I went to odyssey to sll some gold. 60 grams of 18 kt gold. I was informed that they would pay me $900. Did I mention I was selling 60 grams of 18 kt gold. I declined then went south on evergreen way and sold the gold for$3200 to a pawn shop.. They advertise as fair and honest but if I had been ignorant about the value of gold they would have let me think that was a fair exchange. Bear in mind 60 grams of 18 kt gold is 45 grams of pure gold if it is refined. That is nearly 1 and a half grams troy of 99.999 pure gold. Don't trust odyssey to give you fair value for your gold. Not the place to sell your silver or gold. I brought in some sterling silver scrap and was shocked when they offered me only around 30% of the melt value. That's well below what any reputable shop should offer -- most places pay 70-90% depending on the market. Either they thought I didn't know the value or they were just hoping for an easy profit. THIS COMPANY STOLE $400 FROM ME AND IS REFUSING TO PAY IT BACK I purchased silver, gold, a gun, insanely expensive ammo, and put another gun on hold on a layaway program. I made some major purchases with this company and am not being unreasonable as a customer. I have spent a LOT of money here, and gave them good business! After the down payment, I was later contacted by this company and asked for ANOTHER $200 to continue to keep the gun that is in my name on hold. At that time they did not ask about extenuating cirucmstances or mention a contract or deadline. They told me that was all that was needed. This call asking for money was a VERY LONG time after my original deposit. They were nice enough, and I didn't suspect anything wrong at that time. I have had the same phone number and email and was never again asked for additional money or told that the gun would be taken out of my name and sold. In fact, that was the only call I received. But I knew the gun was in my name and now assumed they needed to contact me to change anything, or that they would call again if it was too long. I was laid off, had to move house, and have been focused on taking care of my child that has a major disability who cannot be left alone, so there is a lot of reason for my not attending to this. I am now working again and contacted the company today to ask about the status of my gun. They told me they sold it 9 months ago. Which is fine. I just wanted my money back if that was the case. But they declined and insisted that I had 90 days to pay for it - which doesn't make sense since they had asked for more LONG after this supposed 90 days. So I have to wonder... If THEY didn't honor this alleged 90 day contract asking ME for money, how was I supposed to realize one was in place? I still don't belive it was in the contract, to be honest. Maybe they have updated how they write their contracts since, but since they didn't show it to me I have no proof. When I asked for they money back, they said no, then asked if there was extenuating circumstances. I did not mention the layoff, because I wasn't even thinking of it. I was mostly shocked to have to defend my request! But I have indeed had some MAJOR life challenges that did indeed cause me to not be able to handle this sooner that I DID tell them about. But was it even their business? It felt invasive to have to tell them! Guess the're good at this stuff. They told me they would not honor that and declined my request for my money back. They also insisted they make every effort to contact the buyer. But when I asked about their reccord of any calls to me, they refused to talk to me about it anymore and the call ended shortly after. I do not recall if I was given a copy of this supposed 90 day contract. I only recall applying for the gun to be moved to my name. It may have gotten lost in the move. But regardless, the contract portion doesn't make sense, as I satated above. Since THEY certainly didn't keep to it! When asking for my money back, they said that they DO have reccord of my $400. But that is all they claimed to have. They said they tried to contact me, but it is NOT in their reccords that they did so. All they got was a nod from the "gun guy" while I was on the phone, affirming that he tried - with no documenation. He actually remembered? Or was it a convenient lie? Who wouldn't try to cover their a** and lie about that when they want to keep the money? Especially when they have a new buyer paying full price and they hadn't heard from me. I did NOT recieve any calls. I would have known since I monitor my phone like a hawk due to my son's needs, and this gun has been on my mind all this time! I searched my email and found NOTHING from them! So how is that making "every effort"? I do not reccomend doing business with this company - they stole form their good paying customer: a single mother of two children, one that they NOW know has a major disability, and who has been laid off. (I hate that I told them any of my circumstances!) I think the worst part is that they asked me for more money. I could almost understand the first $200 of it, but in this case they actually called to STEAL MORE!!! Why coudln't they have just left it at a $200 loss? This seems like it might be extortion. Maybe it is. My lawyer will know! I don't understand what they have to gain by this. I spent thousands at their shop. How could they treat a customer like this? I told then I would be leaving a review since they stole from me. They said they will "respond in kind"!?!! Yeah - go right ahead. You've already done your damage so have at it! The only response I will accept is the money they did not provide services or goods for! If you like buying form shady people who steal from people like me, be my guest! Risk it! After my father passed away, I was in a tough spot. My father was a Antique dealer and had collected a large collection of scrap silver. It was expected that since he was a Vetran from Vietnam that all burial costs were covered. I learned quickly that is a common misconception. It was the day after his death and I went to meet the funeral home Director. $$$3800.00 for body transfer and cremation and urn and Death certificate. That was about all I had in the world at the time. I knew more expenses were coming. I also knew my father had scrapped in Seattle, but that place he went had left me with little confidence and I was concerned that I would be taken advantage of. At this point I recalled a business that I had been to with my Dad many years ago. ODYSSEY. I decided to look them up. I loaded the car and made the trip. I was happy that I found them in Everett. I recognized immediately that it was a military friendly business. I entered the business and made a difficult introduction. When they heard my story they were as empathetic towards me and dropped everything to assist me and they even inquired more into my Dads life. The connection I made with everyone was more than enough to make this grown man cry. I was practically living there for the following 2 days. When it was all over I was relieved because Odyssey had spent many hours with me to measure and weigh and appraise and offer. I understood the business well enough to say this...Scrap was negotiated at top dollar and purchases were made with instruction and clarity. It all worked out. I had enough to cover the additional burial costs. In addition to doing business w Odyssey, they made a copy of my father's DD214 and restored every medal and award he had received while serving in Vietnam. Dad was buried with full Military Honors. Antique Buying, selling is an acquired taste. To be in the business is to take chances. It is important to know and trust people. These people are truly honorable. It is is their business to make a profit, but it is their purpose and mission to make comfortable and well informed during transactions. Both were very friendly and more than willing to work with me. After appraising the gun I wished to trade, I was offered a very generous and fair deal for it. I accepted gladly, and picked up a nice little .380 in great condition. After talking with the two guys a bit more, I brought in another gun for them to look at. They helped me fix the sights with no charge! I was really impressed by their kindness and willingness to help a fellow gun enthusiast. This is a great little family owned and operated business. They had a very large selection of rare coins and some unique military memorabilia. There's a pretty good selection of rifles and pistols as well, both semi-auto and revolvers.
