I've moved several times, and this was by far my worst moving experience. I hired Octopus to move some belongings into storage and then move them into my new place a month later. I had a detailed call with them, received a quote, and booked. On moving day, I clearly explained twice which items were being moved and which belonged to my roommate or were staying with me. Despite this, the movers began loading items I had specifically said were not going, including a suitcase I was actively packing and, more concerningly, my backpack containing my work laptop, license, and work ID. They eventually found the backpack, but it created unnecessary stress on an already stressful day. After about an hour, Octopus called to say they needed to send a third mover because I had more items than expected. While I did have a few small items I had forgotten to mention, I had also gotten rid of a large piece of furniture I had originally discussed with them. The additional mover and the extremely slow pace caused my final bill to be about twice my quoted price. I would have understood paying somewhat more, but genuinely twice the cost was a major surprise. I contacted management afterward and had a polite exchange. They provided a small refund, but much of the conversation focused on how I should have sent photos of my belongings for a more accurate quote. I understand that photos can help, but I booked while still packing and expected the estimate to be reasonably close. The second move-in went more smoothly, but some of my furniture was damaged. When I pointed out blue discoloration on my dresser, I was told it was likely due to the rain on moving day. Given that the furniture was wrapped in blankets and plastic, I found that explanation difficult to believe. The mover offered to repaint it, but after a few days, he said that they wouldn't be able to match the paint color. My biggest issue was that the movers struggled to follow basic instructions about what was and wasn't being moved. I understand that mistakes happen during a move, but this caused a lot of avoidable stress, added cost, and damaged belongings. We were moving my dad into housing, and many of the movers I contacted were costly. This was hard as he is on a fixed income. I contacted Octopus and got a very reasonable estimate. They showed up on time and completed the move quickly and efficiently. They even took a gigantic couch out of a narrow door. They dealt with an elevator as well as my especially chatty dad. Highly recommend them! Another thing I appreciated was that it was just the right amount of contact after I requested the estimate. Great job from start to finish! I contacted Octopus because I needed to move several large items, including my grandmother's antique dining set, from a nearby storage facility to my apartment. Unlike my experience with many of their competitors, Octopus promptly answered my call and provided a very reasonable quote. The service was scheduled for a few days later and the movers arrived promptly, loaded the truck and delivered/unpacked everything within the two hour window (1 hour 57 minutes!) I was targeting. They even reassembled the table for me. Both movers were polite and efficient. From what I understand, the company is based in Massachusetts and has recently branched out to the Providence/Newport area. I hope that they will be successful here. We had to move furniture into a POD in order to repair our hardwood floors from water damage. Octopus sent three guys who were straight up extremely friendly, professional, and detailed. We had some good conversations and they ended up being the ones that did the second part of the move a month later as well! Octopus Moving is a local moving service seemingly full of nice people. I communicated both with Alex via Yelp's built-in quoting/messaging service and Oleg (owner) via a brief phone call throughout the booking process; both gentlemen were professional, helpful, and courteous. They were able to find me a 2-person team of movers on short notice (less than 2 days before needing moving help) and were able to work with me on the price since we did not require trucking services. The only hiccup experienced was that the moving pair's previous gig ran much longer than expected so they called to say they were going to be arriving an hour later than the tail end of their estimated 2-hour arrival time window; in the end, they were only 30 minutes late, so it wasn't that bad. The pair of movers (Misha and Yegor) assigned to us were both fresh college grads who had great personalities and work ethic; they were very efficient in unloading our moving truck and utilizing our new building's elevator to move the contents to our 4th-floor apartment. It took them exactly 2 hours to clear out the 15' truck that was once full to all the way to its sliding door, which was impressive because they were ever so careful with all our items, regardless of whether an item was marked as "Fragile" or not. At the time of service, there was a Yelp Deal being offered online that I bought in advance of the movers arriving on-site. However, I forgot to mention the deal when paying them in cash at the end of the night; I reached out to Octopus Moving the next day via the Yelp app and they were able to reimburse me for the promotional value of the Yelp Deal via Venmo that same day, which was greatly appreciated. In summary, I would highly recommend services from Octopus Moving for your moving needs. I hear they aren't limited to local moves either, so keep that in mind! I've moved a lot in my life and this was BY far the easiest move. The booking and estimate was easy to get, mostly done via text and pictures of my place (and cabinets and closets). Day 1 they packed my whole pace and loaded to a truck. 3 people were polite, quick and super efficient. I was was working on and off the morning they were there. and they just moved around me. in and out in less than 4 hrs (one bedroom) Day 2, unload the truck and reassemble my table, couch and bed. Two people, again, quick, polite and efficient. Again, with only two i was worried it might take a while but again, in and out in less than 4 hours. All packing debris taken away. The final cost was not much higher then the lower end of the estimate. Still unpacking but my stuff was treated with the ultimate care, well packed, well wrapped before truck load. They made sure i was happy with furniture placement before leaving. Even moved my plants, no damage. Thrilled i found them. read more

