Nice ambience. Very friendly staff. Not too crowded. Some excellent dishes on the menu, and fun mocktails.

The food is awesome, but the service is ridiculously slow even when no one is there. Food is definitely 5 stars though.

Best burger in the area…read more It tastes just as good as it looks! Super juicy and flavorful, cooked to order and somehow the bun is sturdy enough not to fall apart when eating, which is rare to find in the juicy big burger business Definitely worth a trip out to beautiful Donner lake on old hwy 40, if not just for this burger

I called this business today because my Chase Business credit card showed an unfamiliar transaction…read moreassociated with their merchant descriptor. I was simply trying to determine whether the charge was legitimate. I first spoke with a very pleasant employee who explained they were busy because of the weekend, took my information, and said someone would most likely call me back early next week. I also contacted Chase to report the $845.61 transaction as unfamiliar and asked them to investigate. About two hours later, at approximately 9:45 PM, I received a call from the owner, Brian, while my 6-year-old daughter was next to me as I was reading her bedtime story. Instead of asking questions or trying to understand why I was calling, he immediately accused me of being a scammer and told me that "you and your family should die a horrible death." I was shocked by the hostility. My daughter asked me what the man meant by wishing us to die and it took me a moment to come together to senses what to say to her about it.. I understand that business owners receive scam calls and can be cautious. I get them all the time and some times it gets annoying. However, there is no excuse for speaking to another person that way. I immediately called back, left a calm voicemail and gave him the opportunity to return my call to apologize. I never received a response. I want to be clear that I do not know whether the unfamiliar charge was caused by this business, their payment processor, or something else. Chase is investigating that separately. My review is based solely on how I was treated during that phone call. Ironically, my father and I actually stopped at this pub on that day of June 5. We looked at the menu, decided not to eat there because of the high cost menu prices, and instead had a great lunch at Burger Me in downtown Truckee and even took a selfie with food as it was delishious (tuna burger was incredible - highly recommend). After reading other reviews mentioning similar interactions, I hope the owner reflects on how customers are treated. As a husband, father of three, and a nearby property owner, I expected far better professionalism. I have written over 100 Yelp reviews over the years, and the vast majority have been 5-star reviews because I enjoy recognizing businesses that provide excellent service. Unfortunately, this is one of the very few times I've felt compelled to leave a 1-star review. I do not like to leave poor reviews and I sincerely hope the owner reflects on how customers are treated and chooses to do better in the future.

Since when do I not want change? But then I realized she was asking for a tip. It offended me. I wasn't eating in, I wasn't being served. I was simply paying for my order to take home. You've got a lot of nerve asking that question. I told her fine, keep it. I won't be back. You get paid to take orders and bring then to the front. Tipping is when you serve a table. Somehow it got to where everyone wants a tip now, and it's annoying. I went to Jiffy Lube for an oil change, and they too asked for a tip. That dog don't hunt. I won't go back there either. Seems you should be thankful we gave you our business. Everyone is tired of it. Pretty soon people will stop tipping altogether if you keep abusing our gratuitous nature. Watch and see. I'm not the only one that's fed up.

Let's talk about the most important part - the food! My friend and I had Zucchini Sticks, Fish &…read moreChips, Tri-Tip & Mash Special, and Margaritas. It was THE BEST Tri-Tip I've ever had; cooked to perfection, with a tasty (I think) red wine reduction sauce. Not sure if this is served daily, because I couldn't find it on their regular menu. We were there on a Saturday. I do see on the menu that they have a tri-tip salad, and am betting it would be equally delicious. The fried foods were cooked perfectly too, the breading was light and airy, and they weren't overly oily. I've had far too many meals at restaurants where the chefs neglect to change the oil frequently enough. You could tell that this place used good quality, fresh oil. The drinks were a bit pricey; around $12 per shot or drink. The bar atmosphere is fun; there's unique stickers and dollar-bill artwork scattered around. The staff is down-to-earth and friendly. The food was very reasonable though. Considering 1 nasty fast-food burger now costs $10, I didn't mind paying $24 for the Tri-Tip that came with mashed potatoes and veggies; plus the leftovers fed me again the next day. Don't judge a book by it's cover - this restaurant is situated on tall wooden stilts (probably because of deep winter snow), and it looks a bit shabby. I can only imagine how the snow and wind take their toll on a restaurant situated on a mountain summit! The food, ambiance, view, servers, and bar completely make up for the lack of outward fanciness. Two staircases lead up to the restaurant. Am not sure if it's ADA friendly, and I forgot to check if there is an elevator. The indoor portion of the restaurant is enclosed with large windows, so no matter where you sit, you can see the beauty of nature around you. Outdoor seating is ample, and has fantastic views. Would be stunning to be there while the sun is setting.
