Gotta give this place credit. Was in Bulverde and always looking for local BBQ places. Read Yelp reviews which were mediocre but I gave it a chance anyway. I went with El Jefe and it was great. Huge sandwich with 1/2 lb angus brisket and 1/4 lb jap sausage. While I like a bit more bark and deeper smoke flavor...the sandwich was still very, very good. I went to visit friend at rehab center yesterday and invite her to eat out at the Old 300 BBQ. I was shocked after I open the sandwich beef brisket. My friend order sandwich with lean meat beef brisket sandwich. She fat half of it. The meat was dried like over cook. We all are senior. It is not healthy for to have all fat like that. When we talked . They were unprofessional said why don't you tell them lean meat with trim fat out. And showed attitude that we bother them. The food I was over cook, bad attitude of services. Nice place. Classic rural Texas BBQ joint with local Real Ale beer on draft. Jalapeño sausage was great. The brisket was a bit on the dry side. I did ask for the flat. This place was delicious! We loved the turkey and the BBQ was amazing. It wasn't spicy for the kids when we got the original. Food was super fast. The pinto beans are all you can eat as well. My non meat eating son got the grilled cheese that he didn't really enjoy but other then that everyone loved it. This place is a hidden gem in the town. Never had it, they were BIG, but the staff brought us extras claiming they were on the small side. I got full on one and took the other home. Ate that bastard later that night with a spoon! My friend and I just ate there 10 minutes ago as we were driving from San Antonio to Austin. I ordered the "Chuck Norris" and he ordered the "El Jeffe". Great place. Was driving thru town and saw in the center strip. Old style country set up with the menu items written on a chalk board. Super personal and behind counter, grilled cutting brisket. Ordered the brisket (1/3) sandwich, potato salad, cream of corn and sweet tea. Then stopped by the sauce bar and filled up on sweet bbq sauce, pickled onions and pickles. Once I date down the food was great, brisket flavorful, moist and tender. The potato salad was a mustard base and delicious with thick cut pieces. The cream of corn was alright, nothing stood out. This place is awesome! I have been twice. Had a brisket sandwich and fries 2x. The sausage looked good but I didn't get it. The fries were crispy and seasoned nicely. The pickles and onions are worth mentioning. The pickles are like Clausen pickle. The onions are soaked in a vinegar and oil sauce. I loved the onions! Overpriced for less than mediocre food. I had a brisket sandwich and creamed corn. My husband had a brisket plate with potato salad and bown beans. The brisket was terribly tough! And it was DRY!!! I have had better brisket at the local chain bbq joint. The creamed corn was the best thing I had. The beans were passable and the potato salad pretty good - close to Witte's in LaVernia. Unfortunately, for us, the sauces were not memorable. The sweet was passable and actually preferable to the spicy. We love spicy bbq sauce (I detest a lot of tomatoey flavor or too much sugar in my bbq sauce!). The spicy seems to be the sweet sauce with some odd type of pepper juice added. I was not a fan. I was very impressed with the perfectly toasted bun on the brisket sandwich. The tea was also good. The decor was interesting, the restaurant was comfortable and the staff was nice. However we came for good food. It wouldnt be so aggravating paying $15+ per pound for brisket, $8 for a brisket sandwich, plus sides and two teas if the food had been great!! Husband and I ate at Old 300 BBQ in Blanco, Tx this evening. We had lean brisket and regular (not spicy) sausage. Our order was to go and we didn't get any sides (but the bread pudding looked killer). You order at the counter and they call your name when it's ready. We were there about 5:00 (Friday) and there were several diners, inside and outside, but no line. Two other couples were waiting for their to-go order. The order taker was super polite. It took about 10 minutes for the order to come up. The brisket was super! Great flavor, a little bark, smokey and very tender . The sausage was very good. I had ordered a whole link and it was cut into 2" pieces. I usually prefer the link to be whole. So when we return, I'll make sure they don't slice it. Condiments like sauce, pickles, onions, bread, etc were in the service area. We will definitely return and get a larger order of brisket and some bread pudding!! read more
