My husband likes Old 300, any time he goes to the restaurant he gets an El Jefe, and is very pleased with it. To be fair, his experience is a good one. Yesterday I told him, sure if you're getting something for yourself for tomorrow, get me a baked potato. Today I go to warm it up for my lunch--the potato is massive, but the amount of chopped meat included was barely 1/3 of a cup. And a scant couple of tablespoons of shredded cheese. Seriously, that size potato needs more toppings. I could have done better at Smoky Moe's on the corner here in Cedar Park, saved the drive to Blanco. So, next time he is hankering for some Old 300, he's on his own. read more

The beans, were mediocre... The potato salad was good. However, bbq places should not be judged on their sides (maybe a small percentage of the overall score) They should be judged on their meat. The Brisket, primo.... The pork ribs, fall off the bone delicious. I visited 300 in the middle of the afternoon, expecting lukewarm, reheated roadside bbq. Instead I was entirely, and amazingly surprised. As an avid brisket smoker myself, the Brisket was delicious. It is clearly evident the brisket is of high caliber, and honestly, in my opinion, on par with Franklin in Austin, or other top establishments in Texas. The pork ribs were fall off the bone, perfectly rubbed, and can only be described as delicious. The sauces were good, and with your fair share of bread, and onions, the mediocre beans are more than made up for. The smoked cheesecake was amazing. However, I couldn't taste the "smoked" flavor, but nonetheless an all around winner. Would highly recommend and revisit. read more

This is my favorite bbq anywhere. I've lived near Blanco for over a year, and everyone I know in the area agrees -- it is outstanding. I take my visiting friends and recommend tourists. Their brisket is my favorite, but I also strongly recommend their ribs, jalapeño sausage, and turkey. The environment is artistically country western (which very appropriate, given the name Old 300). They also have an awesome dancehall in the back, "the Back 40," which hosts wedding stuff and parties. Going to hear the band or dance -- every second and fourth Saturday of every month -- is one the best things to do in the area. read more

Barbecue was average at best. Good cuts of meat, but not seasoned well. Place was friendly and casual. Biggest issue for me was that I went to the bathroom and after went to wash my hands and there was no soap. I asked the lady behind the counter, who told me they were out. I told her that was gross. I reminded her that this is a restaurant. She said they haven't had time to go to the store. Seriously. I responded again with, you are a restaurant and that is disgusting. About 2 minutes later, she came back with a hand soap pump and said "look what I found." My hope is they were keeping that for staff in the kitchen, but still - patrons have been going to the bathroom without the ability to wash their hands for who knows how long and then touching the barbecue sauce and bean ladles . . . Just moved here and looking for local restaurants to eat at. They were out of brisket, chicken, potatoes, corn, quesadillas. Th grilled cheese they did have was just average and the chopped beef tasted like something I would buy from the grocery store. Big waste of time and money. read more

Great BBQ in Blanco! Went with a large party and they were very accommodating. Really enjoyed the two different BBQ sauces-- they each complimented the food deliciously. In my opinion, the only thing keeping this place from five stars was the brisket, which was a little disappointing. read more

