Built in 1913, The York Manor was home to a Methodist congregation before transitioning into the York Blvd Church of Christ in 1963. It sat vacant for a few years and briefly reopened as a performing arts space in 2013 but was forced to shut down. After being declared a historic monument, it underwent a complete renovation by new owners in 2015. The building changed hands again in 2023 and functions as an event center and a shared common workspace. This three-story venue has rooms upstairs. Downstairs is the main room with lofty ceilings, large windows, wood floors, a kitchen, bathrooms, and a stage for a DJ or live bands. Downstairs is a speakeasy style bar and the backyard is also a nice spot for an outdoor reception. I've driven by this place numerous times thinking it was just a church. I recently saw that there was a Holiday Market Place being held here so I stopped in to do some shopping. There was a man on the front lawn making pupusas and people sitting at tables enjoying them. Inside is quite spacious and there were several vendors selling their merchandise. The tables were nicely spaced apart, so it was easy to browse. CRATES. they barely had any garbage disposals for us to clean. main thing was the workers under the company look lazy and rude. if we didn't clean, they would keep the deposit. I don't think a reception of that size would be overlooked by the host and simply wasn't disclosed that significant detail. for the price of a different venue with all services for cleanup, seems like it's better to go somewhere else. plus, no parking and it's only street. interesting space but pass. read more

Used the York Manor for my fathers funeral reception. The space is beautiful inside and out. However, the people left to tend to you are very rude. The lady who assisted us in seeing the space from before having the event changed everything we had agreed to verbally. Led me to have an argument the day of my fathers funeral. The space was not setup at the time we agreed to, also sent several emails about how the layout was supposed to be and they stated they never received it even after responding to the email. The lady cleaning also kept giving dirty looks to guests who were present. Not sure if it was because we were brown and not white...... I would not use this space again because of that. read more

This place is SO chic! We came here for a wedding on a Sunday and I loved the aesthetic of the whole facility. It is like an old renovated church with endless possibilities. Also, great for a small, intimate, wedding. The bathroom area is so clean and cute. I loved the tile and mirrors, and the privacy of the stalls. We had our wedding here back in late November and we are so happy with how everything turned out. The York Manor's DIY approach was perfect for us because it was extremely important to have the freedom to select every single one of our vendors and to have full control of our wedding costs to make it uniquely OURS. The space was so cool, so intimate, full of charm, and most of all, a fair price for a wedding venue in the heart of LA. The best kept secret (or secret no more??) is definitely the speakeasy downstairs...all of our guests still cannot stop talking about it! With all that said, I would say that the only thing that really worried me about this venue was the parking. It's not a surprise that this area is extremely dense, so for some of our guests, parking was challenging. The York Manor did suggest hiring a valet service and after talking to a handful of valet service vendors - the prices were just really unreasonable for what would have still been the same parking situation. We held a life celebration at the York Manor for a musician and composer so we had musicians who performed some of his music. The sound was fantastic. For us that made this a perfect venue. It was a very comfortable space for 75 people and everyone enjoyed socializing in the inside space and outdoors at the tables and chairs they set up for us. It has air conditioning. That was wonderful as it was a 90-plus-degree day in October. People managed the street parking but appreciated our advice to come early to find a spot. read more

