For some reason, every time I've been to a Micro Center, I feel like I'm in some kind of technology clearance center of sorts. I don't know if that's the case, but it kind of feels that way. A lot of stuff here are brands I've never heard of, but you can find brand name stuff here (Apple, Belkin, Targus, JBL, etc). We came here to buy an external hard drive after the current one decided to die. When we asked an employee (I think his name was Hector), about whether or not the particular hard drive we were looking at would be right for its intended use, he was able to answer our questions. When we checked out, the cashier asked us a bunch of questions about what we were buying and if we had any questions. We asked her about protecting devices from static electricity, and she didn't have a clue about anything beyond scanning purchases and pushing the extended warranty plans. If you have questions about items here, just ask one of the employees...not a cashier. Overall, this is a nice clean store. Don't expect to find everything you're looking for. But if you need basic accessories and gaming stuff, this place has all of that. read more

Rip off. Beware. I scheduled iPhone battery replacement for $110 and they put a 30-minute appointment on my calendar. I chose them over Apple Store ($89) to save the hassle of North/Clybourn. But, when I arrived they said the first step was $49 for "diagnostics" to see if my phone was eligible for a battery replacement which would take an hour, and then they would see if the they had the battery in stock. So, the $110 repair appointment was going to cost $159. I never would have made this appointment if they had been truthful about the price up front. I told the associate that it sounded like a bait-switch rip off to me and that they should honor our agreement; he told me "well, you made the appointment here not the Apple Store". So, it's MY fault for scheduling service at a disreputable business. Noted. Won't make the mistake again. By the way, the "diagnostics" is free at Apple Store and it's just a program that runs on your phone in a few minutes. read more

So far not so good. last wednesday, we have gotten a brand new built computer.We took all the parts they gave us all brand new.Everything was in the box the following sunday.We put it together.Nothing happened.The monitor not working with the CP at all. We tried until the very following wednesday.When we could go back to the store, drop off the computer and see what happened.They said to us a day later that it was faulty parts.But now expects us to pay for the labor for them to put it together. Absolutely not.If anything I need a new part, you're the one who gave us faulty parts. Yeah, so you may not have known but asking for paying for labor after we just spent money on a parts to build a p c is absolutely insane to me. And then then you guys don't have a phone number to call your store, absolutely absurd. I never ask you guys to build the c p for us all.I ask was give us a new part because you gave me faulty parts. I would understand if we did something wrong.But we didn't.Obviously it was put together just wasn't working, and it hasn't even been ten days. Got to the store and they tell me they don't have a battery in stock! I have purchased one computer & hard drives from Micro Center over the years, I prefer going to the store, I found that the sales people were not only polite, but knowledgeable. I have never been disappointed, I had my last computer for years, which was stolen by neighbors in an apartment below us, however since I had just purchased a new hard drive 2TB & stored the old ones, (thanks to the advice of a Microcenter employee) the thieves were seriously disappointed! While my dad was checking out having finally gotten the correct laptop (the first one he bought was not correctly described in its listing and we bought it believing that it had an Ethernet port. We ended up buying a different machine after several stupid wasted trips.) David asked for the restroom. It was clear that he was asking on my behalf. The woman who answered sneered at me and said "we have no public restrooms." I've been here before. This was her responding to me. Shaming me. Condescending to me. Looking my fat body up and down, scornfully Of course her co-workers stood up for her when I took her picture. They chased me and demanded that I delete the pictures. They told me in a desperate ploy "we have no plumbing." I pooped in my pants. I hope they all enjoy the life they deserve. If only it had been a few seconds earlier, we wouldn't have bought anything from them. My dad always loved this place-- primarily for the books, but that section is so small now that if you blink you miss it. I guess reading is out of fashion. The cashier was nice. My computer was misdiagnosed with an issue with the CPU, when it was actually the GPU. I spent hundreds of dollars and wasted weeks to replace the CPU only to still not have a working computer. I took back my computer, still not fixed, and a friend was immediately able to prove that the GPU was the source of the original issue with my computer. The technicians who worked on my computer were not responsive, took longer than estimated, and gave me false information and wasted my time and money. The manager Jose Macias was stubbornly obtuse and refused to offer any form of compensation for this incredibly unsatisfactory service. I can never trust these people again, and they have severely negatively impacted my life for over a month. As a customer service manager, I am appalled by the poor service compounded by the refusal to admit any wrongdoing or offer of any compensation for a customer who spent hundreds, wasted weeks, and still didn't get their issue resolved. I got the opportunity to work the initial repair tech to get my computer repaired. The poor communication I had with the repair tech and lack of professionalism really made it hard for me to trust that area at Micro Center. The third time I came in the repair tech that worked with me called, Jonathan Sinkovits, sales supervisor. Jon was by far the most professional person I have been able to work with and communicate with. He told me he would call me when he finds out what was going on with my computer. He gave me all the information and solutions and even recommended what I could do for repair. Jon really helps someone feel comfortable and does what he says he will. Jon definitely should the the store manage as he has a great understand of customer services and all aspects of what Micro Centers values are. read more

