While exploring the area, we happened to drive by Ohio Stadium and decided to pull into the parking lot for a closer look. Even from the outside, it was incredibly impressive and much larger than I expected. It was really cool to see such an iconic stadium in person. It was magical attending my first ever Ohio State game here at Ohio Stadium in Columbus, OH. For a 7:30pm primetime game in early October, I got to watch the defending national champion and #1 ranked Buckeyes play against the Minnesota Golden Gophers. Just standing in front of Ohio Stadium was a surreal feeling. Affectionately known as "The Horseshoe", it is an iconic landmark in college football. Opened in 1922, fast forward 100 years later and the stadium is still in terrific condition. Capacity says 102,780 yet towards the end of the 3rd quarter, an announcement was made over the loudspeakers that attendance reached 105,000 for this game. Just an incredible number! It's like...the entire city of Columbus, OH comes together and celebrates Ohio State football and their rich heritage and gridiron success on Saturday gamedays. I purchased my ticket about 1 week ahead of time on TickPick and paid $150 (all included) for a seat in Section 26C and Row 40, near the top of the visiting side stands. The seat was parallel to the 30-yard line and views were unobstructed. I had no complaints about sitting too high up. My only issue was the timing of buying my ticket. When re-checking prices the day of the game, I realized had I waited and done more price discovery, similar seats in my section were going for just $40. Ouch! I paid way too much, lol. But still, for being a lifelong college football fan, no real price mattered in the end. It's about having memories that are priceless. In fact, just the week prior to this Ohio State game, I attended a "Whiteout Game" at Penn State and paid $450 for a seat. Ohio Stadium allows fans to enter through the gates 2 full hours before kickoff. During that time, I walked around the exterior of the stadium. My best photos came from the backside entrance near the tennis courts. Yeah, if you walk towards the endzone side of "the horseshoe", you'll discover tennis courts and if you keep walking behind the courts, you'll notice Ohio Stadium in the background and in my opinion, it's worthy of a picture. Off to the side of the tennis courts is a cool Ohio Statue statue that fans were taking photos in front of. It said..."The Incomparable Script Ohio, Established 1936". For this 7:30pm game, Ohio State's team entrance onto the field was electric. Fireworks shot out from behind the scoreboard like a cannon and made for an incredibly colorful display in the sky with the fading sunset. Every time Ohio State scored a touchdown, more shooting fireworks lit up the night. Also behind the stadium scoreboard were 2 residential towers lit up in red. Not sure if these red towers shine every evening or just for Ohio State games. It was cool looking nonetheless. Ohio State dominated the game from start to finish. They defeated Minnesota 42 -3, so by the time the 4th quarter started, half the stadium was empty. I stayed until the end regardless. Who knows when I'll be able to return to Columbus for another game, so I savored every moment. Finally, I must give total credit to Ohio State's band. They were fantastic. Throughout the game they played the school's signature song..."Hang On Sloopy", a tradition since 1965 made famous by The McCoys. After the game was completed, the band continued playing Hang On Sloopy as they marched out of Ohio Stadium, ending another Ohio State game in classic fashion. Overall, it was a true joy to visit Ohio Stadium and watch the Buckeyes play football in primetime. Long been a To-Do List sports goal of mine, sitting beside 105,000 fans rooting for Ohio State was an indescribable feeling that every college football fan should experience. I was gifted a tour of the stadium. I'm a huge Buckeye fan so it was a great gift. We started the tour at the press box level and what a great vantage point of the stadium Next we went to the Presidents box which was very beautiful. The leather stadium seats were one of the most comfortable seat I have ever sat in my life. Down to the field level where the Band enters and to their practice area. A quick trip around to the locker room and then down the tunnel players enter the field from, very cool. Of course we got to go on the field and grab some photos. What a great adventure ! read more

