I recently went to Truckee and tried Old Town Tap. We got there and found spots at the bar really fast. They were playing one of the soccer games on the TVs, which was fun to watch. They have both indoor and outdoor seating, and it's actually pretty spacious inside. We did have to wait a little bit to get a menu, but once we got one, we ordered our drinks and food. We got the Margherita pizza, and it was SO good! I loved how crispy the crust was. When you picked up a slice, it didn't just flop over. It stayed nice and crispy. It had so much flavor, and I was seriously so happy with it. I also got the Help Wanted drink, and it was really good too. I think I found my new favorite pizza spot! If you're ever in the area, I definitely recommend stopping by. I'm already planning to go back so I can try more of their pizzas and appetizers! read more

Old Town Tap used to be one of my favorite places to stop whenever I was in Truckee, but the last two visits have been a disappointment. The quality of the food, and the care that used to go into preparing and presenting it, has completely fallen off a cliff. During my most recent visit this week I noticed that much of the kitchen staff seemed to be different from the team I've seen over the past few years. The pizza was genuinely disappointing. The crust lacked flavor, the toppings were sparse and it felt like something that had been rushed out of the kitchen with little attention to detail. Even the presentation was careless, which was surprising because this restaurant used to take pride in what they served. It's frustrating to see a place that I used to recommend decline this much. I really hope the upper management takes a look at what's happening to the restaurant because the Old Town Tap I used to enjoy no longer seems to exist. read more

If I recall, parking is free after 6pm, which is when we went. Fast and friendly service! All their food items are meant to be shared. We got 4 items split between 4 adults and it was enough. Not stuffed by any means, but definitely weren't hungry after. Curds, brusselsprouts, sausage and kale mac, and meatball pizza. Other than the brusselsprouts, which were too large so that the middle of them had no flavor, the rest was bomb. Loved the other dishes so much! read more

We arrived just a little past lunch time, around 2:30pm on a Wednesday. There were a few diners and someone waiting for their pizza takeout. We were seated at a booth in the middle of the spacious restaurant but decided on another for more privacy. We were given a bottle of water and glasses without prompting. Looks like they repurpose liquor bottles for this purpose and I like that very much! We decided on Fried Cheese Curds, Pork and Padron Pizza, and Los Olivos Pizza. They all came out quick. The cheese curds were delicious! Crispy outside and chewy inside, sweet and salty, and the dipping sauce was so tasty we asked for another. We enjoyed both pizzas too, with their flat dough. We were hungry so this hit the spot for us. We weren't able to finish all tho so we brought some leftovers back, which tasted fine cold for dinner! Staff were attentive and friendly. Mushroom pizza is our go to favorite that I would recommend to meat eaters and vegetarians alike!

Stopped by for a quick lunch. We ordered 2 pizzas, 1 bone marrow and that was plenty of food for the 5 of us. Both pizzas were great, the mushroom pizza with truffle oil-yum! The pork belly pizza with bacon and other cured meats with crushed pepper flakes and honey might be a bit too spicy for some, but if you like spicy food, definitely try this one. The honey really balances out the spiciness from the peppers. Service was efficient, the place is cozy. If I'm in Truckee, I'd come back again for sure. read more

The quality of the food and drink at Old Town Tap is outstanding. They make pizza that they bake in a Neapolitan style wood oven, and the quality of the operation is apparent in the product. The crust is almost cracker thin and crisp, the toppings are made from the best versions of local produce and meats. But it doesn't stop there: they have a fantastic Caesar salad (made with fresh romaine and radicchio) that is lightly dressed with a creamy dressing (that has a wonderful hint of a bite of raw garlic) and topped with a dusting of breadcrumbs and Parmesan. They serve roasted bone marrow, accompanied by a complete set of cornichons, mustard, and a caper jelly (as well as some arugula). Their Mac and cheese has a decadent béchamel sauce, and uses large shell pasta to absorb the rich cheeseiness of the dish. What's more, they offer high end soft serve ice cream with really nice toppings like cocoa nibs or hot fudge (very similar to the dessert offering at Zero Zero in SF) which is just delightful to have. Chain control for those Tahoe bound seemed to be a hit or miss this past winter. Even though you may be traveling through on a sunny day, if it's right after a storm, chain control may not lift over the summit until late afternoon. A normal 4 hours from the Bay Area can easily become over 9 hours like it was for us. I haven't stopped at Truckee for 30 years, but it was such a nice break for a late lunch at Old Town Tap. Sausage and kale Mac n cheese and mushroom pizza being pulled from the oven I had a view of from our table were both excellent and was the warming comfort food I needed before continuing the trek. read more

