Would give 10 stars if I could. Small place basically take out. Best pulled pork ever. You pick a bread(white or brown) a spread(sage and onion or haggis) and then a sauce. They have three different sizes. The servers are friendly and walk you through if it's your first time. The pulled pork is tender, juicy and cooked just right.
With all the sit down restaurants some times a good BBQ sandwich is perfect. Oink made me squeal. The roll was very fresh and the pork meat tender and flavorful. Oink added something like a spread to the pork (which is not common in the US) but it seemed to add flavor. The joint gets crowded but service is fast. The pig decor added to the ambiance.
I like when restaurants focus on doing just one thing really well. Limited seating, but it's a quick meal, so you should be able find space. No public restroom, so be sure to grab a lot of napkins because it's gonna get messy. Grunter on Brown Bread with Sage and Onion Stuffing and Apple Sauce: Well, the Grunter is definitely a huge portion. So much pork, sometimes you don't even get bread in the bite. Really liked the tenderness of the pork. Seemed fresh, since I saw the worker scooping from the whole roast hog behind the counter. I especially like the little bit of crispy skin that was placed on top the bun. The sage and onion stuffing was mild, but added some flavor. The apple sauce might not have been a strong enough pairing. Maybe mustard would have stood up to all that pork.
For being a steak lover, my bf made a shocking declaration -- good pork is superior to good beef; though the latter is easier to find, in his experience. He was all *heart eyes emoji* at the giant roast pig in Oink's window. Similar to Filipino lechon, American South pulled pork, & Hawaiian kalua pig, Scottish hog roast draws large crowds because it is tender & flavorful. We ordered the smallest sandwich on the menu -- the Piglet size for £5.95 on a white roll -- & for toppings, chose sage & onion stuffing, apple sauce, & extra crackling (55p more.) I have no doubt I'd be dragged back to Oink if I were to drag my bf back to Edinburgh. Cashiers get you in & out as quickly as they can but the store is small & absolutely jam packed. We ate right outside on Victoria St. which is a great memory from our trip!
A highly recommended sandwich shop we were told to try. I tried the Oink with white bread stuffing was a homemade haggis with homemade mustard mayo and adding crackling. Meat was very tender and the crackling was perfect contrast to the melt in your mouth pork and bread. Wife had the Oink with brown bread with Sage and Onion and homemade chili cheese adding crackling also. The service is fast and staff is helpful in choosing what you want in your sandwich. The store itself is small and limited seating if it was not raining at the time we would have just taken it to go and eat it while working.
Located on one of Edinburgh's prettiest, most picturesque streets in Old Town, Oink simply can't be missed! Farmers Adam and Sandy wanted to bring their natural products from the farm to the city. Passionate about good honest food, they introduced Edinburgh to their deliciously fresh Scottish hog roasts at the local Farmers Market which turned out to be a huge success. In 2008, Oink was born and they have been serving Edinburgh's locals and visitors alike along Victoria Street and the Royal Mile ever since. If the large, chopped up roast in the window doesn't catch your eye, the bright pink signage surely will! Who can resist delicious pulled pork on freshly baked bread rolls? I know I couldn't. Head inside and you'll find their menu explaining how to order the Hog Roast Rolls. The freshly carved hog roast is served in a white or brown roll with a choice of sage & onion, apple sauce, chilli relish or haggis and topped with crispy crackling. I can't remember which stuffing and sauce I got exactly, but I do remember it was quite tasty! Oink was a really convenient, fast-casual meal and it was also one of the more affordable meals we had in Old Town. They wrap your sandwich up in foil so we were also able to easily bring it along with us and eat it on the way to our next destination. We visited in May of 2022, but I imagine (and hope) not much has changed. Overall, definitely recommend a stop here!
Amazing pig roast. Highly recommend for lunch after walking and shopping along Victoria Street. Would for sure get it stuffed with haggis and the apple sauce topping.
It's a fast food restaurant served pulled pork. They have 2 locations in Edinburgh, we went to the one on Victoria street while we were in the area. They have a very tiny dining area. It's very crowded inside so I noticed people didn't really sit down to eat. The line was very long but it moved pretty quickly. They have menu on the wall in English, French, Spanish and Italian showing how to order food here. Basically, you can order Hog in a box ( 250gm meat without bread) OR with freshly baked roll comes in 3 size - piglet (80gm small), Oink (160gm medium) and grunter (250gm large). Both options come with 1 stuffing and sauce. Besides that you can also get their combo with crips or drink. Service was fast and super friendly. We ordered the hog in the box with apple sauce, haggis, and a Grunter with homemade BBQ sauce. I honestly didn't get the hype of this place. Pull pork was dry and not flavorful. Apple sauce and haggis made the taste a bit different/unique. I had pull pork better else, especially in Asia. Overall, good portion for under 10 GBP but I wouldn't return.
Piggybacking off of Ricardo J.'s review, yes this did hit the spot. While taking a stroll through Victoria Street, I noticed a line coming out of this fast-casual spot. Of course, it piqued my curiosity and I found myself waiting in line like a lemming. They focus on their pork sandwiches. The menu is not big but works for them. Choose from several different combinations and sizes. There's a small area to sit down to take a quick bite. Grunter- Brown bread, pulled pork, haggis, with homemade chili jam. This was the largest size. They toast bread, so it's nice, warm, and fluffy. The pork was juicy. And the creamy haggis with the tang from the chili jam paired perfectly with the pork. There's just a lot of comforting savoriness in each bite. Overall Service: Even though there was a line, it moves quickly. Everyone here was jovial and helpful. Highly recommend this spot.
Thank you, Rosie Q., for putting this place on my list of places to eat in Edinburgh. It definitely hit the spot when it was needed. We came here late in the day and, like a good Texas BBQ place, it sells meat until they run out most days and not when they are slated to close. I still managed to get an "Oinker" size sandwich with the pork, chili sauce, and sage and onion mix. Think of it as roast pork with some spicy sauce and stuffing flavor. Yet the tenderness of the pork and the quality of ingredients elevated it to something much more. The staff was friendly enough and answered all the questions some other customers had - such as - "is this pork?" Here's your sign. The two young men hustled and helped us get a great sandwich at a great price. This was the perfect spot for a quick warm bite on a cold day. Seating is limited, though, so be prepared to eat on the street. Enjoy the view of Victoria Street, then, and good luck trying to take your time eating a masterpiece from here.

