The only part he couldn't complete was staying alone for 3 minutes with the evaluator--which, from my understanding, can be waived since he's my service dog. Then she claimed he failed three portions, which was simply not true. I was so upset I asked her to redo the test. She ran through everything on camera again, and he did great. Then she brought out another dog and started clicking while bringing it over--something no trainer should do. My dog gave a subtle growl but stayed in place. She jumped on that, said he failed, refused to continue the evaluation, and tried to push me into training with her. What a crook. If you use her, I promise issues will come up eventually. I paid $75 for that evaluation, and my dog passed the test with flying colors. WHAT A CROOK! FKIN SCAMMER. I thought I replied to her comment, but I sent her a message directly, so I am sharing with you what I said to her. Please work to uphold the integrity of the business: She contradicted herself, calling my dog sweet while claiming "aggression" was the issue. He passed every requirement except the 3-minute stay, which she refused to complete. Yes, he whined, but the entire interaction felt off from the start. Thank you for the refund, but it was well deserved. The whole process was shady--you were clearly ready to fail him. Completely inappropriate.

He was not my dog originally and I was having a hard time managing him. It was so hard to leave him but, such a good decision. It made a huge difference in my relationship with him. I received daily pictures and a video of his training. He was responsive when I texted for updates. After three weeks, I picked him up. Brent showed me how to work with him. I have been consistent with the training and two years later, he is still easy to work with and I bring him everywhere with me. This was such a great experience. Thank you again!

We recently enrolled our dog in the Ruff Edges Program and I want to share our experience for other…read moredog owners who may be considering this program. For dogs dealing with fear and anxiety, they use extremely intense correction methods. We were initially open to these tools, but things went downhill very quickly. Day one involved towel rolls being thrown at our dog, loud air-canister interruptions, and immediate use of a prong collar. Rather than working at our dog's pace, trainer Mel dragged him along on the prong collar until he submitted. This is not an exaggeration, he was physically dragged while thrashing and panicking. It was shocking and honestly heartbreaking to witness. Right after this forced submission, she handed him to my fiancé, and shortly after our dog jumped up and bit him on the arm. For context: he is five years old and has never bitten anyone in his life. It was devastating. Dogs give plenty of warning signs before a bite (growling, lip raises, body posture) but all of those signals were suppressed as he was forced into submission. In his mind, the only option left was to bite to escape the fear. After the bite we were told, "Oh yeah, that can happen sometimes," and that if it happens again we should "hang him by the prong collar until he sees Jesus." Honestly, we should have walked out immediately, but we trusted the 'professional' and assumed this program was designed for dogs like ours, so it must work. The bite happened again at the next session, totaling three bites under Mel's supervision. We never "hung" our dog by the prong because that is abuse, plain and simple. Meanwhile, his anxiety skyrocketed. He began howling, shaking, and crying at any attempt to get in the car. He even bolted out the front door to avoid going, behaviors we had never seen before this program. By week three, our dog was losing trust in us. He stopped cuddling (which is completely unlike him), avoided closeness, and generally shut down. Heartbreaking, to say the least. After experiencing this firsthand, I truly believe these methods do nothing but force a dog into submission (when they "work") and when they don't, they create dangerous behavioral fallout. The techniques used here are unnecessarily harsh, rooted in impatience, and a blatant lack of respect for the animal. They claim the program is tailored to your dog, but when the methods failed, the only advice was to correct harder: hang him, use an e-collar, throw the towel harder. No alternatives, no adjustments, no real understanding of his behavior. That is not tailoring, that is pushing until the dog breaks. In researching modern training science, I've learned there is simply no justification for these outdated methods. They ignore what we now know about canine behavior and emotional wellbeing. These techniques appeal to owners who want fast control, not true behavior change. I love my dog. After this experience, I'm choosing the slow road, the one that builds trust, not fear. I don't want a dog who obeys because his spirit is broken. I want a companion. If you're considering the Ruff Edges Program, please understand the risks and research these methods thoroughly. I wish we had, and I regret staying as long as we did. "The dominance remedy is so out of proportion that entire schools of training are based on the premise that if you can just exert adequate dominance over the dog, everything else will fall into place. Not only does it mean that incredible amounts of abuse are going to be perpetrated against any given dog, probably exacerbating problems like unreliable recalls and biting, but the real issues, like well-executed conditioning and the provision of an adequate environment, are going to go unaddressed, resulting in a still-untrained dog, perpetuating the pointless dominance program." -- Excerpt from The Culture Clash by Jean Donaldson.

