I was in the area visiting a friend, and we decided to try Old Bukhara for lunch. It ended up being a fantastic meal. We ordered a pumpkin samsa, an order of beef manti (5 pieces), and the Samarkand plov. The pumpkin samsa was delicate and flaky, with a filling that struck a nice balance of pumpkin and seasonings. The beef manti were exceptional. The dumpling skin was super thin yet held the flavorful broth and tender meat inside. The Samarkand plov came with a generous amount of meat--a mix of beef, lamb, sausage, and two quail eggs. All of the meat was tender and not fatty. If I had to nitpick, I would say there could have been a bit more rice for balance, but at $23 it's hard to complain considering how much meat they give. The restaurant is pretty small but has a warm, inviting ambiance, decorated heavily with traditional Uzbek metalwork and textiles. For two people half of the food was enough to feel full, and we ate the rest for dinner. Altogether the meal came to a little over $50, a great price for the portions and quality. I'm from Queens and Old Bukhara easily stands alongside the best Uzbek spots in Rego Park and southern Brooklyn. read more

This is a fairly decent and authentic Uzbek place. The food is tasty and traditional, feels homemade and the real deal. The place is tiny but does have traditional ambiance and a second floor for larger parties. Lots of foot options and you will be stuffed. Parking is limited if you come for dinner on the weekend. We come here almost every two weeks and it never gets old. For some high quality meats and grilling at a shockingly fair price, Old Bukhara is the traditional, authentic family dining experience that feels novel in this day and age. The Combination Kabob platter (chicken and beef recommended) is a must order. You'll seldom have such succulent cuts of meat that hit the perfect amount of char flavor. You can't not get their fries, which must soak up all that delicious meat flavor The Sofi Plav is a classic that has to be tried at least once. The cute quail eggs lie atop a mountain of sweet and fragrant rice. For your first time there, I also recommend a selection of cold cuts. Unlike anything you can get elsewhere in Jersey. Follow these cold items up with any of their amazing soups! Frickadelli is as freaking awesome as its name implies. Now why is their pizza so damn good? Honestly, a restaurant that's not billed as a pizza place has no business showing up all the actual pizza places in the area (maybe even the state?) but there you have it. The flavors are less adventurous American staples to the toppings that will take you straight to Uzbekistan! The Hot Bukhara is our favorite but be warned, it is ACTUALLY spicy. While you enjoy your meal, you'll be treated to the grand hospitality of the servers and enjoy the beautiful decor on the walls of Uzbekistan. Hubs and I have been wanting to give this place a try for a while. We finally decided to do it one day after work. The restaurant is small, but feels very homey inside. Framed pictures and decorative plates adorn the walls, with various items from Uzbek culture on full display wherever they could fit. The tables are covered with white tablecloths and they have plush brown chairs that feel like furniture that you'd put in your house. The whole place feels very cozy and just like a warm hug. We ordered the following: Assorted Appetizers, which was a little bite of everything. Daughter liked it a lot. Everything was cold. Her favorite was the smoked cheese, which looked like little hot dogs. Hubs was pleasantly surprised with the mystery meat but wouldn't order it again because it was all unknown. But, it was a fun, challenging dish. Stuffed Eggplant - Hubs thought the eggplant was awesome. Daughter liked it and thought it was very cheesy and delicious texture. Combo platter-2 kebabs, house salad and sides of your choice. We got the beef, lamb and a side of old Bukhara fries. I was a little disappointed in the fries because it tasted like the usual fries I got elsewhere. But, I liked the kebabs and the presentation of it being served in skewers. 1 glass of homemade fruit compote-it was weird. Didn't know what the compote was made of. I was afraid to finish it but my cheap hubs did. LOL. Service was quick but we barely saw our server. Glad we got to try the place, though. read more

