Place wasn't to bad. Lots of personnel, and they get fairly excited to actually see a customer and help which is always a good thing. Otherwise it's an oversize office supplies store. This store is fairly large, and if I am at the back of the store, it is annoying to have to walk to the cashier and ask them to call someone to an aisle; it would be much easier if people were stocking or walking around to help customers who need help. On the rare occasion that you do see people working, the workers never seem to say anything to you in the aisle or ask if you need anything; instead, it seems as if they try to ignore you so you won't ask them anything. On a more positive note, the cashiers are normally very nice and helpful, and they are pretty quick at their jobs. And I found exactly what I wanted, the manager even priced matched some additional things I needed for the board. Really made the process very seamless and hassle free and even makes me consider coming back. Great manager and overall great experience. read more

I would have given it no stars if possible. I purchased a laser printer nearly 3 months ago along with an extra toner cartridge in case I needed it. Both cartridges were empty. I stopped in recently after searching far and wide for envelopes large enough to fit 11x17 inch-sized posters. After stopping at several other specialty stores, I gave one last shot to Officemax, and the place came through! First of all, the little strip mall in which Officemax is located has a ton of free parking, which is almost unheard of at most other places throughout the city, so they get major points to them just for that. When I walked in to the building, I was greeted with a friendly smile by an employee, who asked if I needed help with anything. When I'm on a mission, I'm on a frickin' ~MISSION~, so I said, "no thank you," and shuffled my feet to the mailing aisle. I found what I was looking for almost immediately, and was strangely comforted to see so many sizes of envelopes. I also noticed that everything was organized very nicely and the floors were pretty dang clean, which was surprising after a lot of snowy weather, and I'm sure a ton of snowy boots walking through as a result. When I got to the register, the girl working asked me if I wanted to join the free rewards program. YOU FRICKIN' BET I DID. It's been about a week or two and I don't go to Officemax a lot, but why not, right? Maybe I'll get a free envelope on my birthday next year. Came here yesterday because I was in need of a new digital camera. Actually I called early in the morning to check if they had anymore of those Kodak 10.3 megapixel cameras available. I spoke to Pat the manager and here was our exchange. Pat - there are only 2 left Andre - Can you hold it for me Pat - No Andre - I will pay for it over the phone and pick it up later Pat - We can't do that......You know what; what time will you be here? Andre - 5:30-6:30 Showed up at 5:30 and it was still there being held for me. Josh came over and helped me out. He was very knowledgeable about cameras. I thought he was so knowledgeable, I decided to talk about laptops, since I was in the market for a new one. Josh was able to give me all the info I needed and long story short I left out with a new camera and laptop computer. Josh was very helpful and made me feel comfortable about spending the money I spent. I see they have all bad reviews here, but my experience was different. If you want to avoid bad customer sevice (the other reps there were cool as well), ask for Josh when you come in. read more

I needed one item- walked in and asked the person at the Service Desk, "where I could find a letter opener?" He replies aisle 4 by the shipping materials. I look in Aisle 4- no letter openers to be found. There is a store employee that is stacking up some bottled water in the center of the store- I ask him where letter openers are, he says, Aisle 6. I tell him the guy before told me it was in 4, he says, he was wrong. I would have thought, he might have taken a moment to show me where, since his co-worker failed in telling me where to find what I was looking for, but this guy couldn't be bothered. Found what I was looking for- check out, the gal at the register- asked for my reward information, she tries to be nice and call me by first name, but calls me "Bat" My name is "Bart" which was what was on the computer. Ugh why don't I read my own reviews?! I did it again, sent a file online to be printed. It was all set up, nothing needed changing, just ram it through. Arrive at the store and ask a question at the service counter to receive a one sentence snippy reply. As I walk away, I think she realizes her tactics were not well received and tried to make up for it. Eh. Head over to the print counter and gee, guess what, my print is wrong. Seriously Bex, read your own crap. Anywhoo, the likely poorly paid woman garbled some explanation that made no sense, said it'd be an hour to reprint. I'm sorry, an hour? There is no one in the store, your machines aren't running. Three minutes: reload file, hit print, sorry we screwed up. I even brought the file with me in case. Nope. At this point I got rather grumpy as ya know, like everyone, I've got stuff to do, I can't keep running back here. Hopefully I wasn't as crabby and gnarly to the woman as I was feeling but I may have been which I feel bad about. But c'mon. It was impossible to screw up this print yet they did and made me come back again. Ever since Office Max and Office Depot joined in unholy matrimony, this place has taken a dive for the worse. Funny but it seems as though my previous review of poor service has disappeared! Their printer cartridge program is poorly run. The cashiers don't know how to administer it (don't provide receipt for cartriges turned in, don't know how the program works, or the admin don't know how to add it to your account etc. The end result is that you, the consumer never get credit for recycling them as it is too much of a hassle and so, they end up in the landfill. Better yet, I am taking my business ELSEWHERE! I have spent about 1/2 hour total trying to get it sorted - they don't value my time. read more

