I visited The Blue Door when BJ Barham played and it was a fantastic experience. I enjoyed the intimate environment and loved the fact that my friends and I could bring in our own alcohol and not shell out a fortune for watered down drinks. It was just pure, simple rock and roll...no frills, no fancy drinks, hell not even fancy chairs - but an experience 10x that of the shows I have attended at larger venues. read more

Wildly unimpressed with the unprofessional management at this venue. It is not only a travesty for such talented musicians to share their art on stage and be loudly and wildly disrespected, but to have their vulnerability attacked in such a toxically repugnant way is abusive. I've read other reviews. To say this place welcomes a storytelling genre of musicians is blatantly false, and I'm incredibly disheartened by the vibes. I hope there is a change in the environment, or possibly in the ownership or management or at the least in the professionalism. read more

For as many concerts as I've been to over the years, it's shocking last night's Great Lake Swimmers show was my first visit to The Blue Door. Overall impression: a clean, intimate setting with good acoustics - You can't beat seeing one of your favorite bands here - It's like your own private concert. The BYOB policy is fantastic and while the chairs are a pain in the you-know-what after a bit, it's still awesome that don't have to stand for hours on end. If one of your favorite bands is playing, trust me - It'll be a "bucket-list worthy" experience to see them at The Blue Door. read more

Very neat, small listening room in the heart of OKC "Chinatown." BYOB!!! Greg, the owner, has invested in the vibe and the sound of the room. He also has discerning taste in music, and regularly asks his patrons to "trust him" and support artists they've never heard of. Quite the 21st century message for the arts. Tickets are normally around the $15-20 range, but it only seats 100 so you get what you pay for in intimacy. Buy tickets in advance if you really like the artist - it often sells out. There's a cozy outdoor patio with a fire pit for hanging before and after the show. read more

The Blue Door is a really cool place to catch a show. It almost feels like you are in someone's living room with a great band. Very intimate setting and it is hard not to get completely wrapped up in the music. Is short on seats but never short on people to fill them. It is a good idea to show up early and find a comfy seat. The Blue Door is a BYOB venue. I love this. I am already spending a good chunk on tickets so bringing my own brew cuts down on the cost significantly. Love this place. The music was great, by the way, not the problem. Maybe I was just here on a bad night? Website said doors opened at 7:00 and we were not let in until at least 8:00. The opener didn't even go on until 9:30-10:00. Normally this isn't a big deal, but there was no explanation for it on the website or even once we were let in. I understood the venue was BYOB which I love, so friends and I brought a cooler. I wouldn't recommend this especially after finally getting inside the doors we saw nowhere to put it-- I felt crammed in there like a sardine with no room to do anything but sit. I blame my experience on a lack of information from the website. Like I said, I loved the music, just don't expect more than that. read more

Interesting little venue for live music. BYOB. I went to see Chris Trapper, a singer/songwriter, and at first was questioning the integrity of the music from this tiny place. To my surprise, everything went great. Yes, it's a small, no frills type of place. Yes, it's BYOB. Yes the seats are just folding chairs and no tables. Singer-Songwriter Essentials American-music served straight up in an intimate venue for those who truly appreciate what the artist has to say. Blue Door patrons come to hear the music. Greg Johnson has created a unique storyteller forum in a casual BYOB neighborhood place that happens to showcase great singer-songwriters. As example, last night I heard Tracy Grammer deliver an amazingly vulnerable and enchanting performance that rivaled any concert I have ever witnessed. Her transcendent vocals were as inspired as her loving tribute to Dave Carter. Historical perspective. I threw papers along this block 53 years ago. At the time, it was called the "Black Brick", and was known as a Jazz music venue. In the 70's, I saw Michael Murphy perform there. So, the musical history of this venue goes back 60 years or so. It has seen intimate performances of countless iconic performers, and is the most under appreciated historical music venue in Oklahoma City, if not the State. read more

This place is a very unique venue. It's very basic and has simple rows of folding chairs instead of tables or permanent seating. I think it would be nicer to have tables personally. Maybe this isn't what they're going for, but it would be really nice, particularly for shows that do not sell out. There were several empty rows of seats when I was there. The place is BYOB, which was nice in terms of affordability. The music was interesting and local. Since the venue itself is so bare bones, I think it all depends on who is playing there. I heard that they get a lot of really good performers from time to time who usually don't play at such small venues and I think it'd really be a treat to see them play there. read more

