Stopped in for a drink after a 2.5 hour drive from the Bay Area. The bartender was nice and so were the locals seated next to us. We had some good conversation and this was the perfect place to decompress. I am not a beer drinker so I asked for a cider in a bottle, no can do. The bartender offered me a Smirnoff but blueberry isn't a flavor I like to drink with my alcohol. She also had a grape alcoholic beverage. No thank you. I try not to drink the hard stuff so I asked for a bottle of champagne with a splash of cran. There was 1 bottle in the bar and I got it. The splash of cran came from a bottle also, so fine. We would have stayed for another drink had there been a bottle of cider or another bottle of champagne. Hopefully the next time we drop by they are better stocked. read more

I came up to Pioneer the weekend after July 4 with a group of 7 old friends from years past. We had the best time thanks to the great crew at the O.K. Corral. Thank you, Jules, Kelley, Kaitlin, and Eric. I've been coming up to Pioneer now for nearly 45 years. In all my years of coming to the O.K. Corral, this is the best crew I've met. Just about the nicest bartenders and owner you could meet...down to earth, good people, no nonsense. We ended up dropping in three nights in a row. They have a well stocked bar, a nice outside deck, a great jukebox, a good pool table, and a good stock of liars dice. Our second night we had their prime rib dinner on Prime Rib Day. It was fantastic... great flavor, large cut, and it came with tasty sides. The O.K. Corral is a great spot to go with friends and to make new ones. And they make an awesome Key Lime cocktail and a mean Royal Pussy. We look forward to being back! read more

NOT OK!!!! We had been here about two years ago and had a french dip that was terrific. Thought we would try it again. BIG MISTAKE. Different owners and nobody at the tables just the bar. Should have been a warning. We wanted a bottle of wine and we were informed by the waitress who also is the bartender that nobody had ever ordered a bottle of wine. Should have really been a sign to leave. We ordered two french dips as I was almost going to order the ribs which are a special on Thursday nights. It took at least 30 minutes for the food to come. My wife took one bite and almost vomited. I struggled through my sandwich but I was really hungry. We will never go back and urge anyone that is a yelper to stay away. read more

For what they offer and their "upcountry location" they are an amazing value and very affordable for all things considered. We live minutes from the OK Corral in Pioneer. We seriously forget about heading up the hill to eat and usually find ourselves driving 20 mins down the hill. We had worked all day on our house and were starving and tired. My husband asked if he could take me out on a date to OK Corral. When we arrived people were in the bar and the restaurant seating area. It was around 8:45 pm and they were still serving dinner. We were so happy. We ordered the zucchini appetizer that was made with a beer batter and served with ranch dressing. I had to take all the crust off as I'm gluten intolerant. The zucchini was fresh and cooked perfectly. We both ordered salads with our dinners. The salads were a perfect size, fresh, with a variety of greens and veggies. For dinner we ordered the smoked chicken and the smoked ribs. Our meals came with baked potato and the fixings, green beans and warm bread. The meat was cooked perfectly, it was tender, with a deep smoky flavor. The potatoes were cleaned well, hot, cooked perfectly, and big. The green beans were fresh or frozen and cooked till tender they were to good to be canned. Now, we sat there eating and filling up and both looked at each other with that crazy look on our faces asking, "Why don't we come here more?" The prices are outstanding for the quality of food. Our meals were $12-$14 including salad. In addition, our waitress was so sweet and really a hard worker. I could tell she was so happy to have our table to wait on. I know up country businesses struggle because they aren't in the large population areas. Still it was nice to walk into a restaurant late and have staff more than happy to serve us. What I find in most places I walk into late everyone looks at me like "Great, another customer so I guess we won't get out of here early". Well, this place was happy to see us! In addition, I ordered a bloody marry for dinner. OK Corral makes their own mix. As a result of their extra efforts my drink was perfectly spiced with a rich tomato flavor. They didn't have Absolute Citron but they did have a well vodka that was very smooth. My only complaint about our meal was they were out of the clam chowder when we arrived. However, it was late, around 9 pm and that is normal for most busy restaurants. After our meal was finished the owner sat with us and hung out. We ended up moving from our dinner table to the bar. Our planned one hour dinner ended up going until midnight. So, our lights, stereo, and pets were roaming our home when our daughter got home. We are never out late so she called ER, CHP, and everyone looking for us. When we called home at midnight for a designated driver she was so irritated with us for not leaving a note. Well, we had no idea we were going to connect with the owner and make a night of it. Guess what I learned from the owner? Well, he has many businesses but OK Corral is his baby. He loves the place and he really wants to make it a pit stop for locals and all the vacationers that pass through. He said when he left it to his staff in the summer because he was working at another one of his businesses he felt that things suffered a bit. So, he plans on being at OK Corral full time and working in the kitchen with his personal recipes. With that in mind, if you did go to OK Corral this summer and like the 1-star reviewer had a bad experience I would go again and tell the owner. I know he would make it right and it's probably because he wasn't there. He really cares about people having a good quality meal, he will work around allergies, he will make you a vegan meal, he will personalize your meal for your health and diet. Please know that it is really important for Up County, Pioneer area to have OK Corral, a quality restaurant and full bar that is affordable and serves food late. Our pizza parlors don't have a full bar and don't have the selection of dinners that are gluten-free like OK Corral (plus our wheat allergies have stopped us from going to pizza parlors). UPDATE: I updated my review to reflect our experience over time. This is definitely not a five star business but the owner tries so hard. It can be hit or miss but he has reopened after closing when we've shown up. They can run out of things but they always do their best to accommodate us. We may have had some under smoked meat once but the owner addressed it, apologized, and gave us a credit and another meal for free. Hopefully they continue to improve and be an awesome pit stop up the mountain. read more

