On a visit to the Charlotte/Kannapolis/Concord area to visit all of the NASCAR Team Garages/Headquarters, we stopped into Old Armor Beer Company while exploring downtown Kannapolis. Our visit here was on a Thursday evening in July. We have been to this area several times, but never visited Old Armor until this trip. Typically, we find ourselves here in the mornings when it is not open. However, since we already had dinner and were looking for something else to do downtown at night, we stopped in for a drink. It appeared to be one of the few businesses open around 10 PM. As stated, this is located in the heart of downtown Kannapolis. There is street parking nearby, as well as parking garages. I do not believe Old Armor has their own dedicated parking lot. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that this establishment is dog friendly! We had our dog with us, and were happy that he could come inside and join us. This was actually part of the reason we chose to visit here, since we could bring him inside with us. We actually saw a few other dogs in the building when we first got there. The ambiance here was quite lively during our visit. It was line dancing night, so the entire front of the place was cleared out and full of dancers both young and old. There were a lot of patrons when we visited, but not so many that it was overcrowded. It was darker with some accent lighting and disco balls, which perfectly fit the vibe for the evening. To the left of the front door was an area with tables and chairs for those not dancing. There were also some cocktail tables around, along with more tables in the rear, and outdoor seating. This is a large space, and would have plenty of room for any size party coming in. Several TVs that were playing various sporting events hung around the perimeter. The bar was located near the middle of the establishment. Due to the dancing, we took our beers outside and enjoyed them in the outdoor seating. It was a nice night, and the outdoor space is a good setup. There was a satellite bar setup out there, but it was not in operation the night we visited. The wait staff at the bar were very friendly and helpful when we were ordering. We were able to sample any of the beers on tap before committing to a glass. I ended up ordering the Red Leg Corn Lager, and my fiancé ordered the Mango Tango Bravo. I personally had never had a corn lager before, but it was nice and crisp, and something I really enjoyed! Something I really admired about this business was their commitment to the armed forces, police, fire, and other essential responders and personnel. They had a pay-it-forward board for them, along with nods to those groups in both the theming and the beer imagery. We very much enjoyed our first visit to Old Armor. The beers were good, the staff were friendly, the atmosphere was exciting and the patrons of the place were all very nice. This is a great spot in the heart of Kannapolis to enjoy a drink and take in the atmosphere of downtown. We will definitely be returning on our future trips to the area! read more

We were in Kannapolis and stopped in for drinks and some food. Old Armor is a large taproom with indoor and outdoor seating. There was a beard competition in process when we arrived, so it was a but chaotic walking in because it was being held near the front entrance. Most of our group had the Charlotte Hornets Stinger Ale - $3 a can, but they had a large variety of beers. They are focused on honoring honor veterans and first responders , which is evident throughout place. They are located across from Kannapolis Cannon Ballers Atrium Health field. We ordered some food, which was a bit confusing at first. There is a kiosk in the corner, you place and pay for your order and you receive a text when it is ready. We split a Protein Bowl, which was better than we anticipated. It was packed with rice, lettuce and beans. It also had a significant amount grilled chicken drizzled with avocado lime crema. We stopped in to hang out and watch a football game. The beer was enjoyable, but I don't know a lot to describe it. The staff was so friendly! I highly recommend stopping by when you're in town. My dog Kirby was even able to come in to join us. They have a couch to sit on that she particularly liked. We will definitely be back! read more

Had a wonderful day in Kannapolis with my girlfriend and her parents recently. One of the highlights was stepping out of the heat to grab a drink at Old Armor Beer Company! It is located right in downtown and is a beer lovers paradise as they have a lot of fantastic options. They aim to honor veterans and first responders and it is very clear that they have a lot of pride in what they do and their core values. They even have a pay it forward option that allows people to give back to the military branch or first responders of their choice. They do not serve food, but they have a large taproom with both indoor and outdoor seating, as well as a lot of unique and local craft beers, so it is a great place to stop in for a drink before or after dinner, or a Cannonballers game. Kannapolis has a charming downtown, and Old Armor definitely contributed to the allure. read more

Just a few months ago you could literally order food from Chophouse directly to your table in the bar; now they won't let you being anything in (either the brewery or the cider house next door). What was once a gem on West Ave has really been showing its ass lately, and with the food Hall opening up at the corner soon I can't see anyone wanting mediocre hot dogs from an overpriced cart. Talk of the town is that the management has been in disputes with competing food trucks on the street being "too close" to theirs (despite the city issuing permits to set up the trucks on West Ave) and also a dispute with Sabor due to a sewage problem on a shared wall (both businesses lease the space). There's another bar a couple blocks up on Main St, folks, and they're not taking shots at other local businesses. read more

A great corner brewery, with ample outdoor seating, a small indoor stage for live music, and the ability to bring your own food. First trip there, being a Vietnam Veteran I support a veteran when possible. The IPA was outstanding. My wife's Philly cheese steak was one of the best. The atmosphere decor was filled with a military theme that I loved. Food ordering kiosk was challenging and I have been working with computers since the mid 70s. I love hotdogs. I ordered a dog with mustard, onion and slaw. I got a hotdog with a ton of mustard, onion circles that were to be used on a hamburger but no slaw. I asked the person from the food stand about the slaw. Was told they were out in an unfriendly voice. No slaw should have been noted on the kiosk. Guess they tried to make up for no slaw by adding so much mustard that the dog fell out the bottom of the bun. Both the dog and bun were slightly burn. The more I thought about the poor dog and no slaw, I needed to make a statement and requested a refund of my $0.50 for the slaw I didn't receive. The food truck said I would have to get it from the bar. Told the young lady behind the bar about no slaw and more mustard than bun. Instead of being understanding, she said some people like more mustard than other people (this was a mustard sandwich). It would have been easier to say that she was sorry. But no, she acted like it was my fault. I hope the $0.50 goes into their retirement because with service like this they will need it. read more

