Caleb and Lily took me on my first whitewater rafting trip and completely ruined me (that's how fun and exhilarating and delightful and fun it was). If we can get our schedules worked out, I want to come back next week with my three kids (we live 3.5 hours away in Nashville, TN). I was supposed to be on my honeymoon this week, but we called off the wedding, and I couldn't get a refund on my cabin, so I went by myself. I wasn't sure what I was going to do, so I stopped in at the Cooperhill Brewery the night that I arrived & met Caleb, my guide. He said to contact Raft1 and book a raft for Thursday or Friday and ask for him as my guide. There was only one other person in my group who was rafting solo, so I actually ended up in a four-person raft with two guides. Lily was the perfect balance to Caleb and helped me feel confident. I just followed her lead, did what she did, and we had the best time. Caleb was the perfect guide. He's a great storyteller. He obviously has a great sense of adventure, but he was also concerned for our safety. He kept us laughing, too. After my raft experience, I did a zip line tour with Jamie and Weston. (Sorry, Jamie, for slamming into you on one of the zips!) Weston and Jamie were fantastic guides. They seemed genuinely interested in helping me have a positive experience, being concerned for my safety but also helping to stretch me to do things that seemed terrifying at first (you know, like jumping off of a perfectly good platform). I can't recommend Raft1 highly enough. I wished I lived closer so I could come back more often! I loved every minute! read more

These guys were great! Did a father and son excursion with a total of 6 of us, and the team was on point. We started our day rafting the Ocoee river and our guide Winny (Wendell) was amazing. She made sure all six of us big guys were all positioned in our raft just perfectly for us to hit the rapids at full throttle and get the most of our experience. Raft 1 is only team that adds extra flair when you are out on the water that no other company does, and it was amazing! If I say it, other companies will see what I am saying and will try and do the same and spoil the fun so if you want that extra bit of fun, I totally recommend this group and definitely ask for Winny, she is a professional rower, her skills our out of this world!! Facility had clear signage and was easy to find. Staff took us through a safety briefing before loading up with gear and getting in a van to be taken up to the put in site. There we were assigned our raft, had our safety equipment checked and then we were in our way! We went out with 2 other groups (each a group of 4) early October with guides Adam, Toast, and Kairi. Toast was leading our boat particularly - he was quirky and personable. He gave clear direction and assured our safety throughout the ride while allowing us to get a bit adventurous with our maneuvers! This was my first experience with white water rafting (unless you count SeaWorlds "infinity falls" white water rapids mimic). My uncle, however, has been several times before, and the first time ever flipped out of the boat within the first quarter of the ride! Kairi in another boat quickly aligned herself to pull him into safety, and then "deliver" him back to our boat- he was such a champ and Kairi was deemed his "hero" the rest of the day. Regardless of the "swim", both uncle and aunt got to experience some new things despite having done this a few times before. I think Toast realized we were the "fun boat" and down for anything! He even helped us to do several "360's" along the way. We also all enjoyed the stop roughly midway where we tethered our rafts together, except for one, which we flipped upside down and tied onto a large boulder so we could flip and bounce off the backside into the river to go for a swim! Toast also offered some extra fun opportunities, ie: my wife road the front through a class IV; getting pummeled by water she held strong and it made for a fantastic action-photo that their camera-person captured (available for purchase when you return to the facility). Towards the end he even had the 3 out of 4 of us ride face first at the front through a class III! Overall it was an exhilarating experience for any fit adventure seeking individual- highly recommend! read more

My group and I did the middle River and zip lining combo which was absolutely amazing. Our guide down the River was Olivia and she made everything fun, exciting and safe. The experience was unique in that our boat got turned into a water slide for everyone to jump into the River on. Olivia the joined us with Anna to be our guide for zip lining which was also amazing. I have a severe fear of heights, but they were both so patient and helpful the entire time. My boyfriend and I decided to spend Memorial Day weekend around Blue Ridge. He had never been rafting before so we decided to do the middle trip. Dylan 2 (with the long hair) was a great guide. He was knowledgeable about the area and had a lot of energy. We talked about visiting again and doing the full day trip - upper and middle - and how we'd love to have Dylan as our guide again. Great experience! We woke up to chilly rain and were worried about our trip. We were offered special water jackets that kept us protected from the wet chill which worked well to keep us comfortable. Everything was great from the music on the bus to the enthusiasm of the guides. Most of us were first timers and our guide Spencer did a great job of checking with our comfort level before taking challenging routes. They created a slide out of one of the rafts and gave us all a chance to plunge into the river. So much fun! read more

