We wanted barbecue for dinner and it would have been easy for us to just take out from our usual place, which is always good. But for some reason, I decided to check YELP. And we are really glad that I did. The food from Old Blue BBQ is amazing. We ordered way too much (which is not unusual for us) and everything exceeded our expectations. We started with Moinks- their appetizer consisting of meatballs wrapped in bacon and covered with barbecue sauce. As delicious as it sounds. We ordered ribs. Perfectly cooked with a char covering really tender meat that fell off the bones. Not fatty or greasy like other barbecue joints' ribs are. They were basted with Old Blue's Texas Espresso Sauce, a spicy, sweet alternative to the usual sauces. (They have an assortment of sauces available, ranging from traditional to vinegar-based to Alabama White.) We also ordered the Chopped Brisket Calzone, a baked dough pocket stuffed with brisket, Texas Espresso, cabbage slaw, and mac and cheese. It was accompanied by a side of pizza sauce that we didn't even bother to open. The flavors were so bold and the combination of textures so perfect that we didn't want to take a chance of ruining it. We ordered sides (because what is barbecue without sides). The greens are spicy, cooked with chipotle peppers. The mac and cheese is creamy and rich without being overwhelming, But the miracle side was the beans. I hate baked beans! But I could not get enough of these. They're made with peaches (!) and they're sweet and smoky. If I had to find a criticism it would be that the sides are small. But next time, we're just going to order 2 of each. Note that Old Blue BBQ is primarily a catering company and, at least for right now, it's only open for take-out on the Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. They're located in an industrial park on Eisenhower Avenue and they only have a small awning that's easy to miss. But it's well worth driving around the parking lot a few times! read more

My wife and I were married earlier this summer, and through her Arlington contacts we were fortunate enough to find Old Blue BBQ and have them cater our outdoor wedding. We simply can't say enough positive things about Kelly and Stephen - they and their staff worked tirelessly to make sure we felt comfortable about every detail, and they over-delivered on everything promised; it was a flawless event for over 200 guests. Most impressive was the food itself: the sea scorpions and bacon-wrapped jalapeño poppers were crowd favorites, but even the simple yet elegant cheese and fruit plates got rave reviews. The pulled pork and brisket were some of the best we've ever had, and the mac n' cheese was absolutely perfect. We loved everything, but even more satisfying was hearing numerous guests say it was some of the best wedding food they'd ever had. Been meaning to get around to this for awhile. I think this was the "serves 15" platter. I can't remember, but I do know I thought hmmmm is this enough? And it turned out to absolutely be plenty. And it was ready on time, delicious, and overall a great experience. I thought it was also well priced. Tried this over the weekend since we live a couple blocks from this place. Service is super friendly and helpful. Just call in your order and call them when you get there. We actually ordered right outside the place. It was our first time and I think the owner/chef saw us outside and just took our order. We got the brisket and Brussels. Sooooooo good. Along with shredded chicken, beans and Mac and cheese, we had a 110lb pig roast, which Old Blue started roasting at 4:30am, instantly became my death row meal (not sure if they'd cater for that but worth asking). Family and friends wouldn't shut up about how amazing it all was. The service: Rachel took our account from the start, easy to reach at all times, very quick to respond, extremely professional and helpful. Kari was our on-site manager, she took on the task of making sure we could focus on our wedding, family and friends, killed it, didn't worry once about the 130 people we had to feed/entertain. The night before the event, our rental company failed delivering the linens, Rachel and Kari saved the day and got us some last minute linens from another company. OK, This BBQ is amazing. For those that know my love of eating and creating BBQ, this is a big deal for me to give a BBQ place 5 stars, and Old Blue does and did not let me down. They catered my step daughter's Bat Mitzvah and were fantastic with their support. The staff was professional and friendly, they kept the lemonade and tea flowing, and the food.... oh the food. Adults were going back for 2nds and 3rds (which you don't usually see at an event like this), but they couldn't help themselves.
