This is a review of Steak Easy Yes we saw all the Instagram posts about this super cheap and yummy steak pop up and we had to investigate, and boy yes they were not kidding, it was yum, now again its not asadero or even traditional steak yum but the premise is cheap steak with flavorful sauces on a bed of tallow fried fries and it fulfilled all of that. I do believe that the steak might be sous vide (not sure but they also use the same technique in their other restaurant, so lets say its an educated guess) with that in mind the steak might have been just a tad over. We ordered the Sichuan Au Poivre 4oz & Chimichurri 8oz and they were delicious. An absolute yes I'd be going again if I could 1000%

Another culinary venture from the dynamic duo, JP & Boss. They are the brothers behind Secret Congee (Shilshoe), Ginger & Scallion (Stumbletown), and Okonomiyaki Jiban Ya (Northlake). This is a pop up hosted at Janet's Stumbletown, a stone's throw from Ginger & Scallion. This is for an initial two month residency Wednesdays to Sundays 11am to 3pm. First, pack your patience finding street parking in this busy retail & residential area on NW 65th. I was eventually able to find a 2 hour slot nearby. I was the first customer in the door for the soft opening. It was great to see both Janet (owner of both Stumbletown and Chocolat Vitale) and Boss onsite. Orders and payment are placed at the register. Good to see JP and his team also at the kitchen line. Various seating at Stumbletown: bar & counter seating, booths, and as one to three tops flanked with a banquette. Pleasant interior with natural light and a decent soundtrack overhead. I ordered the Caesar salad and the House 8oz sirloin cap steak with mushroom bordelaise. I stuck with water, but other beverages can be ordered separately from the Stumbletown bar. The fries/frites are cooked in beef tallow. The sirloin is prepared with a garlic butter thyme baste. The menu has both 4oz or 8oz steaks and three sauces to choose from. I enjoyed the Caesar salad. The butter lettuce was well dressed with accompanying parmesan cheese shavings and tiny croutons. The frites were topped with the steak slices, thinly sliced mushrooms in the red wine sauce, and garnished with finely minced shallots and chives. As my first meal of the day "brunch", overall this was nicely presented and prepared. Packed full of flavor and left satisfied but not stuffed. Just right and completed in about 45 minutes. Doable if one has to get back to work. Might want to get coffee after to stave off any potential food coma, lol. I'd rate this 4.5, rounded to a 5. Great dining choice with earlier hours that's easier on the wallet in today's economy.

Stumbletown! What an amazing food spot! This is the same brothers that own 3 different restaurants and each one of them is truly delicious! For this one it's called a "pop-up" and if you look on social media you see them everywhere. This restaurant is known for their streak frites. You can have a 4oz or 8oz sized steak or duck breast and can either pick mushroom sauce, a peppercorn or Chimichurri. We asked for steak with mushroom sauce and duck breast with peppercorn however they were out of duck. So we both got steak one with mushroom and one with peppercorn! We also tried their lavender lemonade which was also delicious and perfect on a hot summer day. This restaurant is so good that they serve till they run out. They don't even ask how you want your steak and it comes out perfectly! This is a highly recommended restaurant. I can't wait to go back!

The steak was fine - honestly nothing special. The beef tallow fries were greasy and there was oil just leftover on our plate. The fries had a texture of dicks burgers so if you're not into that, I'm not sure you would enjoy it. The overall steak and duck kind of just taste like your friend who's average at cooking said they would make steak fries for you- but for $25 (for 8oz) it's not the worst deal in Seattle. The service is what made this whole experience fairly subpar. You have to stand in the middle of the service line to order- there's not enough turnover because it takes them 45 min per party to make and serve your order. So you're just stuck standing in their service line. Cutlery is hard to get- we shared one steak knife amongst 4 people. Water was also a scarce resource. Overall it's a lot of hype without any kind of service to support said hype.

After seeing the Steak Easy Instagram post we decided to try. Very nice easy going vibe. Music was great and I felt comfortable in shorts and a golf shirt. We came at a chaotic hour but were lucky enough to get a table. Ordered a couple of glasses of wine and two different steaks and frites. Staff worked hard to serve everyone. This is definitely a bar with a lounge vibe and not a restaurant but the steak and chimichurri is very good!! Steak was cooked perfectly and the chimichurri is perfection! Mushroom gravy was delicious but we did not have a lot of mushrooms. 8 ounce steak is $25 and 4 ounce is $15! That's it-no decisions or demanding requests-eat and enjoy!