These guys are great! Loaded an entire 1 BR (packed) on a second floor w/ no elevator, (with a beast of a mattress, ~150lbs) about 10miles and unloaded it into a storage locker in under 2 hours. I've hired a good number of movers, but Octopus was definitely my best experience yet. They were super quick and affordable, even when one end of my move was a third story walkup. They even disassembled a big shelving unit for me that I otherwise would've had to throw out. Most importantly, I didn't really have to stress about anything. If I could give these guys 6 stars, or 10, I would. So I am giving them the max allowed! Having said that, this review is a long time in coming. Too long - about 3 or 4 months? Anyway...I need to use them again and that is what reminded me that I needed to write this review. These guys are great! I had to move from a storage unit to my home. They were ON-TIME. There was an alley, and a one way, and they made their way through. Highly professional, never got impatient, never lost their temper, and they were methodical and took care with everything. Then we got to my house. We had to take stuff out of the house and into the garage, take stuff from one room to another room, then had to take stuff from the truck into the house, and then from the truck into the garage. All of this with care (for all three flights of the house), rearrange the rooms, rearrange the garage, etc etc etc. I am not typically this crazy but in this case, I was and so... they were accommodating, polite, took their time, cared about my stuff. Efficient. What can I say? I like them so much that I am going to finish up this review and then get onto their website and schedule another move. This time inside of my home and in that garage once again. If you need to move, you cannot go wrong. If you are not moving and need to have stuff moved around, you still can't go wrong. Using Octopus Moving company was a great experience. They were professional, polite, calm, unruffled, smooth and completed job without fuss. I cannot say a single negative thing. Daniel and Aiden were my movers and I felt it was worth the expense. Nothing broken, nothing left behind. Although, this is day 2 in my new place and there are a few boxes left, before I can say for sure. However, this was my best move ever and hopefully my last. I looked up every potential company and their reviews and hands down, it was the best choice. It costed a bit more than i expected but it was largely due to the amount of boxes I had, and an elevator out in new building, which caused a greater distance to cover between the parking space and my unit. My mother has been preparing to move down to Florida. She has basically a 1 to 2 bedroom house which apparently is considering a small move but long distance when most moving companies want to do bigger moves and shorter distances. My mother was having real trouble finding a place who would help her. She is getting older and we didn't have a lot of time to work with so we were desperate for the help. Octopus moving company was one of the first companies I called and were responsive and helpful immediately! We booked them the next day when they came to the house to get an idea of what needed to be moved. We had the move scheduled for Saturday July 24th. These guys are definitely a hidden gem in the Boston area! Having used two other moving companies for interstate moves before I was worried my experience would be once again similar. Broken items, scratched furniture, guys who would rather be doing anything else other than moving you even though you're paying a lot of money. I called many companies in Boston for my move. Many didn't want to come give an in person estimate and told me to "use the website" for estimates, others didn't want to move me out of state because it was "the end of the month". In hindsight, I'm glad they turned me down! I stumbled upon Octopus Moving Company by chance and gave them a call. Immediately, Alex picked up. I asked for an in home estimate and he said "sure, no problem! How about tomorrow?" (HE SHOWED UP ON THE 4TH OF JULY!!) With that effort I knew these guys were serious about moving. He came, inspected everything, and said he'll be happy to move me, quoting me a reasonable price! On the day of the move they came in and wrapped/packed all my furniture and art work beyond expectation. My piano wasn't this protected even when it was first delivered to me! These guys were motivated, showed up prompt and made an interstate move feel like I only went down the street. All the boxes were carefully loaded, kept right side up (I marked them) and then strapped in so they don't move. When I opened them again later it was as if I just closed them. Every time I said something or asked a question it was, "Yes, sir!" "Thank you, sir" "No problem, sir". Courteous to say the least! They kept in touch through out the trip by text message and phone calls alerting you when they were 10min away, 5min away, and at your door. ABOVE AND BEYOND THESE GUYS! I don't think I EVER moved where NOTHING was broken, scratched, scuffed, dinged, dented, dropped, or lost. FLAWLESS performance by Alex and his whole crew. I'm so happy I found these guys!
