Best escape room I've played. Very immersive with great pacing, buildup, and unique game mechanics.

Had a really good experience with a few workers here. Amita was very friendly to interact with and in no small part was the reason why on the day we planned to only do Chapter 2, we spontaneously decided to also do Chapter 3. Sorry, I can't remember anyone else's names. Puzzles are both clear and challenging at times, the narrative is very interesting and provokes discussion both during and after, and the prospect of decisions affecting later Chapters is very interesting. One of the most engaging and interesting Escape Rooms I've ever done. Although you might find cheaper Escape Rooms out there, Off the Couch Games offers a more unique experience that I think definitely gives you plenty of entertainment for your dollar. I eagerly await Chapters 4 and on. Only room for improvement I can really say is signage. If you miss the banner and front door on your way into the parking lot, you may get confused, especially at night. read more

We came to Off The Couch with 6 people to try Occam's Apartment. I've only done a few escape rooms, so I wasn't sure what to expect. The staff does a really good job introducing you to the game, providing context, and giving an overview of the rules. Additionally, they mentioned that we'd receive a discount off our total based on how quickly we finished, which was extra encouragement for us to get through the game. You immediately get immersed into the game before even walking into the actual room and once you're in Occam's Apartment, it feels even more real. The room itself is well decorated, with nice details scattered around the apartment. I loved every minute of the escape room experience and felt challenged throughout the time we were there. We did ask for hints throughout our time there and the answers were often given through directional questions. What I liked most about the Off the Couch set up is that the escape rooms are all a continuation of a storyline, so it makes you feel invested in the experience. Friend wanted to do Occam's Apt for his bday, so we got a group together. I'm not an escape room enthusiast, but i've done a few. Honestly haven't done one that really impressed me, so my expectations were pretty low. I also thought that this place seemed pricey-- my friend said its 90 bucks per person? I'm not sure if this was accurate, but I thought it was a lot. No worries, its your bday, lets do it. We found out that you actually pay less if you are able to complete the room faster than the allotted time, I think they charge by the minute, so that was pretty awesome. The staff was really awesome, everyone was super helpful, and chill, and really passionate about escape rooms. The experience for Occam's Apt, story, challenges, everything blew my expectations out of the water. No spoilers, but heck yeah it was so awesome that we decided to do chapters 2 and 3 the same day (had lunch after occam's apt, the staff suggested having a break to touch grass). Just so good, everyone needs to try this. Best escape room I have ever been to, if anyone has tried a better one please let me know. read more

If you love Escape Rooms, Off the Couch is a MUST. My party and I have done a lot of escape rooms, and I can 1000% say Off the Couch Games has blown us completely away. To put it into context, I've rated top escape rooms a 10/10 but Off the Couch has raised the bar to a 15/10! The story, the tech, the puzzles, the staff and live actors (shoutout to Ken and Giggles) are top-notch! From how you're greeted at the door, to how you're hosted throughout the game by your incredible GMs who speak to you in their character, the game experience is impressively seamless, immersive, and most of all, just insanely fun. My party played all 3 chapters so far and never found a puzzle to be unfair, or ran into any technical snafus that are so common in many other lower quality escape rooms. The continuous narrative is also SUPER DUPER COOL and you can really feel how the choices you make in each chapter carry through the next. It's clear that games at Off the Couch were made with passion, and that passion is tangible throughout the puzzles, set design, staff, and even in the merch. I've never been so impressed at how I hated and loved this escape room. This is just about Chapter 1 and we're looking forward to eventually doing Chapter 2. L O C A T I O N We arrived at a pretty non-descript building off of Mowry Ave. There's plenty of parking. I N S I D E They have a tablets to fill out your information of everyone in your party. There's restrooms that you should use before you commit to the room. You know nervous pee. E X P E R I E N C E One of the folks there will lead your party to a dark large room to watch a video and describe what is happening and what you're going to do. They give you some good tips as well as what you can do if you're stuck and need help. Once you're ready, they lock you in the room and you're on your way. I will not spoil this room as it was definitely one of the most memorable escape rooms I've been to. There are multiple ways to do certain puzzles and also there is interaction with actual actors. Depending on what you do, it will change the outcome of your next chapter. So it's like choose your own adventure kind of escape room. Our group of 4 did finish the room with time to spare. It's