Here's a really cool idea - let's open a store full of useful products/services that people will show up in droves to buy and then NOT HAVE ANYONE AT THE CHECKOUT COUNTER. Ever. Ever. Ever. Then, we'll give the customers vain hope that they might actually get home before their next birthday and send one clerk out....to the register with the SLOWEST credit card machine in the world. I've been here several times in the past week or so just because I need tons of stuff for my classroom and the upcoming school year. I am surprised that almost every review complains of "non-existent" customer service - I was treated like a queen by all of the employees here! I wonder if they have been paying attention to all of the reviews here on Yelp because they really seemed to have everything together. I came in with two of those 20% off brown paper bags and filled one to the brim with all the stuff it could handle (including a printer cartridge!). I had a few questions about products on the floor and every time I managed to find someone that directed me exactly where I needed to go. We only encountered a problem upon checkout - the guy didn't give us our 20% discount. We didn't even notice until we got home, so it was partially our fault. I was highly irritated since it was like a $30 savings, so I dragged myself back there. The manager was super nice about fixing the mistake that the cashier made and he refunded me $30. He was also super nice about an exchange that I needed to do and directing me all over the store to find some other things that I needed. At the end of my second excursion, there was someone standing and waiting at the checkout counter so I didn't have to wait or call anyone. Awesome. The store is very well organized and everyone knows where things are. I asked for a few random things, too, and they directed me right to the correct aisle every time. The store is clean and it has some of the best public toilets I've ever seen. Seriously, it was a super nice lady's bathroom. That's the last thing I'd expect in a retail store, so props to you, Office Max. Prices are reasonable and they have great sales because there's weekly back-to-school items for just $.01. Awesome! Non-existent customer service. Are all items "mislabeled" with the wrong prices or just some? In any case, if you have to shop here (for whatever reason), pay attention to the price they actually charge you at the register, because it's not going to be the same as the price you read on the shelf. Also, be prepared to argue with them about which price is correct... the label or the "all-knowing computer." For me, I will never step foot into this store again. Just a crappy overpriced store. What exactly does "customer service" consist of? Can somebody tell Office Max? $40 for a notebook?!? Yes, their plastic-cover, paper appointment books are $40-50, that's a rip off of the consumer. Look, it's not Target or a grocery store, it's an office supply store. Customers are going to have questions, people are going to want to know where certain specific items are, etc. But no, there was no person in sight, even as a bopped from isle to isle searching for what I needed. Finally found an associate standing by the printers, and he could not even help me choose the right ink, they don't have a picture book like other office stores do, so I walked out with the wrong ink. This place blows. First, getting there is a nightmare. I almost got into 3 different car accidents before I parked because the lot is so confusing. Second, customer service sucks as well. There was 1 competent sales clerk (Amir was his name I believe). I had to buy several moving boxes & they didn't have any pre-bundled packages, so I struggled to carry several boxes up to the cashier. The cashier was an idiot; not sure why he couldn't enter in quantity & scan 1 item instead of having me give him each box to scan individually. Also, the male customer behind me had to suggest that they get someone to help me carry the boxes out to my car. I would order online before going back in! read more

We have a corporate account at this Office Max, so we spend quite a bit of money here on an annual basis. The customer service is always terrible. There are few employees that seem like they want to be at work. Otherwise, everyone else is miserable, especially the females. Nobody goes above and beyond except Taylor who is our corporate account manager. We place multiple order in the print center on a monthly basis. The last time I picked up a very large, expensive order, the gentleman that helped me said that they offer free delivery of print center orders to Retail Connect Customers, which we are. I called today to get that free delivery and the woman on the phone (without asking what company I was from or our Retail Connect Number) just told me no. She said only our large accounts we will do that for.... This is just awful, especially since just a few weeks ago your co-worker told me that they would do it for us since we spent about $800 on copies. I wound up having to go to the store twice so they could price match the on line price from their own online store. When they went to load the furniture we bought in to my car they put it right down in a puddle despite my asking them not to and put wet boxes in my car. There was no one working check out. I get to cut my paper products with the paper cutter for free! Recycling your cartridges and toners is also great to take advantage of your rewards are bigger and better! I usually get my office supplies online from any store that delivers free and spend just over $50 as required. But this time, rather than order $50 worth of stuff, I decided to shop out of my usual zone and use that 'fill up the paper bag for 15% off" bag that Office Max had with the Sunday paper, because you could use it for EVERYTHING, including sale items. I'm a stationary store (that's what it was called back in the day and I like that much better. "office" store sounds too clinical) junky and I can spend hours just perusing. As a writer, I love notebooks, pens and everything else. Next to the library and book stores, I love stationary stores next best. And now back to our program. I'm moving, so needed some in-between heavy type tape. I also went because I didn't want to wait to get it -- and it gave me an excuse to peruse the in-store sale items. I checked online and the Office Max brand got better reviews than even some of the Scotch brand, so I decided it would be worth my while - that and the sale! From the second I came in, I was offered help. Granted, it was an 'off'' time, but my experience is that going to any store in the middle of the day before the corporate slaves get out or instead of on Sat/Sun when the mad rush comes usually doesn't always guarantee better service. This is because they cut the staff down or have everyone multi-tasking so much that you're lucky to find help. Every staff member in the store was friendly. The guy stocking the pen dept. even opened up a pen I wanted to buy so we could see what refill it needed, because it was unclear. I wound up buying the pen - an nice office max brand retractable that looks expensive .. for only $2.50 and then that additional 15% off. I went through each aisle, paying particular attention to the sale items. I found some amazing deals! There were these notebooks with plastic covers that I can use to refill with paper - just what I was looking for. Technically, I guess they're supposed to be trashed when done or stored away, but I plan on filling them up with loose paper when the pads are finished. They were 1/2 off and then I got that 15% on top of that, so I was happy. The area to the left back of the store was also filled with clearance items, and I found more small pads there that will be very useful - that came to around $1 each. All in all, a store with good deals and nice staff. I can easily see going again to browse with that sale bag when they do it again! Great time to stock up and save! FYI: there are some other stores in the area worth noting, such as a nearby TJ Maax, and another little strip mall adjacent. read more

