We found an injured bird and they were so wonderful in taking the bird! Such a blessing and a relief to know they are nearby to help!

ORC is an amazing gift to our community. Founder Kim Stroud has dedicated decades of her time & expertise caring for injured wild birds. She has also guided me over the years as to what resources or facilities are best suited for other wild injured animals (usually after being hit by vehicles), or in the case when I though a crow was injured, was actually just a juvenile learning to fly. So the woman I spoke to on the phone was AMAZING!!!! I was nearly in tears with how amazing she was. We had an injured young Raven who would die without intervention, his wing was very broken and he was not doing well. We were able to catch him and placed him in a box and started calling around. We live in the high desert and the woman on the phone from this center told me that we live in a "dead zone" and this area does not have a lot of places to take injured birds. We agreed to drive three hours to this center because we thought it was an excellent place. We were beyond impressed with the woman on the phone and were very happy to find somewhere that could help him. When we got there the woman who took him from us was horrible. We got an earful about the bird's care. We had the bird in a small container that was covered with a towel for the car ride, when they told us to get the bird we took him in and we were told leave to towel outside. That same girl then started attacking us for not covering him for the walk inside. Okay? You just told us to not bring it in and now yell at us? She then proceeded to tell us he was most likely going to be euthanized and that we should have called them to get the bird. She then decided to start arguing with us when we told her what we were told on the phone. They weren't not going to drive three hours for this bird, we did it out of the kindness of our hearts and we were berated for this by this woman. She told us we should have left the bird and they would have gotten him which directly contradicted what we were told and as someone who does animal rescue (dogs) we know that they wouldn't be driving out here. Overall she was incredibly rude and decided to treat us like we wanted to keep him, we are well aware it is illegal to have them and we didn't want to keep him. We wanted him to get a chance to survive and if he doesn't make it, he doesn't make it but we knew with a broken wing he wouldn't be able to survive long even with his parents trying to care for him. We knew he needed expert care and we DROVE THREE HOURS FOR HIM TO GET IT! We really wish we would have waited because we did have an appointment with Malibu but we thought thanks to the amazing woman on the phone that this bird would be going somewhere nice. We no longer feel confident and we really regret taking him here. I hope that this woman sees this and is given a talk because she was really rude and treated us terribly even the though we just spent $100 on fuel trying to save this bird. Then when we asked to be updated and if he could possibly be released by them back to his family you would have thought we tried to murder the bird! She lost it and told us that we could email but they wouldn't be responding to us. We are never going here again and are really taken aback by the treatment we received. While we may not rescue birds typically we do have an idea of how to do rescues and again we did this out of the kindness of our hearts and we didn't want to see this guy dead if we could help him. Again really regret taking him here and we should have kept the appointment with Malibu. read more

We drove to the gate as directed by the Yelp map. The gate was locked. We called the number on the website and a recording told us what to do if we had an injured bird. There was only a keypad on the gate with no instructions for visitors. So we drove away VERY DISAPPOINTED. read more

We found an injured barn owl in our backyard (Castaic) and ORC accepted the owl. The person who helped us was kind and said said it's odds of survival were not good but they would X-ray to determine. If need be they would humanely euthanize because amputation is not an option in CA. read more

I found two baby possums that the crows were going after. I was referred to ORC. They rehab more than birds. They asked me how small the babies were and confirmed they were too little to be on their own. I met them outside their center and they happily took them. Once they are big enough they will be released. read more

Had a great time seeing these beautiful birds up close & learning about them. The center is not always open to the public but it was our lucky day that we just had been visiting Ojai for the first time & got to tour the center. All of the volunteers were great & thank you for providing the Free shuttle service. I recommend this place, entrance is donation based so please come prepared to give a cash donation it was worth it! read more

Such an amazing place! They do a great job rehabilitating Birds, amazing workers and Kim the owner is an brilliant person!

What an awesome organization! I discovered the raptor center a few years ago when I read about them in an LA Times article. I rescued some baby owls fallen from a nest and they sent someone to get them and could not have been nicer or more compassionate and helpful. They have a bi-annual open house that I can't recommend highly enough. It's simply fantastic, and is an awesome family event. They had demonstrations and activities for kids, they had a lot of their permanent birds (too injured or imprinted on by humans to release) out with handlers so you can see them all from inches away. They had displays of feathers and explained differences between the birds. It's extremely educational and a lot of fun. It's incredible to see these magnificent creatures up close and personal, and not in a cage. It's a rare opportunity for most people. The location is really beautiful and the grounds are clean and the animals very well kept and medically treated when necessary. Their ultimate goal is to release every animal that they can, but they do keep or place every bird that cannot be released. They do education seminars at schools and other places and they also rescue all sorts of random other wildlife when necessary (foxes, possums, raccoons, bobcats, etc.). The people who work there are very friendly, helpful, knowledgable and informative. I'm pretty sure all or at least most of their funding comes from private donations so community support is huge for them. I went to the fall open house and spent much more time there than I planned. The volunteers were knowledgeable and engaging and the birds, magnificent. I would go again. If you can't go, at least send them some money. They are doing great work helping the birds and educating the community. read more
