I got the sangria and it was strong but delicious). However, I gave it 4/5 because the dishes are way too small for the price. The menu is misleading because it might be $4 for an item but it comes with one bite on the plate, so even if you're doing "tasting" for more than one person to have a bite you need to buy two. Not a fan Update: I went back during non-happy hour. I stand by my statements about the pricing being expensive, but at least they give you more food when they charge you more during normal dinner. read more

Been looking forward to coming here for a while as Spanish tapas are one of my favorites. Came in here on a weekend day and ordered a good variety of tapas to try out. Some dishes were great and some not so great. I'll start with negatives and end with high notes. Do stick to the cocktails here and skip the coffee. Cocktails are yummy here but the coffee really leaves you feeling really perplexed if there was any coffee beans utilized? There were a few dishes that were also under-seasoned like the dumplings and queso con lentejas. I was curious where the delicate squash and braised greens were im this particular queso dish. The service here was good though they seemed very busy. I really enjoyed the garlic level of the gambas and the sauces accompanying the sardinas. I would probably get those again but be aware that you will get 4 small shrimps for 10 dollars. Overall, Ocho has a pretty nice selection of tapas but be aware some are better than others. I'd like to try other dishes and the ambiance seems like it would be fun in a larger group setting. read more

Tl;dr: Order the Croquetas Borrachas and the Patatas Bravas. I found this tapas bar while browsing participating restaurants in Seattle Restaurant Week, and while they didn't offer the SRW menu when we went, we actually preferred it that way! We ordered tapas based on the recommendations from my Spanish friend and they were really good, especially the the croquetas (I cannot emphasise how good this was. We ordered it several times in our one sitting ) and the patatas bravas. I however do not recommend the Tortilla Espanola - it was too dry and tough compared to ones I've had in Spain. Everything else was For those not familiar with tapas, typically each item listed in the menu is one serving. For example, when you order a deviled egg, you quite literally get a single half of an egg. So beware when you put in your order. read more

TLDR: Deviled eggs are really good. No flavored rum. Very dark at night. A bit loud and cramped so expect to speak up over your small table. Limited side table seats and a bar (it is after all a small bar). Extremely dim atmosphere at night. No, opening your eyes wider won't help you see better. Paparazzi beware of low light conditions! I felt so primitive eating with the tiny tea light next to my meal. The tightly packed and dark setting just about made it feel like I was a caveman. Don't get me wrong, it's a nice place to hang. Ladies and makeup beware--you won't see most of your artistic facial work here at night. Service: seat yourself, order at the table, check will be brought to you. They do not carry flavored rum. Menu items are a bit hard pronounce if you are not a native speaker. I just resorted to the old fashioned pointing at what I wanted since it was loud anyway. The alcohol menus is pretty elaborate--they do custom drinks too as long as they have the right stuff. Deviled Eggs: the best thing on the menu. Sad part is that those suckers cost $2.50 each. I'd sit here and eat them all day otherwise. Nice tang from the capers and the yolk is so creamy and melt in your mouth. The salmon roe was also a nice touch. Garlic Bread: oh so warm and tasty. Just the right amount of crunch on the outside and soft on the inside. It was a bit on the salty side just by itself so we didn't use much of the butter or olive oil that it came with. Fried Potatoes: fried to perfection--crisp on the outside and soft inside. Beware that red sauce is spicy! If you can't handle it, I suggest requesting it on the side because it is poured over the potato mountain like lava! read more