I have been to at least two, maybe three or four Buckeye games at this stadium because my husband is an alumnus and a huge OSU fan! Since I absolutely despise football, the highlights for me of each game were the National Anthem and the incredible OSU band's halftime shows!! The games we attended were in the days of the pre-game tailgate parties at the nearby Varsity Club - officially called "The Original Varsity Club." I think the Varsity still has pre-game tailgates, just not like the iconic ones we attended with a live band outdoors who were really entertaining. The people at the Varsity were fun loving, and kind, and the crowd was lively and fun. We really enjoyed the band, too! Because my husband has been to so many OSU games and actually ran track for OSU and had a job of sorts with the football team, he knows the "ins and outs" of parking and the logistics of attending a game. These pieces of the experience were all great! Every halftime OSU band performance is beyond exceptional, especially in person! We enjoy watching the OSU band on YouTube! They really are an entertaining, talented group! Fun to me was standing beside the sidewalk while all the footballs players run from their area (clubhouse?) beside the stadium proper onto the field! Those guys are huge in person! And, their enthusiasm was contagious. O-H-I-O!!!! read more

It's a glorious old stadium. Home of the Ohio State Buckeyes. Much smaller than I thought it would be. I've watched it on television for over 60 years and I finally made it here. The first game was in October of 1922 and the original capacity was only 66,210. Thank goodness they gave it the face-lift at the turn of the century. It now seats 102,780; however, on November 26, 2016, Curtis Samuel ran a hand-off 15 yards for a touchdown in the 2nd overtime as Urban Meyer's #2 ranked Bucs beat TTUN led by Jim Harbaugh and ranked #3, in front of 110,045 fans. A stadium record to this day. I did notice it's a quiet place. I just assumed that on any given Fall Saturday, it would be the loudest place in Ohio. IF I could leave lower I would. Parking was a disaster,no real directions to get where you're trying to go. The people attending the concert in that state are the most rude I've came across. The absolute craziest part is that none of the ushers can help you find your seats, as if that isnt their only job. I never did see the concert that I was at and paid for because everything about that stadium was a disaster and extremely irritating. I will never go back there. read more

I have been to many concerts in many states. I have never seen a traffic flow/parking disaster like the one at Ohio State Stadium. 2 hours into the concert and half the parking spaces are empty because the total lack of directions and planning results in total gridlock. It wasn't any better at the stadium, where we were directed to a gate on the far side and the scanners had been REMOVED so we had to circle to stadium once to get in and AGAIN to get to our seats and missed most of the concert. The place is a big pile of garbage. No nostalgia or culture compared to other historic venues. Bathrooms were a mess, like nobody took trash out all game. Concessions ran out of items mid game. Parking is a nightmare. Concourses are tight as can be. At least other historic stadiums has completed renovations to keep up with the times. Even if you're not a Buckeye fan, The Shoe is a must-see! The architecture of the rotunda is stunning. Photos can never do it justice. The game day atmosphere is always lively. The ushers and concession workers are always extremely friendly and helpful. I've gone to dozens of games as a former student and recently returned for the Nebraska game - it was great to see that the experience is just as great. Oh, what's not to love about Ohio Stadium, aka the Shoe (because it's shaped like a horseshoe). Ohio State football games are nothing short of magical. The spirit is high within the stadium walls but it doesn't stop there. It bleeds into the neighboring streets, bars, restaurants, and everything in between. It's certainly an experience. If you're in Ohio and a OSU fan, it's definitely a bucket list item, one hundred percent. I've been to tailgate once or twice and this year I attended my first game. Thank goodness they figured out the electronic ticket situation because for me, getting in was a breeze. My seats were in section A, which is awesome because that's closest to the field. They were also easy to find and the view wasn't too bad. The energy of the crowd surrounding my seats was just what I needed on a cold, snowy day. There was a bathroom nearby and all the food and drink a girl could want. Stadium pretzels are my weakness and the one I got here was fluffier than the ones I normally get. I loved it. Prices were what I expected, so while high, I came prepared. On the flip side, leaving was also a breeze. I love that the trail is close by because my group was able to walk home. I cannot wait to come back for another game, but until then, can I get an O-H.. I-O!!! read more