Stopped in after craving BBQ on our way home to Austin from San Antonio... IT WAS FANTASTIC! I've tried all of the classic BBQ joints, from coopers to market street, and I dare say this was my favorite!! I just wish it was closer because I would eat there daily. I tried the brisket, of course, and had the creamed corn on the side. I can't vouch for any of their other food, but brisket is all you need in life anyway. I have an amazing time at the old 300! The staff was friendly/welcoming and the facilities were very clean. I thoroughly enjoyed the food - my favorite was the brisket and the spicy sausage (I don't think I've had a better spicy sausage in Texas ). Ladd, the chef, may have served Obama at his inaugural but apparently Obama does not crave excellent Texas BBQ. Ribs were tough and dry, brisket was the same. Sausage was greasy. Old 300 hosted the Central Hill Country Board of REALTORS and the members LOVED it all. In the Back 40 room, had a wonderful buffet and the staff was so helpful and friendly. Old 300 BBQ is wonderful! I had the chopped brisket sandwich with fried okra. I ate 1/2 of the sandwich and took the rest home. I then had 2 more meals off of my leftovers! First trip to Blanco, TX. Stopped at Old 300 BBQ for some good BBQ. The BBG was more than just good - it was FANTASTIC. The brisket was moist and tender, the ribs were meaty and delicious and the chicken was the best we ever had. The seasonings they use are perfect and everything was smoked "Just right." Try the "Spicy" BBQ sauce - excellent. Be sure to get some coleslaw, crisp, creamy and fresh. Cannot recommend this BBQ highly enough.....should be at least eight stars. Discovered Old 300 in Blanco on the way home to Austin from San Antonio yesterday. Initially planned on stopping at Salt Lick, however, we are extremely delighted that we seized an opportunity to try out a new place. Take out service was outstanding, friendly, and very accommodating. The brisket was tender, most, and absolutely delicious. Sides were just right, as was the banana pudding. We would have liked to have tried the cheesecake...always a next time! To top off the great service, when the staff heard that we had just been in San Antonio attending the naturalization ceremony, and were freshly minted Americans, they threw in a free bottle of their sauce! I ordered the 1/2 chicken with 2 sides, coleslaw and pinto beans. The pinto beans are $2.50 all you can eat, which is a great deal. What else is available are pickles, 2 kinds of onions, white bread and bbq sauce, take as much as you want. The chicken was pretty juicy. The food came out immediately. Stopped here on the way to San Antonio. Didn't know what to think because you walk in and it doesn't feel like a typical BBQ joint. Staff was friendly and helpful. I ordered the Jim Raby Quesadilla which was filled with chicken, chopped brisket, and sliced brisket. My wife ordered a smoked turkey sandwich. Both were great. Took my 87 year old dad...I had been bragging about the brisket my daughter and I had 4 months earlier...melt in your mouth, delish. I forgot to say "moist" when I ordered and the brisket was all "lean" that I got. The cashier did not ask my preference and I forgot to request. I asked her later what determined the meat I received and she said "cutter's choice". It was a horrible 1.5 hour drive from San Antonio due to traffic and I was not with it after that drive, expectations were through the roof. I would give it a 5 if I had ordered moist, but it was very lean and dry and thinly sliced; good flavor, though. I also got talked into the "all you could eat beans" by the cashier instead of a pint because it was a "better deal". I didn't understand what she meant, but a line was forming behind me. Basically, my dad paid 7.50 for "endless" beans instead of 4.75 for a pint...it is a good deal if you are a bean fanatic, maybe. Half way thru our disappointing meal, I ordered another 1/4 pound of "moist" brisket for my dad to taste, he liked it and said it tasted better and different than our original order. Our original brisket was room temp but the moist was warm. We went at 3pm on a Friday, maybe we got the left over lunch crowd meat. The barbecue sauce was ice cold too, like straight out of the frig...pretty mad at myself. Over 50 dollars spent, but we drove home and I bought some tasty desserts at La Madeleine...oh, well...worth a try, if you ask for moist. read more

As we all know, Central Texas takes their Barbeque very seriously, so what a great suprise to find great Texas BBQ West of Austin, instead of going East towards Lockhart! The brisket was fantastic, and probably the favorite of the group we had who stopped there. Second was the chicken, which was really moist. Sauce was outstanding (even though we like dry rub) and we bought a bottle to take with us. Also impressed with the attention to detail on their sides. What a place. The people that work there are so nice and down to earth. The brisket was probably the best brisket I've had in Texas. Ribs were incredible too - put the spicy bbq sauce on them and you are good to go for days. Jalapeño-cheese poppers were also the best side dish I have ever had a a BBQ joint. The atmosphere is what really blew me away though. It's an assuming place, but feels authentically Texas without being a caricature of a cowboy walking around with spurs and a 10-gallon hat yelling yee-haw. The country western band was great, the paintings were tasteful, and the party bus outside with the longhorns on it was just the coolest. Just go to this place, unless you don't enjoy good food and good people. read more

Tipping policy sucks. When you pay at the counter (no waitress) The screen that shows the charges right in front of you plainly asks for a huge tip while you are paying for your meal. Very awkward since you are eye to eye with this person who is wanting to extract as many dollars from you as possible. This was for a simple take out order of $100. They wanted $25 or more just to hand me the box. I refused and got a withering look for my trouble. NO WAY! Food was OK but will not go back!! read more

Mah only if your starving , this place is not horrible , but not great , while on a road trip the wife , at 230 she told me that we needed to hurry as they wanted to close , it was 4th of July weekend , with thousands of people on the road ? Stacked up hungry going home and they want to close , we stopped Order was not filled 25 minutes later , out came the wife , it was just barely ok , 0 smoke , grey , tasteless , loads of fat , not what I was expecting , carry over to next day wife had us eat it for dinner , it was flat tasting , even almost boiled tasting ? I have eaten worse but never in our area ! This pit master is tooting his own horn !! My girlfriend and I were in town on an anniversary weekend and heard this place was a must. When I first looked at the menu I was amazed how great the sandwiches and how much food you get. I got the Willie Nelson which I subbed smoked Turkey because they were out of sausage (we got there kinda late) and my girlfriend got the Chuck Norris (again subbed the turkey for sausage. Both were so amazing and even better with turkey I think, and we both easily were able to have two meals out of our sandwiches. Also get the cream corn it was definitely worth it. The best part though was the amazing service we received from everyone working there, being extremely friendly which was even more impressive from a BBQ restaurant that had sold out of some meats already and had to deal with people not being able to get their first choice. I would definitely go if I am ever near Blanco again read more