Lately I have been visiting many office supply stores since I am opening up my own real estate brokerage. The desks I wanted for my office was on sale here and I bought them. Because they were on sale and I saved about $200 I bought them 3 weeks early. I also bought chairs and a laser printer from here. I believe I got a very good deal and I am very happy with my purchase. When I was putting my office together, I noticed that one of the pieces from a desk was damaged, I went back to the store and since they did not have any more in stock I would have had to wait for the piece to be shipped form the manufacturer. I explained to the sales person that my office is important and I would prefer not to wait for the piece to be shipped. The sales person went and got a manager that allowed me to remove the piece from the display unit and I got to put my office together that day! Extremely happy about that. The reason I gave it a 4 star and not a 5 star review is for 2 reasons. 1) Because the office furniture was on sale I bought it 3 weeks early. I asked if I pay for them, can they hold them for me for 3 weeks. They told me they can not hold something that long even if I paid for it. I would think that if I spend this kind of money, a store would be willing to hold the products for me. 2) The store is never extremely busy and even though the employees are helpful, they always rush to finish with one customer and jump to other projects not customer related, this includes the managers. Leave you feeling that they have more important things to do then help customers. Overall, I do recommend this store. read more

First, Alex helped me over 2 phone calls figure out the label size that would work for me based on what labels the store had. Then, Tony helped me over the phone make sure that I had the right kind of document for them to print, he helped me make adjustments based on their printer, and then I went in and he printed and cut the labels for me. I went here and was racially profiled by an employee named Max. He asked to check my bag before I left. It sounds petty, but no one else was asked to have their bags checked and I've been to OM before. Since when are they checking bags at the door? I would stay far away from this location. I bought a printer here and it didn't work from the moment I bought it. I tried multiple times exchanging new ink and nothing worked. Then when I was able to bring it in they told me since it wasn't within 14 days I would have to go through Epson. I understand having a time limit but in the world today no one has time to take care of all of this in 14 days. They wouldn't even let me return the unused unopened ink. Came here to get some invitations. This is the first time in a long time that I walk into a store and a rep comes to me and ask if I needed help which was great because we did need the help! The gentleman Carlos (operations manager) was very helpful. Not only did I get the invitation paper I needed but also walked out with the ink cartridge I needed that couldn't find and oh wait I don't know how I walked out purchasing a office chair but I did, I needed it either way lol! My roomie Kristen and I came here to organize our lives and get day planners. Of course, when we got there, they were all out. I had to ask 4 different people where the planners were and they all directed me to everywhere except where I needed to be. To put the icing on the cake, when I went to check out, the cashier Ana was on a personal phone call and didn't bother hanging up. I went to this store recently and was very disappointed that they have few if any recycled paper products. Staples and Office Depot have at least 30% post consumer recycled content in most of their paper products. I have heard that there is a protest against the company and I can certainly see why. read more

Admittedly, I only came here once, but the result was surprisingly great. I had to print two 200-page books which had text, diagrams, drawings, photos, etc., and had to deal with full-bleed pages as well as double-sided prints. Needless to say, it was a little complex. They were fast and the woman that helped me was very friendly and helpful. After she made the prints and cuts, she showed everything to me for review; i made some minor requests, which she followed up with and then checked back with me before binding. I appreciated that she let me review each step since this was a large job. It especially let me know that she wasn't missing any detail that I wanted. Since Officemax was pretty busy and only 2 people seemed to be on staff at the time, it didn't go super fast, but it went as quickly as it could have. I think the whole thing took about 30-40 minutes. No complaints here about that. I have a Kinko's next door to me but chose to go to Officemax, which was pretty out of the way, because it was significantly cheaper (I saved about $100 compared to the quote I got at Kinko's). Their staff was also very helpful when I called for a quote b/c they explained the breakdown of all costs, as opposed to Kinko's who - although they were friendly - only gave a general final estimate, and Staples who couldn't give me an estimate at all. read more