Football team: Great. Undeniable. Stadium Pros: Crumble tent. Drone show. Bacon vending machine? Stadium Cons: Bacon vending machine? No bathrooms; Your two options are a portapotty or a tent that is dark with no lights and the steam from your own piss wafting back at you. Fans: The most nilla unelectric overhyped fans in cfb. Switched back and forth from their only two cheers of seven nation army and helping each other spell their own 4 letter state. 50% nice and pleasant to talk to 50% rude as they could be. HOWEVER, the most terrifying thing was after the game instead of swaying to a fight song or alma mater, they swayed to a funeral bell in complete silence. It was the most solemn creepy children of the corn thing I have ever experienced. read more

We went here recently for an OSU game. It is certainly iconic and seats a ton of people. It is also old and not designed well. First, it is tough to get to many of the seats and many of the aisles are not wide (and there are not enough of them. Fortunately, people did not seem to get up much. Then the bathroom situation is really bad and there are also not enough places to buy refreshments. Then in the stadium, the big board for replays is not really bad and it is difficult to follow stats (they show little data about game--and do not even show down and yardage). The people were friendly and the marching band was great, but the stadium could use an update. read more

We have always had the best experience at Ohio Stadium for THE Ohio State Buckeyes Football games. The staff are always so friendly and kind! Our recent experience was pretty amazing as well. First, we decided to take our daughter to her first Buckeyes game. Because it was her first Buckeyes game, we decided to swing by guest services. The guest services desk provides all first-timers a first game certificate. It's legit. We recently had it framed. The concessions now offer online mobile ordering as well so instead of standing in line for an hour, you can place your order online and then swing by the concession stands for a quick pickup. Obviously, the halftime show is always a must see at the stadium as well! If you have never been, you should definitely try to stop by the stadium. It is a great atmosphere and there are always plenty of photo opportunities here! GO BUCKS! PS. Also, if you are a runner, the OSU 4 Miler always ends at the 50 yard line of Ohio Stadium as well! Let's start with the parking, ugh, if you can find one within 2 miles without paying $40 and parking illegally (which I highly, highly recommend NOT doing!) If attending a game, plan to come super early to ease into parking and then getting up to the stadium. Once you get there, plenty of bars and a tailgate to hop to prior to the game. Lots of people have their own tailgates in and around the parking lots if your lucky to have that friend. Once inside, the seating includes AA, A, B, C, D decks. C and D decks are up top and can be scary at the top, top row especially windy or rainy. B deck is mostly covered by C deck and protects from mother nature, however, your view could be obstructed with a column. AA and A decks will set you back an arm and a leg if you get a single ticket, especially the Big 10 opponents or highly anticipated rivals from the other conferences. You can donate to the university and depending on the level you could get yourself priority seating for season passes and parking. This is the new process as of 2022. More money = great seats. The food is subject to typical game food such as nachos, dogs, pizza, etc. Known restaurants are Hot Chicken takeover and Barrios. Beer and malt liquor options but Barrios offers margaritas (my fav!!!) Download the Ohio State Buckeyes app and order then they alert you when your food is ready. No long line waiting, especially halftime. Free wifi makes it easy to access the internet at the game but can be spotty so plan ahead for your mobile ticket download and the app to pre-order food. Overall, a fan or not, you will have a great experience in the Horseshoe (the nickname of the stadium). read more

