Our go-to ramen spot (and overall MVP takeout) in the city. We always get the Tofu Miso and Tofu Shoyu (spicy), plus the eggplant bao. Nom Nom hits every single time - the tofu with the light coating, the bok choy and other veggies, and the delicious savory broth with the chewy and plentiful noodles is such a delicious and comforting hug-in-a-bowl. The eggplant bao are also soo tasty, with the eggplant fried just right, the crunchy veggies adding a little texture and the creamy sauce tying it all together. Came here on a cool Philly night and I really wanted to warm up and was craving ramen. I walked in as they were closing so I took it to go. Also, the owner advised me they only had one ramen left which was fine with me because that was all I wanted. I had the Karai spicy miso with fragrant black garlic oil. Ordered it with double pork. I came to Nom Nom at the suggestion of a friend, as I'd never been to a ramen restaurant before, and this experience totally made me a fan. First off, the place is a bit on the small side, with plenty of compact booths and tables to maximize on the space. It was a cold day out, and so the space felt cozy and intimate. The waiter was very quick and very efficient, and must have been working there for a long tome because he seemed to know a lot of the customers. He even knew my friend well enough to remind him of his favorites from the menu. Stopped in to grab ramen to go to have at the office today. The service was great, I had ramen in hand with everything needed to enjoy in in my office, in less than 10 minutes- and it was piping hot (sometimes an issue when you take to go) I ordered the tonkatsu ramen and added some cabbage and black garlic. The broth could use a bit more flavor- but you are able to choose different flavor profiles, so next time I may go with something more spicy to see if it adds that umami. I would love to be able to add a little more to the ramen- broccoli etc. but it's rare to find a spot that allows you to add many items. Some of the best ramen in philly - the broth is super duper flavourful. I got the tan tan ramen and they nailed it. As someone who avoids pork when they can, i really appreciate ramen places who do chicken chashu and do it well. I also added the aka bomb which just took it to another level. The place is also super intimate and great for solo dining as well as a date spot. My only complaint would be the price point, but you do get a huge bowl. I'm a fan of the Aka Nom Nom ramen here. It's a rich broth which nice fixings included and it's well balanced. I usually come here to dine in with my coworkers and we often don't have too much of an issue getting a table although if you're more than 4 people I'd suggest coming a little earlier since there's mostly 4 person tables and then some in the middle aisle of the restaurant. The service is relatively no frills, not very notable. Our wait time for food has varied greatly each time we are here, sometimes fast, sometimes 30+ minutes which made our lunch a bit more of a crunch than we'd prefer. read more

That being said, this restaurant is the exception to the rule. I had the pork belly buns and the aka Ramen. The flavors in both of these were amazing. You should definitely give this place a shot. Nom Nom is my go-to ramen place when I'm around the center city area. I raved about the Aka nom nom ramen to my family and they all ended up ordering the same thing! I wrote a review of Nom Nom Ramen a year ago, but I wanted to revise it to further emphasize my feelings on it. There are just simply so many reasons to love Nom Nom Ramen. The first is that I've always felt very taken care of whenever I go there. I always seem to be greeted and waited on by the same person - perhaps he is the owner but I can not say. Regardless, he is incredibly warm, welcoming, and extremely attentive. Second, whether I am eating there or taking-out, my order is always ready to go in no time. That is the same whether I order it on a Saturday afternoon (which I just did this weekend), a busy weekday afternoon, or a Friday dinner. There's never a long wait even when they have multiple orders going. I love how cozy it feels in there - there's just something about the color of the wood grain on the walls and tables that just give it a nice atmosphere. And finally, let's talk about the food! I have tried many dishes there - but my go-to will always be the Aka Nom Nom Ramen. You can not ask for a more perfect bowl. I don't know what it is about the pork they add to it but it's just divine. While red ginger is not part of it as-is, I highly recommend requesting they add it - it puts it completely over the top in my personal opinion. Small ramen store across Green Eggs/Harper's Garden. I was pretty surprised at the quality of the ramen, and I definitely would come back if I'm feeling for it. They have a very good selection of items on their menu. They also serve buns that are pretty decent. Look at the pictures and you can tell that the food looks delicious! I have been here numerous times for lunch and it has never been a disappointment. I've tried several types of their noodle soups with/without meat/pork/beef. Everything is delicious! Items we ordered: 1) Aka Nom Nom Ramen (Regular) - $14 as of 7/2019. Very rich and flavorful broth. I really liked the sesame flavor in this dish. However the broth can be heavy which can make it more difficult then expected to finish so keep that in mind. 2) Shio Pork Tonkotsu (Large) - $14.50 as of 7/2019 Broth had good flavor. Not over salted and noodles were cooked perfectly. The pork was definitely the best part of it. Extremely tender (to the point of it disintegrating if you're not careful!) and full of fatty pork goodness! I enjoyed this a lot. 3) Nom nom buns (2 pieces) - $8.50 as of 7/2019 The buns themselves were so fully and fresh I wish I could use them as pillows. The pork belly filling was the same that was in the ramen (ie: Awesome!). Because the buns and pork bellies are delicate, do be careful when handling them as they can fall apart on you. Great presentation of there Ramen, terrific service, and quite a few things to come back for besides the ramen. I took out an order of the aka ramen nom nom and the choice did not disappoint. My only criticism is I wish they had more soup options such as shrimp dumping and other noodle choices. I plan on completing a pilgramage to Chinatown to find the best overall noodle spot but if you are on the hunt for some good ramen this is a great area for a pop in and some of there other appetizer items I hear pack alot of flavor. The seating situation can get a bit weird with the placement of the bar seats at the windows, but I liked having some natural light since the restaurant itself is a tad narrow and long. I ordered the shoyu ramen with this decadent toro (pork) meat. As far as flavors go, I'd say this ramen falls a little low on the spectrum. I wouldn't call it bland but I've had better ramen in other parts of the city for the same price. I went with a friend for dinner on a Friday night. The place isn't too big for large parties, but can seat up to 4 people comfortably. It was quiet and clean. The noodles weren't anything special, but everything else in the bowl tasted amazing. The pork belly was flavorful and melt in your mouth. They also gave you both sides of the soft boiled egg, which my friend and I appreciated because we both love that part. A lot of ramen places in philly only give you one side, so I definitely rate this ramen higher on that principle. The broth was also very flavorful without being salty. Very smooth, I made sure to get every last drop. We also got an order of pork gyoza and Takoyaki. The gyoza were good, crispy and the pork was tender. The Takoyaki were also good. Decent portion of octopus inside, more than most places I've tried it at. Overall, I had a pleasant experience and would recommend. I tried the aka nom nom and the shio pork belly tonkotsu ramen. Both were good. The aka nom nom comes with 36 hour broth while the shio tonkotsu ramen comes with 30 hour brother. I prefer the aka nom nom because it comes with egg and chefs special aka bomb (chefs minced pork flavor booster). I would definitely come back again if I were in Philadelphia. read more