quite doable, we also asked for help at one point, but during the discussion with our helper, we figured out what we needed and thus was not penalized (there's a time penalty when asking for help/hints). Phew. Note there is NO timer in the room so we had no idea how long we were going for. I thought we were almost out of time but we actually had 20+ minutes to spare which you don't lose and you bank that time to add to the next chapter which is also another nice feature of this escape room. There are only 3 Chapters so far and a new 4 hour room which you can do all 4 hours at once or do an hour at a time. S E R V I C E The folks there are passionate about what they do and it was just a breath of fresh air to know you are in good hands with folks who really care about you having a good experience. At the end you get a photo and you can ask any questions about your experience. O V E R A L L We're still all buzzing after we did this first Chapter. Even months after I can still remember how it felt being that room as time was ticking by and just the overall interactivity of the room. By far my favorite escape room ever! I can't wait until they open up the remainder of the rooms. The great news is that we heard from the owner that they're working on the remaining rooms for the series. This is the first time I've played in an escape room which had live actors and it was such an immersive experience. The staff were immensely helpful and friendly. They are genuinely enthusiastic about the games and getting you out ASAP. I loved that if you can solve the room earlier than the average time you receive a refund of the difference! Kenny and Nick truly made the experience spectacular. Their enthusiasm and passion for escape rooms was unrivaled. I also enjoyed how flexible Kenny was. He heard we were visiting from out of town and offered to stay later so we could start chapter 3. These games are honestly so unique. There are no number or word locks. Everything is truly a puzzle and the attention to detail is something I've never seen before. I'd say I've played somewhere in the ballpark of 40+ different escape rooms and this is THE best one I've been to BY FAR. read more

This is probably one of the top 5 if not top 3 escape rooms in the bay area. OTC is basically pioneering next gen escape rooms at this point, and where's a better place to start than the tech infused bay area? Gone are those combo locks with keys, numbers, and if you're feeling spicy, directional locks. Yes, you read that right, no locks of any kind found in your run of the mill escape rooms. In are the puzzles that bring creativity to the next level, with locks that I personally never experienced. The entire experience is so unique and magical that you might just feel that you're breaking the 4th wall...! We did chapter 1, and I recommend finding a fixed escape room group to do all the rooms here, especially since it's narrative based and every chapter is a continuation of the entire story. The room itself can be spooky, but it's 100% manageable. Host was super nice, rooms were super clean and smelling good, and the escape room's decor and vibe was next level. The room is actually designed with a purpose instead of having random props lying around that don't contribute to much. They explained everything as to how to mechanics work and were super knowledge on not only the rooms but also trivia about the owners/establishment. Price can be a sticker shock, but the price does get reduced by how much time is left on the timer - in other words, get good to save money (literally). Ch2 had more traditional mechanics and all I have to suggest is to try to approach the solutions with a fresh perspective if you get stuck! Coming from an escape room enthusiast, Off The Couch is absolutely a 10/10 experience. Not only are the staff members friendly, but they are extremely professional, kind, and attentive as well. My boyfriend and I started on Chapter One today and were SO happy about our experience that we booked another session with them right away - especially because we are from out of town and can't go here as often as the locals. The difficulty of the puzzles were just the right amount of challenging - aka they were manageable, logical, and not impossible to solve. Additionally, I love how the "hints" are given in a different way - aka not a direct verbal hint, but there will be other "elements" in the game that push you towards the right direction. I also love how you can save your progress and revisit Off The Couch at any time - it truly makes this experience so much more enjoyable than a "rushed" 60 minute escape room session because you can come back to solve OTC at any time. Also, please note that this "escape room" is a bit spooky when it comes to theme and lighting. I get spooked pretty easily and I was able to survive, but let's just say that I did get scared every now and then, haha. I'll be the first to tell you that I don't consider escape rooms very fun but I found this somewhat fun albeit a little "spooky" in some parts with flickering lights and the sound of a crying woman. My sister, her husband and I decided to play this on a random Friday night so they're up to speed with their friends who already finished Chapter 1. The host was very nice and friendly. He also answered any questions our team had before and after the game. Located in the old Comcast