White Water Rafting with the family was an amazing experience, and Raft One made it fun and safe. I am not an outdoorsy type of gal - the thought of bugs freak me out - but this is definitely something to do if you're in the area. It's the best way to see the mountains. Our guide Mikey T was a cool, knowledgeable "captain" who made it a thrilling ride filled with laughter. We had seven people in our group, and we were all on the same raft. During a portion the river, Mikey advised us that we were able to jump out of the raft and float. It was amazing! Totally do it if you can. It's not that hard getting back in, if that's what you're worried about. What to wear: I wore a bathing suit under a t-shirt and gym shorts with water booties. If you don't have your own, you can buy a pair at the outpost (check-in center) for $10. My husband wore a sleeveless tank and swim trunks with a pair of old sneakers. Both of us were comfortable. Just don't forget to bring a change of clothes and a towel in the car. They have a changing room with showers for when you return. We took the 3 p.m. Middle River route, and after all was said and done, we were back at the outpost by 7 p.m. It was sunny the entire time, and not too hot. I've gone white water rafting twice before, and Raft One is top notch. The next time I'm in the area, I'll choose Raft One again. read more

We were very excited to introduce our children to the rafting world with Raft1. Unfortunately my daughter got COVID 4 days prior to our trip. I notified the company that the CDC guidelines tell us to isolate for 5 days and we could not go on the trip to protect their guides. They refused to give us any refund! We were the only two there for this time (late September and late in the day - we were lucky to get a premium one-on-one experience). Toast pulled out all the stops and we got to experience some awesome stuff on the river. Is it weird that I was MORE nervous before white water rafting than I was about skydiving? My thought process is "Danger! You could hit a rock and get seriously injured!" vs. "If you crash after free-falling from the sky, you die anyway, so what's the use in worrying?" It appears that my brain thinks bruises + scrapes are greater than death. I think it has to do with control. White water rafting is all about taking things into your own hands. You must learn to row together as one unit. It is your responsibility to paddle when you're told to. If the boat flips and you're thrown out, it's entirely up to you to do the right thing and get away unscathed (there's no surviving in skydiving accidents, after all). The risks are real, but it's perfectly possible to have a fun time without any mishaps whatsoever. In fact, I had the time of my life, thanks in no small part to the friends I was with, and our awesome instructor. You'll receive a lesson on when to paddle, when to stop, and most importantly, when to fall into the boat and hang on for dear life. If you listen to instructions, you should be fine. The middle section of the river has class 1-4 rapids, and of COURSE you start off with the most intense class 4. Did you think they'd ease you into it? No. Brace yourself. It's manageable for beginners though, level 5 is where you'd have to be experienced. They actually held the 1996 Olympics at another section of this river. Nowadays, people literally camp out at the river bank and watch the rafts flip as they hit this huge rapid. Yes, even pros get swallowed into the river. This could entertain me for hours. The thrills are just enough to get your heart rate up without causing a heart attack. There are also peaceful segments where you just sprawl out on the boat and relax. I'd say the worst part was getting splashed by the ICE COLD water. Nothing you can do about that, so just bear with it. Before you reach the end, your guide will ask if anyone wants to "ride the bull." Don't ask questions, just volunteer. It's literally a BLAST. You sit at the front edge of the raft, hold on to a rope, and ride the biggest rapids while the rest of them suckas behind you paddle on. Keep your mouth closed. You don't wanna drink this water. Another bucket list item checked off. Next up, bungee jumping? I'M READY. read more

As part of my birthday celebration I decided to take a whitewater rafting trip with Raft 1 on the Ocoee consisting of the Upper and Middle sections which include the Olympic section (class IV+) from the 1996 Olympic whitewater competition. The trip was fantastic from start to finish! The owner Brentt Rogers is incredibly personable and runs a great operation. He has very well trained guides who make you feel safe but also know how to have fun. The trip lasted about 6 1/2 hours from start to finish and included a lunch stop midway through. Our group had a really fun time negotiating the rapids and even had a break where we could hop in the river and float it. Overall I would say this trip made my birthday a very memorable day. There are a lot of companies (including several large ones) to choose from on this river (as it can get to be a very crowded place). But Raft1 is the perfect size. It is large enough to accommodate any size group, but small enough to be able to move fast and stay ahead of the big boys on the river. Out of everyone on the river, it certainly seemed like those in our group were having the most fun. I know I will certainly be back to Cooperhill, TN to run this river again and when I do, it will absolutely be with Raft1. read more

Raft One is fantastic. From the start, they were very welcoming, with great facilities, and plenty of parking. Staff member "Toast" did an extensive safety presentation in a large pavilion that made distancing easy and safe. Then we grabbed our sanitized equipment and loaded large buses for the ride to the put in. Once there, we went through the different paddling instructions with our guide Dylan. Dylan was a total rockstar. This guy knew the river like the back of his hand and made us feel like we were old friends. My hat is off to him, he made the day one of the best my family and our friends have had in a long time. The rapids were intense right away with a Class IV in the first 30 seconds. The river moved quickly, kept us paddling and laughing the whole time. Raft One also is one of two companies that will flip the raft and do a water slide at a slower point in the river. Our Guide Butters (Ben) really showed is a great time. Our son who is 12 had a blast!!! It is a lot of work, but the experience is so AWESOME!!! Watching all the other companies paddle by as we were jumping off a rock onto an upside down raft and into the water made me so happy as this confirmed that I DID choose the correct company to raft with for our first family raft trip!!! Thoroughly enjoyed our trip, my son and I have already decided that we WILL do the upper and middle our next time...middle is 5 miles, however if we do the upper as well, that makes it a full 10 mile trip!!!
