Amazing Texas bbq! Great staff and good lunch special pricing ! never leave hungry

Well, we were back to visit...and although we spaced out Ladd's offer on the Akaushi Beef Brisket, The visit was awesome...The regular Brisket is really good...Tender, juicy and made a great second meal the next day...But the Akaushi Rules the game for sure...Also had a chance to try the Pork Loin...great flavor, light smoke along with a 1/2 chicken...was like butter, granddaughter loved that, along with the Mac and Cheese...Chopped Beef, how can you go wrong with that...Cream Corn is always a win!..1st time with the Beans...and wont be the last time....All you can eat!!...Although the wife is Not a fan of this option...I was...great pepper flavor, and the spicy BBQ sauce was a nice add..Will Always be fan of the Potato Salad...I can never eat HEB brand again...Old 300 will always be on the radar for us, just because the drive is awesome...Head down thru New Braunfels and take the trip up...Enjoy the hill country and some great BBQ when you land in Blanco...Great weekend/weekday trip...(Pickled Onions Rule!!!)...We always over order, but we get always get 2 meals out of it.. read more

Great food. Large portions but a little pricey. They had 3 kinds of cobbler today and it only took 5 minutes to get our food

We did a day trip to Blanco on a Saturday and went to 300 BBQ for dinner. It was another box to check on our Texas BBQ tour, and it was a pleasant surprise given that I'd never heard of it before. They have two kinds of brisket - Akaushi and Angus. Akaushi is a grass-fed leaner beef brisket. Angus is the traditional brisket. I can't comment on the Akaushi b/c for me, "lean" and "brisket" should never be used in the same sentence. But I can say the Angus brisket was moist, juicy and delicious. My wife and I shared the El Jeffe sandwich which was comprised of sliced brisket and jalapeño sausage, and it was more than enough for both of us. I'm guessing there was about a pound of meat between the buns! The sausage was excellent. My only comment on that is I wish they had a jalapeño cheddar option. They had two homemade sauce options - spicy and sweet. I liked both, and even combined them on some bites. Our sides included cole slaw and mac and cheese, both solid options. While the mac and cheese was good, I prefer mine to be a bit more on the creamy side, while this version was more of a casserole style. I also enjoyed the lightly sweet cornbread muffin that I ordered as a side. As for pricing, it's easy to drop over $50 for a family of three when we go out for BBQ. Coming in under $40 for our order of two massive sandwiches, sides and drinks was impressive. Atmosphere was quaint, with that old town Texas feel you'd expect when visiting a town like Blanco. Unassuming rustic little building set in the shadow of the historic Blanco County Courthouse serving up some of the finest BBQ in Texas. Today was my first visit based on recommendations from locals and YELP reviews. I had the pork ribs which are the very epitome of BBQ pork. Sauce would have only detracted from the flavor of these meaty, perfectly cooked ribs. My friend had an impressive Willie Nelson sandwich loaded with meat. This is my new home for Q in the Hill Country and the friendly staff will be seeing my smiling countenance often. Kudos for great Q, more than adequate servings, personable staff, clean and orderly facility. Very highly recommended for any Barbeque lover. Worth traveling from Austin and San Antonio. read more

Our original plan was to have lunch at Ronnie's Ice House, but Ronnie's is closed today. So we found Old 300 on Yelp. The Angus Brisket wasn't impressive at all. It's dry and has no flavor itself, so you have to eat it with source. The pork ribs are great and way exceeded our expectation. The kids loved the cream corn which was really tasty. In general, the food is average. But the service was terrible, especially one of the cashiers. She messed up our order. When I asked her about whether we ordered too much for our group, she replied that she couldn't see our order!!!! What a classic answer!!! read more

However good the BBQ is has been overshadowed by the very loud music (fiddle and singing). So loud that two people at the table furtherest from the musicians could not have a conversation. The brisket was good, but the chopped beef sandwich was just okay. And owner needs to remove the rocks from the ladies' restroom lavatory. Nasty water was puddled in the lavatory from previous customers' handwashing. Won't ever go back. read more