building in a dimly lit parking lot, Off the Couch Games is a great way to get off the couch and hang out with friends/family/coworkers in a more intimate setting. They also offer free parking and $1 water bottles. What really stood out was the fact that Off The Couch has multiple chapters that connect to one another and you can save your chapter if you didn't complete the game in the allocated time slot. They were also very generous with their time, giving you plenty of time if you are close to completion. Parking: Free parking in the plaza Price: $$ Recommendation: Birthdays/celebrations/anyone who doesn't want to feel rushed. It was my first time completing the game without feeling anxious or an existential dread. Like others mentioned, this game room felt very engaging compared to other escape rooms I've played in the past (I also hate using my brain in my leisure time and found this very fun). I also recommend middle school to high school as the minimum age requirement as there are very dark/mature themes like death and murder in the game. read more

My friends know that I don't really like games, or puzzles, or anything that requires me to think in my free time. I steer most games nights to easy games like uno and question asking. So I was apprehensive for this escape room with my friends. But I was blown away but how engaging the experience was. My friends and I worked together to solve the clues, each of us providing my own perceptive. The puzzles ranged from easy to hard, and we were able to ask for hints from the moderators (who were in character the whole time) when we got stuck. The 1 hour and 45 min flew by as we sunk into the narrative (very fleshed out) and we solved it with 0 seconds to spare (literally). We started with the Chapter 1 room, and after completing we can move onto chapter 2 and 3. We heard the owners developed this story and props by hand and in house - a ton of work. We also heard there are Easter eggs in the rooms, and some of our decisions will affect our experience when we come back to later chapters. If we didn't finish, we could come back at that point at a future time. Or if we finished early, the extra time would apply to the next chapter. So meta! Logistics: - all indoors, but you are in your own set of rooms separated by groups - a few parking spots in front and looks like a larger shared lot in back - small square lockers to put your belongings in but you can bring your phone in to the rooms as long as you don't take pictures or use the flashlight - wear comfortable clothes you can move around in - the rooms are not meant to be very scary but they can be tense/thrilling. Off The Couch Games has THE BEST escape rooms I've ever done!! I would HIGHLY recommend them (and have recommended them) to practically everyone I know. What they have here is truly something special. I've been trying to chase the feeling that this escape room gives me by going to other escape rooms in the Bay Area, and nothing else compares. Off The Couch is so insanely immersive and engaging. The storylines are also so distinctive and interesting. This place is unlike any other escape room I've ever experienced with their usage of having continuous chapters of a storyline that you get to come back and try. The rooms are super creative and some of them even utilize video game technology in a way that I've never seen anywhere. My friends and I finished all of the chapters available and have been eagerly waiting for them to build more chapters We talk about this company often, hoping that the new chapters will come out soon. The entire staff here is awesome and everytime I return, I feel like I'm seeing an old friend. Definitely the best escape room we've been to! Our group completed Ch 1 last month and came back for Ch 2 this weekend. The staff here is so friendly and accommodating. They allowed us to have a larger group and even worked with my friend to coordinate an event request. The games are spooky (in my opinion), but very entertaining. I personally preferred Ch 1 because of the different rooms involved, but Ch 2 was also very fun. The escape room components are very intricate. They did a great job with creating an interesting storyline that connects several stories. I don't want to spoil anything, but it's very cool how your different choices shape the experiences you encounter. Hoping to be back for the next chapter soon! read more

I've been to all three rooms and although I definitely have my favorite all of them are great. You can definitely tell the owner and all the GM's are people who love escape rooms and are passionate about them. We've only ever had great experiences with staff. The escape rooms all have such great puzzles and attention to detail. I've only had one or two times where I might not have been pleased with how a puzzle functioned (mainly in Ch3. The Morgue). This is definitely the S-tier of escape rooms in the Bay Area. Definitely don't recommend for first timers as they'll ruin any other places for you. Chapter 1 was definitely my favorite as it felt realistic like you were really looking through an apartment. The way they give hints is amazing as well. I love that they don't just give you the answer but instead they lead you there so it still feels like you're solving it on your own. I will definitely be back to do the other rooms when they open up more! This is a room I recommend anytime someone asks what's been my favorite. read more

