As I neared the windows, I saw that there was actually a business in the building. Having had an antique business myself in NY, I was looking forward to visiting. That ended as soon as I opened the door. My friend and I were not greeted by the rude gentleman who sat behind the desk. He didn't even respond when I complimented him on a piece. There were two items I wanted to purchase but decided I'd rather deal with people who know how to treat their customers. A friendly demeanor, a knod or smile acknowledging someone has entered your store, can actually produce a sale. Merchants in town agreed that many complain about him. I was out just riding around to check Essex with few friends, I been to his store when he was in Clinton and bought from him there. I was glad to say hi to him again but the last time I was at his store was 5yrs ago and time goes by fast. I wasnt sure what he had in this store but when i walked in I knew had some real nice pieces and answered my questions on what I wanted to know more about. David has a nice collection of Glassware from different styles and ages. Im a rare book collector having been in that field from my work for about 30yrs. Ive now been buying nice and affordable antique furniture and from what David has its reasonable. Been to few other Antique stores but all I get is they came from another persons Estate and didnt tell me much other than that. A hard-to-find type of curated, small shop, more geared towards people looking for real antiques instead of the usual mishmash of "collectibles" and vintage you'll find in most places.  The knowledgeable owner has a hands-off style but is very willing to answer questions and help if asked. read more

I spoke with the owner briefly, while checking out. He told us that he is currently housing the goods from the previous owners on the second floor. You may remember Everyday Treasures, as the place with the female pirate, swinging from the front tree. You definitely won't find any swinging pirates here. While I enjoyed being able to walk around with ease, I missed the piles of stuff to explore. I missed the excitement of the hunt. The previous owner always knew exactly where things were, even if you had to dig a little to find them. If you're looking for a clean and somewhat stuffy atmosphere, then this is the place for you. The vibrant antiques scene that existed on the Shoreline a decade ago has been steadily dwindling due to eBay and 1st dibs, but there's still a handful of lovely shops around. One of our favorites, Old Beautiful, has moved to bigger digs in an antique Greek Revival house in Clinton. Poke around in here and you'll find plenty of goodies for the holiday table: stacks of ironstone plates and soup tureens, shelves of copper molds and pewter chargers, lots of assorted pressed glass goblets (I'd love a dozen of these in mis-matched shapes and sizes), flint glass decanters and cabinets bursting with earthenware. Owner David Perrelli specializes in pre-civil war American antiques and his eye for unusual early portraits and gangly-legged side tables is spot on. read more

This was such a beautiful and rare gem to stumble upon! I recently was able to spend some time exploring antique stores around the shoreline, and Old Beautiful was the absolute best. I was greeted by David, the shop owner, and he was impressively helpful and knowledgeable about some ironstone I was interested in. He helped me to make a purchase I know I will have forever and was overjoyed to find. This is not a shop for people interested in knick knacks or faux vintage wares, this is the real deal. Each item is meticulously chosen and the owner clearly has a fantastic eye. I was so relieved to find this shop after spending time in other "antique" shops that left much to be desired. The store is definitely full of beautiful antiques and art. I can appreciate the quality of the pieces sold here, and the fair prices on them. However, I find it difficult to support this store as the owner is very rude to potential customers. It wouldn't hurt to greet customers, or respond politely when they have questions for you. read more

Walked in on a Sunday and the guy in the store did not greet us even though we said hello or really acknowledge us at all. We then said thank you and have a good day and nothing, didn't look up from his computer. We were interested in a painting however not interested in buying from someone so rude. Won't go here again and we shop in Clinton area a lot for antiques. read more

While the store is lovely and has beautiful pieces the owner or whoever was in the front room is EXTREMELY rude. No greeting when you first walk in and barking at us as we were reading the tags of the history of the furniture. I can't imagine purchasing from an establishment that treats customers in such a nasty way. Such a shame. read more

Old Beautiful is the best antiques store on the shoreline, hands down. It specializes in American and English antiques from the 18th century, with a bit of inventory from the 17th century, and somewhat more from the early 19th century, that harken after their 18th century antecedents. The owner, David Perrelli, has an encyclopedic knowledge of American and English decorative arts, based on many years of study and collecting. When he acquires a piece, he researches its provenance, so you know a lot more about what you buy from him than you would from many other, less-knowledgeable dealers who tend to date things by guesswork, which can sometimes be fairly accurate, but more often is not. In all of our years of buying from David we have also been struck by how conservative he is in his pricing, tending to reduce what he asks for a given item, based on any visible blemishes or wear, that, in our opinion, enhance the piece's interest rather than detract from it. These are antiques, after all, and the patina acquired by centuries of use is one of the very qualities one seeks. The selection in Old Beautiful is quite extensive, as well, from large pieces of 18th century mahogany furniture, to the smallest forged iron cooking utensils. One can find portraits in original frames, rare textiles, exquisite English brass candlesticks, and New England six board chests with their original red paint, faded from centuries of use. If you cannot find a piece at Old Beautiful to enhance your collection, you aren't trying very hard! It is a collector's shop--no junk or bric-a-brac anywhere to be found. Old Beautiful is an amazing shop for the lover of early American antiques. I have found so many absolutely wonderful things that now adorn my antique home.... from paintings, ironstone platters and export china to old oriental rugs. There isn't a room in my home that doesn't have something (or two or three somethings) from old Beautiful to make it special. David is constantly adding wonderful pieces to his inventory so you have to pop in frequently or follow him on Facebook or Instagram. I'm not sure how he finds these treasures but I'm glad that he does! You won't regret a poke around his charming shop- you might even leave with something you will treasure for years to come! read more

Old Beautiful is a delight. The contents of the rooms of the first floor are the stuff of dreams; I cannot overstate the transportive quality of warming yourself before the hearth, surrounded by household implements of the last 350 years. This is a shop for the discerning -- no flash or trash. The owner, David, is generous both in terms of pricing and knowledge, without being overbearing. If you have a question or need help, he's there, but otherwise doesn't intrude. David's depth of research on each item in Old Beautiful is truly impressive and you can always trust his assessment. Pricing is more than fair, and I often wonder how he can survive charging what he does for objects of such rarity and beauty. Old Beautiful is the only reason to go to Clinton, and I've heard rumors of a move -- without him, you could skip the whole town. An absolute must for a visit. read more