Micro Center, as discribed by my husband, is a nerds heaven. So many different parts for your computer, in beautiful color options and even tools to help you learn to code. There were aisles upon aisles of products that I had no idea what they were but my husband sure did. I really wanted one of the light up colorful keyboards but it's not what we were there for, so maybe next time. They did well keeping up with covid restrictions, having someone help with hand sanitizer at the entrance, arrows guiding people thru the store and lines on the floor to keep people distanced while in line. The line also ran fairly smoothly and quickly, even when it was at least 10 people long. I am confident we will be back here and next time I'm definitely getting things to make my computer super colorful. read more

My customer service experience in the service area was terrible. I was advised the day before I didn't need an appointment. Upon arriving the next day the digital check-in tablet was not functioning. The service counter was calling out next. Once it was plugged back in, they went to calling names off all those who checked in behind me. Part of good customer service is just having common sense, so I decided to just leave after 4 people behind me were called. I had a fantastic experience at Micro Center! I was having an issue with my Apple MAC computer. Apple sent me to this store for repair assistance, as they do not help you once your computer is past a certain age. They called my 6 year old computer vintage. That made me laugh. I was able to get in the next morning which was great. I only had to worry about my computer and the possible loss of info for the night. When I pulled in, parking was easy. The guy by the door at the checkout counter was super friendly and directed me to the repair area. The guy behind the desk welcomed me with a smile as if he was expecting me. He was ready so there was no wait. Lewis got right to work like pro. He told me not to worry: he would take great care of my computer situation. He made everything look so easy. He kept me updated each step of the way which was great. I had everything backed up in the cloud. He found that my computer was just fine and told me my shiny new looking vintage computer "has a lot of life in her". That was music to my ears. Within 15-20 minutes, I was out the door with my computer in perfect working order and instructions to call Lewis if I had any questions at home. I was bid a warm farewell from Lewis and the nice man at the checkout. I could not be happier with the staff and my experience at Micro Center. read more

When I moved to Chicago seven years ago I had no idea where to shop for a new laptop so I asked the IT guy at my company and he recommended Micro Center. It turned out to be such a good recommendation! I purchased a Toshiba laptop then and recently went back to buy another laptop, a Lenovo. Even though several years had passed from my Toshiba purchase and my recent Lenovo, the customer service and the selection of laptops on hand were great! Both times the staff patiently answered my questions and provided all the information I needed to feel comfortable in buying a new laptop. I also think Micro Center offers a pretty competitive price for the quality. The store itself is pretty dated inside, but I'd rather deal with that and save on the price of a new laptop! Let me say this before I go on: I am a vintage computer junkie and my fiance is into the more modern computers, especially building gaming PCs. We're both very knowledgeable and passionate about computers, so we always look forward to coming here. My partner wanted to build me a PC, something that can handle music production, art, game development, *and* gaming. So we've had a lot of conversations about this, and came to MicroCenter to buy everything we need. The employees are very kind (with the exception of one so far) and I've had nice experiences with them. As an autistic person, I have a hard time looking folks in the eye and being social, but I'm never treated strangely or like a bother. When employees approach us, they are always kind and respectful, and when we are not interested in help, they are never pushy and always considerate of our knowledge. I've had people at Best Buy act like I don't know what I'm talking about, so this place is very refreshing! My only problem is a lady in the front--she is a very pale brunette who seemed very rude and pushy with another customer who did not want to open an account with the company. I would have felt very panicked if I was spoken to like that. Thankfully it wasn't me! But! We love this place. Can't wait to come back! read more