Whoa, this place was definitely one for the books! To preface, my husband and I have pretty much done all the escape rooms in Vegas where we live, so we enjoy doing them in other cities when visiting family and friends. This place is super unique with their theming, the storyline, and the timing. More info below! Tried to book the escape room online for the 7:30 room #2 and kept getting an invalid message so my husband called to get it done over the phone. After speaking to the worker, we got it figured out with email confirmations and card entry. The rooms are limited to 2-6 people and the times are actually much longer. Of the three rooms (that follow a sequential order), the first is up to 105 minutes, the second 90 min, and third is 120 min! Very different than the 60 minutes you would normally get for a room, but with a price that reflects that! The more people, the lower the price per person, but it's quite a steep amount! Make sure you go with people you like! Haha Fairly good amount of parking In their lot and easy to spot signage up front. Super chill waiting area with a couple chairs, some restrooms, a locker area for bags, and vending machine. The game master/worker actually allowed us to do the first room rather than the second room because they weren't too busy and he could set it up! We originally couldn't make the time listed on room 1, but could make it to the later time for room 2! The rooms are very well done! Without giving too much away, we all had things we were able to solve and the teamwork level was high! The theming was definitely on point, although the thrilling aspect was quite scary for some of us when it came to lighting and sound! You are allowed unlimited hints/clues without penalties which is nice, and the "clues" are given from someone more like a "player" in the game rather than the game master. :) This place is special as they can credit your remaining time for the next room! We finished in 85 minutes so the remaining 20 would be "credited" for the following room. ALSO, there were choices we made in room 1 that would Influence what happens in the following room! SO cool and well tailored to your game play! *they do tell you to make sure everyone in your group agrees with the decisions made because it will definitely be used in the future! 10/10 experience at Off The Couch across the board! TLDR; the workers are so passionate about the rooms/storyline, the structure of the rooms is definitely different than what I've seen before, and you are sure to have a unique experience coming here. For my escape room enthusiasts, Off The Couch is a MUST TRY! My experience here started with my interest in this place pre-covid. However, during covid, their original location shut down and they relocated to Fremont. For a while, their rooms were booked out which definitely made me think "Woah this place is the real deal if they're always booked" Luckily, my friends and I were able to snag a spot for Chapter 3: The Morgue. DISCLAIMER -- there are chapters on the rooms for a reason and we were definitely aware of that. However given the availability of both the rooms and my friends, we could only do Chapter 3. I chatted on the phone with the owner, Nick (GREAT guy btw. We talked for like 10 mins) and he explained to me how each room has decisions and storylines that affect the next room, and it is much better to experience it in order. That is a really cool concept. My friends and I decided to do Chapter 3 anyway. Our game host was Alex. He gave us the GREATEST experience from start to finish. Literally from walking in to the second we walked out (stayed 20 mins longer to just chat about the escape rooms). Normally, I am not a fan of escape rooms that are non-linear, but The Morgue definitely surpassed my expectations. It was fun, funny, heart racing, witty, and the best part -- it was beatable! My team and I got out in ~90 mins given our 120min time limit. I cant WAIT to return for Chapters 1 and 2. I came and did the first two "episodes" here. The first one was great. I was told it wouldn't be scary and it 100% was still too scary for me, but also admittedly I'm a wimp. The puzzles in the first game (Occam's apartment) were also extremely clever and fun. We really enjoyed most of the room. The second room (art museum) was the opposite. The puzzles were mostly derivative, tired. Minor spoiler, but this room was also extremely screen heavy- like playing awful mobile games on iPad screens for WAY too long. And the acting was overdone. The ending was weirdly anti climactic. The quality of the set was still nice, but the puzzles themselves were so...boring. Our gamemaster also maybe hinted a little aggressively, even though we had plenty of time. And then when we said we unfortunately weren't able to do the last one (due to logistics, most of the others were moving out of the area and I was only visiting), we were being hard sold on it. Like...ten minutes of listening to the GM sell us this game we knew we wouldn't do. -_- it was extremely annoying and I'd recommend NOT doing this. It accomplishes nothing. If we wanted to do it, we'd figure out a way to do it. We'll always go out of our way to do more if we can, and we're not asking you to hard sell us when we can't. It's fine to ask; it's not fine to keep pushing for ten minutes when we've already said no. I think the overselling would've turned me off if we didn't have logistics issues. But even without that, the second room was such a bad/boring experience that we'd be unlikely to want to return anyhow. So... Definitely do the first room. If you did great time in the first room and can get a discount for the second, sure. Apparently the third room is better, if you're okay with spooky. But otherwise I'd probably just rec the first room. PS people aren't THAT invested in the story. The story isn't that good or mind-blowing. The puzzles in the first room are what made it great. So...maybe get that person to design the new rooms in the future. read more