I came here for the first time for a friend's Fundraising event. The place is cute. They have a nice outdoor set up with tables and chairs that could probably hold 100 guests? I could be wrong. It could be more. I also like the inside of the manor. They have a dance floor with a small stage and kitchen for the catered food. I like the Red Neon light signage they have in front of the door. You aren't required to work with any specific companies and can even DIY. Food trucks and crew trucks can park on-site behind a locked gate--great for security! Parking can be a challenge if you don't think ahead. The site rep recommends valet or dropping off guests. Easy enough! The space inside and out is beautiful, elegant, and stylish while still being a blank canvas. Big stage area with side wings that can be curtained off, large open kitchen, full bar speak easy downstairs, and clean, totally ready to go backyard complete with sun shade canopies! Speak easy has a stage, dance floor, mood lighting, private side rooms, there's even a shower available in the downstairs bathroom! Set up can get sweaty so the full bathroom is a major convenience. Plenty of non-gendered individual bathrooms upstairs too so there's no long lines. Looks like the space was freshly painted and updated. Photographs well! If you are savvy enough with the rest of your budget (bring your own alcohol, food, decor...) then you will see the value of the space. Pros: You can basically do whatever you want with the space, your own caterers, your own decorations, your own setup completely, you have the front yard space, and the back yard space. It has a kitchen to keep your food (not to cook) but it's super small, Stephen is super nice, The venue itself is beautiful. You can have your own alcohol here. Cons: Venue has HORRIBLE parking.. I came to spy on a wedding to see how the parking looks and it's bad. Only street parking but most the close spots are taken by the people that live around there. You can't have wine bottles or anything like that on the table must be served by the bartender. Kitchen is super small. The venue doesn't come with tables nor chairs. The fake grass in the front is really beat up (they should fix it up). The venue also has a really weird smell... For the price my fiance and I did not move forward with this space because it's too expensive and offers too little. We found a hall that provides everything for the same price. A good pick if you can afford to spend a lot on all the other things. You're literally just paying for an empty space... not worth it in my eyes. read more

I have to admit, my one and only venue visit was to The York Manor. It was love at first sight! I love the DIY option and it fit well for our wedding. I had many compliments from family and friends about the property. They liked how spacious it was but also intimate. Everyone also loved the speakeasy! We chose The York Manor as our wedding venue last May. Alicia and Stephen were very helpful and easy to work with, very responsive to emails and such. We liked the ability to build our own event and the flexibility of the venue was very nice. Event insurance was easy to get, they even had a recommended one. We had just under 200 guests and it was a squeeze to accommodate tables, buffet area, and dance floor all in the main floor plan but we made it work. We had one bar in the small room next to the stage and one outside, along with a photo booth. The mezzanines (bride/groom suites) were nicely outfitted and had enough seating for our wedding party, plus enough space to spare for our band in the third attached room (as a green room/break room). Having a kitchen on site was super helpful for our catering and dessert teams. The space is beautiful and made a very good canvas for the rest of our wedding styling. read more