This review is specifically for the trainer Sam at Melody Dagg's Dog Training. I adopted my puppy Mabel (husky/shepherd) at around 8 weeks old from Fresno SPCA in April of 2020 (the height of Covid). My parents live in Fresno and I live in San Diego. I really needed help with some of the typical puppy issues (this was my first shepherd mix and they can be a handful) we were having and could not find an in-person trainer or anyone remotely reasonable in Southern CA. For that reason, I decided to return to Fresno to attend the 4-week puppy program with Sam. Sam exceeded my expectations in what guidance she provided, was a great communicator, and even brough humor to the experience. I also felt extremely safe with all the Covid precautions she took (small class size, face masks worn, etc.) As Mabel grew older, I wanted to put her in a training class but came across the same issue with everyone being extremely overpriced or only offering virtual classes in Southern CA. I contacted Sam and she provided 7 days of board and train for Mabel. She was able to solve Mabel's issues with pulling, made significant improvements in recall, etc. When we picked Mabel up, she even gave us an hour-long lesson in how to continue Mabel's training. She provided the tools we needed to really make efficient strides with Mabel. We will continue to see Sam for private sessions monthly to reinforce what we have learned and hopefully learn even more. I cannot recommend Sam and/or this facility more. Sam also attends dog training seminars and stays up to speed on dog training methods. Melody Dagg's Dog Training is truly the best and who you want to take your dog to if you want quality training at a reasonable price with true experts.