I've been to Spain a few times and have been SEARCHING aimlessly for a good Spanish restaurant -- come to find out it's right under my nose in my own neighborhood! Ocho has the best tapas offering in Seattle. The staff is super friendly and made some A1 recommendations, even though I really enjoyed the taste of everything we ordered. I would have to highly recommend the Bistec, Gambas (shrimp) and goat cheese croquetas. So filling and delicious. We also got the Jamon EVOO toast, so good and satisfied my periodic craving for Jamon Iberico. Sangria Rojo was OK, I think I would opt for a different drink here if you're not too keen on brandy but their drink menu is pretty extensive so there's lots to choose from. Seating is cramped even with their outdoor tables, but they were super accommodating for my dog and even offered him cucumbers! Such a nice gesture, although he didn't care for them very much haha. I stumbled upon this place while in Ballard, and it was such a nice little surprise! Having recently visited Spain, I was excited to have some of the tapas which I so enjoyed while I was there. It is a tapas place so better if you come with a small group - like max of 4, otherwise it might be hard to squeeze everyone in. Intimate place and the food and drink servers are young and energetic. Folks reading my review will know that my go to drink is sangria. :-) Started with 4 items per server's recommendation. Ordered s fifth one because it sounded interesting. Boquerones - 3 Spanish white anchovies seasoned with chives and oil. Tasty and without that strong anchovies taste. Croquetas Borrachas - 2 fried drunken goat cheese + romesco. Not sure what that means. Did they make the Goat drink first before milking it for cheese? Anyway, it is delicious. I was expecting a strong cheese smell and taste but nothing like that. The friend balls are battered and crispy on the outside. Bite into one and the inside is soft and gluey (in a good way). Setas de jerez- sherried mushrooms on toast with arugula micro greens on top. It also has chili flakes so has a slight pinch to it. Gambas al Ajillo - 4 spicy garlic prawns in garlic white wine sauce. Very good dish to order. The spicy is less spicy than the setas. Ordered the 5th item of Coca con Jamon y huevo - jamon serrano with soft egg on toast. The egg is soft but ordinary. Not like those Japanese onsen eggs. It was closer to hard boiled eggs. Tasted good but not spectacular. 4 dishes for 1 person is probably plenty. read more

This is a small restaurant that you'll generally need to be lucky to get seating for a larger group. Luckily we were a group of 3 and were able to secure a table early on a Saturday afternoon. We tried the bread (with sexy oil), gambas (shrimp), potatoes, and meatballs. The cocktails were so fun and tapas were certainly tasty. We were really trying to understand what the sexy oil was, but couldn't figure it out. I enjoyed Ocho. The service was very nice. The waitress was attentive and pleasant. The place itself is a small restaurant with a cozy feel to it. I loved the paneling on the walls. We came by for lunch and had a couple of different tasty treats. I'll highlight a few things that stuck out. The almonds where ok. Served cold with some form of oil on them. There where a few flakes of salt on the top ones. I would love to see a little thing of that flaked salt come with the almonds so you could add more. The almonds with the salt where wonderful. The Bread with the oil and butter was very nice. However we got the cheese add on, there was way to much cheese for the amount of bread given. Like a 1/4 portion would be great. I loved the sardines! So rich and amazing in flavor. I will warn they give you 4 and unless you really love that rich flavor it was too much for the two of us to split. Those where the stand outs. Most of the dishes came in 1 or 2 so great to split not much for leftovers. I will be back in the summer to hang out outside with a drink and some tasty treats. read more

I've been to Ocho several times and each time has been great! The menu is decently sized with a variety of options that are dietary-restriction friendly. There is a long list of house cocktails and a small draft list. I've sampled about half the menu and have not found an item that I didn't like. Highlights for me included the patatas bravas and the croquetas borraches. The cocktails have some unique flavors and are very interesting. The space is fairly small but feels comfortable and warm. The service has been good but not overbearing. Friendly servers with knowledge of the menu, albeit a little slow sometimes. The prices are probably the weak point. I think if it was 15% cheaper it would be a little more accessible, but it's not outrageous at its current price point. read more

The food was 4 -5 stars worthy. But the other factors bumped this place down for me. I would like to share that I know they can't always be perfect but the waitress that assisted us for part of the night was less than charming. A bit impatient, not welcoming considering we were new to the place, and seemed to rush us out because she wanted to seat others. The other waitress however was kind as patient and helpful. So it's a toss up I suppose whom you're seated by. Overall it's a very small but intimate and charming atmosphere, it has quite the setting located in downtown Ballard. Parking will be rough if you're coming on a weekend evening, but not impossible. I would highly recommend trying some of the cheaper plates as well as some of the seasonal dishes. I think they have outstanding flavor, and a very good idea of doing a few things - but doing them really well. My friend who has some dietary restrictions was also able to find something that she enjoyed. This is definitely a spot to check out! Even if it wasn't someplace that I feel welcomed back to you, it still is a nice place nonetheless. Also-I recommend checking their availability on Google.
