The absolute only reason I am giving this 2 stars is that of the quality and presentation of the sushi. I've been there 2 different times so far; same cold, ignorant, blatantly rude hostess. No wonder both of those times you could hear a toothpick drop in that place. Zero people in there. I am guessing the good reviews are because of the food and very possibly they dined at a different time when this poor excuse for a customer service worker was there. They often say the third time is a charm, but the only way I step into this establishment again is if this nasty woman isn't there. Both times were around 11 and noon. We were greeted immediately upon entering. The space is decorated with lovely Asian art. There is an option for all you can eat sushi which I picked and got three rolls. All rolls were extremely tasty. Our sever was amazing and checked back with us many times and was very helpful and knowledgeable about the different rolls and types of sushi available. Went for dinner. They have an ayce option which was surprising and in line with the other places around. Weird things were they put cream cheese in my salmon skin hand roll. Overall it was a good experience. We went early Friday evening and beat the rush. The place is small. We were seated quickly and we all chose the AYCE. Service was good to start but as things got busier our server rarely showed up. I complete understand and do not hold that against her. Sushi was okay. They got an extra star for offering more inventive sushi rolls but what we were served was okay. The rolls were covered in various sauces which hid the flavor (or lack thereof). Sashimi pieces were not pleasing and we did not complete what we ordered. There are other AYCE sushi that we like better in the general area. It's a solid 3 for us but I don't anticipate going back. He fourth star is for the innovation of several of their offerings. If you are reading this, I suggest going to Pete's Fresh Market right down the street and try the Asian food in their food court. Best sushi around!! My boyfriend & I come in all the time for all you can eat sushi for lunch or dinner! Oishi never disappoints. It's $16.95 for all you can eat lunch & $19.99 all you can eat dinner. They have an excellent selection as well!! We always switch it up and get some specialty rolls, edamame, gyoza, miso soup, and sushi as part of the deal; however, there's a lot more on there. They also have a regular menu aside from all you can eat, dessert and drink (alcohol) menu as well. The service is outstanding, very friendly, and attentive. One warning- You're in for a LONG wait. Party of 2 went for AYCE lunch. Including my table there were 6 tables occupied. Of those 6, 3 were finishing up and no longer ordering as they left soon after I was seated. That left 3 tables ordering food. I submitted my first order page which wasn't large at all- couple appetizers, 4 rolls, and 8 sushi. The appetizers came out in about 5 minutes. The sushi order took 30 MINUTES to come out. Also note know there were 2 sushi guys behind the bar making sushi the entire time. I then submitted a 2nd order page of sushi thinking the first order was a fluke. NOPE. Again 30 minutes for an even smaller order- 2 rolls and 5 sushi. Are you kidding me? Also by that time another table had left leaving only my table and another table. Two tables total. It took 1 hour to get two small sushi orders. I wanted to order one more time but really didn't want to wait another 30 minutes. Maybe this is their strategy. Just take forever serving the food. Save money on food costs. Eventually the customer will leave out of frustration. I have never seen such incompetence and blatant attempt to cheat the customer. read more

I've been here a couple of times now. There's service is wonderful. I always go with the miso soup and any kind of veggie maki or sushi. I've also tried the sea weed salad, which I loved. I've never ate at the restaurant itself. Always called and picked up. There on time... always. There was once, where my miso soup didn't taste right. I called and they immediately apologized and told me it's all from a package, so it couldn't be that there's something wrong with the recipe and the expiration date was good. My favorite sushi place in all of Chicagoland. We've been here so many times the waitress knows to bring us extra ginger, spicy mayo, and two salads for one of my friends. We are typically not big fans of "all you can eat sushi". It seems conceptually akin to "two for the price of one amputations". However, because we are sushi swine, so sometimes the budget (and cravings) justify giving AYCES another try (BTW, if you haven't figured it out, that is my newly coined acronym for the first quoted text in this review...for the latter, TFTPOOA simply doesn't work!). We have been twice to Oishi for lunch and may have FINALLY found an AYCES stop that works! In case you don't "follow" my reviews, let me state up front that I (and my constant companion) are sushi snobs. We make disparaging remarks about people who consider eating rolls to be eating sushi. We ridicule those who have tried only warm sake and think that defines trying sake. So, we are asses. However, that should lend itself to all the more weight being added to this review. We are by our ass-y natures not people who would typically eat at, let alone even try, an all you can eat sushi restaurant. Yet we have tried Oishi. In fact, we have been back several times. Give Oishi a try! To start, you have to like the guy who greets you at the door. I presume that he is the owner but don't know that. He is always smiling, friendly, and happy to strike up a conversation. Some people are simply likeable. That's this guy. I want him to be my friend and I don't even know him! If a nice owner is not sufficient to recommend a sushi spot in your book, then go for the surprising quality of the fish. While Oishi is certainly not buying its fish from the same markets and sources as Naoki or Arami (our "1" and "1.5" ass-y favorites in Chicagoland), somehow they are doing something better than most of their peer restaurants. The flavor of everything that we have tried has been good and the temperature and cuts are correct. Rolls are for the most part "typical and expected" but they are well prepared and there are few that are not expected for 'this type' of establishment. While they obviously do not offer any sake that can even approach Naoki's "denshin rin", their sake cups area solid choice (how ass-y was that comment!). The service is fast and efficient and the price is very reasonable meaning that this is easily accessible as a lunch alternative in the area. Nice people running a nice restaurant that offers a great value, what more can you ask! read more

Horrible customer service. I went here for my birthday and love of Sushi. We were not greeted at the door or seated. Thus we had to request service after we sat ourselves. everyone that enter after us was greeted and seated, which raised concern since we were the only black customers there. A customer is a customer and all money spends the same. People need to stop with racist behavior, it is almost 2020. Tried this sushi restaurant because we heard it was new and highly rated. They were running an all-you-can eat special, so we decided to try it. What a complete disappointment. The service, while courteous, was incredibly slow, and the sushi, once served, was so tasteless we were concerned about its safety. The slices of fish were minuscule, and even the rolls had no flavor. We opted to pay our bill after the first round, and immediately left to go to our favorite sushi restaurant, Kyoto, in on Butterfield in Downers Grove. Like night and day. I WILL NEVER GO BACK TO THIS PLACE AGAIN!!! I placed a take out order over the phone and they told me 35 minutes. I was already in the area, so I decided to hangout in my car instead of wasting time and gas driving back and forth. After waiting the full 35 minutes, I enter the restaurant to pick up my food. After waiting behind 4 other guest for about 10 extra minutes, I paid for my food and was told I had to wait another 15 minutes. Although I was hungry and frustrated, I said okay and waited another 15 minutes in my car. Once coming in the second time, I was told it would be ANOTHER 15 minutes, and I was truly angered at this point. I used to work at a sushi restaurant and I know for a FACT that it does not take over an hour to roll two sushi rolls and pour two miso soups. At this point, I complained and asked what happened; I asked if my food was dropped or had to be remade, and the woman said yes. I couldn't believe the lack of communication and horrendous customer service. I am not one to get upset because I do understand that people make mistakes, but this was absurd! I refused to wait even longer for my food and asked for a full refund. The woman tried to say the food was about to be ready (despite her telling me 15 more minutes) and offered to give me free miso soup (despite the fact that I already paid for two soups with my order). She finally gave me a refund, but claimed she couldn't refund my tip. Funny right? There was a group of three waiting behind me to order food, but as they overheard my situation, they also walked out. I'm certain, with my order and theirs, they missed out on at least $80 because of their lack of customer service. Additionally, they have lost brand new customers (myself and my boyfriend) because of this. Do better next time Oishi! read more