We brought our seven month old, loving, but uncontrollable Rottweiler puppy, Olive to Matt and hoped for the best. She spent three weeks with them and I'm sure she made them question their price lol, but they did an amazing job with her. She's still loving and still a little boing boing but it's like night and day, she's so much more well-behaved. Olive is now a joy to be with. I absolutely love the "report cards" we got each night, they were so much more informative than I expected. They always had pics, a video of some of the day's activities, a message about the day's work. They even said if she ate her meals and if and how she pooped , my husband and I looked forward to them every night! The "turn-over" (when we got her back) went great, better than I could've hoped for. Our turn over was with a trainer, Brandon. I really had doubts about how my husband and I would do, in fact, I walked in with a list of "how to" questions but Brandon was wonderful, he was SO patient with us. He explained how the e-collar works from both a user standpoint (charging, connecting, etc) and as a training tool. Then Brandon brought Olive in and demonstrated what an awesome "new" dog we had lol, afterwards he walked us through each command individually until we each got it. He patiently worked with us through our weak spots, kindly reassuring us. We both left Brandon confident that we could continue successfully. We know we made the right choice bringing Olive to Matt and his awesome staff. I'm truly grateful to Matt for you all he's done and is doing. I look forward to bringing my Ridgey Jack. They've given us the tools to connect with our sweet, little Olive with confidence and success. We are so grateful to have found Off Leash!! Our girl Winter worked with Justin for a two week board & train when she was about 7 months. She's a rescue border collie with endless energy and is very excitable. We trail run, hike, and backcountry ski so it was important to us that our dog be able to be off leash on trails, in the backcountry, and camping. We tried to be diligent about her training, but she's not food motivated and would get so distracted in public that nothing seemed to work to redirect her. Needless to say, this was worth every penny. Justin was amazing and so so patient with her! I was thoroughly impressed with the results. She is responsive in all situations, has stopped getting into things in the house, and has become a genuinely more affectionate dog! I was initially unsure about the tens unit collar but it's been the absolute best thing for her. She gets so excited to put it on and is genuinely a happier dog. I think she feels a sense of security in knowing what's expected of her in every situation. I cannot recommend Justin enough! He was so responsive via text/call before, during, AND after training. He has continued to answer our questions as things come up and wholeheartedly takes an interest in Winter's life and continued training. He has gone above and beyond in every way. I took my 8 month old puppy to Offleash K9 Training in Fresno. I chose the Basic and Advanced Package, receiving 8 personal sessions one-on-one with a trainer for 1 hour each Saturday. My dog's problems were: jumping on tables, chasing cats, rushing through doors, barking at animals and people when out on walks or in the car, pulling on the leash, and poor recall. All of these were addressed by our main trainer Courteney and very quickly resolved with her training. Courteney tailored her sessions to my dog's specific needs and performed them in environments such as their training center, my home neighborhood, pet-friendly businesses and shopping centers. My dog also trained with Darnae and Austin, who brought their own strengths and styles to the training sessions they covered or consulted on. She was trained from basics up to unconventional situations such as elevators. At no point was my dog uncomfortable or upset with her training. She was always happy to put on her e-collar and leash every morning, excited to arrive at their training center, and delighted to see the trainers that worked with her. Brilliant. Amazing. And with a touch of love. These words are just the beginning of how we describe the training provided by Dom to our wild 8-month old golden retriever. Prior to the training, our pup would "run and play" when told to come, pull and jump when walking on the leash, refuse to eat out of a metal bowl, bite out of excitement, tear up our carpet and artificial lawn. From day one of training, we were able to see via video link that Dom was able to lay the foundation and begin to get our pup to sit and stay, come on command, and walk with a loose leash. It was unbelievable. Over the 2-week training, our pup continued to make great progress. By the end of the training, our pup followed his commands. What was more amazing was while training in the community in a store, Dom was able to have our pup sit-stay, walk away out of sight and when he returned, our pup was still in a sit position. Incredible! Dom also took the time with much patience to train us. Now we just have to follow through and continue the training. We had a very good experience with Off Leash K9 training and Brandon who was our trainer. I was far away in Africa on vacation while my dog Carmel was there for over 2 weeks of training and boarding. I really appreciated the daily updates via report card, photos, video and added texts if there were any particular issues (e.g. my dog threw up a couple of times). They trained me quite well and quickly on the e-collar upon my return and reunion with Carmel in Pleasanton at the park. The pick up and drop off went super smoothly. Carmel who is age 7, had some reactivity issues on leash and also at home. The training helped a lot in particular when we're outside relating to other people and other dogs. I found it generalized less to our home environment but I guess that can only be expected since we weren't there together working on the indoor reactivity. I have more tools now that I've been exposed to the e-collar which we use on occasion and I feel more confident that Carmel can manage herself appropriately (without excessive barking or reactivity) when we encounter most other dogs and people we meet outside. I had the pleasure of putting my dog "Toast" in Justin's care for three weeks. I was planning on training my dog from the start, but lagged. My wife and I bought a camper van and plan on doing some week long trips and maybe longer. I wasn't confident that Toast had the skills to deal with dogs when they approached. I needed help! Off Leash K9 Trainer Justin was just what we needed. He was professional and has a personality I was looking for to help Toast. Toast is a mixed breed and has quite a "personality". I was in over my head at first. Not! anymore. After 3 weeks with Justin she has turned into a very responsive dog. Follows commands. Isn't aggressive towards dogs on the street anymore. It was so embarrassing to walk her during the day. I resorted to night walks. When I met Justin after her time in training he helped me understand Toast better and couldn't be more pleased with the dog I have now. If the training didn't work she was going up to adoption. What u could improve, is that Off- Leash k-9's owners would change their lying ways! Their lying websites, 100% guarantees & be honest people who will run an honest business, because HONEST IS WHAT THEY R NOT,,! They r con artists whofalsly advertises, misrepresents themselves, & who killed my little boy Lucky. They traumatized all three of my babies the entire 2&3 wks. that they were there in Fresno. The reason they play their stupid music in the videos they send you of your dogs, is so that u cannot hear how they really talk to our dogs when trying to train them. Don't you see how your dog's eyes are buldged out, that's from being repeatedly electrocuted?! Matthew Bischoff's word, is "NOT" to be trusted, he is "NOT" a man if his word, PERIOD! The lies just keep getting worse , & that's when they stop responding, any mention of a refund, forget about it ! BUT DON't ! I did the two week board and train program with Justin. I was overseas. My puppy Dakota was around 8 months old when I dropped him off. He was unruly, and just a 100 pound ball of jumping, nipping, and misbehaving. He's a German Shepherd. I felt immediately comfortable working with Justin, because he clearly knows what he's doing and took an hour and a half at least to help me understand what they would do and ask what I wanted from my dog while dropping him off. He took those wants to heart and I feel like I've come home to the same playful dog, but one that has a newfound sense of respect for commands and authority from me. Justin took another 3 hours helping me understand how I can work with my dog to help maintain and improve upon picking him up. He also has helped me multiple times through text and continued to offer help whenever I need it that way. I can't recommend Justin enough and off leash K9 Fresno. My big dog is happy, healthy, playful, but now respects my authority. read more

