Oklahoma Visual Arts Coalition (OVAC) hosted their second annual fundraiser event in 2016. What's OVAC you ask? Great question! They are an arts council of sorts which is a non-profit organization that raises funds to promote the arts and artists in Oklahoma. They also provide a network of support for artists and art lovers alike. They bring art to the forefront of the conversation because they recognize the important role the arts play in our community. TO SEE: Their annual fundraising event is dubbed "12x12" and has been hosted the past two years at the Science Museum Oklahoma. The idea is for local artists to create artwork that is 12 inches by 12 inches in size. At the event, all pieces are showcased; there's a silent auction (bids start at $175) and all proceeds benefit OVAC. Also, there's LOTS of folks that come out supporting OVAC and local artists. It's an event to see and be seen! TO TASTE & SMELL: Though our local artists are the real stars at this event, our local chefs had quite a good showing, too! Local restaurants bring some of their best appetizer samples to share with the crowd. Some of my favorites from the evening were creations from Café 7, The Metro Wine Bar & Bistro, Picasso Café, Pizzeria Gusto, Prairie Gypsies, Vast, and VZD's Restaurant & Bar. TO HEAR: There's local muscians playing at this event throughout the evening. They did a great job helping to create a lovely atmosphere. A CELEBRATION! This event represents some of the best of what our community has to offer: celebrating creativity, the arts, and each other's talents. What a fun way to spend an evening! I am looking forward to seeing all the great programs, projects, grants and art-centric conversations that OVAC is able to share with our community as a result of this event. Walking in; I was greeted by friendly ambassadors of the Coalition who assisted me with determining if I was a spectator, sponsor, artist, or if I was lost. After a friendly concession I was on my way. I attempted to get a drink , but I was just starving so I made my way to the food. They had live music, and some interesting acrobatic/aerobatic performers. The music alternated a few times, and each musician had their own style of music. It was a great event. There was a ton of food there from restaurants I was familiar with, and some I've never heard of. It was all great, and I was surprised at the quality of the food considering it was catered in.

OKC turned out in masses to welcome her to the Zoo for the first concert of the season. I had tickets in the reserved section. They were easy to find and the ushers and security were very friendly and helpful in helping us. The best part was the amount of space we had. We did not feel cramped at all. They had a lot of beverage and food options. Although I seemed to always pick the slowest line, it is just my super power I guess. Ella Langley was absolutely amazing. The sound was spot on. The stories and testimony behind some of her songs really hit home with me, especially during this particular time in my life. Just know if you sit in the lawn area, you cannot bring lawn chairs. You can rent theirs for a price but I don't know what that is. You cannot bring bags past a certain size and they will e-mail you the specs prior to your concert. See through bags seemed to be preferred although we didn't have any bags. All in all, it was a memorable night! I highly recommend seeing a concert at the Zoo if you get a chance, you won't regret it.

There were several bathrooms located around so I didn't have to wait long to go. They had a few food vendors inside but I am under the impression they change for each show. At times when the performer had the audience captivated in a story you could hear frogs or something surrounding the area and it was pretty magical. 10/10! Neat place! (Please be careful when leaving. Concert go-ers running into middle of street & no police assistance to help traffic flow!) The seating here is different. There's a pit close to stage (standing only), several rows of actual seats and then GA is blanket (BYO) on a hill!
