Recently got some new menu entrees that absolutely hit the spot! Margaretha is the owner and she is such a sweetie! She truly has a passion for everything that comes out of Oishii. Not to mention she always participates in the Lantern Festival, Sakura Festival, and the Country music festival! So be sure to check out her chicken satay, Bao buns, and corn on the cob when at those events! I got to try their blue raspberry Ramune which was a Japanese soda and I thought it was so fun! You have to push down the marble with the cap to open and I got so excited after doing this. We started off with the edamame and the pork miso ramen. Both were so tasty! The ramen hit the spot last night being that it's been so cold in Philly! So it definitely warmed us right up! We also got the dynamite roll and rock n roll! Both were so good and came out with a beautiful presentation. The dynamite roll had crab, cucumber, and avocado topped with chopped shrimp tempura, spicy mayo, and scallion. The rock n roll had shrimp tempura, snow crab, avocado and cucumber with a special sauce. We also got to try two items on their brand new menu and the pork Bao buns! We first had the chicken teriyaki don and the Yakisoba noodle shrimp! Both were so incredible. I can't say enough good things about those noodles too. One of my new favorite Japanese noodles in the city! The Bao buns were very yummy as well! I was pleasantly surprised by the Thai Green Iced Tea! I thought this drink was spectacular and so incredibly tasty! Such a great pick me up, I will definitely be craving one of these very soon! When we arrived, no one was here to greet us for a while and we just sat ourselves. It wasn't crowded at all. We popped in when it began to downpour on our way to Penn's Landing. What a nice little spot. It's small but quite nice inside. They had a few tables for inside dining and a killer to go business going on. All our rolls were super fresh. They had some more unusual menu items so that was fun too. I would definitely recommend this place and go back if ever in the area. The only not fun detail was the QR code menu. We should have asked for a paper one. Quite possibly the worst restaurant in Old City. Unfortunately had a bad experience here. The service was very bad and the food was below mediocre. My husband and I were seated before a table of three. We were ready to place our order, but the waiter bypassed us and took the other table's order first. This became a problem because the chef prepares food very inefficiently. Instead of preparing the same roll for multiple tables, the chef completes the orders one table at a time. This resulted in a wait time of 1 hour and 15 minutes before we got any of our food. It took our waiter 20 minutes to bring us water after we asked for it. We sat and watched the table of three as their edamame, salad, and L10 rolls came out and we had none of the 3 rolls we ordered. We were very underwhelmed with the food when we finally tasted it. It is on par with bad supermarket sushi. One of our rolls was mostly rice. See photo for reference. Where is the fish? A thin slice on top and a tiny bit of unagi in the middle. This roll was 85% rice. One piece didn't even have fish on or inside of it. Once we were ready to pay for the check, my husband went up and waited. The waiter was cleaning a table by throwing trash from one table into a plastic bag, but did not go up to help my husband until I stood up and he noticed I was obviously waiting for my husband. Oishii is a new ramen and sushi place located at the Old City neighborhood. They have a good variety of sushi and ramen to choose. I ordered 2 times already and so far we've tried the classic Tonkotsu Ramen, Chicken Miso Ramen, Green Curry Ramen, Spicy Tonkotsu Ramen, Volcano Roll, Las Vegas Roll, Tokyo Roll and Spicy Tuna Roll. The tonkotsu ramen has a good flavor, i'd say even better than most tonkotsu ramen i've ever tried in South Philly area so far. The soup is also not too thick, which I like very much, because I found some Tonkotsu ramen has a very thick soup since it is made out of pork broth and it could make you nauseous sometimes if you eat too much. My dad got the chicken miso and he loves it. He says it has a perfect balance of flavors. The Green Curry ramen as well as the Tonkotsu Ramen have a good spicy flavor. If you like spicy food, you'd want to try either one of them. Although, the Green Curry is more spicy than the Spicy Tonkotsu according to my husband who had it. Their Las Vegas Roll is to die for!! I personally doesn't like spicy food so I request the Las Vegas Roll without Jalapeno, which they very kindly and gladly made it for me, and it was awesome!! Their sushi overall is pretty good. They know how to make a good sushi! I don't have all the pictures of the food we've tried but what I have I posted it here. I'm so glad there's a good sushi and ramen place open up not too far from where I live. Oishii will be my go to place for sushi and ramen!! Somehow this place wasn't on our radar, but when we were craving sushi and wanted to give support to some other local businesses, I did a quick Yelp search and encountered Oishii. And I am glad that we did! We did delivery, so I would imagine it would be even better than what we got if things were "normal" (whatever that really means these days). They opened during covid a year ago and have survived through out! Owners are so so sweet and the sushi is amazing. The ramen is different than the other hotspots nearby which makes it special. No big deal, but if you want sushi, the only alternative is a big, expensive dinner plate worth of sushi ($45) which is a bit much for lunch. More objectionable was the water issue.