Came to check out the hype....was not sad! Listen, steak frites $15 for 5 ounce, $25 for 8 ounce! WOW! Is it the very best I have ever had? No. Was it fantastic, a fantastic value, super tasty, great energy, great concept? All 100% yes! Bonus points, the bartender Jake was SLAYING it! This is really a great vibe and worth giving your money to! I felt a bit like I got over and was absolutely satisfied! Walk in, place your order, (they only do one thing) get it and love it!

    Beef with Sichuan sauce

Holy moly.... I've literally been dreaming of this place. Last time I've gotten steak frites it was divine but just so... small..... and for an exorbitant price. So imagine my reaction when they announced this new concept!! We ordered the duck with the mushroom sauce and the large steak with sichuan sauce. The fries are heavenly with it being fried with beef tallow....... The beef was so tender and the ducks as juicy and not gamey at all. The sauces paired with any combination so so well, though I did favor the mushroom sauce the most as the Sichuan flavor was too mild. Both were very delicious and I was very satisfied! I can't wait to try the chimichurri next and good luck on their next endeavors!

Worst service ever! We waited over 2 hours just to place an order, only to watch the person taking orders repeatedly put other customers' orders ahead of ours, even though we had already been waiting. There was no organization, no fairness, and no explanation. Completely unacceptable. This place is overhyped and a waste of time. Steak was very chewy!

I heard about this gin-focused bar and restaurant from a friend and had to check it out as gin is my favorite spirit. It's not a common favorite for others, and I often find most menus to be lacking in creative gin specials. Stumbletown fixed that problem for me. With a dedicated menu for gin cocktails to an extensive array of different distillers, I was amazed. We enjoyed our cocktails thoroughly and also enjoyed some light bites. The arancini was a special of the evening and came out perfectly hot and crispy. The calamari was also fried very well. I did dock a star because about 80% of the food items on the menu were unavailable even though it wasn't closing yet. We did also get a little lost and ended up at stumbletown's sandwich shop before we found our way here. Luckily they're close by each other!

The food is never disappointing here. The chef takes considerable attention to both the prep of the food but also presentation. There's a lot of pride apparent with the service staff -- from the bartender who is so highly articulate, to the chef who takes such pride and the dishes. The menu has undergone some really nice evolution in the last year and a half. I have never thought of myself as a particular fan of meatball sandwiches but after trying the one here during happy hour I would say I'm a fan. I love Freedom to try one of the 285 varieties of gin...on the rocks. I come with one particular friend who is a big fan of the Japanese gins, and we explore a different bottle every time. If you've never tried their house gin and tonic it's delicious because the tonic is unique and locally made. But I probably find the Spanish gin and tonic my favorite. Large pieces of sliced cucumber and pink peppercorn. Don't forget dessert here. There is a film noir theme to most of the posters and a wall of windows that brings in amazing light. I like to sit at the bar just because it gives me a little more space, but it's also nice to hear the people you're dining with when you're sitting at a table or in one of their booths.

We ordered munchies and drinks while we waited for our table at Delancey. The bartender / server knew we would be headed to Delancey in 40 minutes or so, and handled things well accordingly. We got a plate of olives (tasty, great finger food) and drinks. The Yonder cider was good, not too sweet. The Martini was tasty. I had two quibbles: The first was with the pricing: the martini was charged as two separate items: 1) gin (I suppose the charge varies by the kind of gin or vodka in your martini) 2) martini (which is apparently the non-vodka or or non-gin part of your drink) While I'm sure this makes it easier to track for the bartender and inventory, as well as for charging, as a customer, it's a little odd to have a mixed drink be a two-part charge. The second was the included 20% automatic gratuity. I don't object to the concept of a standard service charge, I just wish it had been more prominently displayed so that I wouldn't have added a 20% tip on top of that (and my tip was on the amount that included tax, service charge and drinks / food). So, buyer beware ... the service is good, the ambiance is nice, the food and drinks are good -- but the payment / billing is non-standard, and can cause unexpected surprises.

