Love this place! This is one of those places that I've driven past a ton of times on the way up to Mammoth, but I've never stopped. I decided this past year that I want to try all of these little stops off the 395 that I always pass, and this is definitely one of my favorites! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Looking at it from the highway the place is a bit unassuming, but once you park and really take it in it's got a really cool homey, rustic feel to it.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The dining room feels like you're in a pioneer cabin, and the staff was incredibly friendly.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] She even gave us a little tour of the facilities, which includes a cluster of teepees that you can glamp in. The food was great, I got the Olancha burger with fries and both were delicious. They also have a selection of bottled and canned local brews, I got a beer from the nearby Indian Wells brewery (which I still need to visit). [[HIGHLIGHT]]If you are in a rush this place may not be your best option as the food is cooked to order and there's just one person doing the cooking, but I really enjoyed the atmosphere of the dining room and strolling around the grounds.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] If you're on you're way up or back from Mammoth I highly recommend a stop here if you appreciate roadside stops, it feels like a slice of old California. I don't know if this place was ever on "California's Gold" with Huell Howser, but it definitely feels like one of those places that he would visit.

The drive from the OC has gotten our appetizers up and the 1.5 hour drive to Bishop was a bit far. So i googled this place and had to try it. We love to try little holes in the wall and from the reviews it was very appealing. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Very quiet place, food was excellent as shown in pictures.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Thank you for filling our happy bellies!!

Thank you for staying open "late" the Sunday of Thanksgiving weekend. After hiking a full day in Death Valley National Park, I was starving and there are limited food options in the area. Luckily, Olancha Cafe wasn't too far from where I was staying for the night and it was open "late", meaning open after 7pm. Upon entering, a nice lady (who is the cook and cashier) provided warm greetings and I was so happy that she was going to fire up the stove as the kitchen had its light off. She mentioned she was getting ready to close up early (think they officially close at 8pm). I opted for a grilled chicken salad and a bacon cheeseburger was also ordered. The salad was refreshing and the grilled chicken was tender, not dry. I didn't have any bites of the bacon cheeseburger, but it looked as expected. While the food was getting packed up, I had a lovely conversation with this lady who shared more about the area and how more people are moving there as land and homes are very affordable. This restaurant is also a gift shop with different trinkets for sale inside. Easy parking, well-lit at night, and friendly service make for an end of a great Sunday. #43/2021

Grass fed burger with side salad.

The food was fresh and delicious. I had a chicken salad and my husband had a burger with a side salad. The food was really good and the service was awesome! We were greeted by Heather when we got there, who also prepared our food. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Highway 395 was recently diverted and Olancha Cafe is no longer on the highway. It's just a couple minutes off now. But I like it because without the traffic it's quiet and peaceful.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]We sat outside and ate on the patio.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We will definitely be back!

Breakfast burrito with bacon and sausage, and French toast.

Driving down the 395 we came across this little gem of a place called Olancha Cafe. The restaurant looked super cute with their vines framing the entrance. Everything on the menu was very familiar and appealing. We ordered the breakfast burrito with bacon and sausage and the French toast plate. The size of the burrito was big, meat loaded, and grilled with a side of sour cream, pico de gallo, and green salsa. We highly recommend this burrito, it was fantastic. The French toast was also great, I specifically loved that it came with real maple syrup. Real maple syrup is always a game changer for me because it isn't as sweet as the bottled stuff. And finally I need to give a huge kudos to Heather who is a one woman show. She was super friendly, inviting, and a wonderful cook. I will definitely be stopping here from now on when traveling out this way.

It was around 1pm and I was still looking to have breakfast, but my hubby was looking for lunch. This place seemed to offer both and the reviews were good too! We were able to park right up front. They have an outside patio in the front area as an option to dine at. It was definitely a hot day in the high 90's, so it wasn't an option for us to sit out there today. Although they did have misters on which was a nice touch. We walked in to a busy place and there were only two tables available, so we sat down right away. It took a while for us to get our menu's, but we can see it was busy. Our server was really nice and once we ordered our food, it was served pretty quickly! I ordered the Ironman Scramble with the Cheddar Jalapeño bread which the bread was so delicious! I also ordered a refreshing Peach Iced Tea. My husband ordered the Alabama Hills Bacon Cheese Burger and a Strawberry Lemonade. We were both very happy with our meals and even ordered a Cinnamon Roll to go! All the baked goods looked amazing too.

It took a few minutes of waiting but our waitress came by and took our order. We ordered fresh OJ while we decided what to eat. Unfortunately our waitress never came back to take our food order after we got our OJ. Around the 10min mark of waiting and wondering where our waitress was, we overheard the staff telling some of the customers that their systems were down and were not able to take orders or payment. Oddly, they only seemed to communicate this to guests who were waiting or standing in line. I saw one customer pay cash for their food while they let another customer go without asking for payment (they told him not to worry about it). However, I didn't see any of the staff communicate to patrons who were already seated, including us. After another 10min of waiting to see if someone would come by to tell us of the issue, we decided to just get up and leave after being there for almost 30 minutes. On our way out, we handed some cash to a random staff member to pay for the OJ, but she didn't even seem to care. Although I was excited to try their breakfast items, their service (or lack thereof) has turned me away from wanting to visit again. I understand you're busy and having your systems offline added to the chaos, but the staff could have easily just made an announcement to the whole restaurant (it's a small restaurant) about the issue, thanking people for their patience, and letting us know what to expect.

The staff was kind, and the building was cool, but that's where the charm ended. We walked into an obese pit bull literally sitting on a chair at the table, right next to where we got seated. There had been a sign out front saying there was a "service dog" inside with a picture of the obese pit bull in question, so I guess that's helpful but calling it a service dog really stretches credulity. I'm not sure what service the dog is providing for the owner who was not present until the end of our meal, at which point he paraded the dog around the tiny restaurant to greet customers. Another customer came in with a dog, too - apparently this tiny restaurant is teetering into becoming a dog park. I love dogs. I work with animals for a living. I am a dog owner and bring my dog everywhere I can, within reason and with the explicit permission of the businesses we visit. I do NOT appreciate a poorly-behaved pit bull, kept docile by virtue of his excessive weight, slobbering on a dining table. I do not appreciate dog dander in my food. But mostly, being in a family that used actual guide dogs - as in, dogs that were specifically bred and trained for YEARS by experienced professionals to assist their visually impaired handlers all day, completely ignore food and people that try to interact with them, and to tuck themselves quietly at their handler's feet at a restaurant, I'm put off by "service dogs" just moseying around a restaurant or sitting at a table with diners. It really does seem like this dog's main purpose is to hang out and be a restaurant mascot, which sure sounds like a health code violation. Dog dander aside, the food was basically on par with what you might order at any American-style Chinese restaurant. The orange chicken had a strong orange peel flavor, so it stood out. The rice was dry. I didn't notice anything unique about the soy sauce. The other items we ordered were unremarkable.
