Instead, it's an eclectic bar feel broken into several themed areas...think disco room, pool hall, cozy lounge seating, plus a stage for live music and dancing. The crowd was a fun mix, from early 20s to more seasoned patrons. I can definitely see it being a great place to explore with a group, bouncing from one themed space to another. I'm curious to come back on jazz night to see whether it leans more speakeasy than bar. One of the bartenders even shared a bit of the building's backstory: it was originally a house in McAlester, OK, transported all the way to OKC. Beware! My card was charged for someone else's purchase, and I ended up having to pay $60 for a single beverage, not even super premium! To make matters worse, I have both my signed purchase slip and itemized receipt in my possession. However, management didn't even bother to respond to my concern. It was an extremely memorable experience due to our friend with M.S. having a flare-up that completely changed the trajectory of our night. Naturally, I was quite coherent and spent a great deal of time tending to my friend. Only 2 of us even had a single drink, and we each have our purchase slips for our $12.48 beverages. Well, mine was $22.48 when you add in the tip. Honestly, I feel completely taken advantage of, considering that I tipped a generous $10 on the one drink item I had. Total slap in the face. I left the night with a relieved smile, not ever expecting that I'd be going through this later. As a former bartender and server of 18+ years, I do not take customer service lightly at all. I can definitely understand that transaction mistakes can happen--we're only human, but at least have the decency to own up to your mistake and make it right. Everything about 51st is pretty cool. The bands, bartenders, ambiance, all great. However, the owner ruined my experience and I won't go back. The third floor is apparently smoke friendly, with ashtrays all over and folks smoking cigarettes. When I saw this, I asked all the patrons in the area if they minded me lighting a joint. Ubiquitously, they didn't mind. About 10 minutes late the owner comes up to say we can't smoke that. We apologize and immediately put it out. He proceeds to come back and berate us about why we would come into "his house" and do this, calling us uncool, etc. being incredibly rude, standing over us and reprimanded nonstop. We explained that we simply didn't know it wasn't allowed since the other patrons were smoking cigarettes and there were ashtrays everywhere. I told him I ran it by others but we were sorry and didn't realize. I suggested that maybe a sign distinguishing this would be a good idea but he told me I shouldn't need a sign, I should just know to be a cooler person. He would not leave our area or stop lecturing us. I don't mind the rule AT ALL but I do mind being treating like a child and talked down to over and over regardless of being sincerely apologetic and immediately compliant. Met my bestie here for drinks. The parking lot and entrance are in the back but we were there super early so we had good parking. The vibe inside was nice. It's a converted house it seems and there's multiple levels and nooks and crannies. There's also a multi level patio. We were greeted promptly and the bartender recommended a vodka based drink. We ordered and I ordered food and we went outside to eat. The food came promptly. The zucchini fries were great but I asked for the wings to be dry and they had no seasoning. They were cooked good but the flavor must have been in the sauce. We stayed on the patio all night and people watched and it was nice. The place was packed when we left. The only bad thing is there's no entrance sign/directions on the front of the building so we spent the entire night telling people the entrance was in the back when they tried to open the front door. read more

Every band I've seen play here has been phenomenal. They have every drink you can imagine- from domestic to local craft beers, mixed drinks, all the way up to special bourbons, like Blantons. My husband and I attended the Terre Rouge Burlesque Valentines Day show. The show was fun to watch. The performers did such a great job. The staff were cleanly dressed in 40-50 style costumes. I loved it! This is a huge building with lots of rooms that you can get lost in after a couple of drinks! I was disappointed there is only one bathroom downstairs. Up set of very steep stairs are 4 other bathrooms and more rooms to navigate through. The parking lot is very cramped on a busy night but Hey we didn't have to park down the street. We had a couple of drinks and we had the hummus and my Husband ordered the quesadilla, but his order got lost.... and so did our server. (Probaly got lost in the maze of rooms) He went to acquire from the hostesses about his food and was told they couldn't help him with that. What? So