Yummy classic pub food at the bottom / connect to donner slopes. The service is relaxed and a place to stay for a while. Food is quick and hot one you are able to place your order. Fish and chips aren't the classic ones I get at a seafood restaurant but they're comparable to taste and crisp. Very cute local dogs that frequent the pub too!

Super friendly service, fast, lots of options. Good parking, will come back- they have fresh pies.

We were with a group of about 14 fellow classic Datsun owners on a fun run from the Sacramento area. We decided to stop at Donner Ski Ranch for lunch because there would be plenty of parking. I'm not sure what was communicated to the hostess as the front of the group entered, but we weren't seated together. Everyone was split up between the outside and inside tables. The waitress had no problem splitting the check for us and the two other Datsun owners at our table. The menu tends toward fried foods. I ordered the "Gourmet Grilled Cheese" sandwich. What a disappointment. It was barely cooked, the cheese was one slice of cheddar and one slice of Swiss. Not melted at all. A couple of chunks of avocado and two slices of tomato (one on each half) made up the "Gourmet" aspect, I guess. I ordered fries as my side. The fries were a generous portion but very very salty. My husband's DSR Burger was OK, per his evaluation. He too ordered the fries, and while he generally likes salty foods, he too found the fries too salty. The bathrooms are in dire need of repair. The toilets worked but the paper holders were hanging open because the duct tape used to close them had worn out. The sink facets were loose. At least the bathroom appeared clean. As a meeting place for a group on a long ride, this place was sufficient, but I'll not be returning here on my own.

Went on a hike through the abandoned railroad tunnels and stopped here afterwards. It was busy but the service was excellent and we were helped right away. Ordered at the bar. The pizza was yummy and had lots of cheese. Tried a slice of pie too. Delicious!!! Definitely a nice local spot.

This place was awesome, stopped by for a quick bite after skiing. Ordered way more food than we could eat but had leftovers. The staff was really friendly and accommodating. The food was really good, lots of flavor, fresh, and great portion sizes. I wish I had a highlight but out of everything we ordered everything hit the spot! I would 1000% suggest coming here, you can even watch folks ski out of the window while you grab a bite!

Definitely a huge miss trying this grill out :( was excited to try it based on the good reviews but we will not be going back. The food was very bland & the pie was so salty we could only eat one bite. Not to mention a slice of pie is $11!!! Crazy that they are charging that much for this food. My husband and I tried the turkey patty melt which only tasted like butter & their garlic fries did not taste like garlic and were extremely oily. We also didn't realize until after we placed the order that the pickup for the food was located behind the bar counter which was filled with insanely drunk people who were yelling the f*** word repeatedly so loudly that we could barely hear the waitress who was helping us cash out. The ambiance is really overwhelming and you can tell this grill mostly only cares about their drunk customers who are buying their alcohol since the food is seriously lacking to a sober person.

My family and I decided to quickly stop here for lunch. This place was located near the Sugar Bowl ski resort; and it was also an area where my nephews had their first skiing experience. They had a kids menu which was located at the back of the menu. The kids ordered corn dogs with a side of fries. There were a number of selections to choose from. I decided go with the French Dip because I've never had it before, with a side of garden salad. The sandwich and the dip was very good. The salad was very generous and I was already fill from half of the sandwich and all of the salad. The service was good and the staff were friendly. Will definitely come back here again for lunch.

My California breakfast sandwich was excellent! My hash browns were half cooked. The view from the deck was pretty!

We had a surprisingly good breakfast with a great vibe, excellent tunes, and sweet service!

Went hiking at the Tunnels and stumbled upon this place! It is charming! Very rustic and old school! Open all year long! Staff was lovely and food was great! If you are in the area definitely stop by for a beer and some food! They have fresh baked pies daily (I'm not much of a desert fan so I didn't order). Ok correction... My family did get pie :) They said it was delicious!

We ate here a couple of weeks ago after walking through the Donner Tunnels. Located at the Donner Ski Ranch this place is full of old 1980s ski lodge atmosphere. It's rusticly funky and just super cute. Very casual. You can eat inside at the tables, inside in the bar area, or outside on the deck. It's located right across the street from the easiest Donner Tunnel entrance (as opposed to hiking up the mountain from the east side). Anyway, 4th time's a charm for me and we finally parked at the proper spot. The point is, this place is popular with tunnel hikers as well as more serious hikers coming off the Tahoe Rim Trail. Accommodating to all. The food (and beer) is super delicious and the staff was helpful and friendly. I highly recommend it. 2021 Summer Note: Donner Pass Rd was completely closed for construction on the east side of the summit so you'll need to access from the west side (I think it's I-80 exit 174). That side is also under construction and reduced to 1 lane travel with a pilot car, but you can actually get up to the summit that way.