Thank GOD for this little gem of a BBQ place. If you want classic traditional wholesome DELICIOUS bbq, you have found the place. I just want to say THANK YOU to the lady who worked at the front register with the pure white hair. Thank you for treating us like the human beings that we are and for being so kind. My boyfriend and I drove over 1,450 miles just to feel some form of freedom and normalcy and thankfully for some great wholesome food. The two kinds of brisket were AMAZING!! especially with those sauces!!! I have to be honest though -- the creamed corn!!!! OMG!!! :9 I would come back just for that. Thank you for being amazing. When I asked if they had a plate I was told no, everything sold separately. Minimum 1/8 pound. 1/8 lb brisket is one slice. I order 1/2 lb is four slices. 1 lb ribs is 4 pork ribs, usually a pound is a full slab. Then one side. $27 for lunch with a cup of water. Wow. I sit down and see a chalk board a lunch special 1/2 lb sliced brisket, one side and drink $7.95. Are you kidding me? That's not a plate? A family walks in. Same speech. Must have cost them $100+. Food not unpleasant but I wouldn't go out of my way to get ripped off to eat it again! I hate a dishonest merchant!!!!!!!! After reading Ladd's response I can only laugh out loud. I was an individual so to suggest a family pack when I was complaining about not being told about having a plate when the lunch special was a PLATE doesn't seem like a miscommunication it sounds like double talk. read more

Great BBQ at the Old 300 BBQ in Blanco. Live band, bbq was excellent and staff was friendly. Interesting to see all the history here. My family is part of the original Old 300 who settle in Texas in 1824. Each family received 4424 acres with the promise to be good moral people and to become Mexican Citizens!! Nice drive from Austin/worth the drive! Try the special grass-fed Akaushi brisket! The special brisket, sausage and pork ribs were all good. I had a bite of a friend's regular brisket and it was a little underwhelming since I had already tried the special brisket. It is *definitely* worth the extra price for the special brisket. Potato salad and coleslaw were good but I would pass on the Mac and cheese. It wasn't bad at all but just wasn't exactly my fav. I typically don't love okra but liked theirs. I typically prefer spicy bbq sauce to regular but I found the flavor much better on the regular sauce here. Staff was friendly and helpful. Nice seating outside near the courthouse. They ran out of the special brisket and the jalapeño sausage when we were there so maybe go early-ish? :) read more

Good moist bbq-the Bananna pudding was yummy-we tried smoked turkey, brisket, half chicken and fried okra, all were good. I'm not a great BBQ expert, but based on the crowed I would say others think it's a top choice. I did think it was a little pricey. Example: $33.95 for 12 ribs - plan on about $15 per person at min. As I have stated in other BBQ reviews - BBQ is much about preference. For my preference - Old 300 is darn good BBQ. Brisket - moist, flavorful, a little char but not too much. Pork Loin - mmmm - nuff said Sausage - flavor was great (texture was a little off / kind of mushy - I am starting to think its a Texas thing) Sandwiches come on a hoagy style roll - very nice choice Potato Salad - pretty decent Deviled Eggs - I liked them a lot (I think there is quite a bit of pickle in it so if you aren't a pickle fan - ask. Not sure if that was what I was tasting or not) Side Note: Sides are pretty big - enough for two. They have two BBQ sauces - both very good and very different from one another. Aside from the mother with two unruly kids that yelled and screamed (apparently she has learned to tune them out) at each other on the patio so loudly we could hardly carry on our conversation - this is a great spot for BBQ. Central Texas BBQ can be put into two eras: pre and post Franklin's. Before Franklin's, BBQ was BBQ. Some of it was good, some of it was bad. We're living in a post Franklin's world where there's melt your face awesome, acceptable, and bad. Old 300 is doing a pretty good job of running close to awesome. I showed up on a Saturday morning to pick up some BBQ to take for lunch. I got some regular brisket, some Akaushi brisket, pork ribs, and a chicken. The regular brisket was acceptable. Back to my earlier story, maybe 10 years ago it was really good brisket. Now, it's acceptable. The pork ribs were sufficient. Maybe a little dry? I left the chicken for my grandmother to have later, but it sure looked good. Let's talk about that Akaushi brisket though. Oh man. It's times like this when no one can argue against good meat making good BBQ. The orange tone of the grease from all of it tells me they have a special rub, but I think this Akaushi brisket would have been good no matter what you do to it. It's totally worth the extra price. Just get it. I bought slaw, cream corn, and beans for sides. They were all tasty. Nothing outrageous, but certainly good. If you're in Blanco, dropping in is advisable. read more

