Affordable and great care. This visit I was the driver for some extraction and deep cleaning. The office experience was good but the lobby/waiting room got crowded at times but would clear out as folks went back for their appointments. We had priced around and because the Dental Faculty Practice is part of OSU it was in network. Saved us a bunch and surprising what was quoted around $1,200+ was under $150 here and the care was excellent. One more trip to go but I would consider this for my future dental needs as well. They never answer the phone when you need something, but if it's about money and they know you got money personally they'll answer the damn phone!!! they scheduled my consultation way out three months away. That's ridiculous for just a consultation!!! what has this world came to??? I also am trying to schedule an appointment for my sister and my sister can't even get an answer from anybody. She says every time she calls they don't answer well I just tried calling and it's funny how they're not answering they used to answer to me all the time I've been calling all morning!!!! These fools are the worst dentists I've ever had the unfortunate opportunity to experience. First of all I was there no issues Clinic from 6 AM until 2 PM on a Monday. They went from pulling one tooth that still had infection in it which I found out from another dentist that they should've never done the extraction with me having infection, still lingering. But instead of pulling one too, they pulled three and on the last tooth instead of just getting it over with all the people who were assisting as well as the dentist, pulling the teeth walk out of the room. They leave me sitting there, half numbed totally exhausted and finally I asked where they're going, and they say another dentist needed to borrow the tool they were using in my mouth. That is so insane! I mean, did they even clean the utensil before they came back which took them a whole hour to return to finish pulling my final tooth. And when they finally pulled the final two, I wasn't even fully numbed out and I felt the entire thing. I've been dealing now with this infection, leaving them coming back for two weeks now since my extraction and when I actually finished, they didn't even give me aftercare instructions so I had no idea what I was doing. These people should be sued or heavily monitored by some sort of higher up management that overseas things like this. I would never ever again go back to this dental clinic and what ad is OSU is one of the most wealthy and professional hospitals in the country, but yet their dental clinic has these ridiculous issues. read more

Waited months, Doctor didn't examine me. Referred me to resident program. waited months...while resident was very nice. However, made it very clear their program was total chaos. Lost medical records, took personal health information from my iPhone to what I believe was a personal phone. No post appointment communication as promised, no returned emails, phone calls for SIX months. Only thing they're good at is taking your money. They've negatively impacted my health. You cannot put patients on a surgical wait list that doesn't exist. Shame on The Ohio State university. Your residents and patients do not deserve this. read more

I used the University Dental facility some years back when I needed a root canal and temporary crown and had no dental insurance. I wish I could remember the doctor's name (or student doctor - I cannot remember his title)...he was exceptional in every way. I opted to have everything done at once so as to avoid a second visit which was my choice. All told, I was in the chair for almost 4 hours. The doctor was superb the whole time explaining everything he was doing and answering my myriad of questions. This was my first root canal and I had plenty of questions. He talked with me the whole way through explaining noises and things I would feel and being very thorough in the process. I have zero fear of dentists and find the whole process fascinating so I loved the play-by-play as it were. The doctor took his time and the pain was non-existent. Merely the pressure of your teeth being worked on. The part that was somewhat uncomfortable was the sheer amount of time I sat with my mouth wedged open. But that was minor. The doctor did a fabulous job through and through and due to unforeseen circumstances, the temporary crown he applied ended up staying in place for nearly two years. That's some high quality cement! Highly recommend them for any dental work you need, especially a root canal. read more

My son had upper jaw corrective surgery and he is not feeling so good after that. It is 7 years when it was done. Last several years he feels worse. He has headaches,. Nausea, he has some eye infection, gastro infection. Dark, sometimes blue circles around eyes. We read that we can help him by doing screws removal. And for 2 years we can't dental clinic even to take us seriously. They did no testing except flat x-ray s. They cover each other not sure why, why they do not care to listen and do sorow testing and remove those screws. Heartless people , for two years even did not listen to us. Good that Dr. Larsen retired. The guy is from metal. I regret so much that I insisted my son to do the surgery. . I can't sleep anymore seeing what happening with my son. And they do not care. Please do not do that surgery It is big mistake. And they will not help you. read more