This was my first experience with Uzbek cuisine but it definitely won't be my last. The chuchvara soup was absolutely outstanding. The dumplings in the soup had the perfect meat to pastry ratio and a the broth was savory and had a pleasant dill flavor. Of the several dishes that I tried, my favorite dish was the Samarkand Plov which was super hearty and filled with tender meat. I'll definitely be craving that in the coming weeks So much flavor! We also order lamb short ribs and veal liver everything was cooked perfect and super flavorful. I just Felt like taking a gamble on a different restaurant today and this one paid off greatly. The dining area itself is cozy and has nice Uzbek decor. I got takeout but next time I would like to dine in. Will be back for sure. read more

How does this place not have more reviews? I had an awesome lunch here with my dad and brother a few weeks ago. Sophia was an awesome server and helped out with suggestions on kebabs, soup, and plov. Literally everything we had was delicious and really well presented. Standouts were the lagman soup, manti, and lamb kebab. It's a small restaurant so make sure to get reservations, or just be super lucky like me and walk in at the right time. read more

Tried Old Bukhara for the first time and found the food to super flavorful and delicious. I've never had Uzbek cuisine and this did not disappoint. Especially recommend the chuchvara soup, the meat filled dumplings are amazing. The ambiance is casual but very well thought out with lots of traditional decoration. The first floor dining area is a bit smaller, but the upstairs area can accommodate a lot more. The individual who served us was very kind and patient. Would definitely come back here again for the soup alone. read more

Last night was our first time at Old Bukhara, but I can certainly say it won't be our last... and we'll bring friends! We were greeted almost immediately, and made to feel welcome - we were about 15 minutes early for our reservation, and at first, I wondered why I'd been told to make a reservation, for the tables were all empty! Little did I know that there is a second dinng room. We were seated, and within a short time our waiter asked if we were ready - which we were not. He graciously gave us plenty of time to review the menu, and I took the opportunity to Google a few of the dishes. We made our selections, and had a slight wait for our appetizer, the Samsa, but it was a comfortable length of time - we never felt rushed, nor did we feel that the waitstaff was rushing. (All good.) The Samsa was wonderful... the waiter was a minute or two late warning us about the level of spice heat in the one condiment, but no problem - I liked it. Dinner was delicious. I had the Old Bukhara Jiz, and when it came to the table I was a bit dismayed. The meat I'd chosen was the filet mignon, and it looked as though it had been cooked beyond well done. To my surprise it was juicy, tender, and absolutely wonderful. My husband declared the tandoori lamb to be some of the best lamb he's ever had. We bypassed dessert - the dinner portions were generous - and the prices more that fair for the food quantity and quality, and the service was impeccable. I will echo the advice of another reviewer - make reservations. I'll add my own...take a small car. Parking is limited. read more

Terrible experience after I found a toenail in my eggplant salad and politely asked for a refund close to 10 times and the worker who was a he i didnt get a name ignored me and then immediately went to racism and said i was lying and that I was probably a Jew and I wanted money that's why I asked for a refund close sand then proceeded to make another Jew joke by saying that I probably want Pennie's in my salad and that iran is gonna bomb all of Israel. someone take this worker off of your staff immediately and just get a better staff overall. having a toenail in your salad to begin with is bad and then having to talk to a worker who went straight to racism was horrible and really upsetting. How does this place not have a single review... the food is so fresh and so good. The plov is next level here, salad fresh, kebobs are banging (not salty) kissed by coal fire. Good food. Tiny main dining room is tiny, 3 tables for 4 and 4 tables for 2. Apparently there is a second dining room, but I did not see it. The waiter was very good but not overly attentive. The wait for our food was longer than we would like. But the restaurant was almost empty at 5 on a weekday, so at least we knew our food was fresh. We went for the first time and were impressed. I had the Kufta (ground beef balls) and my husband had the Shepard's Bag. Both were delicious. The Tandoori bread was very good, with a great crust. The portions were not huge but were fine and the quality was good. We will be returning, I want to try other items. read more

The food is delicious! It is a little different from traditional Bukharian food, as it is truly Uzbek food, (they don't have leposhka and some other traditional cuisines). Prices are decent. The service could definitely be better but they are all very nice, warm and friendly. Overall, I would certainly come back here instead of heading to Queens when I am missing home food. read more