This place gets busy as one of the most popular places in Downtown Truckee. My son wanted pizza so we came here, not realizing it wouldn't have the standard pizzas he usually prefers. He asked for olives so we ended up with the Los Olivos, which came with kalamata, Spanish olives, goat cheese, roasted garlic, mozzarella and lemon zest. I asked for pancetta too. I was shocked when he ate two slices and even said afterwards, "that pizza was really yummy." Guess this kid is more of a foodie than I realized. I came here with girlfriends for a friends birthday lunch. To start, we got the cheese and charcuterie board with flatbread. For $33, it seemed rather sparse- a huge board with not a ton on it. We each got drinks- the margaritas were enjoyable, and I got a glass of wine. For entrees, we split a pizza, another got Mac and cheese and I got the kale salad. I should've read the salad description better because the dressing was really spicy! I didn't recall reading about anything spicy but later saw that it said a shisito vinaigrette. The dressing ruined it in my opinion, if I ordered again, I'd ask for a different dressing. Service was average. Food was well prepared and came out quickly. Service was friendly and hospitable. Pricey. Great ambiance, with a modern/ upscale feel, lots of young adults, families. I personally didn't enjoy the flavor combos -- like the smokey beet salad, oddly too smokey and hiding the naturally delicious beet vibe, the brussel sprouts, while well prepared, the sauce that went with it seemed heavy and mis-matched to the dish, a creamy/ spicy heavy dipping sauce. The mushroom pizza was really, uhhhh, mushroomy-- a little too much, and I love mushrooms! We may have picked the wrong menu items, but it was disappointing, especially for the price. Our waitress was awesome. Food ok. Under mew ownership and the new owners changed the menu not for the better. Took away the meat charcuterie board, really bad news. Now there is only a cheese board for $18 and it was pitiful. A tsp of honey and tsp of jam. A couple ok cheeses and some toasted flatbread. 4 slices of pear and 4 slices of strawberry. Not even a whole strawberry. Mac n cheese was mediocre as well. Not much too it and bland. Only reason to go is the pizza. Its good but nothing to brag about. Everything was overpriced. We miss the old owners. Typical meal in truckee though. Pay a lot and leave hungry. Morning update. We were told the pizza flour was not enriched and it was real flour, my wife is allergic. We loved Old Town Tap! The pizza, cheese curds and drinks were all amazing! I think our only issue was we wish the pizza had been a little bit bigger. For two people it was small, but we had cheese curds too so it worked out. We also would have appreciated more pizza options/variations. Or maybe a create your own option. I like the small details like the sauce with the cheese curds was delicious, and my server made my drinks perfectly strong and complex. I am often dissatisfied with the strength or flavor of craft cocktails but I had two and they did not disappoint. What I appreciated the most was the freshness of the sauce. It tasted like tomato sauce I had in Italy, not super acidic, and full of flavor. That alone makes me want to come back. They make some good pizza sauce! It's this kind of customer service and feel like your family that makes a restaurant iconic. To also make a restaurant Iconic is the taste and texture of their food. They have an insane sourdough bread recipe that they put on their pizzas is off the chain. Pizza is competition grade world MainStage worthy. I got the Margarita and added double topping pepperoni. A1 taste and texture. I eat at 100s of restaurants and I'm a food retard. I only review restaurants that aren insanely good or restaurants that I want to burn down. They sat us and a server didn't come by for even a drink order for about 15 minutes. And when she did, she took the order of the couple that sat down next to us about 10 minutes after we sat. This kind of thing is pretty inexcusable. Get your act together, management. Salad was good. It was a salad. Mushroom pizza could have been good. Flavor and ingredients were there. Dough/crust was good and not doughy or spongy. But each slice was about 2/3 crust. The first bite or two had cheese and mushrooms then the remaining 3-4 bites were the crust. Maybe ours was an anomaly. Neighbor table' pie looked better. Bad first impression especially after getting ignored on initial service for so long. Would not recommend the meatballs shareable. Was just plain bad. Had no business being on the menu. It came to the table in a ripping hot cast iron, the meatballs placed neatly on top of a literal mountain of polenta (Why so much polenta?). The meatballs themselves were cold. How! Were they frozen or refrigerated prior? Would