Took my mother-in-law today with infected gum. We were told by a dentist from a prior visit at a different location that she had a possible cyst that could be cancerous. The dentist told us she would need to see an oral surgeon. We called 6 Oral surgeons four of those six told us they do not take senior citizens that are living in assisted care facilities. WHAT!!!! After a through 4 hour examination third year dental student Angela. Angela explained everything she did for Gary's mom. She was so kind and compassionate as were all the employees. My mother-in-law as advanced dementia and We can't thank your team enough for how well she was treated and finding the problem which was serious but not nearly as serious as we were told. read more

My son had an infected tooth, so I brought him here. We got there between 630am and 7am and there were already 6 people in line in front of us. Get there early if you're trying to be seen because they only see 10 patients a day, 7 on Fridays. I'm giving them 5 stars because my son's pain is 100% resolved and *almost* everyone was helpful, friendly and professional. The one exception was Kelly, one of the receptionists. She had an issue with the fact that I was speaking for my son, who is over 18. Someone must have forgotten to let her know that a patient has the right to have anyone speak for them and her approval is not necessary. She must have also forgotten that she is working in a dental clinic, so speaking may be painful for some patients. When I spoke to the supervisor regarding her horrible attitude and the fact that she snapped at me for speaking on my son's behalf, she stated that she never gets complaints about Kelly and she must have been having a bad day. However, when I spoke with someone else, they said that Kelly had been getting multiple complaints like mine and the issue was becoming more common for her. And honestly, if she can't be at least cordial to people, even during a bad day, she shouldn't be there. None of us wanted to be there at that moment, but she's getting paid to be there. I'm still giving 5 stars because I don't want anyone to delay their care based on one person's attitude. Maybe just avoid Kelly. read more

This was my first "visit" to this endodontics clinic. I needed to get some tooth work that my regular dentist doesn't do, thus I was sent here with a referral. For a one-time visit, this was a good experience. The secretary I spoke with a few days before gave me clear directions to this building and where to park. In the door, up to the 4th floor, last sliding window on the right. Since this was my first time, I had to fill out four or five papers. It took about 30 minutes. Dr. Chad was my Resident. Friendly guy. Gentle. He's from Nevada doing his residency at OSU. I walked outta there exactly an hour and a half after I got there - pretty awesome, since that's what the front desk told me. Co-vid precautions: terrible. Don't go there unless you absolutely have to. And they are not following the precautions they claim to be following on their web site. I have another dental procedure that I should have treated (not an emergency) , but I will not be going there. The worst is that the exam rooms are open to the hallway and to each other and doctors and their assistants move among them. They say on the website that they have plastic doors to close off exam rooms, which they do (they are heavy plastic that can be rolled down like blinds), BUT they don't use them! None were pulled down in the 10-12 exam rooms I walked by or the one I was in. And my dentist was treating two patients (in different rooms) at the same time. None of the dentists or anyone else has been tested-- perhaps they are concerned that one of the many people working there would test positive and then they would have to close the whole clinic (at least I hope they would). Given the odds, I think there probably is at least one positive because so many people work there (there are around a hundred according to their web site). It was not apparent to me that they were scheduling fewer patients than usual-- the number waiting in the waiting area was not noticeably different than usual. They do not disinfect chairs after patients sit on them. They do not monitor the number of people in the elevator. The pen they gave me in the exam room to sign something was not covered in plastic. read more