My family and I were back for chapter 2 and it was just as fun as the 1st!! We really enjoyed the storyline, the puzzles, the decorations. We've done many escape rooms over the years and this place is easily top 3. I would say the three things that we enjoy the most about it are: 1) The storyline 2) The puzzles 3) The hospitality The best part of all of it is that it's an "at your pace" type of experience, which allows you to go as fast or as slow as you want to! What an AMAZING experience. Most of us were kind of nervous going into it because of the anticipation of the live actors. The staff were super friendly and you can tell they are passionate about what they do. They made us feel very welcoming and did not rush anything. A lot of places start you ASAP to make up the time. Speaking of time... this place did things differently. So the time stated for each chapters were 110, 90 and 120 respectively for first 3 chapters. If you go past the 110 minutes, time starts being taken out of the next rooms. If you don't use up the full 110, well, that's more time for your following rooms. If you pass the games and still have time remaining, you get credit back that time. Another unique thing is if you want to stop, you can "save your game" and resume where you left off another time. Upon arriving, you're allowed to grab drinks and they will charge you later. You can bring the drinks into the rooms with you. Our group is nuts and we chose to do all 3 rooms in one day... Our plan was to start the first room at 1pm and finish first 2 chapters by 3 something and have a break to get boba and donuts nearby. Unfortunately... we suck and didn't get out on time so we didn't have that break and most of us were burned out. We couldn't get our boba and donuts. We had a short break until jumping into chapter 3. The staff were nice enough to offer us snacks to give us energy. This may not be for everyone but I highly recommend doing all 3 if you can - or at least don't spend too much time apart. Like don't do chapter 1 and then wait months to do chapter 2. Doing it same day or close apart will keep the memory fresh and really play into the immersion. We had a great time speaking with Nick, the owner, and the other staff members - Jo, Nick, and Kenneth. They were all passionate and loved what they were doing. You can feel the energy and positive vibes from each of them. Usually places that don't have that energy, it rubs off on the players and it isn't as enjoyable so I'm glad that wasn't the same at Off The Couch Games. Nick said he has done 1500 rooms... that definitely tells you how much of an escape room enthusiast he is. The staff told us about their plans for expanding this game into 12 chapters. They really value the experience and story line more than a typical escape room filled with bunch of combo locks, number codes, key locks, etc. They told us that they are currently petitioning to the Mayor of Fremont in order to get the green light to further expand their rooms. Fingers crossed because we are so looking forward to continuing the story line. We were told chapter 4 would include dinner with the mayor ;) ... the food can be as low as McDonald's grade to Michelin Star grade. That sounds SOOO interesting. Your decisions in the games matter and affect how your other games play out so think carefully. Hopefully the city of Fremont makes the right decision so we can continue have such amazing, high quality escape rooms for us at Off the Couch Games. Please drop by! Off The Couch is easily a 10/10 experience. I do believe the group you go with heavily alters the experience. To do this place justice, I would recommend that you go with a group that has done a couple of escape rooms so they could fully appreciate what Off The Couch does, since it's truly a unique experience. I would also recommend going with a group of people that knows each other well and can make sure you continue the story together. This isn't a place where you do one room with a random group of people and leave, but there's continuity between all of the different games and you would want to go with the same group each time for all the games. Each room is a continuation of the last, and depending on what you say or do, you can affect how the rest of your story plays out. You truly are a character in this story, and how you interact with some of the other characters that will appear does matter. This unique blend provides fascination with trying to get the, "true ending" to the story, but you have a role in choosing your own adventure. It is evident that the staff puts so much love into these games. From the story, the design of the puzzles, the set, and their demeanor, it's clear that they love what they do. All of