The California grass is tall and sharp, needs to be cut back. My friends and I have lots of little cuts on our arms from it. Also beware of bees! Bring you Benadryl or epo pen if you need, they sting one of us in the face as we were walking through the tall grass. This might not be a long hike but due to incline and climb up it is a good hike to get a good workout in. The view also did not disappoint, AMAZING!!!! As you go up of course they just get better and better. We are all so glad we finally made it to this hike!!! Parking is tight! And you are in a neighborhood, where you do not want to block there parking, only room for 3-5 cars smaller cars at one time. Love the friendship garden part of the hike with the gorgeous plants and trees that have species placards.

Parking seemed limited, but I drove past the trailhead down to a section of the neighborhood that had a number of spaces. It was probably about an 8 minute walk back up to the trailhead. It starts easy, with much forest greenery, and several routes, that will take you on the Oneawa path. I guess I hadn't mentally prepared, but was surprised by the incline and the ropes. Perhaps my lack of uppers that morning was to blame, as I not expecting this to be difficult, but I was struggling to keep up with my friends as the hike continued. It took us about an hour to see the quarry waters, which were interesting, but only needed a few minutes to take in. You do get some nice views of the bay and it's not a very long hike, so there is that, but I honestly don't think I'd come back. It felt like more effort than it was worth and there are so many other hikes on Oahu that unless I lived RIGHT there, I don't think it warrants another go.

Seems popular to come to walk their doggos, runners, bike ride, bring their kids. It's flat and paved the whole way with the exception of going to side gravel when you need to pass others. Pretty casual and very relaxing walk. I always come here whenever I'm in Kailua and need a peaceful walking spot after eating. It's easy to stop here and only takes about 35-40 minutes each way (for a very casual pace walk). Probably faster if you run or speed walk. About 3 miles long. You can turn back anytime though! Parking lot easily accessible. P.S. wear sunscreen! It's not shaded and can get quite hot during the daytime. We love coming for sunsets so it's much cooler around that time.

The walk was pretty easy to the beginning of the hike through residential area. The beginning of trail leads to 2 different trails, we chose this one. The first third of the trail is an up hill climb and once you are at the ridge level there is some up, down and level. The elevation gain according to Alltrails is 853 ft. We clocked more miles than what was listed on site which included the walk to trailhead. The trail itself is in rainforest and varying foliage and terrain. Trail was damp in some spots and there are a few areas that you will cross a stream, where if there is hard rain that would cause fast flowing water it may not be safe to cross. We had a little rain on hike which did not cause a problem. There a few areas where the trail is narrow which is common here on the island. Once you make the ridge there are there are steps mostly going down the trail. We did it cclock wise which other hikers suggested. Although I think we would have been comfortable either way. There are views of the ocean and canyon once you make it to ridge. We all enjoyed views and the foliage on this hike. Note: we used poles and crampons on for the muddy areas. Must keep eyes on the rooted areas if you don't want to trip. There are mosquitos and it can be humid in some areas of the hike. It is mainly shaded and there are nice breezes on the ridge area of the hike. Alltrades gives it a Moderate rating which is accurate. We are all over 65 and are active and know what to expect from island trails.

It might be useful to take microspikes (you know, the ones usually used for icy sidewalks) in particularly wet conditions. I got up early, hit a bakery at 6am and then started making my way up. The trail is really well maintained with beautiful views on the way up. Unlike so many Oahu hikes, the parking lot is also very straightforward.

The Kalawahine Trail is beautiful, a little muddy, and not too difficult. It connects to many other…read moretrails in the Tantalus network of trails, so you can make it a longer or shorter hike, depending on how far you go. Some sections are quite shady and there is sometimes a little bit of sunlight. One section was labeled as a native snail area but I didn't see any snails. I recommend trail shoes and even a walking stick as there are some sections that are narrow with a section where you wouldn't want to fall down. Some sections have small rocks or rocks with moss on them, and good hiking shoes can help here. I always wear bug repellent but unlike some other hikes, this one didn't seem overly buggy. A beautiful hike with some lovely views and a nice workout that's not too overly difficult.