What can I say other then this venue and their staff for our September 22 2018 wedding was absolutely amazing. The moment we saw this space in person, we knew it was our venue for the most magical day of our lives. I love how up front they are about their venue and it really does give you free range on designing your wedding and what vendors you want to bring in. We had our wedding ceremony outside in the back, our cocktail hour in the front yard and the reception inside. I love how white the building is with the curtains and lantern lights. It's minimal but it illuminates the room perfectly. We did not get special lighting and i honestly was worried that it was something I was gonna regret. Hey, if you got that extra dough by all means get the lighting but I found that it was just as beautiful without the special effects. We did not do valet parking but we encouraged our guests to uber/lyft. Those that did drive were able to find parking in the neighborhood. We had about 140 guest give or take. I honestly had the best vendors and they are the ones that made the space and wedding come together so beautifully. Stephen and Alicia were helpful with any questions we had and work so well with us. This was the perfect place to hold our wedding! Upon viewing it as a potential venue, we loved it immediately. Tucked away in Highland Park, it's a beautiful, old, converted church with great front and back yards and the inside looks awesome. We had our ceremony outside and dressed up the inside for our reception and dancing. A nice bonus was that upstairs on both sides of the reception area are separate suites for bridal parties, furnished with chairs and tables to get ready with. There is also a nice prep kitchen to stage a bar, etc. And of course its got the beautiful neon sign out front! All of the staff was great from the start, explaining everything up front and answering any question that we might throw at them. Alicia gave us our first tour and she sold us on booking this as our venue. But throughout the planning, our main contact was Stephen who was responsive in a timely manner and really nice. They both were great at suggesting ways to use the space, essentially the York Manor is an open venue for you to use however you may want. Due to that, we found it was cheaper than other venues trying to offer everything, but we were able to make our wedding exactly as we imagined with the blank slate. They give you several appointments for viewing the space as well as rehearsal time before the event. On the day of, there is an on-site manager to help out with any issues. The one concern we did have was for parking, as their is no designated parking lot, but there was plenty of street parking in the area and there were valet options if we had a large enough guest count. My husband and I had our wedding at The York Manor on May 11th, 2019. From the moment we first saw the venue, we knew it was the place. There were so many perks that many other venues restricted us from, such as the DIY aspect, freedom to choose your own vendors, ability to utilize the space for 12 hours of your choice (ex. 2pm-2am!), bring your own alcohol as long as it's served by a licensed bar tender, play your music as loud as you wish inside, all were what truly sold us, as this type of flexibility was important to us! Let's face it, no one really wants a stiff wedding that ends at 10pm.. Also, there is a "speakeasy" called the Rembrandt that is located downstairs that you can rent as well! We did this for our cocktail hour and after party. Our DJ was able to move downstairs and hook up his equipment with ease, or you can even have a live band down there! I communicated with Stephen extensively, and for an entire year he dealt with all of my inquiries and answered promptly and in great detail. Thank you so much Stephen! We were able to visit the venue a couple times prior to the wedding for planning purposes, and have a brief rehearsal as well. I loved the bride/groom suites as well that were great for pictures and freshening up throughout the night. On the day of everything was clean and beautiful and ready to go. It was so amazing to see my vision that I had planned all year finally come together. Thank you folks at The York Manor for providing a lovely and unique venue for so many happy couples! I marveled as I walked past this space with my partner two years ago. I was new to the neighborhood and said to her "It would be crazy to see a performance there." She replied, "I'd even get married there!" We'd exchanged thoughts on whether it was an event space, music venue or some preserved Los Angeles relic. Little did we know, it was all three AND more. To be honest, we were a little freaked out at how it was almost EXACTLY what we'd dreamed...and how pivotal of a role it has played in our lives. The York Manor is a Los Angeles Historical Monument built in 1913. Formerly a Methodist church, the space is immense and wonderfully lit. Adorned with stained glass and big bright red doors, it is a true wonder. My first time at the Manor, I saw a performance that brought me to tears. The 3000 sq foot main room was dimly lit with candlelight as guest performer Devendrá Barnhart took the stage with accompanied cello and violin. The whole crowd was reverent and though that massive space somehow felt intimate. I knew that what I was witnessing was something that doesn't happen in Los Angeles often, if at all. I knew from then on, that it was a gem in this city. Fast forward a year and some change, and I'm engaged to my partner and head of a poetry / immersive artist community. I decided to inquire with the venue about the space, pricing, history, etc. (I had so many questions). I'd assumed it may be difficult to get ahold of anyone to speak to personally, but lo and behold I was greeted by the nicest, most accommodating voice! Alicia was straight to the point and warm. She quickly set up a viewing of the space and I was there the next day getting a full tour. Alicia was professional and relatable. Most importantly, I could tell that SHE CARED. She cared about the space. After now having worked closely together, I see the effort and energy she puts into the space (which is spotless), the neighborhood (my new favorite in the city) and with every single client she works with. Every day. In short, it's a marvel of a building with an incredibly warm staff. It's in the best neighborhood in the city, near all the best new restaurants. It's a perfect place to have a wedding, rent out for a private party or rehearsal and it is a well-oiled machine run by an incredible captain. I personally believe this venue will go down (even further) in history as a place where the most memorable nights in Los Angeles have taken place. And the most beautiful. I LOVE the York Manor. I recently did a photoshoot here. My company Provenance Rentals provided vintage rentals and styled part of the shoot. Such a wonderful venue. Classic old world feel with old windows, a gorgeous red door, and some stain glass, along with gorgeous hardwood floors, and luscious velvet curtains (by the way, even the restrooms were charming). Very chic. It also has a very new twist, especially the outdoor grounds with string lights, rustic wood fencing, a great neon sign, and gorgeous greenery.