the staff are super friendly to talk to, and my group thoroughly enjoyed interacting with them before, after, and during the games. We especially enjoyed interacting with Han. He was out game master and we tried to request him each time we came. Overall, I would highly recommend Off The Couch to anyone that has a consistent group of people they can do all the games together. Honestly can say Off the Couch has the top rooms in the Bay Area! After doing rooms all across the country and even internationally - Ch 1 and 2 have been our favorites. Extremely creative puzzles and storylines with an extremely detailed-oriented room design (with impressive tech integration)! It was awesome to hear the backstory of the owner's experience in tech and electrical engineering which makes these rooms so interactive and exciting. Additionally, with their dynamic pricing and flexible bookings...OTC really wants their escapers to have an unforgettable experience. If you scare easily like me, these rooms are thrilling...but boundaries are well kept. Our time (for both chapters) was made most special by game master Jack!! A MUST TRY ESCAPE ROOM IN THE BAY AREA!!!! My group and I have done more than 50 escape rooms together, and I would say this company is one of the most creative! The rooms are set like a story and are meant to be played in order. However, my friends and I actually started with the 3rd room (The Morgue) and did the 1st room after (Occam's Apartment). While the Morgue had really creative puzzles, I enjoyed Occam's apartment more. I love rooms that are more linear and the type where you can work together to solve puzzles as a team, which is what the Apartment was like. With the morgue, you are occasionally separated or left to do different puzzles at the same time. These rooms are better done with a decent sized group. read more

Having done over 2 dozen escape rooms around the world, this by far has been the most unique and well thought out room I have been to. The decor matched perfectly to the theme of the room. It felt like I was in a real apartment with functional items. The locks were not obvious and embedded themselves beautiful to integrate with the theme of the room. The puzzles were intentional, fun and super interactive! This room even had a live actor which was done in such a creative way. This room is Chapter 1 of a 12 chapter series. It was so unique because there were components within the game that will impact future games that you play here (even the team members that you bring with you). The unique thing about this room is that you're paying by the time it takes you to finish the room. If you finish early, you can either get reimbursed a portion of the rate you paid initially, or you can bank that time into your future games. That was a really cool feature that says a lot about the owner. Speaking of the owner, we were fortunate enough to meet him on a Saturday evening and I really enjoyed chatting and learning a lot from him. He and his staff were so kind, so fun, and clearly passionate about the rooms they have built. His vision for what escape rooms experiences should is exactly what made this room the best room yet. Off The Couch - Occam's Apartment - Chapter 1 - Escape Games Near Me - Fremont, California

Did part 1, 2, and 3 with a group of 5 and it was amazing! Part 1 was the apartment, 2 was the art gallery, and 3 was the morgue. The immersion is the best part, it feels like you're really in the actual settings. Puzzles are challenging but super rewarding! Giggles is scary/friendly? Just did chapter 1: Occam's Apartment with a group of 4. Two of us were brand new to escape rooms, the other two had some prior experience. We were able to complete the room in the booked time slot (we have some smarties in our group ). Wow! We loved how immersive the storytelling was! There were very creative puzzles that had us scratching our heads. There was one tedious puzzle, but aside from that one, we all had a blast. Whoever designed the rooms did so with love and enthusiasm in their hearts. Everything is designed with intention. The details were astounding! I also love that Off the Couch will save progress for you! For the longest time, my husband and I only had each other to play escape rooms. We usually couldn't finish a room with only 2 people, so when we returned to other places like Red Door Escape Room, we had to redo the puzzles we solved the previous visit. Off the Couch makes escape rooms more accessible to small groups and players that want to go at their own pace. The staff did a superb job in setting everything up. The effects were very immersive and the puzzles were well-designed and tied in to the theme of the game. (No running around looking for lock combinations) I enthusiastically recommend Off the Couch for a great experience. They are worth every penny! read more