It took me a couple of months to put this review up. My mom was like no don't bash them. I had to let her know the public deserves to know!!! My mom brought her Dell computer and mine there to be worked on. Both computers had the same problem. They weren't charging so she brought both in to be worked on. Easy fix for computer experts..right? Hell naw!!!! Basically I feel like my mom was done greasy because she's a baby boomer and is totally confused when it comes to computers. She was taken advantage of by Micro Center! Earlier this month my mom brought in two Dell Laptops without warranties. Both computers weren't charging. They both had the error message that reads " ac power adapter wattage and type cannot be determined"! One of the computers were fixed. The other computer had problem after problem after problem. Initially a diagnostic was suppose to be ran on both computers. But somehow problems arose that the diagnostic didn't "catch". (Eye Roll) The first computer was fixed but the second computer needed a piece. Everyday it was something extra. Finally after my mom paid a total of $500 the second and final computer was sent home to me. It had a new charger. The computer was charged to about 88%. Once the battery was almost dead I tried to use the new charger that had JUST been purchased. The charger didn't fit into the port. So back my mom goes to Micro Center for the 4-5 time. The service technician Daniel who has been working on the computer since 8/7 said it needed another part so it can charge. How is that possible? How was that not noticed by him when he ran the initial diagnostic? However, my mom told me she would just take it back. My mom had been extremely understanding throughout the wholeee daunting process. I feel like she has been taken advantage of because she is elderly!!!!!! She took it back and was charged another $144. Supposedly, I was given a new computer battery. My mom brought it to my house and I plug it in and leave it plugged in. Still getting that same error message about the ac power adapter and wattage. The computer is at 0% power available but is still on because it's plugged in. I left it like that of three hours. It never moved from 0%. We went back and forth again and then they said the motherboard on the second computer is broken. It won't charge. Duh! It was charged when my mom brought it back to me from Micro Center. What kind of charger was used then. So at this point my mom had paid over $900, went to and fro to Micro Center at least 5 times! We are beyond frustrated with the incompetence of their service team! All of these issues should have been seen in July! I really feel like they scam older people. One of the service managers Mr. Ashton Brown did refund my mom like $121for the charger. He was very nice but was just spitting out information the service team told him. It shouldn't have taken my mom coughing up almost $1000 for them to see that the motherboard didn't work. Why the hell didn't they see it in the diagnostic!? Why didn't anyone respond to my email? Why were they able to charge the computer at the store but we couldn't charge at home with the charger that they recommended by them? Stay clear of Micro Center!!!!!! Edit: No Micro Center you're responding but disregarding everything! Of course Ashton had to give my mom the money back for the charger that was recommended by the service team that DIDN'T work. Descent selection but the staff are lunatics. Every time I go I go with intention. The sales staff are a large contributor as to whether I leave with a purchase at Microcenter Chicago. I estimate microcenter sales staff send me packing 50% of the time. I was talking with one regarding a pc Lian Li case. He could not telll me how the optional case fan lights connected to the mobo. For clarity sake, the LianLi case wiring comes very tightly wound and takes some tinkering to solve. He told me the 3 pin LianLi fan light connector he was holding was standard. I told him it was not and that I had the same ASUS ROQ STRIX B550 mobo that was 5 feet behind him on display, and them pins don't fit it. He said we did not vibe and left. Later that week I went to buy a cable. The one guy out of 50 that I could get to talk to me said that he doesn't sell to people normally and that he would help find me someone to sell me a cable. It will be awhile before I go back. If you need it, go, if you can wait, do not go as they do not really care if they help you or even like being in their weird nerd cave. read more

We were in Chicago and my son noted this place as a unique store, only so many in the country, and they sold at manufacturer price. He was interested in a new graphics card so we had to visit at first opening to ensure we could take advantage of overnight stocked items. When we arrived, there was already a line but they didn't have the graphics card anyway. The store appears to have a good variety of everything electronic, just not everything in stock. I loved Micro Center, until I moved to Chicago The last straw for me was an online pickup being cancelled for some unknown reason, and having support offer no insight or help. Listing is still up but orders get cancelled I'll still come to 'shop' physical items, but Amazon is cheaper and ships same day and you don't have to stand in a 15 person line for the couple checkouts they ever use. Micro Center @ 2645 N Elston Ave where you can find a wide variety of electrical items. It's a shame their service department is such a fu--kin joke. Years ago I bought a computer from them and was having problems from the first day. So I called and called and called, When you call in you always get an automated system that keeps you in a loop. I was so frustrated I drove to Micro Center which is about 7 miles of slow city driving 3 times before I finally returned the computer due to any type of support. SERVICE IS NOT Micro Centers strong suit that's why I almost never shop there, but I will go there for a free flash drive or a SD card as was the case today. Hey I bought a little selfie stick (ya ya you have gotta be kidding) Today I ventured here to pick up a free 32GB SD card and to see if I could find a waterproof case for my iPhone. (I should have looked on line long time ago and now it's too late). The waterproof Lifeproof case is $90 Yikes Shirley you're kidding. You charge too much money I go somewhere else. I brought my computer here with the blue screen of death hoping to get it fixed. I spoke with one of the employees, and he explained to me that in order to repair it, they would have to backup all of my data to hard drives. He said it would run me about 200 dollars, but I didn't care because all I wanted was a working computer. After about three weeks, they said my computer was ready for pickup. Upon arriving, I find out that they didn't actually do anything that I asked for. All they handed me back was my computer with all of my solid state drives pulled out and a hard drive with my data copied over. They did everything except make an effort to fix the blue screen of death- the reason I brought my computer in the first place. So basically, I paid 200 dollars for something I could have done myself. I spoke to the manager, but he said I would have to pay another 100-something more dollars for them to repair the blue screen. Needless to say, I will not be returning to micro center for any future computer repairs. read more

I was so thankful this store was open! I had ordered and received an external monitor to be able to work remotely, however once it arrived I realized I didn't have the appropriate dongle to connect it to my computer. Amazon couldn't get me one for 6 weeks and I couldn't find what I needed on the Best Buy website for pick-up. Finding out this place was open was a game changer. I also felt really safe during the COVID19 outbreak. They were throttling the number of people allowed inside. When I arrived I checked in with a guy outside with a tablet and gave him my cell number (similar to the process some restaurants do for the wait list). I then waited in my car until they texted me I could go in. They also had tape on the floor by the cash registers marking 6 foot distances. Big thanks to this store and all the staff for continuing to work and taking precautions to keep consumers safe! Having this store open is allowing me to be able to continue to do my job remotely. read more
