Solid local brewery with consistently great beer, food, and friendly service! A must visit!

Today was my first time at Southern Strain and I will be back. We came for March Burger Madness and to try somewhere new and local. We will definitely be back. Great atmosphere and decor. I love exposed brick and there's plenty of it here. On to the food. I had the Life's Gouda with Bacon burger (2024 Winner). Phenomenal. The bacon jam elevated the flavor profile. My boyfriend had this year's competitor, Ham Jam. I tasted it and the spicy mustard overpowered the flavor of the pulled ham and burger. Half could be put on the burger and be just enough. It wasn't bad but definitely second best to my burger. read more

The beer is fine, but the food here is mediocre. The options are limited and on the pricey side. We got the wings the last time, although they seemed overpriced we decided to try them anyway. When they came, they were so incredible small they barely had any meat on them, and for the price this seems unreasonable. On another visit we sat outside and got absolutely eaten alive with mosquitos the entire time. The waitress was aware and brought us some rosemary, which helped, but this also tells me that this is a known issue going unaddressed. The atmosphere here feels a bit cold on top of all this and albeit it's not a bad spot, there are many places that are a better spend of money than this one. read more

Came in with my daughter on the day of the "strawberry" special. I thought there would be a little more to offer as far as the menu but the options were ok. I got the strawberry vodka drink which was good for the price. My daughter ordered a sprite and was handed a can. Nos straw, no cup with ice. We had to ask another bartender or manager to please give us one. We went to the food counter and ordered the strawberry glazed ribs and the chicken strawberry sandwich. The ribs were cooked well and tasty and the chicken was ok. The potato salad was delicious. All in all it was an ok time but felt more like a cafeteria than a bar or restaurant. I'd go back for both food and drinks. Also, I went on the 13th, my card was charged on the 15th and there's still a pending charge. I tried calling but it went to voicemail. Hopefully I can get that sorted out with a call back. All in all, not bad. Love the location. read more

Cozy and lively brewery with great food and unique brews! Service took a bit long but overall had a great social experience with my team here. They had live music as well with a fantastic guitarist and harmonica player. 5/5 - Life's Gouda With Bacon - Star of the show in our dinner. I can see why this was award winning. The aioli and Gouda cheese gave this dish a unique taste profile! 5/5 Nach-Yo Dip for 2 - Crispy chips that tasted fresh. The best part was definitely the dip. It was savory, sweet, and had a perfect blend of ingredients that made it hard to stop eating. 2/5 - Southern Fried Chicken (not pictured) - mashed potatoes and collared greens were very tasty but the chicken was quite salty. I'd recommend lessening the strength or time of the brine but overall the chicken was still cooked well. read more

This brewery is a little off the beaten path... but we thought it was worth it. It may not be off the beaten path actually.... it may be we just didnt know where we were since we were in from out of town. They have their own parking. The interior is very nice. Spacious, several tvs, booths and tables and also bar seating. We did not have a bad beer there! The bartender gave us some recommendations and he was spot on for us. He was very nice. A unique brewery in downtown Concord is an amazing space!! Housed in a repurposed abandoned textile mill the inside is open and inviting. They have a few rooms that offer different "feels" plus a big outside patio. The beer flavors rotate in and out and they have Coke products as well as a few alcoholic cocktails. BUT the real gem is Southern Strain Eatery. The food is inventive and made to order. It's not cheap but it is good!!! This visit brought in for the Cabarrus County Burger Madness. Their entry is the Ham Jam. It was a solid entry! And I need to mention the staff is ALWAYS friendly and helpful!! read more

Finally got my husband to take me here again. I needed my burger aficionado to try their burgers here! He loved the gouda burger. He said it's #2 to Afton Tavern. We sat outside to enjoy the sun and relax with sipping on the Easy Breezy. It's like a super light blue moon prefect for summer. I had the burger bowl. The burger that's up for the burger madness. It was a lot of burger. Great flavors. I felt like the brown gravy was not needed. Staff was great and friendly. you just start a tab and order beers at the bar. And at the food counter you order your food on your tab. And they bring you the food. Super easy. Can't wait to go back. read more

The beer is great, bartenders are friendly. Food is hit or miss but the customer service at the food counter could improve. Food is expensive and they won't cut it for you or modify, which is not great if you have kids. Hoping one day my experience with the kitchen will improve. read more