he had to ask if they could point him in the right direction, afterall, as I mentioned, our server was MIA! Eventually he was told his order must have "fallen out", whatever that means. By this time the show was in intermission and he was also ready for a fresh drink. (We placed are orders right when the show started!) But we are patient people and it was a busy night. His food eventually arrived after the second half of the show started and his drink was refreshed. My low score is related to the service and the stairway to heaven to use the restroom! I really wanted to like this place. The environment was neat. It was a little dark but had awesome live music and cool decor. But the service was bad. The bartender never once asked if we needed anything and I had to go out of my way to get his attention. There was one bartender who just keep hitting his vape pen behind the bar. 3 out 4 items on the menu we tried to order they did not have and there menu was already very limited. I gave this place another shot after a few friends told me they had closed and changes had been made since my last visit. I'm glad to say that those changes were all good ones. They still have 3 or 4 bars, the decor is still keep up the Speakeasy/Prohibition feeling. The atmosphere is great. It's also a lot less smokey than it used to be which was refreshing. I was just thankful for a place to watch the game, after being turned away at the inn somewhere else. But as the evening went on, things started to unravel. The sound for the game was wonky. They were playing really loud music leading up to the game (it's a bar, that's great) but they hadn't really made sure the audio for the game would work well. I'm a bit of a stickler for the pre-game, and I hated to miss all of it. They got it up and running but a buzzing sound dominated the announcers all night. The food is some of the better pub grub out there. We split the fish and chips during the first half - catfish that is. We enjoyed the fish, which had a light batter, but the fries were really greasy and heavily battered compared to the fish, which was odd. Later in the night we split the nachos, which were very good. Maybe it's the ancient wood floors or the smoke patina, but this bar always seems really dirty to me so eating there kind of freaks me out. Plus, every time I have been there it is so incredibly dark, last night even more so (perhaps to accomodate the projector?). We really couldn't see to eat, which is sort of a problem. Maybe some of those small library-type lights at the table, or a candle, or some LEDs somewhere, so you could at least see if that's a jalapeño or a tomato you're about to put in your mouth. I also really hate the fact that the only non-smoking section of the bar is in that one room. Every other area in the rambling old building is Smokie Smokerton. Plus, apparently all the bathrooms are unisex? Were no chicks consulted in the construction and execution of this facility? You know what else is gross? Black toilets. It's like an abyss, so you can't tell if the seat is wet or dry, clean or dirty. Perhaps even a dude can imagine that it is scary for a chick to have to decide if she should a) flush once just to be sure or b) have faith that that toilet bowl is empty. This inner struggle between conservationist and self-preservation is a buzz-kill, and the beer required to get back on track is, ironically, a vicious circle. If it weren't for very good bar food and a $3 Pacifico special, I fear this might have been a 2 star experience for me, which is rare. Now, I consider screening the NBA Finals to be a big undertaking and big deal (and also rare) so I did not factor this into my star rating but I need to point it out. Begin Finals-centric rant: I know this isn't their fault but oi vey, with five minutes left to play, they lost communication with the satellite and we LOST THE FEED FOR THE GAME. Not sure why, since it was on ABC, and all the little TVs around still had the game. We were able to watch the last few minutes at one of the smaller TVs, but oh my. Wouldn't regular cable (since you clearly have it) be a better choice? Maybe I'm just too into the basketball to go out for the games. At least the Finals. I possibly need a controlled environment. The building is rather inconspicuous, I think! It looked like a home at a glance but facing the street there is a door with "Speakeasy" bannered across it so it isn't impossible to recognize. Most of the parking is around the back where an entrance is as well, but there is also an empty lot across from it that a few people parked in when the back got too crowded. Anywaaay, When we got there it wasn't busy at all and there were plenty of tables to choose from. Since it wasn't quite yet the busy night-shift there was one bartender that I think was serving both sides of the bar, because he kept walking back