They are disorganized, not very friendly and incredibly expensive. We went there after a referral from my husband's primary and were charged almost $4000 for a mouth piece for sleep apnea. I went to the OSU dental clinic before COVID to get fitted for a retainer and then of course could not come get it for a few months since they are closed. I was supposed to have a follow up appointment to come get the retainer and I have tried calling numerous times to come get it (it cost me a lot of money!) and the front desk will keep transferring me to the orthodontics office and then the orthodontics office keeps transferring me back to the Dental Faculty office, this process has repeated itself for days. I have a feeling they aren't sure what happened to the retainer or something like that and they just do not want to tell me, I am totally not sure what to do. I would recommend going to a smaller dental office that keeps better track of its patients. read more

The secretarys are amazing and very courteous -- very quick to schedule a backup appointment. And very courteous. I cannot believe the reputation it has for being one of the best and highly qualified in the state. Just to set up appointments, it takes them 2 weeks to call back. Just now, after calling in early Jan for an emergency, I was called to come in for a repair. Its 3 weeks later. For longer treatment plans, you can expect to wait about 2 years. They are very disorganized. And defensive when you complain about their services and lack of communication. The receptionist, exceptionally rude and mean-spirited, is all I can say. If you don't like where you work, go elsewhere. I know I will go elsewhere to get what I need done. I give up. read more

The dentists and hygienists are fine, but the admin staff are unhelpful and unfriendly. The whole place is extremely bureaucratic, for example they charge $15 to send a copy of an xray to a specialist. I would recommend going to a smaller dental practice where they have more interest in their patients and better customer service. The systems are very rigid. If your first appointment is on a Wednesday you always have to see the dentist on the same day. read more

I started coming to OSU dental clinic because I was between jobs and didn't have proper dental insurance, and this was the more affordable option at the time. To be frank- parking is a nightmare and expensive. You'll wait anywhere from 5 minutes to 1 hour. The services I had done had to be REDONE a couple of months later through a real dentist. This was my first dental visit in 1-2 years as I haven't had regular health insurance, let alone dental coverage. Dr. Sarah Mikhail seemed nice at first, but then made rude comments about the state of my teeth, the amount of fillings I have, and to top it all off, the state of my skin. I had a pretty severe bout of hormonal acne on my jawline and cheeks while waiting for an appointment with a dermatologist. And, quite possibly, only because I'm covered by my mom's insurance until Valentine's Day. the dentists who oversaw my care were very personable and didn't have an issue with getting after me about flossing properly. I'm going to point out that this office is only for employees at Ohio State University and their dependents. If my mom didn't work for OSU, I would've had to go to the student clinic. I'm sure that if this office was open to the general public, the quality of service would go downhill. At the faculty clinic, I was scheduled immediately for both appointments, I didn't have a student dentist (which meant I wasn't waiting around forever so a student could get his/her instructor), and I didn't spend five million years waiting to be seen. I sent my son to the OSU Dental Faculty Practice for a cleaning expecting that he would get high quality care. Instead, he had unnecessary sloppy work done and we were charged over $1000 for work that fell apart and needed to be restored by our family dentist. This is part of a letter our dentist sent to their office and we received no response: "It was clear to me upon examination that the preparation of this tooth never broke the enamel and as I restored this tooth it was clear that there was a LARGE area of decay below the enamel that had been untreated by your dentist." "Upon further examination of my records...I suspect it was retreated needlessly. I also suspect that since no anesthesia was used anywhere and you worked in 3 quadrants and did 5 restorations that none of the restorations broke the enamel, were completely excavated, or properly treated. I find it hard to believe that this poor quality of work came out of the Faculty Clinic..." Now we are wasting time and money fixing the damage that OSU Dental Faculty Practice caused my son's teeth (that we actually had to pay for). read more