We were heading to Concord and wanted to find a local brewery. We were fortunate to also find this year's Best Burger in Cabarrus County at the same location! This brewery maintains the charm of an historic mill and served up a variety of beer and food (no truck, they have their own kitchen). They even have a playroom with cornhole and a mini golf hole. The beer was enjoyable and there's a wide variety of of options from hazy ipa to farmhouse ale to lager and even cider and seltzer. With tvs, a band, and games this is a place you could enjoy some beer and food and hang out for several hours. I look forward to returning when I'm in Concord. read more

Absolutely loving this place. Just touched down in NC about 3 weeks ago from SAn Francisco. Been doing the grandma (Ya-Ya) thing since. Needed to get out and see some things. Found out there was a brewery in Concord hosting live music. Just had to go check it out. This was an amazing and great idea. Met some awesome people and the camaraderie is contagious. Will definitely be back. Had 2 Czech Pils brews and I have to say, I wish they had it in stores. But, that just means it is worth me driving 41 minutes for. Went last night with my husband and friend. My husband ordered the food at the counter. After about 45 mins of waiting he went up to check on the wait and to make sure something wasn't wrong with the buzzer thing. The girl behind the counter tells him that there's still going to be another half hour wait. After 45 mins the buzzer goes off and I go up to the counter to get our food and I was told my buzzer going off was a mistake and there are still orders in front of us. I asked them if they knew that the food is going to take so long, why don't they tell anyone? The blonde behind the counter says " we told everyone single person that it's going to be an hour wait" I explained to her that if she told my husband that we would have left, and he was never told that. And, the cook was standing there in the window joking around with the two girls through the window, all while nobody in the restaurant had food on their table. No apology AT ALL! No manager coming out to handle anything...nothing! Just horrible attitude from both of the girls behind the counter. When I returned to our table to tell my husband what was said he went up there to get a refund. Then there was finally a manager addressing the situation. Never again. We were starving at this point and looked for something close. We went to Hawthorne's Pizza where we felt like we had red carpet service. They were welcoming even though they were closing soon. THEY know how to take care of people, go there instead, you will not be disappointed! read more

Southern strain obviously has a strong selection of high quality beers; but don't sleep on their food selections-executed at a high level, and priced very fairly! Everything from their burgers to their salads are top notch quality-a great atmosphere as well! read more

I had no idea Concord had such a nice brewery! Tucked a few blocks from downtown it's a great brewery that has been open for about 3 years! Inside is nice and open. It has such a great vibe. We had flights so we could try different flavors. They have Lagers, IPAs, Sours, and more. Fuzzy Sweater and OK Lunch were 2 of my favorites. Hot Box Next Level Kitchen is inside the brewery. They have great food. They ran out of burgers so we settled for quesadillas. Delicious. I am so glad to now know this brewery is in Concord. I will be back! read more

What an awesome brewery right in concord! Great atmosphere, great service, and great beer! Can't forget about HotBox Next level kitchen located inside too! Made for a perfect evening for a lowkey night with the girls! I ordered a flight since it was my first time there! Local vein and fuzzy sweater were my two favorites I also tried all three of the IPAs and I was not disappointed! The staff was very knowledgeable to help us decide which beer to choose for our flight and I liked that they were open later than the other breweries around and their kitchen was still open close to closing! read more

The place was well kept and very nice. The appetizers were extremely overpriced and the nachos used very weird cheese. Almost like cheese wizz. The burgers were excellent and the staff was very friendly/helpful. Be warned an appetizer, burger, and at least two beer for two people will be over a 100 bucks. I love the beer here and come often. had planned to stay for a few today but on Sunday you can ONLY order from the brunch menu until like 2 or 3 o'clock and I didn't want anything on that brunch menu and they wouldn't make anything from the regular menu not even a pretzel. so we left after one beer and went somewhere else. I think you shoukd change this and make the brunch menu optional because you lost probably another $30-50 we would have spent today. read more

