    Beer taps and liquor selection

Cute neighborhood bar with some decent beers and a large selection of whiskey. The Gaelic Alley is small but inviting, and the bartender was friendly. They don't have food, but they allow you to bring in food from the places nearby. They have some outdoor seating in a small area by the front door.

This pub was very authentic to Ireland pubs. Comfortable bar stools and very quaint. The bartender was friendly and the bourbon selection was great! The downfall is no food. Yes, there are food places around but eating out of a styrofoam dish isn't my idea of a lovely dinner. I was really looking forward to Irish stew or bangers and mash. Pick up food before going so you can enjoy hanging out here.

I got fish and chips and unfortunately, I can say I've gotten better at Applebee's. Our adult children were joining us for dinner and luckily they were late so we ordered when they finally got there we told them to go somewhere else to eat. Our tab was $59.08 and we left a $10 tip on the table. I won't ever go back. when you're Irish and you have a mammy and an aunt Katie, you know how this food is supposed to come out, I was raised on it, thought we were going for some comfort food with my people and boy, was I disappointed. They were out of shepherds pie. That was probably a blessing. The staff was pleasant enough, but not very attentive. Somebody did ask me about my food and she even noticed that my husband's plate didn't look right, but she never made a reappearance. if you order tea it's gonna come in a bottle, if I was told that or if I was presented the bottle unopened, I would've declined it and got a Coke. Was it an off night? No, I think that this was standard operating procedure by the clientele that was in there and I guess when you don't know any better you think it's great, but when you know better, you know it's well below par.

The pub is in the basement of a building which is not always a good thing but in this case, it worked well! The spiral staircase added character to the pub and the character kept on keepin' on as we entered the restaurant. The inside is brick and wood which gives a pleasant dive feel. The staff was friendly and we were seated promptly. It was around 7:30 pm on a Saturday evening so it was pleasantly uncrowded. We ordered Irish potato soup, fried cheese curds, the Reuben on sourdough bread and fish n' chips. They were all amazing!! I had the soup and it was delicious- it was their take on French onion soup with potatoes and carrots. They always have it so if you like soup- GET IT! The cheese curds were legit- the cheese was tasty and the breading just right. My wife ordered the Rueben on sourdough instead of the offered rye. The sandwich was a classic Reuben which my wife liked so much that I had to have a bite. It was great! Plenty of corned beef and hash with a sauce that added the right amount of tang. My son ordered the fish and chips. The fish was outstanding and my son and I both agreed that it was as good as fish that we had recently had in London- awesome! One note about the fries- the fries were scrumptious and came in a shape that seems like they shaved from a potato rather than the usual shape of a fry. The shape was neat but the taste was no joke- delicious. Oh, and if you like sweet tea, they have it.;) Overall, it was a great dinner in a great place with friendly people at a fair price. Now we know where to go the next time we are in Hickory. If you live in the area and haven't tried McGuires, do yourself a favor and go!!! Thanks, McGuire's Pub!!

We decided on the their appetizer sampler just to get a feel for their food, and it wasn't a great feel. The wings were burnt, Maybe that's their "style" but it didn't work. They were so dry. The shrooms had too much breading and were also overcooked, thought at least not burnt. The mozzarella sticks were actually decent. The pretzels was good, but some awful beer cheese. I had two of their IPA's and I did enjoy those. Unfortunately not someplace I'd go back to unless someone assured me it was better

Indeed, if the cold North runs through you veins, you'll find house beer and mead aplenty to wet your whistle in an atmosphere that while housed in a modern shopping center, is still somehow appropos. Unfortunately, I had driving to do, so alcohol wasn't in the cards, but the menu appealed to us. We needed some comfort food, so we ended up with an appetizer sampler that included a baked pretzel, jalapeno poppers (instead of the fried ravioli that I guess they were out of), buffalo wings, and mozz sticks. We also got a pizza from the current specials, the spicy hawaiin. We like pineapple on pizza, and definitely prefer pepperoni to ham, and this also included jalapenos... so it sounded right up our alley. FYI, there are no waiters, you simply order at the bar, and they give you a numbered buzzer to pick up your food when ready. I greatly prefer this way of doing things honestly. For the food, honestly... a mixed bag, hence the one star off. The pretzel was great, probably the best of the bunch. Jalapeno poppers were nice and large, good flavor balance of cream cheese and jalapeno. Mozz sticks were mozz sticks. We didn't care for the wings. For one, they weren't tossed in the buffalo sauce, it was just poured over the top, and they also were a tad dry... maybe fried too long. The pizza was a letdown, especially since other reviews were so complimentary of it. The slices were very floppy, it maybe could have used a couple minutes more. The cheese had a nice flavor, but the sauce was not either of our preference. Could have used more pineapple, less jalapeno to balance the bites. Overall, we didn't finish it, and didn't take the leftovers for later. It could just be our personal tastes, so go and decide for yourself. Outside of food, it was trivia night, and people were having a great time. We would have taken part if we were staying longer. I think if I lived in the area, I would still come here, and just figure out what food items are the ones to get and which ones aren't. Great atmosphere, friendly bartender and people.

Start the meal off right with some Patatas Bravas. Double-fried potatoes with a tasty salsa and garlic aioli. Those went by quick! It's savory with a hint of spice. For the dinner service entrees, the real winner is the Fish and Chips. It's a huge battered haddock fillet over a bed of fries, accompanied by cabbage slaw and tartar sauce. Don't forget the malt vinegar to pair with the fries! The haddock was done perfectly, as it was both crispy and juicy. It was filling, but not over the top. Quality over quantity for sure. The chicken tikka masala is also a nice touch to the menu. A bit different from the rest, but not overly left of field. It was spiced to be flavorful but not overpowering. The chicken was nice and tender. The herb rice was decent, but still paired well as a sidekick to the tikka masala. Feeling desserts? Leave some space for the tuxedo cake. It's very rich and a solid bite to close out the meal. Shoutout to the wonderful waitress who executed everything without an issue. Reservations are recommended. I'll certainly be back.