and forth. Poor guy. I am very pleased that they carry Angry Orchard because that cider is the bomb. They also have a large selection of beer, a lot of it local and such. As for food I ordered the fish and chips (catfish in this case) but they didn't have any catfish. Siiiigh. So I opted for the chicken strips instead. They were alright, nothing exceptional but good for the price. We also got the chips and queso with salsa appetizer and it is not something I'd recommend. The queso was Velvetta, I think and the salsa was... confusing. None of us hated it, but it wasn't great either. It had a weird mushy texture and very little flavor but something about it made us eat it all. I don't understand our motivation, and it frightens me. Then later, I ordered a calamari to split with a friend and they were out of that, too. SIIIIGH. Instead, we got the loaded fries. Another thing I wouldn't really recommend. The fries there are good, no doubt, and the bacon is good as well. I wasn't a fan of the large jalapeno and tomato pieces in it. That was weird. Service there seemed a little haphazard. I couldn't tell who was a worker and who just liked to steal glasses and plates, haha. But it also gave a laid back feel which I can get behind. You order at the bar for drinks and food and someone will bring the food to you. Someone. It's a surprise every time. They were all friendly, though. We were there for trivia with The Lost Ogle. Those dudes are pretty cool. One of them got a wee bit tipsy because people kept buying them shots, hah! It was really fun and entertaining though, and quite enjoyable. They were definitely heckling us, which I found amusing. Trivia night is worth a check-out. Overall: Food is meh, but it's a bar so whatever right? Go there to drink and hang out and trivia. P.S. This place looks like a house on the outside, but the inside looks like a regular ol' bar. Tuesday trivia night is a laugh riot, but prepare to commit 2-2.5 hours of your time. I'm not very good at playing the game, but when you get a good group together, it's a load of fun! Arrive early (half our or so before game time) to secure a table. You can park in the back of the building. Just follow the Forward Foods sign! If you're coming late at night Don't quote me, but I believe there is a parking lot across the street from the bar that you can park in with no problems. Food wise- I've visited the speakeasy a couple times and they always manage to run out of the food things I want to order. Grrr. Thumbs up for Great Divide beer! Loaded nacho/fries are pretty tasty. I'm rating this as a BAR/Nightlife. I can't usually bring myself to go anywhere else on the weekends. Speakeasy just has too much to offer! There is always a good crowd, and a great mix of people, that always seem to be very welcoming. With two stories, and 4 separate bars (2 smoking, 2 non smoking) you have a ton of options! Their drinks are great, and I've never had a bad bartender. It does get very crowded on Fridays and Saturdays, but there is also a huge patio if it gets too stuffy. Drink prices are very comparable, and bartenders are usually helpful on finding something you like. they also have alot of local drinks which I love! It also helps that there are 3 other bars within walking distance, if you need to change it up. One evening I was sitting in a quieter room of the bar (by myself, as I was waiting on a phone call) and the security guard happened to see me and checked that I was ok. It is nice to know they have security inside keeping an eye on people. read more

If you ever wanted a really large house full of rooms to play all sorts of games (board games, foosball, etc.) as a kid, you found the place. It'll be even better now that you're an adult. there are at least four bars located in this joint. Each has their own specialty. Some of them are good for a large collection of beer, and the others for a variety of cocktails. All drinks are reasonably priced. The house is very large and accommodating for several hundred people. Because of its size you would never know that many people were there. Therefore, we were able to have fun and hold a conversation without having to shout. There are several bouncers that patrol the house constantly, so there isn't much concern about having to deal with someone who is out of control either. the only thing that i didn't like is that people are allowed to smoke inside. I guess the city smoking ban hasn't hit Oklahoma City yet. However, there are plenty of designated smoking areas, so it wasn't too bad. All in all, a very fun place to go grab some drinks and play games with friends. read more