But the quality of the food compared to prior years has definitely dropped off. They changed up the paninis/grilled sandwiches which used to always be winners. Bread was stale, one side was overly toasted, the other soggy and disintegrating like it had been sitting under a heat lamp. Fries here used to delectable. Now? Stale, either over or under seasoned depending on the fry, and tasted like they had been cooked an hour ago. Hopefully still great for watching games (note to Bay Area kids, this is a "Kings Bar"). Sadly, we may scrap convenience when staying at the hotel and head over to Donner just up the road for aprés ski. Shame, such a difference from prior years where we ate here once a week through the winter season. I will say, the service was as friendly and accommodating as ever, but not much they can do about the kitchen/menu.

My fiancé and I were celebrating our ENGAGEMENT with a party of 9. We had been looking forward to this place for SO long and were so excited to spend an entire evening here. For VERY important context, both my fiancé and I were restaurant and bar managers for several years. Neither of us have ever raised our voice at anybody working at a restaurant, bar, etc. We are literally an entire crew of service workers or former service workers who are very respectful of the entire industry and its practices. When we walked up, the older blonde woman working the front was extremely hostile and rude from the jump. I was trying to ask questions about the venue, food options, etc before we went in, and she began barking at us for IDs immediately. Not a single hi, welcome in, etc. Just immediately aggressive. My fiancé, who is 27, gave her his Oregon ID. Considering this state is literally a few hours away, you would think they are fairly familiar with this ID, but apparently not! She began aggressively and repeatedly bending the ID to the point we sincerely thought it was going to snap it in half. Despite it being obviously real after looking at it under a light (Oregon has very specific and complicated patterns, it's widely known as the hardest ID to make a fake of), she said she didn't believe that it was real. We were a bit baffled, and insisted it definitely was. She asked my partner what his zip code was, and because we had just moved, he gave her our current zip before realizing she meant the one on his ID. She laughed and said "nope, i'm keeping this! This is a fake". She said because he said the zip code wrong, she wasn't going to give it back. At this point I got angry. I told her that 1. It is 1000% a real ID and 2. It is completely illegal to hold somebody's ID hostage. Her and her coworker got really defensive and told me to "just calm down" despite her continuously bending it and laughing. She kept saying "I'm allowed to keep it if it's fake" which it WASNT. It is completely illegal what she was doing. This is THEFT OF PROPERTY, so I was absolutely not going to calm down. My fiancé called his parents to hopefully get a photo of his passport to diffuse the situation. The older woman who was holding us hostage demanded to TAKE HIS PHONE and speak to his mom. She then grabbed it and walked all the way down the sidewalk, spinning around and giggling. It was one of the most bizarre things I had ever witnessed, and frankly, we believe she was intoxicated. Her coworkers looked incredibly embarrassed and wouldn't even make eye contact with us. She finally came back and we took the ID and phone back from her. She never once apologized for stealing our property, almost breaking it, and falsely accusing us of committing a crime. Not even an inkling of remorse. Just giggling. I told her how absolutely unprofessional and illegal everything she just did was. Luckily, we have legal resources that we will absolutely be exploring this week, because no patron deserves to be held hostage, have their property stolen, and not even receive an apology. Not only did RMU tarnish what was supposed to be one of the happiest nights of our lives, they lost out on thousands of dollars (that we spent elsewhere that night) from our party because their hostess had a major power trip. To make matters even worse, we had other folks join up with us later that night who also stopped by RMU and had equally unpleasant experiences. They all said that the same rude hostess was bending the ever loving life out of their IDs and being incredibly snarky.

The duck fat fries were good, but I'd prefer them without the smathering of garlic, because it masks the duck fat flavor. They are pretty pricey for the casual ambience and plating, but their happy hour specials make it worthwhile. If you happen to catch them on a Sunday, they have solid burger deals as well. Don't bother with the fried chicken sandwich, the center came undercooked and the fry was slightly soggy, so not worth it.

The quality of the food, and the care that used to go into preparing and presenting it, has completely fallen off a cliff. During my most recent visit this week I noticed that much of the kitchen staff seemed to be different from the team I've seen over the past few years. The pizza was genuinely disappointing. The crust lacked flavor, the toppings were sparse and it felt like something that had been rushed out of the kitchen with little attention to detail. Even the presentation was careless, which was surprising because this restaurant used to take pride in what they served. It's frustrating to see a place that I used to recommend decline this much. I really hope the upper management takes a look at what's happening to the restaurant because the Old Town Tap I used to enjoy no longer seems to exist.
