This is a smaller gallery located in an older house. There are several display cases full of plates, vases, and other standard porcelain items. There are some unique ones with the octopus and this flower sculpture from porcelain which I really liked. There is a section where you can see an old kiln and the process of painting porcelain plates too. The curator was friendly and nice to talk to as well. Ugh we are embroiled in a nasty confrontation with Elizabeth's (now former) piano teacher. He wouldn't let her play the piano in her recital because she "wasn't ready" but he would accompany her on guitar and she could sing for an extra $30 . So I learned to play the sheet music so I could accompany her for free and he still wouldn't let her perform. So we said we won't be back could we have our $150 for June back and he said no we can't get our money back. Cue a bunch of angry texts later (on both sides) and he still refuses to refund us. What would you do? Should I drop it? Is it worth the $150?

I was originally drawn to Giddens because I was looking specifically for Manuel Sarmiento's new 'home' after the Artisan's Collective in the BAD closed down (wahhhh) & found he has quite a bit of work here. Also my daughter needed to research female artists for her an art class assignment, so I just happened to be able to have my cake and eat it too here. That day we both accomplished our goals and she walked away with a plethora of (LOCAL) artists to be inspired by and bring to the attention of her instructors and classmates; I walked away with 3 pieces I LOVE. Two pieces (a sculpture and table) by Manuel Sarmiento & a diptych by Rosemary Riddle-Achelpohl. (See pics, aren't they amazing!) Let me also say that a great bonus to this gallery is that it's staffed by said artists, not just someone there just for a paycheck. What a joy to be able to speak with them about their work, hear their stories & see their passion for their craft. There's nothing like having a direct connection to the artists themselves. But don't fret, they know not only about their own work but have vast knowledge on all of the Gallery happenings and other artists showing in this gallery. So ask away about anything and if they don't know the answer they will jump through hoops to get it. Talk about Service! I was so impressed with the time and energy spent on both myself and my daughter in our different goals for the trip. The pic I took is awful, but if you know your art mediums, you can clearly see how remarkable it is that this was done in watercolor. Ms. Brotherton is truly mind-blowing in her talent, a master! As usual Cherie was helpful, focused, accommodating, knowledgeable, and a bonus; she's thoughtful. She remembers her clients on sight. She remembers what they bought. She cares! GO to GIDDENS!!!

At the end of the night, she even left extra supplies for my daughter and her friend to keep painting. You'll be surprised at what you can create with her expertise. My husband and I can barely draw anything, yet we were both thrilled with how our paintings turned out. Every time I see our artwork, it brings a smile to my face.