The training that Rhodie received during his two week board and train was simply amazing and it was all thanks to Lacey! Rhodie like any puppy was stubborn and wanted to do things his way. We got him to learn sit and shake and lay down but the recall was terrible and his confidence a little shaky. Lacey did an amazing job getting him confident in place sitting, moving through crowds with distractions (use to scare him) and big time helped with the recall! Not sure why we thought it would be a good idea to adopt an 8 month old 65lb puppy that did not know any commands. After a couple days we realized we needed help. We turned to Off Leash Fresno for help and couldn't be happier with our choice. We dropped off our crazy dog Max with Marissa. Each day for 2 weeks we received daily reports, pictures, and videos. Marissa had max following commands right away and we were blown away with the end result. Max was a new dog. He still has his puppy energy but is much more manageable, and much more enjoyable to be around. Just recently we have been able to let max off leash to play fetch and feel confident that he won't run away and that he comes to us when we call him. We highly recommend Off Leash K9!! read more

Brought my 1 year old beagle in for the two week training. He loved to jump on people wanting loving, he would jump all over other dogs wanting to play with them. He would pull hard on the lease while walking, and he would keep his nose on the ground always. The door bell would ring and he was up and trying to mow us down getting to the people at the door. Not any more. He does not jump on people, he does not mow us down getting to who ever is at the front door. He walks with his head up high and watches us while walking. Well worth the money and the loss of my dog for the two weeks, I had dog withdrawal issues. Reports each day with movies and pictures. The dogs at this facility really get a lot of loving and attention. read more

Sabrina completely changed our lives! My dog percipitated in her 2-week board and train program through OffLeashK9 Training, and the transformation is unbelievable. Before the program, we had a scary incident where my dog got into a fight. My Dog name is Kobe, he's an Australian Labradoodle about 15 months. I'm so glad we took our dog to Off Leash about 3 or so months ago. Before he was trained he would bark at other dogs, people, Bicycle riders, skate boards basically everything. And when we had people at the house he would go crazy in after putting him in the crate. But I must say after we did the 2 week session with Brandon. Kobe was a different dog!! From day 1 after being trained I've not used a leash on him. he's calm around everything & everybody. We had our FMD Milo trained by Brandon for the board and train program they offer. We had rescued our dog Milo from a puppy mill in Taiwan and struggled with confidence in public, he was frightened by fire hydrants and bushes that moved by the wind. We also had problems with pulling and keeping him to one side while on walks. And the biggest thing we enjoy now is allowing Milo to roam the park and hikes freely with the ability to be recalled on command. Milo is still our happy normal Milo but has been trained to where it has changed our life's. The e collar is game changing it causes no harm to Milo. If you struggle from things like Milo did please ask for Brandon and you won't regret it. read more

I can't say enough good things about Rebecca & off leash K9 Training in Fresno,Ca. When I first bought my pup, Joshua, to her, he was a handful-chewing everything in sight, pulling on his leash barking nonstop, jumping on everyone, and just not listening at all. We are go happy that we were able to find Off Leash and that we got to work with Brandon. We have a Frenchie and as adorable and sweet as they are they are also very high energy and love pushing the limits or at least ours does. What a huge difference it has been after training. When we went to pick him up after his training Brandon was so patient with us going over all the commands and questions we had for him. Our trainer Sabrina from Off Leash K9 Training is the best! We have a 1 yr old ACD, Blaze, that is super nervous around people and doesn't like to leave my side. When he was 5-6 months we reached out for training and he spent 2 weeks with Sabrina learning and playing. Loved that we received report cards to see his progress each day. We needed boarding recently and reached out for a 1 week refresher. We were very grateful to get Sabrina again. We just finished the two week program at Off Leash K-9 Training and we're happy and impressed with the results. Our Siberian Husky Niko was very lucky to get Brandon for a trainer. They bonded so Niko wanted to learn and do well. We got to see the other trainers as well, and all are top notch. Upon completion of the training they teach us simple humans how to continue the process at home, and out and about. I recommend Off Leash very highly to anyone who loves their four legged friends. My fur baby had the best time at Off Leash. He spent most of his time with Brandon who played with him every morning and sent me videos. He took home out of walks in public places and practiced all his new skills. My dog came home with a significant increase in confidence. He was able to focus on walks better and do extended downs. My dog is reactive so when he is with me he may never be able to be off leash but walking with him used to be a stressful nightmare and now it is actually fun! read more