But Sarah T. got my attention with her review, where did you get your facts, do you know if he follows the guidelines for testing the water, I know, and he does, have you seen any test results, do have a clue who tests his water, I have seen the results and I know who does the testing. FYI the water at the OK Corral is not and never has been contaminated or poisonous. The owner of the OK is definitely not a disgusting criminal restaurant owner and would never put his customers in danger of making them sick and/or kill them. We stumbled upon this place as we were walking on highway 88, as we walked across America. What a pleasant surprise! The owner, Bud, was the nicest guy. We struck up a conversation, and decided to stay for dinner, and then stay for the night! As soon as we walked in we could tell this place was cool. The Blues Brother's statues greeted us as we walked in, and an eclectic art collection kept our eyes busy. Bud cooked us up his specials, while Terrie, the Bartender made us feel comfortable and kept our glasses filled. The food was great, the atmosphere friendly and inviting. They have live music on Saturdays, and they hire great bands! They have some rooms for rent, which are Wyatt Earp themed! We stayed in "Belle," and were very content and comfortable. The beds were warm and the showers had good pressure. We slept comfortably and the low key environment made us relaxed and comfortable. It was just what we needed as we made our way up the Sierra Nevada's on foot, during our Great American Walkabout! read more

The food was awesome (club sandwich and terriyaki chicken sandwich)! It is a fun atmosphere and I can only imagine it really comes alive at night. They have live music on the weekends. Only had a burger and onion rings, but they actually asked how I wanted the burger and it was cooked medium rare the way I wanted it. My wife got tea, and cook said to the waitress to heat the water fresh rather than get in from the tap on the coffee machine. The food was good, and I got the impression that they cared about quality. Not much but burgers and fish and chips available at lunch. Smoked chicken and ribs are in the evenings. I wish I had written a review about this place sooner, but couldn't remember the city this place was in and just typing in "ok corral" brought up quite a few different places. A couple friends and I were headed back home from a camping trip Labor Day weekend when we stopped by here to use the restroom. Looking at the menu the prices seemed pretty good and the food looked even better so we decided to eat here. If memory serves correctly I had order a burger and fried zucchini and mushrooms along with regular and sweet potato fries, my only regret is that I shared this deliciousness with my friends and didn't have it all to myself! The zucchini and mushrooms were beer battered and oh so good. The fries were fries, pretty hard to get them wrong. But that burger! Oh that burger was amazing I think there must have been some unicorn in that burger because that thing was magical. Easily one of the top 5 burgers I've ever had. The steak the had also looked very appetizing, I can't decide whether or not I will get that next time, because I will be back! It's only a matter of time. Do take this review with a grain of salt as I did eat here after a camping trip and everything tastes pretty amazing after eating nothing but freeze dried goods and trail mix. read more