fully expect meatballs to be made fresh. Besides being strangely cold atop a ripping hot skillet, they were hard and kind of dry with burn marks on them. The mountain of polenta was watery in places and a little runny pudding-like towards the center. Pizza was serviceable, could see eating it again. Ambiance was good. Probably won't be back. I strolled on into this place hungrier than ever before, we skied the beautiful slopes of the mountain Lake Tahoe and were in the craving for a fantastic slice of fresh pizza Upon our arrival we were greeted by a lovely host and a great server! My significant other and I grazed over the menu and to our surprise, there were some unique pizza combinations so we thought we'd give one a try. White liquid piled up from the middle pooling at the center of our pie. When I picked up my slice it drooped from the center down resembling the shape of a sad labradors tail while spilling a white watery liquid sauce like substance with minimal flavor. Overall i was extremely sad about my order and decided to share a slice of the meatball pie that my son Arthur had ordered. My eyes lit up like the flames of the Olympics at the great flavor and texture of this pie! I stayed and enjoyed my alcoholic beverage while always consuming responsibly. Monthly trip to Truckee. We wanted outdoor seating for the doggo. Nice slightly overcast day so cooler than normal. Nice server who brought water and a soda quickly. Ordered a mushroom pizza and basic salad to share. Mediocre at best. Salad was served in such large pieces we had to use a knife and fork to eat. Weird dressing that neither of us could identify although the menu said ranch? Nice assortment of mushrooms on the pizza but it was very bland. So bland we had to ask for salt. I hope this serves more as a way for management to improve customer service, rather than to scold the employee. My family and I arrived around 4 pm on a Thursday. We were coming from Los Angeles, it was an 8-hour drive so we were looking forward to a sit-down dinner. Everything started fine, we ordered our food and drinks. But we noticed that our waitress Kellie was rushing us throughout our dinner. We were charged for a bird in a cage drink but it was never brought to us until we brought that up to her attention. We wanted to order more items from the menu after she brought us the bill without asking us if we were done. She didn't check on us at any time and we had to wave her down a couple of times. We were thrown off by her demeanor. At first, I wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt and I thought maybe her shift was ending and she wanted to close tabs for all her tables but that wasn't the case. I hope that this doesn't discourage anyone from dining here because our food was great but it's just an experience I hope was only a one-time thing. We started with a sharable plate, of fried Brussels sprouts which were full of flavor and perfectly braised. We also ordered pepperoni, margarita, mushroom, and pork thin pizzas. Came here one hour before they closed, ordered 2 pizzas, caesar salad, and cheese curd. Cheese curd was very tasty and gooey, caesar salad was the highlight of the show, honestly! I love that salad. Very crunchy, refreshing, and the chicken was so juicy too. The pizzas on the other hand, is not so impressive. we ordered the pork and padron, as well as margherita. They told us that they ran out of pork belly so they asked if they want us to have more guanciale, to which I said yes. However, the pizza ended up tasting like smelly pork... it was kinda sad but is not really a deal breaker for me. The margherita was fine, but at this point I have already been so full and happy so we ended up packing the pizza. We also ordered a couple of beers and one ice cream with chocolate sauce. Heart is broken. My server was great, so kind and sweet, but ever since these new owners took over everything has gone down hill. They seem to be changing everything that makes Old Town Tap, Old Town Tap. Been coming here for years, it has been my family and I's favorite spot. The menu no longer has our favorite items, it seems like the owners don't care about quality, but making the most $$$. My food came out wrong, and the table next to ours food came out wrong, too. And it took 30 minutes for our cocktails. They always have seemed a little understaffed but now they seem EXTREMELY understaffed. And they've been firing people left and right who we love? Also the bathrooms look like a hospital room bathroom mixed with a child's bathroom. I hear it's some Bay area investors who know nothing about restaurants. If it ain't broke don't try to fix it!!! You're making things worse. And it's clear to everyone who comes in. "New Town Tap" is what I keep hearing around town. and not in a good way. Go back to the Bay. read more
