I had the pleasure of visiting Taft Nature Gardens on a weekday Spring afternoon. The drive through Ojai was pleasurable, but I was lucky to not get lost on the road from the highway to the garden. Parked in the lot south of the garden entrance- there is a clean bathroom at the west end of it. The best part of the garden is the south end, as the Australian, meadow, and South African areas are exquisite. I already pre-paid my ticket, but there was not any staff around aside from maintenance workers. The garden itself was beautiful and peaceful, especially since there were no other visitors at the time. The north end had a Japanese section, which was nice, but not so carefully cultivated as the southern part. There were many warnings about snakes on the property, but I did not see any. On the whole this was a worthwhile visit to a unique place.

    Curated gardens.

My family and I took a day trip to Taft Gardens and we were not disappointed. The customer service was exceptional. had made several errors were ordering my tickets and Alexandra helped me correct the issues over email before I arrived. When we got there, she gave us a detailed explanation of the map and shared background information of the grounds. The grounds themselves are extraordinarily beautiful. It's truly a magical place. The owner, Jon, gave us a ride up to a lookout point in his golf cart. He was very friendly and knowledgeable. I am SO happy with my experience at Taft Gardens and it is definitely a place I will continue to visit and support.

If you like gardens, do not miss this hidden gem outside Ojai. It is very tricky to get to, and you must reserve in advance and follow the instructions that they send you after you register on their website. And it is worth it. Specialties are native plants of South Africa and Australia. Bring your own water and snacks, sunscreen, hat, etc. Enjoy the hummingbirds that are drawn to the flowers.

Magical, peaceful, and a perfect getaway for creative inspiration. Stay at the Taft Gardens Cottage -- peace of heaven.

The Grounds (Grass, Plants, and Oak Trees) were very nice. The grass was starting to die/ turn brown in the amphitheater. There were tons of bees in the trees so just keep an eye out and have an epi pin. The customer service was terrible Paula Starr (Property Manager) took 3 weeks to write up our contract. We had money for a deposit we were ready to go. Her response was "I wasn't sure you were interested." Paula lied to us a number of times. We even have it in writing! Her telephone skills are worse than a child. She hung up on my bride and me different times. She does not return email in timely fashion. She does not like being put on the spot. She does not like Law Enforcement. She hired private security for a our wedding to watch us. The poor security guards were so bored. He got great food though. End the end Paula Starr is rude, a nasty person. I would rather deal with criminals than her.

I had visited Taft Gardens a couple years ago but then went recently and I'm so glad I did. I felt like I was in a wonderland of gorgeous blooming Aloe. My visit was early March when it was still winter but everything about the gardens was magical. The entire grounds are so amazingly maintained and to my delight I was the only visitor the afternoon that I went allowing me to just wander as I pleased. I know I will return again soon.

Lovely gardens. Know that you MUST make a reservation. We didn't know that, but were able to get in right away by calling.

En route to the gardens. Gate on private road. Not visible from Hwy-150

Loved the grounds. Attended for a well deserved, badly needed, past due retreat. Cool morning comfy with layers. Grounds can be found by signage on private road. I did not see WHEEL CHAIR ACCESS any where.

This amazing garden really flies under the radar. A little hard to find, but worth the effort. Book tickets in advance.

So beautiful and inspirational ! You take step in one…read moredirection and then a different direction and are delighted by a separate landscape. Charming and very intimate. Everyone is so friendly and helpful.

We stopped by for my bday last year and it was such a charming experience. It's one I recommend…read moreduring these gorgeous spring months for plant lovers and nature seekers. Despite growing up around here, I somehow never stumbled through these grand entrance gates until recently. This gem of a garden isn't just my butt's savior now on long drives up from LA, but it's a sliver of paradise found--and sanity regained. Just walking around here for 15-20 mins. and you'll feel your blood pressure drop a few notches to a pleasant state of calm. You can explore the themed areas, take in the vegetation around you, and get landscaping tips just from strolling around their property. The plant things are grouped in various climate/hemispheres and it's nice to see them taking root and being incorporated in a seamless design (and it's nice shopping experience too). I was impressed with the selection and bought a few small air plants and succulents that are still thriving with offshoots. Prices are reasonable. For pros looking for inspo, I think this place that can offer Interior Designers & Landscapers creativity with plants. Or even the DIY Weekend Warrior looking to revamp their current landscaping or add a little something new to it. They have a wide variety of exotics, California natives to indigenous to Australia, and every other tree, shrub, and greenery in between. Since it's the year of the (hobby) horse, I'll be sure to get my butt up here more often in 2026.