Prior to my appointment today I was NEVER advised to arrive 30 mins early to fill out any paperwork. I was however called to see if I wanted one of my free cleanings for the year. Again NO mention of new patient paperwork. NO ONE EVEN TOLD ME WHO MY DENTIST WAS TO BE prior to my appointment so I was truly lost. I was supposed to have an appointment at 8:45am but arrived due to being lost. I was told I would have to reschedule my appointment because I arrived late. The representative at the front, my left their right, was rude and made it seem like my fault for not knowing to come 30 mins early. Never was told I apologize that I was not given details for my new patient appointment. Completely dissatisfied with the level of service I received. The only part of my interaction I was satisfied with was that my parking was validated. That service is offered to everyone I believe. read more

I went for an evaluation and asked for a quote which could not be given on the day of my appointment as with most dentist. Then the doctor said I needed another appointment for him to even provide it. They were not up to date on my insurance and what was covered and could not provide information as to cost. They are behind the times in terms of ease of records transfers to other dentist. I had one x-ray and had other appointments within the next few weeks. They said they will try and e-mail my x-ray but all notes have to be sent by snail mail. The office is terribly outdated and not patient friendly. Its a shame because i liked the dentist but I would prefer to have an office that actually can handle billing, provide accurate information, respond in a timely manner using modern technology and is more accommodating to patient needs. read more

Unfortunately, I had a terrible experience at the OSU dental facility. The student hygienist I saw was fabulous, but the dentist, Dr. Bertman-Zats, who spoke with me had me sobbing within minutes. She was unprofessional, extremely rude, and her opinions seemed very out of date. I have been going to the Dental Faculty Practice, not to be confused with the Dental Clinic where students do the work while supervised by faculty, for over 25 years, my hygienist Jan Bourke, my dentist Dr. Stephen Rosenstiel, and my periodontist Dr. John Walters are the best practitioners of their profession I have encountered in all my 70 years. When I came to them, my teeth were terrible. I grew up in a period when preventive care and flouride were unheard of, so pretty much every tooth except those in the front had a filling, a crown, or a root canal. But all these people are warm and caring, funny and kind, and do extraordinary work. Incidentally, parking couldn't be easier--just park right across the street in the 12th Avenue garage and get your ticket validated when you check out after your appointment. read more

Make sure to leave yourself PLENTY of time to figure out parking and find the location! There is so much construction on campus we got pretty turned around trying to find it, and once we got in the building we actually needed a dental student's help to find the Faculty Practice (that being said, he and everyone else was incredibly kind and helpful! He agreed that the building is very confusing, and he also wasn't sure where the practice was). The entire staff was super nice, and the dentist was a sweetheart. However, after getting me in the dental chair and taking my medical history, the hygienist and dentist disappeared for over 20 minutes with no explanation or apology -- very strange. And it took 10 minutes to scheduled my next cleaning because of the way their scheduling computer program works. That being said, everyone I interacted with was very sweet and made me feel very comfortable. The appointment itself was just fine. read more

After 2 trips that was 8 hours of driving. Four hundred miles, six hours of sitting in the dental chair. 39 dollars in gas. 18 dollars for parking. Plus dental charges. I walked away with nothing done. If you have something simple and live close by, it might be the place to go. This has been a total was of my time and money. They just don't really want to listen to you. It's their way or the highway. Ever thing was nice and clean. That's the best I can say about the place. I love OSU Dental Faculty Practice. I work at OSU Medical Center and love the convenience. I do not recall having to have 2 separate visits for the inital evaluation and then cleaning, but I have been going here for many years and may not remember. My husband and I see Dr. Dan Reed who is extremely knowledgeable (and funny!) and has a very common sense approach. My son sees Dr. Mctigue who is wonderful with children. The hygenists have always been excellent, very professional and I learn something from each one. The wait is usually short and they have sometimes squeezed us in for appointments when appropriate. Staff seem busy, but cordial. They usually offer the same day/time as a courtesy but I have always been offered options of day and morning vs. afternoon. Also, I was referred to an outside specialist for a root canal (who was great!) and was not charged $15 fee. I see OSU DFP as providing quality care of the highest standards. The practice is surprisingly friendly/family-like for being in an academic setting. I would not go anywhere else! read more