Was invited out recently to check out southern strain and I was very impressed! I love the old brick building that was converted into a brewery and the inside is huge! . The beer was amazing and I got a flight which let me sample tons of beer from them, I especially loved the cherry lemon sour and the hop helix ipa . Service was excellent, quick and very knowledgeable and answered any questions I had. They also have a kitchen there whipping up plenty of good treats. I enjoyed stopping at this new brewery on my way back into town. I found the atmosphere warm and inviting. There was a good crowd in this family-friendly establishment. The television was turned into the Panthers game and a small band rendered music on this football Sunday. I am not much of a beer drinker and instead, opted for a Mimosa. The bartender was pleasant and efficient. This was a worthwhile stop on my way home! Actually, I visited this brewery to check out Hotbox Next Level Kitchen. There is a parking lot next to the brewery that probably fits about 30 cars. The taproom is nice, open, and spacious with several TVs. It'd be a great place host a large group or to watch a game. They have about 8-ish different beer options, with several being ipas. I tried and enjoyed their stout, which had rich flavors of chocolate and coffee. They do have several nonalcoholic options: sodas and kombuchas. The bartender was nice and friendly. There are no food options at the moment; however a pizza place is coming into the space next door sometime this fall. Check for food trucks beforehand if you're going hungry. read more

I've been here a couple times and I've enjoyed myself each time. The first time i came they had live music, the artist was so good! She was playing the drums, harmonica, guitar, tamborine and singing at the same time.. How Sway?!! I also came on a Wednesday because I saw that they had "Mingo" which I assumes means Music-Bingo . The host gave us sheets with song titles and as you hear the songs you circle them. I had a ball on the Luda-Nelly-50 Cent part. I even won and got a shirt from this spot! The beers here are really good and I kept ordering the same two, the Prototype Version III and the Hop Helix. There's a kitchen In Here tooooo the Hot Box! Food. Well it's good but way over priced and probably because it's separate from the brewery. Quality is good. Beer- is good beer. Lots of IPAs and sours. I like it a lot. Service is good. Never any complaints. Atmosphere is an old brick building just outside downtown concord. If it was close it be way better but everything seems to be spread out. The clientele seems to be older and family orientated. Not somewhere I wanna get a group of friends And have a sailors mouth on a Friday night lol but hey, it's cool place ! read more

Good beer, friendly service, love the food truck concept inside as well, that was very cool. The vibe here is chill, with a very expensive thrift store attached. I was nervous touching the $200 t-shirts. Beer was easy drinking, clean finish, and no noticeable off flavors. Very impressive for the small brew area they have. I wish they had more options with the amount of draft lines they had but they can only do much with the space they have. Overall it's a good, local spot and I look forward to returning. read more

Stumbled upon this place while traveling back home. My wife and I were a little hungry and it was the only brewery that served brunch. The spot has a great ambience and the beer is really tasty. We liked getting to hear the live jazz. However the food was so-so. Definitely would go back for the beer though. Thankfully they are dog-friendly. read more

Southern strain brewing company is the newest brewery in the area, I stopped by for the grand opening to check it out. They didn't yet have their register system up and running, so you had to get drink tickets outside, but I'm sure this was good for the busy grand opening since it keeps the bartenders moving along more quickly. There is a parking lot around the corner, so you don't have to worry about on street parking. The taproom layout is nice and there's a decent amount of space inside. In one corner you will find an old school ball rolling type game, not exactly sure what it's called, but it looks like fun. There are also a couple of old school arcade games in the taproom if you are feeling nostalgic, but I didn't play them, not this visit anyhow. The patio is decent and has enough room for bands to play, or for you to hang out with your furry four legged friends. They have a decent beer selection, though I hope to see the number of offerings increase in the future. They do offer several non alcoholic beverage options such as sodas and kombuchas. The beers I had were all excellent and I'm looking forward to my next visit to try some others. I have no doubt that this place will do very well and I'm looking forward to many more visits. read more

Went last night for their grand opening. Very knowledgeable staff. Beer was good and cold! Wasn't impressed with one of the bands playing but very well designed Brewery! Very warm and welcoming! Food truck outside was mediocre. Was told that they were on limited menu cause they were building a kitchen inside. Hope they step it up a notch. My wife was displeased by our seating choice, a weird man with his arm in a sling at the bar farted and we had to move. Otherwise had a great night! Definitely try them out but don't sit bye a guy with his arm in a sling! read more
