I've been working with the Office Party team for a few months to plan a surprise for my grandson's 60th birthday party. I'm so excited to have a fruit portrait (it's like one of those edible arrangements, but arranged in the shape of his face) sent to his desk at the photobooth factory. It will be so perfect! Strawberries are his favorite ( he has two salamanders named Mrs Strawberry, and Darrell Strawberry Jr), and the red will match his hair perfectly! To be entirely transparent, I haven't actually done business with OP yet, but we've been talking and planning a lot. Since I don't have a phone (I don't want the government spying on me), it's mostly just us yelling back and forth through their front fence. It's a little hard to tell what the tall man with even taller hair (Mitchell, maybe?) is saying, but it sounds something like "Sir, please leave us alone. We don't do fruit portraits. What even is that? It sounds like a terrible idea, wouldn't it go bad in like an hour?" Or sometimes "seriously, man, go away, or we're going to call the cops. And why do you have those balloons?" Either way, I'm sure we'll get it sorted out. So excited! Update: I can't figure out how to edit my rating, but I would like to change it to BERRY UNSATISFIED. It wasn't Mitchell's fault, but I did end up getting arrested, (the nice officer said I wasn't allowed to sleep on the sidewalk; I just wanted to give Mitchell a strawberry cake when he got to work!). Through some miscommunications and outstanding warrants, I ended up being in jail for 2 months and missed my grandson's birthday. Darn it! Maybe next time.

I couldn't take a photo inside the napping space, but you get the idea. Simply wonderful.

The Mission Revival architecture is stunning, with lush landscaping and beautiful courtyards. It's a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of the city, perfect for a quiet stroll or a picnic with friends. There's also a small visitor center with exhibits about the history of the Los Angeles River and the surrounding area. There's also a gift shop with a variety of local and nature-inspired items. And if you're looking for a unique event space, the center offers beautiful indoor and outdoor facilities for weddings, conferences, and other special occasions. I recently attended their Family Day, which was a wonderful way to spend an afternoon and explore the area. The center hosts a variety of events throughout the year, including concerts, workshops, and family-friendly activities. Additional notes: The center is free to visit There is ample parking available on site. The center is accessible to people with disabilities. There are several restrooms located throughout the grounds. Be sure to check their website or social media for upcoming events. Bring a picnic lunch or snacks to enjoy in the gardens.

If you're a couple looking for that perfect aesthetic that feels equal parts industrial, tropical, vibrant and eclectic, this Marvimon property is a total masterclass in indoor-outdoor hybrid design. Once you're in there, you feel transported into a super intimate, secluded space that's colorful and chic. What makes Millwick a dream for photography--specifically for film enthusiasts--is the sheer variety of textures and light. The moody, Hollywood-style bridal suite is tucked away like a private oasis, and the lush, vertical garden courtyard provides a stunning contrast to the Grand Hall's gold ceramic walls and exposed brick. It's fun to capture both natural light, as well as direct flash photos for a really dimensional wedding gallery. For my couples who value more of a storytelling, documentary approach, the surrounding Arts District is unmatched. We can slip out to the nearby colorful murals for a playful, editorial feel, or take a short walk to the 4th Street Historic Bridge for those iconic, sweeping Los Angeles skyline views. These locations are absolute magic on 35mm & medium format film; the way the grain hits the industrial grit and the tropical greenery creates a fun, eclectic gallery that feels super unique to DTLA. The venue team is incredibly organized and professional, ensuring the day flows seamlessly so I can focus on capturing those raw, candid "in-between" moments and artistic flash shots once the sun goes down during cocktail hour and through reception. There are several amazing private planning teams that I can recommend as well that collaborate with the venue. If you want a wedding that feels like a curated urban jungle and you're looking for a photographer who can bridge the gap between modern digital precision and the soulful, nostalgic feel of film, Millwick is the place to be.