This is a wonderful venue for seeing lesser known acts. It's a small room, which means there's not a bad seat in the place. You're going to get the up close and personal treatment. This venue is also BYOB which is nice if you'd like to enjoy a glass of wine or your favorite beer as you listen. The only real con is that the chairs are average metal folding chairs which can get a bit uncomfortable after a while. read more

What happened at the show I attended Friday, January 31, 2020 was a break down in trust and in public decency. In almost 20 years of seeing shows, I've never seen this kind of behavior from a venue owner. Music is a form of self expression, and an invitation to create community. When the owner of the venue stormed in from the back of the room and yelled during the introduction to the band's last song, "If you don't start your song, I'm going to cut you off, I mean it" it mutes self expression and severs the invitation to create community. It was shocking to be surrounded by posters of old folkies who have paved the way with their stories, and hear the musicians be told afterward that they had not earned the right to talk on stage, among other insults of how bad their music was and how they weren't even worth promoting the show for (they had booked 8 months in advance and the venue only posted them on the calendar page of the website 4 weeks before the show and never posted the bio they sent). Vague language about making phone calls in the ilk of "you'll never work in this town again" was danced around. It was abuse of power. It was harassment. The outburst was broadcast ahead of time as the owner stormed around muttering and yelling while the opener played. We heard numerous times that "that's just how he is." People apologized on his behalf. It's not a joke. It's not a throwback to a funny antidote about cranky old white dudes and their unpredictable ways. It's a toxic abuse cycle. And it was directed at two women who were taking up space during their allotted time. I know that there are articles written and accolades given to this venue which has spent a long time cultivating a liberal perspective in a conservative land. But it's only lip service when the progress does not extend to the people playing on the stage. I don't want any part of it. I will not be returning to this "esteemed venue" whose owner uses what should be a safe space to humiliate himself, the musicians, and the audience. read more

Stood outside in the cold for 40 minutes since door opened late. Then another 30 minute wait for the music to start. Chairs are hard metal and I only made it to intermission when I left after 40 minute wait for music to start up again. The group was good but not great. But it was nice to have live music in Oklahoma without any smoking. I could see if you want to drink alcohol and socialize it would be a fun evening but the hard chairs and the long waits were too much for me. I probably won't go back unless the band is fabulous. read more

Debated a 3 star here but thought what the heck 4 sounds almost as good as the show I heard here the other night. I will give you the reasons I wasn't a fan. Mostly it is a cramped little space in a warehouse somewhere in downtown OKC. I am not used to sitting during concerts but as this place advertises it is a listening room. The pluses to this enviroment where that it was relaxed with a great sound. Just set back and enjoy the show. Even if it was a little cramped. In the long run the music will sooth your soul. I would say it is worth checking out a show here. Just get here early to get seating for you and yours. Oh and it's BYOB as they don't serve anything here. You bring what you would like to drink outside of the hard stuff. read more

The best small venue in OKC! Though they have a lot of Red Dirt-type acts appear there, they're very diverse overall. They get some great acts, ranging from indie rock crooners like Ian Moore to the famous songwriter Jimmy Webb. They're a singer/songwriter's venue at heart, and the owner, Greg Johnson knows his shit, and he's very passionate about music. TIckets are usually $10-20, and it couldn't be a more intimate setting. Get there early if there's a fairly big name; it only seats around 100. read more

This listening room is the coolest. I'm glad it exists. As someone who loves folk music, I can't imagine a better indoor venue. It feels quite historic and also unique. The acoustics are fantastic, and someone else had mentioned there isn't a bad seat( yes, it's fairly small). I also love that it's nonsmoking (not everyone can be in a smoky bar so I miss out on a lot of music I'd like to see in Okc). I have never been to a listening room before this, and I appreciate being able to actually hear and see everything so well (and breathe... very important!) read more

The best kept music and entertainment location in Oklahoma City. A small, intimate venue, but the Blue Door attracts the musical acts that are of the highest quality. Ray Wylie Hubbard and Kate Campbell, two of America's best living songwriter's and storytellers EVER, show up for concernts regularly. Greg's infallible ear for talent ensures that even if/when you have never heard of an act, you are guaranteed a rocking good time. Also, while not the most comfortable, even from the back row, the space is small enough the audience always gets the opporrtunity to talk with the artists. Best of all, sometimes they also tell stories (real) from their travels and that makes a great night even better. Even better, ticket prices are affordable for budgets in the most straightened circumstances. For years now, well decades, the Blue Door has been my go to place for seeing artists, and buying their CDS after the show. Make the time. Go. Show up early. Put up with the occassional delay; bring your own cooler with your preferred soda or other libations of choice, and ENJOY! You won't regret it. read more