Honestly, I was confused by the drop-off point and it made me a little nervous but the team was great at reassuring me. The experience was great! Justin sent me his contact info prior to drop off and communicated with me throughout the 2 weeks. I would have liked updates on the daily throthe portal, but Justin was available anytime I needed a touchpoint--which I really appreciated. as far as results, I love how disciplined my dog has become. For dogs dealing with fear and anxiety, they use extremely intense correction methods. We were initially open to these tools, but things went downhill very quickly. Day one involved towel rolls being thrown at our dog, loud air-canister interruptions, and immediate use of a prong collar. Rather than working at our dog's pace, trainer Mel dragged him along on the prong collar until he submitted. This is not an exaggeration, he was physically dragged while thrashing and panicking. It was shocking and honestly heartbreaking to witness. Right after this forced submission, she handed him to my fiancé, and shortly after our dog jumped up and bit him on the arm. For context: he is five years old and has never bitten anyone in his life. It was devastating. Dogs give plenty of warning signs before a bite (growling, lip raises, body posture) but all of those signals were suppressed as he was forced into submission. In his mind, the only option left was to bite to escape the fear. After the bite we were told, "Oh yeah, that can happen sometimes," and that if it happens again we should "hang him by the prong collar until he sees Jesus." Honestly, we should have walked out immediately, but we trusted the 'professional' and assumed this program was designed for dogs like ours, so it must work. The bite happened again at the next session, totaling three bites under Mel's supervision. We never "hung" our dog by the prong because that is abuse, plain and simple. Meanwhile, his anxiety skyrocketed. He began howling, shaking, and crying at any attempt to get in the car. He even bolted out the front door to avoid going, behaviors we had never seen before this program. By week three, our dog was losing trust in us. He stopped cuddling (which is completely unlike him), avoided closeness, and generally shut down. Heartbreaking, to say the least. After experiencing this firsthand, I truly believe these methods do nothing but force a dog into submission (when they "work") and when they don't, they create dangerous behavioral fallout. The techniques used here are unnecessarily harsh, rooted in impatience, and a blatant lack of respect for the animal. They claim the program is tailored to your dog, but when the methods failed, the only advice was to correct harder: hang him, use an e-collar, throw the towel harder. No alternatives, no adjustments, no real understanding of his behavior. That is not tailoring, that is pushing until the dog breaks. In researching modern training science, I've learned there is simply no justification for these outdated methods. They ignore what we now know about canine behavior and emotional wellbeing. These techniques appeal to owners who want fast control, not true behavior change. I love my dog. After this experience, I'm choosing the slow road, the one that builds trust, not fear. I don't want a dog who obeys because his spirit is broken. I want a companion. If you're considering the Ruff Edges Program, please understand the risks and research these methods thoroughly. I wish we had, and I regret staying as long as we did. "The dominance remedy is so out of proportion that entire schools of training are based on the premise that if you can just exert adequate dominance over the dog, everything else will fall into place. Not only does it mean that incredible amounts of abuse are going to be perpetrated against any given dog, probably exacerbating problems like unreliable recalls and biting, but the real issues, like well-executed conditioning and the provision of an adequate environment, are going to go unaddressed, resulting in a still-untrained dog, perpetuating the pointless dominance program." -- Excerpt from The Culture Clash by Jean Donaldson.

This review is specifically for the trainer Sam at Melody Dagg's Dog Training. I adopted my puppy Mabel (husky/shepherd) at around 8 weeks old from Fresno SPCA in April of 2020 (the height of Covid). My parents live in Fresno and I live in San Diego. I really needed help with some of the typical puppy issues (this was my first shepherd mix and they can be a handful) we were having and could not find an in-person trainer or anyone remotely reasonable in Southern CA. For that reason, I decided to return to Fresno to attend the 4-week puppy program with Sam. Sam exceeded my expectations in what guidance she provided, was a great communicator, and even brough humor to the experience. I also felt extremely safe with all the Covid precautions she took (small class size, face masks worn, etc.) As Mabel grew older, I wanted to put her in a training class but came across the same issue with everyone being extremely overpriced or only offering virtual classes in Southern CA. I contacted Sam and she provided 7 days of board and train for Mabel. She was able to solve Mabel's issues with pulling, made significant improvements in recall, etc. When we picked Mabel up, she even gave us an hour-long lesson in how to continue Mabel's training. She provided the tools we needed to really make efficient strides with Mabel. We will continue to see Sam for private sessions monthly to reinforce what we have learned and hopefully learn even more. I cannot recommend Sam and/or this facility more. Sam also attends dog training seminars and stays up to speed on dog training methods. Melody Dagg's Dog Training is truly the best and who you want to take your dog to if you want quality training at a reasonable price with true experts.