I stayed here on Sunday night before going snowboarding at Kirkwood the next day. Reservations were made by phone with no credit card hold, just a promise that we'd call if we didn't decide to stay there. When we arrived, pretty late, the owner was waiting in the restaurant for us. He poured us a few beers and made us dinner (fried chicken, the nights special, it was good) even though the kitchen had been closed for hours. Great Service all around. The room was basic and clean, the beds had newer Target quality bedding, comfy beds, a funky TV that took a while to figure out. The heater worked. When I woke up 30 mins from the hill it was clear that this place is definitely a find. Would I bring someone here to impress them? no. Would I go again? Absolutely. read more

Great food, amazing service, amazing band and just like going to stay the night at Grandma's. We went to see our neighbor play in a band playing last weekend and decided to make reservations to stay the night as well. We arrived for dinner and really enjoyed it. The service was so good, it was like being treated like royalty. Of course Pinkie's band is always good. The motel room was very clean and comfortable and felt like staying the night at Granny's house. For a relaxing anniversary weekend, it was perfect for us. Thanks for a great time!!! read more

This morning while on our way to Kirkwood, my boyfriend and I were stopped by an avalanche. We did not want to go all the way home so we stopped in seeing a sign reading "$69 rooms!" .... We got a good sized room with a refrigerator and microwave, bathroom and cable, right next to the restaurant and bar. We shared a huge New York steak, baked potato, asparagus and clam chowder all for $14.99. The food was great and so was every one in the place. We will definitely come back here. read more

So we drove from Virginia city back home to Pismo and had about 5 hours left but we were SO HUNGRY!!!! It was getting late, no where to stop....we pulled in to OK corral at around 8pm and saw a guy taking the trash out....we asked if he had food there and he said come on in and I'll feed you guys, even though he was on his way to lock up for the night!! We went in ordered burgers and fries and played pool with a hilarious parrot watching me telling me i was a bad shot!! Haha. So the cook was a very sweet girl who brought out our food and even came back to check and make sure the food was ok. It was DELICIOUS and the french fries were BOMB! The owner (didn't catch his name) was really friendly and down to earth and had told us that he could tell on our faces how hungry we were and wanted to help us out!! I stayed their in the winter to ski at Kirkwood. The owner bar tended that night. He led us in the room, turned on the heater, and showed around. The place is very basic. Not enough towels, and no shampoo or soup, which actually I didn't get bothered too much. The problem is that the heater didn't work, the room never warmed up. There is nobody to reach to at night. We had to survive an unbearable cold night. Afterward, it was very difficult to reach to the owner. When I called, a lady answered the phone, said it was impossible that they just had the heater worked. Ironically, that seemed confirmed that they had issues with the heater instead. When I finally got hold of the owner, his attitude was very hostile, and refuse to refund the cost. I am all for supporting small and local business, and tried the best to be reasonable. But this is very disappointing that all the facts were very clear, and the owner didn't even apologize for the miserable night we had gone through. I will definitely suggest you avoid this dishonest business. read more

Don't miss dinner at the Ok Corral in Pioneer, California. The food is spectacular and prepared by an apprenticed chef. This is a bar with locals who all agree this is the best place to eat in the area, and may be one of the best places to eat in California at a tremendous value and reasonable cost. The Ok Corral also offers a few rooms, so stay the night, but once you taste the food, you may want to stay the month. The chef and fellow locals were very welcoming and friendly, but the food, the food, the food, the food. very delicious. I am local to the Amador/Calaveras area and thought my family should try the OK Corral Restaurant on our way home from Bear Reservoir. Worst meal of our lives. We ordered cheeseburgers and one rib dinner. First we gave our drink orders, waited over 20 minutes, and then my husband asked about them. Finally they arrived. Dinners arrived. No set ups. I asked for a knife and fork. Got them, but nobody else did. We all shared the knife and shared the salt and pepper with the other table. The roll served with the ribs had green mold on one complete side and part of the other. The ribs were not edible. One bite was eaten, the meat tasted old, and it was disgusting. The cheeseburgers left an aftertaste in our mouths that lasted throughout the night. I work with the public and often am asked to recommend restaurants. This one is not even on the list. It could be good, but looked like only the bartender/waitress/hostess cared, and she was so overwhelmed with the work that we all had compassion for her. I went to the restroom which reeked of cigarette smoke, and was over the top in my feelings of disgust. The health department should be involved. read more
