The first time we arrived, we were greeted so kindly by Jerry. She was warm, patient, and genuinely made us feel welcomed. Food was solid with good portions. Jerry also provided a bowl of water for our dogs when it was hot outside. She made sure they were comfortable in the outside patio where we dined. We were hoping to see Jerry again on our second visit but service was still good and friendly. But Jerry is the reason we hope to come back the next time we're in the area. read more

Our destination - Independence, 17 miles north of Lone Pine. Our issue if the night; we wantedto dine on more than snacks and Independence eateries were out of buziness or closed. Driving to Lone Pine we found The Grill. Open. Ready to feed us. Our bodies are recovering the bits and pieces we left behind on our 2026 Western Express Tour. Writing 10 days post-return I am 90% sure we split a tasty pulled pork sandwich and a side of cole slaw. Ambiance; neat clean modern diner with outdoor picnic table seating. Pretty solid joint for a nice snack off the 395. I'm preparing for a massive hike next month, so I got something relatively healthy hehe. The blackened chicken sandwich had a really good flavor to it, and was pretty delicious. I got it with the side salad and it was mediocre. The french fries here are really good though, stole some from my partner's plate. He had the burger, which he thought was just ok as well. Service was incredibly friendly, and this place is very dog friendly. I have a small Chihuahua who I considered to be my child, and they really treated him like a human, which I appreciate. read more

The entry is a bit confusing (one door for entry around the building from the parking lot, and one set of doors that lead to the patio for exit?) but once inside it was quiet, clean and cool. Sit wherever you want is nice, so we sat by the window. A friendly lady greeted us, took our drink order and returned shortly for our food order. The menu is sparse, mostly sandwiches and lunch options, with some salad options as well. We ordered a BLT & a patty melt, fries, onion rings & two waters. The BLT had thick cut bacon, and some of the freshest lettuce & tomatoes I've ever had. The patty melt was bland and flavorless. The fries and onion rings were good. For sandwiches, it's a little on the pricy side at $56 for two, also considering we had water to drink, so with all the other options in town, I can't say I would recommend this place to anyone passing through, but it wasn't bad. After hiking early we stopped by for breakfast/brunch, but they don't serve breakfast, so we went with the lunch options and their menu was full of plenty of different options. I went w the Santa Fe, and while it was good, the flavors were fairly plain, even w the chilis on top. Usually a 'patty melt' style is fairly greasy/buttery, but this was more toasted than grilled, so that cut out any greasy mess on your fingers (but could've provided a bit more flavor). My friend loved his salmon burger with egg and said he'd easily order it again. The staff was pleasant, the place was clean and the food was clearly made out of quality ingredient and professionally served. We were there right at opening, and despite a low music, there's not much ambience to the place, but once the crowds show up, it gets a little more audibly loud which was better than the empty room. read more

During my visit to Lone Pine, I came here a few times and it was just delicious! The service is also great, the waitress Terry I believe was her name was just a sweetheart and extremely welcoming! The place itself is very well kept, really clean. There's indoor seating and outdoor seating. Doggies are welcome which was a plus for me since I bring my fur baby practically everywhere with me. The place is clean and has a clean restroom. The host is friendly. But the food was very subpar for the pricing. We had two order of burgers which were okiesh. And we also had an order of butter noodles from the kids menu which had unhealthy amounts of butter (the hostess did mention upon asking that you have to explicitly ask for less butter). Everything costs about $20.00 and up. I hate to say this but you would be better off going to a fast food restaurant, if no other options are available. We were not looking for perfection by any means, but there are basic cooking skills necessary and expected by the average person. 1. Salt the water when you cook pasta. 2. Don't break the pasta up and cook it. Your customers can wind it on their forks. It is for them to handle. If you are calling it linguine, or calling it anything specific, it should retain the shape of which it is named. Otherwise, your menu description should perhaps characterize it as the general term 'macaroni'. 3. Adding a premade sauce to pasta that has no depth of flavor is just a sin. You can easily cook down onion, peppers, garlic, etc. as a base. The sauces have no flavor whatsoever. The butter sauce must be unsalted butter as well. Literally, no flavor. The spicy sauces just taste 'hot', not a developed heat. And again, not looking for perfection here, but come on - my ten year old nephew can accidentally do better. 4. Adding a ton of cheese to pasta is not adding flavor. Adding a hunk, or mound, of blue cheese to a burger does not make the patty any better. Simply put, you know when you eat at a restaurant and it is memorable? This one is for all the wrong reasons. Everyone in our party remembers it - always will. Horrible. read more

In fact, $26 bucks for that is daylight robbery. My friends ordered a jalapeño burger and the salmon dish. So tell me, why does the salmon dish, which contains just enough food for a baby cost $25? The jalapeño burger was good but he does not recommend this for after a mountain trip - he could've eaten 3. All in all, everything else but the food was fine. Great place to stop by on the way to Mammoth. Got there a little over 8:30pm on a Friday night and the place was pretty packed. The place is pretty big and if it isn't freezing, there are plenty of tables outside. Huge parking lot available. Luckily we were able to get a table quick. Was greeted by Jenny (I think that was her name) who was very friendly and sweet. Even though it was busy and it looked like she was the only server, she took her time with us and didn't make us feel rushed. - Ordered the burger with onion rings. One of the best onion rings I've had- perfectly crisp and delicious. - Hubby got the pulled pork sandwich which was flavorful and good. The fries were nice and crispy. I was stuffing my face with onion rings so I forgot to take a picture of his. Needed something quick and delicious and this place definitely hit the spot. It was also very reasonably priced.
