It's only been a week since my 10th session and it's hard to say if I feel much overall relief in my neck caused from accident since my neck is still stiff and pained at times. Time will tell. I definitely feel like my body is put together and I don't feel so broken but I came to see Ali after a car accident causing me to suffer neck shoulder and back pain. It's hard to compare or say her skill level since this is my first try at Rolfing but every appointment was like a workout for both of us. What she does is not easy and she exerts a lot of energy and aloha into what she does. I found her on google searching for pain relief post car accident after having done physical therapy, chiropractic therapy, massage therapy, body manipulation therapy, accupuncture and cupping which none have really given me much pain relief or any real resolve. I was desperately seeking something different, something helpful, something positive from all the rest. I am still searching for pain relief 8 months later. Ali walks you through and explains what to expect which I appreciate greatly. I was always told Rolfing hurts and yes it does, but the pain was almost always worth it. I did feel specific post Rolfing appointment pains which led to the next appointment then releasing the current pain so everything in my body seemed to release such tension. Now that my 10sessions are up it's suggested to wait 3 months for any therapy besides accupuncture. 8 days now since last session and i still have a stiff neck and some aches and pains. Life changing! ROLFING: Alison has a true talent for healing. Old injuries had come back to haunt me with a vengeance; I was crooked and in pain. Acupuncture & chiropractic just weren't doing the trick. I needed something with more 'oomph' and so I did the standard 10-session Rolf program with Alison. Although there were painful moments, I really enjoyed the sessions, and I could feel it working; I could tell this was what my body needed to become realigned. I am now able to do all my regular physical activities once again. What a blessing. MASSAGE: She is also an AMAZING masseuse. I threw my shoulder out of place again and went to see her. This time she gave me a massage with some Rolfing techniques integrated. It totally fixed me. She explained that because we had done the core work, it was much easier to get the muscles back in order this time. And I can't even find the words to describe how good the massage felt. Just magical. TECHNIQUE: First, of all, the ambiance is comfortable and relaxing. Music, candles, scents. Ali integrates breathing techniques, visualizations, delicious essential oils and thoughtfulness into her practice. She is 100% present at all times, and her intuition guides her hands to all the trouble spots. I have been working with Ali for over 2 years now. She has worked on me as well as my daughter doing outcall sessions. As far as her skill level & ability to create change in the body I continue to give that aspect of the work a 5 star rating. She was able to identify my daughter's scoliosis & knee problem see the connection between the two & I am so grateful for the work she has done helping us. She is an excellent rolfer. Healing is more than technical skill alone though and I have been disappointed over time to find that Ali is not able to be a consistently kind & compassionate healer. I'm a neat freak with kids & a dog so have a clean but lived in house. Almost every session there was a negative comment about something in the house (too hot, too many stairs, smoke from the neighbors, too much traffic, wrong blanket, blanket with an odor because our washing machine broke, etc.) or related to the kids/dog/cat pillows etc. I just adapted & had a routine to let her control the AC. There was always something for her to be critical of & over time that has been exhausting. I am used to dealing with difficult people at work so have been willing to just let it go because she is such a good rolfer so I tried to just focus on the positive. Recently though, I requested a session after an injury. It was great that she responded quickly & got me in. During the session I was in a lot of pain and made a small involuntary noise of discomfort when having to change position & she said in an irritated tone: "you know, rolfing is not meant for acute injuries!" she was frustrated at me for not being able to be perfectly positioned for the work. At the end of the session when watching me stand she expressed disappointment about my alignment & the results of the session & she commented that there wasn't much she could do for an acute injury. I'm pretty understanding & hadn't known that prior, so said that was ok and we could just resume the work when I was feeling better. I was in a tremendous amount of pain and said that the only thing I really needed from the session that day was for her to be kind to me & that I felt that was missing from the session. This was the only time in several years of us working together that I had expressed a critical comment. When I said it I was kind & direct. Generally I am happy & grateful & give a lot of positive feedback & thank her for the sessions. I was shocked that she wasn't able to talk about my feelings about the session. Instead of talking about it she reacted & said: "you know, rolfing is usually done only a few times in a lifetime it's not meant to be ongoing work ... I don't know that we need to keep working together... I don't know if I'm going to keep doing outcalls ... I'm the only rolfer on Maui even doing outcalls right now." She then let me know our regular time slot for the last year would no longer work & when trying to find a new spot she made no effort to be accommodating. I clarified whether the sessions were indicated (they are), so suggested we make another appointment. Prior to that appointment she asked if I would be willing to buy a massage table for the house to make outcalls easier on her. I said yes & purchased a table. At the follow up session she arrived irritated & worked on both my daughter & myself. At the end of the session she announced she would no longer do outcall appointments for us. I told her I was confused, as earlier in the week she indicated she wanted us to have a table at home to continue the work. She said that didn't matter she was done & we could drive to see her in Haiku. It was clear she could care less. She commented that we could see someone else & I got the impression she would be relieved to not see us anymore because my comment from the prior session upset her. My daughter's health is important to me so I let her know what time would work for us and she let me know there was no space for my younger daughter to wait except outside on her porch. When I told her I would just sit on the porch with my 6yo & to schedule us, instead of putting it in her calendar like we she sent me a link to schedule through requiring a credit card deposit. My gut feeling was to not go back & to find some someone else to work with. Bottom line she's a good technical rolfer but can't handle criticism or hold a compassionate warm healing space. She lacks interpersonal skills and ability to be empathetic. So she's like a car mechanic not a healer. I have attempted to talk with her about this since the comments she made below. In our dialogue she said she felt uncomfortable with my comment during the session I was injured and that made her think I should see someone else. In the messages she sent there was no awareness that this is very unusual and shows lack of empathy. She is unable to take responsibility for her actions & blamed me instead. Confirming my assessment that she lacks the kindness & soul of a healer. read more

After finally coming back to the mainland with true knowledge about the essential elements the body and mind need to thrive, Ali stopped off in the Bay Area for a few months. I am so lucky to have been able to receive some of her amazing skill. I had a massage first and it was the best massage I've ever had. Right away I was able to relax and really let go of the tension in my body and my life. She listened to my concerns and really took the time to work on areas I said were full of aches and pains. I received a rolfing from Ali at Ola Natural Healing in our rental home near Paia this past December. She was great! She asked me questions at the beginning of the session to get a sense of the issues I hoped to address during the rolfing, and had me walk around and stand facing different directions to get a sense of my alignment and body structure. Then she went to work! The session was the right combination of relaxation, education and interactive participation, and she made sure to spend time working on my whole body while still giving extra time to the most troublesome areas. She has a strong touch so I made sure to breathe into the area she was working on, but she never went beyond my comfort level in terms of pressure. She also recommended some stretches to keep my hamstrings loose. After the session I felt more balanced, a little taller and more solid in my lower back which was one of the areas that was aching. I received the full rolfing series from Ali a few months ago. My experience was very fulfilling in many ways. I went to Ali because I will be getting jaw surgery soon and I learned that jaw problems can stem from misalignments in other places of the body such as the hips.
