She worked with us on the menu to accommodate different needs and stayed energetic and helpful even after several changes. Ordered for delivery. This is the best BBQ I've found in the area. The pulled pork sandwich was bigger than usual, with plenty of meat. The meat itself is very flavorful. The bacon wrapped chicken skewers....don't know who thought of this but I'm glad they did! I am not usually a fan of sweet baked beans but really liked the bourbon peach beans. Not overly sweet. Really, really liked all the different sauce options b/c I prefer mustard or vinegar based. Overall, we will be back! I've been to my fair share if BBQ restaurants and tons of restaurants all over NoVA, but I've never felt the need to write a review until now. I came into Old Blue BBQ extremely excited due to all of the overwhelmingly positive reviews, but if the score is an indicator of anything I was greatly disappointed. I ended up getting the $100 dollar family pack to try a variety of their different options, and my friends and I all shared the same conclusion. The brisket was bland, the BBQ chicken tasted boiled with inedible chewy skin, the bacon wrapped jalapeño poppers had absolutely no bacon flavor, the mac and cheese had zero seasoning, the green beans were boiled to hell and back, the Brussel sprouts were very salty, the picnic slaw was plain and not the tiniest bit refreshing, and the corn bread was like any other standard store bought corn bread. The best part if this meal were the ribs, because at least they tasted like something. There were also no smoke ring on any of the meats unlike all of the pictures posted here on yelp. Last minute Corporate lunch for 10 persons. I had to plan a lunch for the next day and came across Old Blue BBQ. They had catering packages which include everything i needed, with easy options. Shannon was quick to reply and walked me through the options. Everything was done in one phone call. Delivery was on time, and the set-up person did everything. Plates, utensils, heating rack, and best or all "Take home containers" for leftovers. I ordered for 10 people, but we ended up with 11. My wife and I couldn't be happier about choosing Old Blue BBQ to cater our March wedding. Kelly was amazing from the start. She has a real knack for planning and I can 100% say that she was a huge factor in the wedding running smoothly. She helped us plan and decide on things that we hadn't even thought of, from table linens to the table layout in the venue. Of course, the food was phenomenal as well. Deviled eggs are a favorite in my family, so the bar was set very high, and they were a huge hit. We were lucky enough to have Old Blue BBQ cater our wedding this summer, and we simply can't say enough positive things about Kelly and Stephen! They worked tirelessly to make sure we felt comfortable about every detail, and pulled off a flawless event for over 200 guests. We have a family bbq catered this time every year, for my daughters birthday. We've used several local bbq places and Old Blue is among the best. We setup for 25, and had about 20 show due to the snow. We had a few tri tips, green beans, and one piece of chicken left. The baked beans, pulled chicken, Alabama jerk, and salmon were particularly awesome. Setup was fast and efficient. It was a bit more expensive than others we've used, but the food was great. Old Blue BBQ recently catered for our July Wedding and it turned out amazing. Kelly is a true rock star and her staff is very professional. The food was delicious and the only thing better was the presentation, I wish I had a picture to attach to this review but our wedding was country themed and the presentation fit perfectly. They truly exceeded our expectations. Her staff works as hard as she does and they never stopped moving, they set up all of the chairs for our guests at the ceremony on a hill in the blazing heat, they were constantly busing plates for our guests, helping with the bar tending duties, they stayed until the very end (well past the contracted times) and cleaned up the reception as well as took down the chairs from the ceremony. We had such a nightmare time finding a caterer to fit in our budget, most of them would either not serve the food and clean up or they wanted at least $100 per person. Some were very rude and others wouldn't even return our calls. From the moment we met Kelly we felt at ease, she did everything possible to work within our budget and we immediately knew we needed to book Old Blue BBQ for our big day. Kelly, we can never thank you enough for the tremendous job you did preparing and executing for our wedding, it is truly an event our guests will remember forever. I arranged a school's "end of term event" for our faculty, staff and their families in Cabin John Regional Park. This is a group that attends a lot of catered events at the university. I consider them moderately difficult to please and incredibly likely to complain (and I still think they are great!). No complaints about Old Blue BBQ. They are still raving! People who couldn't make it to the event are now upset that they didn't reschedule other activities. I think Old Blue may have now set expectations too high! Let me also say that Kelly was incredibly quick to respond from the beginning. She was flexible, offered alternatives and worked within our budget. I usually hate to share my budget thinking I will get a better deal through bargaining. In this case, I felt just the opposite. We got an incredibly good package for what we could afford and were still able to accommodate food choices and necessities like vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, etc. They also were really great about helping us with a bar even though we supplied the alcohol. Kelly continued to stay in touch up to and including an unexpected traffic delay on the day of the event. The Old Blue BBQ on-site team could not have been any more gracious or helpful. They went about their own work efficiently and professionally, plus they checked in with me and my boss about placement/location of stations, etc. They worked through out the event to clean table and assist participants. The day turned out kind of cold and they were trying to think of ways to help keep people warm and eventually built a small fire....literally going out and foraging for sticks to use as fuel. It was above and beyond the call of duty. Naturally, what made it all so special was the food itself. We had pulled chicken, sliced brisket with burnt ends and the Santa Maria Tri-tip along with peach bourbon baked beans and Texas Caviar. Sauces were Kansas City Sweet Sauce and Texas Espresso. Everything was delicious and there was plenty of food....oh, not to mention their standard inclusions of picnic slaw, house-made sweet pickles, sweet buttermilk cornbread and sandwich buns. Everything was great, my personal favorites were the burnt ends with the Texas Espresso sauce. The presentation was great, everything was labeled for ease of access and a server answered questions. We were really well served and extremely happy with Old Blue BBQ. I've given out their contact information to several faculty and staff.
