I paid over $2k total to have Iron Monkey cerakote and nickel plate two of my old shotguns. It took…read moreabout 4 mo. for the work to be completed. I dropped the guns off completely disassembled and ready for media blasting. I want to be completely transparent and mention the good things as part of this review too. The employees were very friendly and easy to work with. They explained their capabilities and weighed in on what they thought they were capable of. They also gave me a $100 discount for things taking so long. They had some difficulties with the nickel plating and tried to redo it more than once, which I appreciate. They also got creative when running into problems and "brushed" the nickel plating to hide defects. On the flip side, communication was less than desirable and I had to call the shop back on 4-5 occasions because they never returned phone calls they promised. I was also a bit disappointed to see that they left one sharp defect in the trigger guard of one gun and didn't bother to file it down during surface prep. I expected more prep work for a $2k price tag. So they did minimal surface prep work overall which I find disappointing. There were also 2 chips in the new cerakote, 1 of which they said they'd touch up for me with blue. I didn't find the 2nd one until later during reassembly. While I appreciate the creativity, they never called to ask if it was okay to brush the nickel finish. They just did it. I would expect a call asking for permission to deviate from the plan we agreed upon. Even with the brushed finish you can see micro pits in the nickel plain as day. Additionally, they missed a spot completely on the trigger guard and you can see bare copper. These complaints I have are relatively minor by themselves in the grand scheme of things. What makes things completely unacceptable is the touch up job on the cerakote. Aside from the fact that this touch up took 2 days longer than they said it would, they used a sharpie marker to do the touch up instead of blue. I found out about this because the touch up spot looked very purple-colored and the employee told me not to contact the touch up with my finger. When I got home I took a q-tip with alcohol over the spot and it came right off with 1 swipe down to bare metal. I thought to do this because I read another review for Iron Monkey from another customer accusing them of doing the same thing. Bluing is a passivation process that converts the surface metal to an oxide. It does NOT wipe off under any normal conditions, including with solvents. Even if it was old chemical, it will simply not turn the metal black and would fail to work at all. I even have a bottle of Oxpho Cold Blue that is 4 years expired. I hit the bare metal spot with it and it blackened instantly and would not rub off even with acetone. I called the owner to confront them about this and was told that it couldn't be sharpie and that maybe their bluing compound had gone bad. This was a bold faced lie, or the owner doesn't know what his employees are doing. Either way is unacceptable. Given the touch up situation and fact that I paid over $2k for this work and ended up with pitted nickel and chipped cerakote I can't say I'm a very happy customer. I might have lived with the other complaints given the things that did go well, but the bluing situation tips the scale for me. Overall I rate the work as a C- at best, hence my 2 stars. Unfortunately, that wasn't really the case. When I walked in, I made eye contact with the staff member behind the counter and explained that it was my first time shooting here since taking their intro class. Instead of any kind of greeting or friendly acknowledgment, he immediately asked for my last name. After looking me up, he told me (without much explanation) to go to the middle computer for the intro video and then the side computer for the waiver. When I asked for clarification on what "side computer" meant, he simply repeated the instructions with noticeable attitude. It set a pretty unwelcoming tone. The video and waiver were easy, and when I came back to the counter, I let him know I brought some of my own ammo since you need to declare that. He told me to "take it out" so he could check it. After that, he just listed off, "ear protection, eye protection, targets, ammunition?" I already had my own gear, so I asked for just a target and ammo. He instructed me to turn around and pick a target. After paying, he pointed me to a bay and reiterated rules that the safety video already covered, and that was essentially the end of our interaction. He didn't ask if I had any questions or clarify anything else. The actual range itself is functional and was a fine experience. But I'm glad I did some YouTube research about how gun ranges work beforehand, because the lack of guidance here would have been pretty intimidating. As a newer gun owner, I was hoping for staff who felt more approachable and patient. Overall, I was disappointed that the customer service for newcomers was so unwelcoming, especially from a place where I had taken a class and bought my firearm.

(Even stopped some guy that resembled me from pinching my er i mean their thumb in the hammer once. The gun selection? Unreal. They've got everything from adorable little .22 pistols -- basically the BB gun's slightly more confident cousin -- all the way up to the 50mm Israeli Desert Eagle, a firearm so powerful it should come with its own chiropractor. You can only shoot that beast with staff present, which is fair, because it's less "pistol" and more "portable cannon." The beauty is that you can rent any or all of these for a very reasonable price/ rate And the rifles? Too many to list. If it has a barrel and goes bang, Wade's probably has it. I half expected to see a musket from the Revolutionary War and a 40 watt plasma rifle sitting side by side with a big man in a leather jacket with an Austrian accent asking about it. Between the top‑tier safety, the shockingly friendly staff, and the arsenal that looks like it was curated for the Terminator to protect John Connor and the Smithsonian at the same time, , Wade's is easily a five‑star experience.