Kamaaina parking is $4 upon entry. There will be 2 parking lots in the area. One will be uphill and downhill. However, good luck finding a parking space during the weekends because it can get PACKED! There will be signs to guide you where to go so no need to be scared. This is absolutely my favorite hike, not only is it easy but it is soooo beautiful all around! I was a bit upset about the rock barricade preventing us from going in the waterfall but nonetheless people still refuse to listen to the sign and whoops... i'm one of them HAHA. Stunning views.

The pools are up to high-waist / neck deep so we know there will be a nice waterfall in the end. Beware of the The 30-40ft. rock climbing in the middle of the hike.. there's a rope "use it as a guide" only. It took us 40 minutes going in ( we have a 4 yr.old ). Some parts are very slippery we decided to wear our "spikes" to make it faster.. a lot of stream crossings, holding on to the roots.. there was 2 dead boars on the path full of maggots, (2/3/18) so wait till it get washed off.. Tips: spikes, Atleast 1 bottled water, gloves, off/bug spray. Be courteous to the neighborhood. Turn to the right on the fork.

"Out in Ka'a'awa (North Shore)." "Yeah, but where?" "You know what? I don't remember the name? And, it really doesn't matter, cause I wouldn't recommend it anyway." I must have said that a hundred times this week. And here's why: With any great hike, at some point, there has to be a payoff. A "Wow" moment when that the little voice in your head says, "Yeah, that's why." That never happened for me here. Was it a great work out? Hell yeah, the best. My muscles hurt from my delts to my quads and hammies. Not the kind of pain you get from gym works, but the kind from physical labor. It was a educational hike. I saw things, and figured out things that I had never thought of before (and learning is fun! Knowledge is power!). Large pockets of fresh water house an abundance of Tahitian prawns. Their slender bodies and spindly claws showing easily through the waters surface. Wild guava are in abundance, and beautiful red Hawaiian ginger is sprouting around every corner. Sadly, my brain never clicked and said "wow" (not even a lower case wow). To get to the Falls you have to traverse dried river bed, and being that it's dry? That's right...no Falls. The 30-40 foot rope climb, up a moss covered wall was exhilarating, but coming down was nerve-racking. It was here that I slipped, and, trust me, spiked shoes are the worst? Ever walk on smooth tile in golf shoes? The location is marked perfectly on the Yelp map. Parking is side of the road only, and the entrance is right at the end of the dead end road. Use common sense. Look, I'm not one to tell you what to do. You wanna go? Go. I just don't see the point, there are better hikes with more value just up the road. That being said? Fresh Guava jam dose sound delicious? Right? And Tahitian prawns in shoyu and wasabi, fresh off the bbq? Well...we'll see. Aloha :)

You need to gain access to the trailhead as it is in the military housing behind Tripler Hospital. Fortunately, my hiking buddy works for the military and we were able to get to the trailhead with no problems. There was ample parking and appears to be fairly safe given that this is on military area. So while I wouldn't recommend leaving your car unlocked, the chances of your car getting broken into is pretty slim. Going up the paved path is pretty straight forward. Just make sure you take the HECO road on the left once you're on the "trail." The incline is steady and you're quickly admiring views of Oahu. We went around lunchtime so the sun was overhead and shade was a bit scarce. I can imagine that once the guavas are ripe, the air would smell guavaey lol. So it was a relief to get to the end of the paved area, do some drone shots and go back down. We would definitely go again to do the full ridge!

Kahana Bay Beach Parkから Kaneohe方面まで…read moreぐるっと一望できるTrailです。。 Trail入口の反対側に砂利土の駐車場があります。。 広くなっているのである程度分かりやすいです。。 Trailは急斜面が多いく、雨天後は土の部分が滑りやすいです。。 途中ロープが垂れているところもあります。。 急斜面が多いですが比較的距離は短く 片道30分程度で頂上まで登ることができます。。 急斜面ですので、特に復路は滑りやすく注意が必要です。。 頂上に行くとLaie方面からKaneohe方面まで 180度一望できる素晴らしい景色が待っています。。 登ってきてよかった！と実感できるTrailです。。 頂上部分は岩で狭くなっているので 注意が必要です。。 駐車スペースはTrail入り口の道路反対側にあります。。
