High quality and innovative cocktails, reasonable prices, and a chic/classy ambiance make Ward Eight must-visit! I tried two cocktails when I was at Ward 8: Remember the Main and Vieux Carre. Both were decadent, delicious, and boozy. Triple threats! I loved them both, but the "Remember the Main" was different from drinks I've had before, so that was my favorite. My husband had a local beer. They have beer, wine, and NA options for folks who aren't into cocktails. They also have food which looks scrumptious, ranging from high-end appetizers to full meals. We did not come prepared to eat, so we'll have to come back again to try food in the future! The staff were welcoming and professional. The space was clean and Gatsby-style chic. There is plenty of seating and an outdoor space for when it is warmer. It is a fancier places, so prices are higher. But you pay for the higher quality ingredients and innovative recipes. If you enjoy cocktails and cozy cocktail bars, Ward Eight is definitely the spot for you!

I got the feeling that the staff were putting some effort into their craft. The place was crowded & there was even a live band performing. The prices are also high compared to other places. My husband ordered a slice of their blueberry almond loaf and it cost $7!

And it's about right- it gives 'fancy restaurant in a fancy hotel' for sure. It was dead on a Thursday, and luckily our waiter was very kind and attentive. I've read issues with staffing, but we were lucky in our staff were very nice and accommodating. I could definitely see how easy it would be to get slow service though. The food was overall decent! Again, 'fancy hotel' vibes- not the best you'd have, but definitely far from the worst. The fish was absolutely excellent, and the steak was cooked very well! I would say their soup or the day had needed more seasoning, and the portions were smaller for the prices. We didn't get drinks, which probably saved us from a heftier bill. Overall it's a decent enough spot to feel a little fancy in Evanston, but if you're looking to cut costs, I'd just split an appetizer.

She suggested Hyatt House since the location is convenient for both of us. Upon arriving, my friend had the valet meet me at the entrance and sashayed into the hotel like she owns the place! We situated ourselves in the bar area and the front desk attendant, Olivia, promptly walked behind the bar to take our orders since there was no bartender on duty at the time. One brownie point for Olivia. Although my choice of poison is simple to make, it is unusual. Olivia admitted she doesn't know how to make it, but with the recipe I gave her, it was perfectly done. Two brownie points for Olivia. The hotel lobby was nice and quiet on a Saturday night with guests returning from their venture sporadically. I was able to catch up with my friend, shared many laughs, and gained a lot of insights with no-nonsense advice from her. Oliva quietly checked up on me and my dear friend every so often. She was never intrusive. 2 more brownie points for Olivia! To be honest, the idea of meeting for a drink and discussing at the hotel bar never crossed my mind. The bar/lounge area was spacious and clean. I enjoyed the experience tremendously. I'd highly recommend a casual meeting and a drink at the hotel bar than a typical bar where the noise level can be clamorous. Located in the heart of Evanston, there are plenty of shops and eateries within walking distance. In addition to valet parking, many available (pay) street parking along Chicago Avenue in front of the hotel are available. Of course, Northwestern University is also within walking distance.

We ordered the shrimp tacos, truffle parmesan fries, and the vodka pasta. The shrimp tacos were definitely the star for me -- super flavorful, fresh, and had a nice little kick without being too much. The truffle fries were also really good and easy to share, especially with the extra aioli on the side. The vodka pasta was creamy, comforting, and just one of those solid dishes if you want something filling and reliable. Everything came out looking really nice, portions were decent, and the whole meal felt like a cute little dinner moment. The ambiance definitely adds to the experience here too -- it's one of those places people come to for the vibe, but the food still holds up. Overall, I'd come back especially for the tacos and fries. Cute trendy spot for dinner if you want good food and a fun atmosphere.

I'm going to first say that I think they might have something wrong with their back of the house. I say this because yes the service was not great. The waiter seemed to really not be trained properly as far as when to stop by the table and what to ask and prolonged our supposedly quick lunch by way too long because he was so distracted by other things. But the back of the house thing, there were four of us. We ordered five things and only one of the dishes was normal. The Burger. Quite good. Everything else felt soggy and undercooked. I don't know why this is. But one of the things we got was a pizza and the pizza was so wet and soggy that we couldn't even pick up the slices. Didn't eat any of it, just sent it back and the funny part is is 10 feet away from us there was literally another table with a similar pizza that they did the exact same thing but they didn't send it back. Theirs was just left on the table uneaten as they walked out. The menu isn't interesting enough to make us ever want to go back and to top it off there's a 18% service charge put on there that is the tip for the server but doesn't say gratuity and we asked about that and it turns out it's the gratuity that's already included in every bill. This place is a mess. Maybe this isn't represent other locations but this location is a dumpster fire.

The Cosmo martini to start was DEElicious! We were seated at a long table, but there were just 2 of us. Service was efficient and friendly, a little slow. We got food before drinks, but it was fine. Despite the name, there were a couple of instruments hanging up as decorations, like a trumpet and trombone. The bacon wrapped shrimp was good, but usually EACH shrimp has bacon on it, but this was a skewer with bacon wrapped around it. The potatoes on the side were good though. The music was nice and mellow, and the bathrooms were clean and clever, with pictures of French scenes. We saw the owner, but he did not play this time. The 'tip jar' for musicians in the middle of the room, suspended from the ceiling, was cleverly done. We shared a dessert of melt in the mouth chocolate mousse cake or something; it was awesome, very worth it, but the bar bill was quite high. With admission and drinks, I'd go AFTER dinner or a big lunch, and stick with wine if I'm on a budget.