I remember it well, it was October 28, 2006 game day at "The Shoe", we arrived early for the Minnesota game and to experience Hineygate which was billed as the largest tailgate party in the world at that time located just north of Ohio Stadium, in the former Holiday Inn on Lane parking lot (a true bucket list item). If you missed it well it's no longer there so sorry for your luck but there is some watered down version of it further down the road. The winds were gusting to 35 mph for the 3:30 PM kickoff - we were half in the tank as we made our way to the stadium and finally to our seats courtesy of my good friend Aaron and his lovely girlfriend now wife Lisa both Ohio State Alumnus. The hype here is incredible and during this era under Jim Tressel, the Buckeyes looked almost unbeatable with a 12-1(8-0 Big Ten) winning season. The 44 - 0 victory over Minnesota was impressive but not the highlight of this game, it wasn't in the same vicinity of a game time highlight as was the moment Jack Nicklaus dotted the "i" at halftime. My first time here (August 2023) to see Morgan Wallen! The staff is friendly and very helpful. I definitely feel like the rows in each section could be posted in a more clear location for people to see where their seats are. There were a decent amount of people (me included) that were in the wrong section/row and were supposed to be a section over. (This view is from 4A). I attended my first Buckeye's Game. I'm a huge fan. Here's what I learned. The stars aren't for the experience (see first bullet) but instead the entire experience. - - The Game and Energy: 5 stars. This is why you're here, right?! The game, the announcers, the fireworks after each touchdown. High fives with random strangers. TBDBITL. The energy and excitement even in the pouring down rain was electric. - - The Seats: 2 stars. What's the etiquette here? It's pouring down rain. The stands are soaked. Sitting down means my butt will become wet and the knees and thighs of my jeans will get soaked. Standing means I'll avoid both of these things. Lots of people are standing but the people directly behind me are seated. And they wanted me to sit down as a result. What do you do? In case you're wondering, I acquiesced. And dealt with wet jeans the rest of the day and evening. The people behind me argued that the people behind them were seated and couldn't see if we stood up. When I looked back later, only the row behind them were seated. So I stood up the rest of the game like 90% of the people in our section. Also, it is a tight fit. Standing up actually affords you more space. So there's that. Good to know for the future. - - The Food: 4 stars. There were quite a few great choices. I saw everything from chicken and waffles to dippin dots. I ended up going with a taco/burrito bowl station and it did not disappoint. - - The Bathrooms: 1 star. So this was a serious problem. Even after halftime, there were crazy lines for BOTH the men and women. There's gotta be a way to fix this. Create a port o potty bank with 20 or 30 stalls or something. I don't know, but plan to have a heck of time finding the line to the bathroom and a LOONNNGG wait. - - Drink selection: 4 stars. There were plenty of drink stations throughout the stadium. There was the cheap beer and the craft brew sections. The craft choices were sparse, but at least they had them. read more

I recently attended the NHL Stadium Series at Ohio Stadium. The NHL did an excellent job, and the game was fantastic. However, the venue fell short in several key areas. I get the history of the stadium and the nostalgia, but for the price of the tickets, a fan is paying for more than just nostalgia. The food and beverage selection at this stadium is the worst I've experienced in recent times. The only available hot dog was Sugardale (bottom of the barrel sausage). Upon entering the stadium i purchased a Coors Light from a vendor. The outdoor temp was 26 degrees, yet somehow the mountains were not blue! No joke, this was the second worst beer I've had in my life; this is coming from a big Coors Light fan mind you. I don't know if it was leftover from football season, but it was absolutely terrible. This beer was so bad that I made the decision to switch to coffee. First cup was fine; second sucked bad. Beyond food and beverage, the logistics of the stadium could use serious work. There seems to be zero thought put into the flow of fans coming and going. Temporary fence was installed outside the west end of the stadium forcing all exiting fans into a major bottleneck. To exacerbate this bottleneck, police then forced pedestrians against the fence so vehicles could drive down the sidewalk. People were smashed against the fence and nearly run over by said vehicle. I'm not being dramatic, this was actually a major safety issue. Again, the outdoor hockey game and production was great. However, everything else involving this stadium is severely lacking. It's not like OSU can't afford decent facilities. Let's be better. read more

I have been a corporate beverage manager for several hotels, music venues, etc. And I can tell you our $14 drinks had no alcohol in them. I fully understand liquor laws and that obviously you can't give someone too much alcohol, and there's a limit to how much can go in one drink. Some states it's 1.25, 1.5, etc. Whatever they gave us had to be under 1oz. We decide to drink beer instead since the drinks were a ripoff, and whaddya know. Its almost all warm. So not only was their beer selection incredibly small, but it was almost always warm. We still bought several rounds, and we had a very good time. But it's very obvious that the venue is not managed well, and it all it does is reinforce the notion that Ohio is quite lacking in hospitality. I was at Marshall game, I spent 400.00 for 2 tickets, 30.00 to park, at the end of 1st quarter my girlfriend and I went to get some cold drinks with ice, we decided to get the sovniver cups at 14.00 dollars, you have to go to another machine to get ice, well 3 machines later no ice, it was a very hot day.