I am showing my age by saying the restaurant is VERY LOUD, and our table was in a very dark spot in the restaurant. Oddly, they didn't have enough table lamps for all the dark tables. Our server said they "ran out". How does that happen? I stalked a departing table to take their rechargeable lamp. Anyway, my expectations were likely too high going in, and I was annoyed before even ordering, turning on our cellphone light to read the menu. The food is pretty good, though not mind-blowing good like the reviews suggest, and we had one bad dish. They offer varied Khmer dishes beyond noodle varieties, which is a plus. Go if you are looking for variety, skip the fish, bring ear plugs, and hope you have a brighter table than ours. Parking is street only. 3 Stars for the food, minus 1 star for the restaurant environment (unrelated to staff) The Food: k'tiss dip with crudités, $18 - 4 Stars We chose the marrow stone blue oyster mushroom option - p'set. The mushrooms are sautéed in Khmer seasonings, fermented bean curd, and coconut milk. The veggies are mildly pickled. They paired surprisingly well and a unique dish to try. kroeung kumeraage, $15 - 4 Stars This dish has an option of fried chicken or fried mushrooms. We chose the chicken since we already had mushrooms. Kroeung is the Khmer seasoning. Our server said this dish and papaya salad are amongst the most popular. Since we have a veggie dish, we chose this over the papaya salad (which looks great, too). The chicken is lightly fried, not crispy outside, super tender, and paired well with the kroeung aioli. trei chmouy tuk tei omperi, $40 - 1 Star The menu says serves 2 but not really. The is a pan seared fish, make your own fish wrap. We did not know we ordered a DIY dish, which is ok in principle, just not good to be surprised. The menu doesn't say so; the server didn't mention it. Luckily, by this time of the meal, we have acquired the little table lamp, which enabled me to see the long fish bones that had not been removed. FIVE of them. The noodles are a pathetic overcooked limp pile. The best part is the turmeric sauce. Do not order this dish. Epilogue: I happened to walk by Sophon this past weekend. I was surprised to see a sign saying they are temporarily closed to resolve internal issues. (See photo) That is never a good reflection of management. There is now a GoFundMe for the unpaid staff who had to quit their jobs.

Seemed perfect - cocktails, easily accessible, with tasty looking drinks and snacks. When we arrived at 5:30p on a weekend evening , it wasn't that busy, particularly closer to the bar, so we sat at a table with no people close by. In contrast, there were two groups talking in conversationally norm tones closer the entrance and window. After about 20 Min, a server who didn't originally serve us (apparently the owner) told us it was "quiet reading time" and just repeated the phrase in an annoyed, condescending tone when we tried to ask for clarification regarding what that meant (she seemed to intentionally ignore us despite by friend trying to flag her down 4 times ) . We subsequently asked our original server if our modified whisper level was acceptable. She said "yes" And actually kindly asked us about our hobby. However, the purported owner returned 10 min later , targeting just us (not the people up front who were talking louder than us at this point) , saying we were not complying and needed to close our bill (our drinks were not half-finished at that point). We asked if there was anywhere she could recommend for an alternative to converse quietly, and she bluntly and aggressively stated, "Anywhere but here" to by friend's reasonable question. The onwr then charged me double the cost of my 14 dollar drink ($31) , making not effort to reimburse me and stating that it was my fault for not catching this?!? Huh?!? The owner then proceeded made several concerning, microaggressive, racially concerning statements that left myself and my fellow attendee shocked and sick to our stomachs. I was blown away. I actually recorded part of this on video, but won't post it here unless someone wants a clarification. Next, the owner rapidly escorted us out, though my friend was not asked to pay for his drink. She told Me to "Get out!!!" , and mumbled something that I can't mention, as I am not sure I could believe what I heard. I have lived in Seattle for 24 years and have never been treated as such condescending and insolent manner, let alone by the owner of an establishment that frankly I was excited to check out prior to this debacle. I was looking for a place to gather quietly but apparently they expect you to drink in silence , which was never clarified to me. On top of this, the one person that we could tell was reading, didn't seem bothered when we checked in with her. On top of this, the one person that we could tell was reading, didn't seem bothered when we checked in with her. An older group and separate younger were allowed to carry on despite speaking louder than us (still conversationally , but definitely not whispering as we had been trying to do). Neither of these groups were individuals of color- which I bring up, due to the differential treatment we received despite all of us speaking or whispering in similar tones, and due to the words told to me that I'm having a hard time believing I heard - let's just say I felt "profiled" ... if you know what I mean. In summary , DO NOT come here if you value basic human dignity, kindness, or frankly, sanity. I do not write such negative reviews lightly- Feel free to check my other reviews, which generally are favorable to other restaurants and businesses , as I love to support small, privately owned businesses and entrepreneurs. What I loved: Oh man, every dish was delightful. I found something to savor and repeat in each of the dishes we were served. From the sweetness of the heirloom tomatoes, to the creamy burrata, from the crispy potatoes, to the fresh peas and everything in between. Our least favorite, at the table was the mushroom Angnolotti, inconsistent from bite to bite. The presentation of the Carrot & Tahini dip was a bit haphazard compared to the rest of the dishes served, but the flavor was still lovely. Why I loved it: The service was unparalleled, comfortable yet professional and quick to offer recommendations for our larger party. The decorations and quaint spaces truly welcoming, and the food, excellent. Cost: High ($40+ per person)
