(avoid heavy time periods if at all possible). Sometimes it's standing room only. After church on Sunday's is one such time. BBQ is the best. Not that sticky sweet too much corn syrup, molasses disaster so many call BBQ sauce. If you are into adventure and don't mind tears running down your face as well as your nose, ask them to put their special hot sauce on your food. You'll either die from happiness or wish you had. I did the Mac and cheese, greens, and rice. I'm from MS, so this right here, made me feel at home. And they give you plenty of food! I was told there's a great BBQ place named Odom's but it was on the hood. I having lived in Minnesota said time to go. I took my hoodie, license, 30 dollars cash, and my beater Acadia to check it out. It did not seem so bad as I crossed the bridge then I understood. I backed in for the quick getaway, looked both ways and jumped out. I walked in and it smelled like nothing my Mother ever made, it was fantastic. I ordered the ribs and brisket which came with a healthy portion of sauce and bread to put out the fire. Ribs were great, and the brisket was good but could have used a little more time. Scary BBQ place in the ghetto. The meat was quite good except it came on a grease mop (or was it bread). Usually a nice assortment of sketchy characters are loitering outside and will ask you if you want to sell your car or rims. I brought my dog to guard the car while I went inside and they were not interested in dealing with him. The inside does have a nice smoky flavor, like if you stepped inside of a smoker and were brisket yourself. I would probably have given a higher review if I didn't order a grease sandwich and just had the brisket because it was well flavored (4 stars). I don't care which BBQ place you frequent, you can and will get a bad dish every now. Those are very few and far between at Odom's. The ribs are great. The pies are always delicious. If you're living right AND you get lucky, they might be serving hot water cornbread. If they are kiss the cook and grab a seat. Crunchy on the outside and soft and creamy in the middle... so wrong they're right. Two meat combo, brisket and sausage, with collard greens and green beans. Brisket - Damn so good damn. They drenched it with sauce, but their sauce is slap your mom good. And the brisket is tender, moist, perfectly seasoned. Dare I say, this is my favorite brisket out of universe forever. Damn....DAMN MAN DAMN! Sausage - I liked the flavor, but not really my style. Not moist enough for me. But the sauce made it better for sure. Collard Greens - probably won't get this next time. Wasn't up to my flavor pars. I little on the bland side and pretty oily. Green Beans - tasted like canned beans seasoned. Was pretty good. Would still get it cause they flavored it pretty good like man. Served with two slices of bread. My first visit was to Odoms BBQ 2 and though the food was good, they did not inform me that it would be wet; meaning slathered in sauce...like a WHOLE bunch of sauce. Now when i visited Odoms BBQ 1 the original, i was pleasantly surprised that they actually asked me if i wanted my BBQ wet or dry. The brisket was on point! Understand this: I grew up in West Dallas; I actually worked down the street from it at KFC for over 2 years when I was in high school. With that being said, the place is what it is. You're going to experience less than eager/pleasant employees. They are going to move slower than the molasses that is sitting on Grandma's table. They're going to look at you like you are uneducated or bothering them for coming into their place to spend your money on their food. The BBQ itself is good. It's not great, it's not excellent; it's just good. Good enough to stop here instead of driving further to find better. The potato with beef, chopped beef sandwich, and rib sandwich are fan favorites. I'm even partial to the smoked turkeys that they do for Thanksgiving, but that's about it. The area can be deceiving but Odoms is located on the corner and have his own private parking. Let's be clear it's a mom and pop BBQ corner stone. The food is delicious and the portion are hefty. Best BBQ ever. I went I got the two meat plate. Rib and sliced beef with 2 sides they only serve potato salad and ranch beans. Mom got a pound of sausage it was perfectly cooked with a nace smoky flavor and just enough spicy to make it clear they were hot link but not so much it hurt to eat them. The ribs were fall off the bone and just perfect. The sliced beef practically didnt require a knife to cut because it was fall part good. The potato salad is average nothing to write home about and the beans need work but the meats are killer . If you go get a pound of sliced beef and a pound of ribs skip the sides. I absolutely love baked potatoes & when we go anywhere else, they usually say "oh it'll be 10-15 minutes wait. you gon wait?" Not at Odom's. They told my boyfriend "we ain't got no more potatoes so you need to pick something else" (all kinds of horrible English) so my boyfriend got me a Chopped Beef Sandwich. I got the chopped beef sandwich on my last visit and found it to be just okay. Odom's has been very Hit or Miss for me lately. I think the Duncanville location is slightly better. I really like their sausage links and sauce but the brisket hasn't been very consistent which disappoints me. Well...We ate at Odom's BBQ today and it's an "Old School" BBQ place where you're a bit worried that you could get shot or perhaps your car's hub cabs have been stolen after you eat however it's worth the risk. It does fall into that category of old style bbq joints... being that i don't believe they rub anything and the food is a bit on the bland side. BUT it's all damn good, moist and tasty. The brisket was juicy and tender (rub-less) the ribs there cooked perfect, and the hot links were really good. Also, the sauce was pretty bland and thin but really good. We also got some nice corn bread and the beans were great. We asked for fatty or moist brisket and the lady said, " Oh you want the Old Folks Cut." What a great nickname for flat meat! The service seemed fine. They are direct and to the point but we didn't find them rude as other has indicated. Hello world , Just visit this location off Singleton rd , and I must say what a rude awakening once we entered the establishment. The guy at the front who was taking orders was very rude and small minded. We asked for a menu and he told us that one of us must wait outside because there can be only five people in the joint at a time, which we agreed to, however we just wanted a menu to speed the order process up. However he continued to tell us , one of you wait outside, in a rude tone of voice. After ordering our food and heading home , I asked SH did he put everything in the bag and she responded yes, and after getting home , i discovered that BQue sauce wasn't inside the bag. However after eating our food , which was cold and had no flavor at all, and the potato salad was full of sugar and warm. That's a no no for making PT salad. At the end of this night, we're definitely dissatisfied and disappointed with our experience. Never going back to this barbecue joint again and want recommend this place to none of my friends. Sliced beef and sliced rib sandwich to go is what I got for lunch: $6 each, I was in the mood to sample meats and nothing else. I got the sandwiches for a reason: the bread can soak up the obligatory sauce they add, and I can then enjoy the meats on the dry side. Tip worked well. The sliced beef was tasty though light on smoke: not over cooked and was a joy to bite into and chew. The ribs appear to be the better deal if you want more meat: three meaty ribs cut in half, bone in, were good and smokey and not overdone (AKA fall off the bone was not how they were presented). The place is dumpy but somehow not offensive: the staff at the counter appear to lack charm but are efficient at what they do. Word of warning: they use sliced white bread in their sandwiches, no buns, if that is important to you. read more