I really really enjoy Off The Couch! My wife and I have done over 100 escape rooms and Off The Couch is one of our favs in the East Bay. This place is up there with Trivium, Omescape, and Palace Games. We really liked their non traditional hint system. It's different from what we're used to, but in a good way! The narrative base concept is cool. You gotta do Chapter 1 before you can do Chapter 2, etc.. And there's SOO MUCH space here! I believe their end goal is 12 chapters aka 12 rooms. How exciting is that! Not only is their concept innovative, their clue system non-traditional, but even their whole game/ payment system is something to be in awe of! If you're able to finish your room with extra time, you can bank that time for the next chapter ex. you finish with 10 mins left, you can allocate that to the next room and have extra 10 min to finish! Or you can use that 10 min towards a discount for the next time you play! How cool is that! Off the Couch really thinks about their customers and really delivers on a 5 star experience! I've done about 25 escape rooms, and Off the Couch Games is hands down one of the best! We've completed chapters 1-3 so far, and each one was a blast. What makes these rooms special is how the stories are all connected, which really pulls you and your team into the experience. Most chapters are great for 2-4 people, but chapter 3 is definitely better with 6. The staff here is amazing. We had Jo as our host for all three chapters (you can even request specific staff), and she was fantastic every time. The team clearly puts a lot of effort into making each game memorable, and they truly deserve all the praise they get. The environment for each room is very realistic and the clues are pretty top notch. The price may be pricey, but if you go in a group of 6 you would only need to pay $75 , HOWEVER, if you finish early you will have a discount based on the minutes you have left. Okay, now that we've played all three available rooms, I feel qualified to give a thorough update! Please keep in mind that only my husband and I played these rooms together, so your experience may feel different with more people. **LONG REVIEW WARNING** Off The Couch provides the most quality and unique escape rooms I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing. They have surpassed every other escape room we have tried in the Bay Area and they are a MUST for escape room enthusiasts and newbies alike. You can feel how much passion, care, and attention to detail have been put into each and every one of these rooms. The set dressing of each room is remarkable. You actually feel like you're in someone's apartment, an art gallery, and a morgue. None of these rooms play the exact same way, which gives you even more to experience between each room in addition to the different settings. Each of these rooms can be played by two people, because we definitely did it, but make sure you communicate well with your teammate and come up with a strategy when you get in the Morgue. That is their biggest room with a lot of ground to cover - both in terms of size of the space and the number of puzzles to complete. The puzzles are the perfect level of challenging. Some are quick and easy to solve and others require a little more brain scratching, but they are definitely doable. You will walk away feeling so accomplished when you solve these rooms. They also make amazing use of technology in their games - I won't give it all away, but be prepared to be in awe with each room when you see how they incorporate tech into their puzzles. In every game, there is a unique way to contact someone to help you if you get stumped. These aren't ordinary Game Masters you're contacting. They maintain the roles of characters that are not only important to the story, but are helpful to you without outright handing you the answer. And they do it SO WELL. Every GM has been an absolute delight to work with. It's also fun to role play a little bit with them as you communicate - it keeps you immersed in the story! The only thing I would want people to be aware of is that there are some moments of intensity that we weren't expecting when we played Occam's Apartment. There are some darker themes, imagery, and intense moments that carry through to each chapter, but they are vitally important to the story and add to the mystery. Even though we were a little spooked by some scenarios (we're wimps, we know it), it definitely wasn't enough to deter us from coming back for more! Lastly, after chatting with the amazing folks at OTC, we learned that they have the plans and materials ready to build the remaining games in their series. They're planning for twelve games, which is amazing! The only issue is that the city of Fremont is blocking them from continuing their progress. Fremont could definitely use more fun places like this. I want to support their efforts because this is truly a special place with an awesome vision for future games. I hope others in the Bay Area (especially Fremont) see how wonderful this place is and voice their support because I can't wait for them to release more games!!!! Best escape room I've done in years, both in terms of the puzzles and quality of the story. Immersive, scary, fun and loaded with choices.

We played the first chapter today, "Occam's Apartment". I've played this storyline before back when I lived in LA. The setup, new and improved mechanics, and effects were stellar. I love how they updated a lot of the puzzles and setting. I did feel very immersed in the story and game. The difficulty was moderate. We played with 3 players, including myself. We escaped with some time left as well! I thoroughly enjoyed how they lead players through the game if lost. Towards the end the gamemaster, Jo, was super friendly and walked us through any questions or lore we had. I'd definitely come back to replay chapter 2 and eventually the further chapters. read more