Old 300 recently catered our daughter's wedding reception in the Blanco/Wimberley area. The food and service were excellent! When available, I always like to work with local businesses, so I was especially glad Old 300 does catering. Allen, the catering manager, did what he said he would do, and he did it all on time. Today's item jalapeno sausage "sandwich". To me a sandwich is sandwich bread or a bun, this was an 8" long roll, soft, fresh, white bread. I'd call it a po'boy. Food/Quality: 3*** The sausage: Good spice, not overly fatty, course grind, bit too much nitrate taste but I'd eat it again. I'd give it a 4****. The bread: white bread doesn't get a rating unless it stands out, good or bad. No problems here. The sauce: "Texas sweet", seemed just run of the mill sauce, give it a 2**. Value: 4**** This had to be 2/3 or 3/4 lbs on this "sandwich". I was stuffed for $6. Jan 15, 2014 Ok, I've been here twice before with bad experiences both times, but I came back. The owner asked that I give it another chance since they had changed pit master. So, ... Decor: 4****, it's clean, modern, what you would expect from a new joint these days. Service: 4****, it's order at the counter, and seat yourself. If you order something that needs cooking, i.e. fries, they'll bring it to your table. The counter girl was quick and efficient, the pit guy promptly, and most importantly, freshly, (yea!, an improvement) sliced the brisket. Food/Quality: 3***, I had brisket, a side of beans, some of the no extra charge white bread and sauce. First the brisket, finally this place gets it and serves from the second. Good 1/4"+ smoke ring past the fat cap, the bark on the fat was thin, and they sliced it by hand 1/4" thick, (yea!, another improvement). The brisket was well marbled, moist, good smokey flavor, and tender. The one thing off was the bark was thin and quite tough. I've given better briskets a 4, so this one gets a 3***, but on the high side. Next, the beans, they're alright, a little hint of heat and a big hint of bock beer, 3***. The sauce, "Texas Spicy", ketchup, mustard, apple cider vinegar, pepper, ..., thickish, it a 2** to me. White bread, with brisket is the only time I eat white bread, 0*, oh it was fresh, still it's white bread. Big Red, yup, out of a glass bottle, 4**** Value: 2**, 1/2# meat, cup of beans, & a Big Red, $14. Overall, the brisket has greatly improved since opening. Wow! We came here after a night camping at Guadalupe River state park and was blown away. My fiancé got the lunch special with brisket and said it was better than most Austin BBQ briskets. I ordered 4 sides (Mac and cheese, creamed corn, coleslaw, and deviled eggs). The Mac and cheese is as good as others say it is but the creamed corn really stood out. I had more than enough to eat with all these vegetarian sides. I hope we can come here again...SOON! read more

Expected more after reading the reviews... as in more to like. You walk in, go to the counter to order, and then find a table. The young staff brings the food while calling your name out if it's a to-go order. We probably would have enjoyed it more if we had ordered to-go instead of eating in. First, if you're tall, i.e. 6' or more, beware the transition header between the room containing the beverage and condiment bars en route to the main front dining room. As somebody 6'4", if you don't duck, you'll get the header at about eyebrow level. And, needing to go back and forth (it was our first visit), it was ridiculous having to bend over each trip. And for the lawsuit-minding, there's no sign saying "Duck" or "Watch Your Head". Second, I wondered why at least 5 or 6 kids were wandering around staring up and down, peeking under things, lifting lids off the trash cans, and generally just acting as if they were on a scavenger hunt. Turns out, this place has a policy/practice of hiding a small green dinosaur (if I remember right) and upon finding it, the lucky person is given a free dessert. Unlucky for everybody else trying to eat in peace. Is this a BBQ joint or a daycare facility? Sheessshhh!! And it wasn't crowded; I can imagine the throng of searching kids if it was busy. No thanks. Even McDonalds and Chik-fil-A have separate play areas to keep kids away from patrons just trying to enjoy their food. Food was okay, but not served hot enough, and too expensive. Blanco is a cute and tiny town. They should price the food for locals, not tourists. We were very underwhelmed by this place. read more

The barbecue here is totally awesome. My husband and I checked it out after a recommendation from my boss. It's air-conditioned, which is great in July. There were a lot of patrons enjoying the food around 2pm but no line. Essentially, you build your own plate as they don't offer plate options. We ordered a pound of brisket, 1/2 pound turkey breast and 3 ribs. The meat is totally worth it. The brisket was perfectly smoked, flavorful and juicy. Turkey may have been the best ever, so juicy and I cut it with a fork. The ribs were good but I'm not much of a rib chick anyway. The sides were typical BBQ fare. Potato salad was just okay, which is fine because the meat totally made up for it. I'll never find potato salad as good as my own! My husband had the banana pudding for dessert. I could only spare two bites but it has inspired me to figure out the recipe. We loaded up two to-go boxes and left happy! Nice staff and clean restaurant. Please check out Old 300 next time you venture up to Blanco. It's dazzling! read more

I've enjoyed everything I've had, but always have to stay away from spending to much here, which is a hard! BBQ is always a hiring price food, so I don't seem to get it much when eating out, but some days you gotta satisfy a craving! The chopped brisket is a favorite, and I always enjoy adding the pickled onions, which are self serve! And made like perfect! But if I could recommend anything from here, it's definitely the Jim Raby BBQ quesadilla! It's outstanding! I'm not one to crave a specific meal, but this is one I do! I couldn't break down what all is in it, but I can tell you it is well worth the cost and even though it's large, if you don't eat it all the leftovers are just as darn good!