"How big is the 'Oink' sandwich?"... First off the mark I have to give a shout out to the staff who answered this question again and again with smiles on their faces while I was there. A valid question, in fairness, as the 'Oink' is the most popular choice here, but probably not great craic if you get asked it every five minutes. Located on the very picturesque Victoria Street, Oink is the perfect place to go if you're looking for delicious food on the go. What you see is exactly what you get here, pulled pork sandwiches done really well. There's a very small seating area at the back but most people get their food to go. The service is excellent and turn-around time is probably only a couple of minutes. So how does it work? You choose your bread, size, sage and onion or haggis stuffing, sauce...and enjoy! I'd highly recommend grabbing a sandwich from here and rambling around Grassmarket, an afternoon well spent in my opinion! read more

Orders: OINK Fee: £ 3.95 Waiting time: 30s Taste: I am really to expect this food, cuz it just looks like Chinese marinated meat in baked bun. However, it is not as good as I imagined. This is the first meal I ate in Edinburgh. Fat and lean meat is in a balance I like, just like the ROUJIAMO I ate in China except the sauce. PS: The price has rised, no more 2.60 pounds now. read more
NOM! NOM! NOM! First place we made a beeline for after landing in Edinburgh. The pork is delish and made even better with some haggis and chili relish. MAKE SURE you get a piece of the CRACKLIN' to top off the sandwich-- crunchy and porka'licious! No one talks about the roll but bad bread can ruin a good sandwich. The bread they use at Oink is the perfect juice soaking fluffy goodness a pig could meet. (hey, I wasn't talking about me!) BTW, seating is quite limited. I recommend finding somewhere to sit either inside or down the street before eating lest you might lose bits of glorious meat down your shirt and that would be a shame. read more
What I Ordered: The largest pulled pork sandwich Flavor: Pretty good. Not the best pulled pork I've had, but they have some unique BBQ sauces. Service: Standard. Order, pay and eat. Atmosphere: Hole in the wall. The most noticeable thing about the place is the half-carved pig in the window, which I actually found pretty cool and memorable. Price: Good for what you get. Oinktastic. This is some seriously fucking tasty pulled pork. The roasted pig in the front window is no gimmick - that's the actual porker they started roasting that morning - and when it's consumed that's it for the day. That's BBQ at it's purest! The portions are ample, but unless you're not very hungry I'd still recommend ordering at least the "Oink" size. The "Piglet", while adorable, really isn't enough meat for any self-respecting carnivore. I tried the brown roll, sage and onion stuffing and chili relish on my first try, and I have to say it was heaven. My next visit will probably involve haggis and some crackling, so I'll report back then. read more