Absolutely my favorite bar/venue in OKC. Whatever changes they made when they reopened were definitely for the better. I love the events they host here; they do karaoke every Thursday night. As a huge karaoke fan, I tried it out, because there are other bars in OKC that do karaoke, but it's not a very enjoyable experience. The experience doing karaoke here was by far the best in OKC - it's fun to get up on an actual stage and sing, and everyone is totally supportive and friendly. The shows that I've seen here (Tallows, Husbands, a few others I can't think of right now) have been great - it gets a little crowded in the space around the stage but that's half the fun. I also definitely recommend checking out the monthly (?) dance party they have here - you will sweat like CRAZY but you'll have a crazy good time and run into crazy cool people. Also, during the playoffs, they hosted Thunder watch parties with free hotdogs and $2 Coors, which was such a fun thing to attend - and a pretty unique take. I love that they are supportive of the community they inhabit, and not in a way that just pays lip service - they really get involved and I like that. The service here, I couldn't speak more highly of. Perhaps it's just because I visit here far and away more than any other bar in the metro, but the bartenders are all friendly, and even when it's incredibly busy you don't stand there waiting forever for them to pay attention. I've been to other bars where it'll be dead, and I'll be there trying to get their attention, and they'll just straight up ignore me and/or act annoyed when they do have to get my drink order. I never get that here; they're always all in such positive moods and never seem put out. That's how you get regulars; by being the best. I can't say much on prices of drinks, because I think they're reasonable enough, but I don't drink much so I don't ever get out of there feeling like I've been ripped off. I would recommend this to ANYONE who hasn't been, and if you're into karaoke like me, come by on Thursday nights and get your sing on! read more

This place embodies the hipster movement in OKC. It looks like it is built in an old house and has a cool upstairs bar. We went on a Saturday and there was a live band, though it was unnecessarily loud. Fortunately, you can always retreat upstairs! The whole place is very stylized, and even the clientele looked artsy and cooler than me, so I drank PBR out of a can to look more in place. They had a decent amount of beer on tap downstairs, and I especially love that they have Boulevard since it is scarce down here in Dallas. This place has the best (and only?) pub quiz in OKC, which was the only reason I ever came here. The quiz is pretty good, and hosted by the 2 funny bloggers, but the review here is of the pub itself. It's a manageable place overall; not particularly cozy or well-located but decent enough. I would actually give the food 4 stars here; almost everything I ate here was pretty good for pub grub. The quesadillas are particularly good. Beer selection is OK, too; although they'd make you wait sometimes if it's busy. Service is a hit or miss; there are your typical hipster bartender dudes with an attitude like they do you a favour by serving you, but the girls working the bar tend to be a little bit more helpful. This is not a place I would bring a date, but for a group after-work outing it's not bad. So that's how I would describe the Speakeasy overall: not too bad. read more

I'm a fan. Speakeasy is a great place to pregame or a weekend destination. It's in a great location to meet up with people right in the center of OKC, it's a central place to meet up with friends from the north side to downtown! This is my favorite location for TLO Trivia Night. Something about the speakeasy makes it a great place for vulgar language (a no-no in other TLO trivia locations with kids) and a great selection of drinks! You can get a great beer or mixed drink and it's fairly priced! And if you get hungry, we'll just head over to the Franks Wurst counter! From the brats to fries, you can't go wrong here. They also have a lot of live music, some that I know and enjoy to listen to and others that just provide a nice soundtrack to my night. I liked the shuffle board up stairs and the booths make for a great conversation space if you have a small group. The fact that it's an old house makes for a creepy/cool environment. My favorite place though is the patio. Fresh air and prime cat watching real estate! You can smoke out there, but also sit up wind of the smokers and be comfortable! It's great for a big group to just pull up as many chairs as you need. One of my favorite spots in OKC, give it a try and you won't be disappointed! read more

There are certain areas that are smoke-free and certain areas where you can smoke, but if you ask me...the whole area is basically smokey. This doesn't bother me, but what does bother me (and this is only occasionally) is the crowd. There are times when the Speakeasy turns into a total dude-bro festival, complete with chest bumps and jagar bombs. It's just plain stupid.