There's a lot of local breweries popping up around the area but there's a few distinctions that sets this one apart from the others. The business was created by and operated by a small team of combat veterans. Their mission is to honor and give back to veterans and first responders. The place has a great atmosphere. The place is clean. The decor is kinda industrial and modern. It is very inviting and clean feeling. They have outside tables and chairs. Today there was a food truck selling kabobs that smelled delicious. They have a large selection of beers and wines. The beers are made on-site. I came in today for a bottle of blackberry wine they sell for Douglas Vineyards. Bitchin Blackberry is awesome and available for $18 a bottle. Go to their website for a menu of their beer offerings. The location is ideal. They are situated within view of the baseball stadium. They are also within walking distance of the surrounding downtown shops and businesses. We had no trouble finding a parking place. This place is pet friendly! While I was there I saw four well-behaved dogs on leashes. They encourage their presence. I like that! read more

Writing this review based on their lack of communication. I participated in the Veterans Day 5k 2024 and was promised a tshirt because they did not order enough. This was one of Kannapolis' first great venues and first brewery and started out as a great place to go. Since, the establishment has not only went to war with each other but also has went to war with every other establishment around them that they don't own. They have become very selfish and very controlling over whose cups or food comes near their doors or patio. I remember when we had options with a variety of food trucks and the option to bring in outside food but now it has become this dictatorship where you are disrespectfully approached and are forced to leave the premises over anything they do not like. You are forced to only use their food truck which is mediocre at best and their beers have become ridiculously priced. You can only get domestics downstairs starting at 4pm and you have to keep going back downstairs to get more if you are upstairs trying to watch entertainment. Only things we enjoy here now are the bands and the fact that they do serve liquor but that can get very pricey if you aren't paying attention. For a veteran owned establishment they do not care about people in general, even the ones that are veterans as we shocking discovered just recently. One of us is a veteran and it made no difference in how we were treated during a recent issue we had with our food and bill. Like most businesses they are in it to get rich. It's not about helping or appreciating those who served. It is their way of marketing and profiting off of our service members. And I know the owners are vets but that does not carry over into being good people. After all they were or still are suing each other. Too many complaints recently about the ownership and management over the same things and no effort to change them to say these people care about the customers. We will still venture in occasionally but we will not be weekend regulars anymore. Too many other places around to have to settle for disrespectful treatment read more

Im new to the area, moved in from California. I stopped by to ask if they have lemonade for my son. The bartender lady was making me repeat myself like I was speaking a different language. A looser at the bar engaged in talking with the bartender was laughing. I'm familiar with this kind of rudeness. I have an accent because I'm European native, meaning I speak another 3 languages. Had a great experience at this brewery. The bartenders were great with helping you select which beers they have that fit your taste. I had a flight since it was my first time there to get a sense of the type of beers they have. I enjoyed all the beers on the flight but the 110 was my favorite. Great place to meet friends and watch a game. It is right in front of the new stadium downtown. I am sure when the baseball team is playing this will he a hot spot. We have loved seeing this place grow over time. It is now a cornerstone of the community and we are grateful for it! We love going to their events- especially their Oktoberfest... or Kantoberfest rather. The staff is always friendly and eager to meet our dog. There is always something going on there from something simple like their bloody Mary's on the weekend during brunch hours to karaoke to bands on the weekend. They have even started playing football games on Sunday. I just hope they have the draft on this year! We usually take our friends down when they come to visit and everyone always finds a beer they like. This place has a great atmosphere and allows you to pay it forward for a veterans drink which is a great touch, as it's veteran owned. I will say they don't let you bring in outside food any longer or even order from chophouse like they used to. It is a change but understood so you can support the food trucks that they bring in. I write reviews in bullet points. Really cool atmosphere. Industrial style bar, tables and chairs. Staff is friendly and attentive (considering it was a pretty busy night). Decent location, it's awesome for me because I live 5 minutes away, but parking seems like it may be an issue on a really busy night. Now for the important part. The beer. I had the 5.56 and It. Was. Choice. Very good IPA and their pride in their work is evident. My wife isn't a beer drinker so it's nice that they had wine and a cider option (Bold Rock). No food but they have local restaurants that deliver (Flying Buffalo and Main Street Pizza). Overall a great addition to Kannapolis and I hope to return very soon. read more

LOVE LOVE LOVE this brewery!! The owners are amazing, the atmosphere is industrial but comfortable & the best part: YOU CAN BRING YOUR DOG!! They don't have a kitchen, but they do have amazing food trucks that they partner with who sit curbside and have fresh food made on the spot! (you can even bring your own food or order from a great selection of restaurants in the area who provide delivery!) Another plus: they have Growlers you can take home with your favorite beer. The beer selection is phenomenal - something for everyone! I haven't had a taste or glass of anything I didn't like. Their shwag is also super cute and stylish. I honestly don't know a single thing I DONT enjoy about this place. Oh! The beer is good, but oh my, the pricing. I stopped for one beer and a growler fill (my growler), $33.00!!! Sticker shock, asked how much to fill a growler, $24.00!!! Certainly not market price, so $24 for a growler fill and $9.00 for a beer, I'd expect those prices at a Panthers game, not at a brewery in downtown Kannapolis. I'll stick to the LKN and CLT breweries going forward. Shame as it's a cool spot. (Update), these folks (Kyle) reached out to me to make this right.