I came here on a weekday night with a friend, and it was semi-packed. The shop isn't too big so there wasn't much seating, but it's a nice and cozy place. I got a classic white roll with apple sauce, which was recommended to me and I thought was weird upon ordering. But it was delicious! The apple sauce had a nice balance with the meat. There was so much meat in the sandwich though; I wish there were more sauce and more vegetables! The pork was pretty good and flavorful, although I think my sandwich was too big. Towards the end of eating it, I no longer wanted to eat it because there was too much meat! Good place to try out though. read more
There are a few addresses that I couldn't make it during my short trip to Edinburgh, but I'm glad Oink wasn't part of them. It may be true that I insisted to visit this place... Good for the budget (last day of the trip) and for the palate!! Craving for some now, not sure that I can get some as good as Oink's in Paris... read more

What a great idea. Get a huge roasted porker and sit him in the window for all to see, heid and all. Then serve up big shredded portions of him on a bun with a choice (or combination) of sage and onion, apple sauce or sweet chilli relish. Additionally you can get some crackling for an extra 50p or so. Brilliant. I'm deducting 1 star for the fact that you can't get a nice cold beer to wash it down. Otherwise no complaints from me! read more

Brilliant idea. Put a roasted pig in the window and feed him/her to the public. When the meat of this pig is gone, close the shop. All they sell is this pig all day. What a wonderful concept, so simple and soooooooooooooooooo delicious. The taste is more like American style pulled-pork BBQ, though without the smokiness or BBQ sauce. With this, you get sage and onion seasoning sprinkled on it, and perhaps some haggis or sweet apple sauce on top. I live in Germany now, and this would be the only place outside of Germany in Europe that would make me forsake a Bratwurst. Only caveat--- the bread was cheap, horrible hamburger buns straight out of the supermarket aisle. Yuck! They need decent bread, something as hearty and heavy to stand up to the pork. Some artisan, handmade bread would complement the handmade meat, instead of being a cheap-ass afterthought. I deducted 1 star for the horrible bread rolls. read more

Best pig we've had outside of the States! I do pig roasts all the time with family, so I consider myself a bit of a pork expert. As soon as I walked up to the place and saw that amazing pig in the window I knew I was in the right place! Just go, don't think, go now. read more

Ohhhh that roasted pig in the window looked so enticing. I had to... Got the hog in a box with apple sage stuffing and chili cheese sauce. It was delicious. The workers were also friendly although it is definitely a stop and go place, not somewhere one would hangout. I'm glad I didn't get the sandwich because the bread would've been too filling. Say yes to crackling! read more

Delicious!! I saw that Oink was a must eat in Edinburgh, but I thought it'd be another overrated place so I didn't have it in my plans. I walking along High Street and I ran into Oink, so I thought "I've heard of this place, let's give it a try." I wasn't really hungry at this time and I was glad to see that they had a Piglet (mini) size option. The staff suggested that I should just get the Oink (regular) for an extra pound, but I said no thanks. I got my order, and I was slightly disappointed to see how small my Piglet sandwich was. I took my first bite, and it was AMAZING. I wanted more. I highly recommend this place to anyone. It does't look too appetizing but it's so good. What can I say. If you love swine and are in Edinburgh it would be a crime to not go here. I ate it every day that I was there every time I have been there. It's that good. If I could figure out how to import it to NYC there would be a mile long lunch line to get it. The rolls are delicious. The pork is so tender it will blow your mind. The haggis spread is the perfect Scottish touch. Tip: Get the medium or large. Definitely get the haggis spread and the homemade BBQ sauce and don't forget to ask for some cracklings. After you are done, go right across the street to the Bow Bar and get a pint of local Scottish ale or glass of whisky. That, my friend, is a perfect day. read more

This is a great place for a delicious and quick sandwich pork sandwich. I ordered the 460g (large) pulled pork sandwich with brown bread, 'Homemade BBQ' sauce, and sage/onion stuffing. The pork was incredibly tender and the bread was super soft. In fact, I had to eat it still in the wrapper as it would have been impossible to pick it up otherwise. Delicious onion and sage stuffing (actually just a shmear). Tip - no inside seating was available as the place was SUPER busy when we arrived around lunch time. There is a decent amount of seating down the street at the square which, was only a short walk. So, grab a big pork sammich and don't forget a few napkins. read more
