Small town cafe with lots of character off the freeway in Rice, Minnesota. Lots of kvetch everywhere. They were accommodating our large bicycling group, sweaty after a hot ride. I didn't take lots of photos of food since the majority of riders did the all-you-can-eat buffet. Our food was good, plenty and even included a ice milk machine afterwards!

    Delicious eggs and hashbrowns!

I have had lunch here several times and I love it. Such good food and the staff was friendly. The atmosphere is one of a kind with many fascinating items that grace the wall. I love it!

The waiter was good, but the steak was cooked from old meat, grey all the way through and jiggled like jello. Unappetizing.

And I was on board. We made reservations without another thought. I ended up googling the menu and realizing my partner was a little off on what type of cuisine this was and I was in unfamiliar territory though still excited to try. We loved every second of our experience here! The decor was amazing, the service was exceptional, the food was to die for. They had a special Valentine's Day menu which included beef Wellington for two, so we got that. Asked if it had sides and they said no. I asked if a veg was possible, expecting frozen, microwaved bland veggies. We got beautifully roasted, seasoned veggies that were amazing. Plus the beef Wellington was melting in our mouths. Cocktails were also exceptional. We had an espresso martini and old fashioned which came with a table side experience. We ended our adventure with the sticky toffee torte which was another exceptional dish. Our server was so kind and so so knowledgeable about every item and restaurant in the owners catalog. Very impressive all around.

Tables all around the restaurant, including the bar, left from previous patrons. Looks like a bomb went off. After 1+ hour, most of the tables are still covered in dirty plates and napkins. It's not that busy, maybe 10-20% full from 8:30 pm and beyond. Vibes = 2/10. What about the food? I've traveled all over the Mediterranean and Middle East. I'd give the Shashuka a 5-6 out of 10. It was supposed to be served with crepes and I had visions of Saluf and Sons Yemeni restaurant in Tel Aviv (now closed). Here it was served with a French bread / hot dog bun. Crepe???? I guess French bread and crepes are from the same country, but count me as unimpressed.

I wanted to eat every item on the menu and had to limit myself so now I have to return at least 3 to 4 more times to order everything I would love to try. See my comments about the photos because that'll let you know just how delicious everything is. I also had the crab ravioli, and that was out of this world and then the rabbit pasta dish was also quite tasty if you like that kind of game (not pictured). My mocktail was refreshing & the decaf coffee with dessert was the best decaf I remember having. The restaurant was packed even at early dinner and by the time we left, there was a line out the door. I don't see that very often anymore and I can see why they are going so strong right now. Great atmosphere, upbeat music pulsing in the background. People come here to celebrate and I got to sit beside people having an anniversary. It is so cheerful because everybody knows they're going to eat something delicious and they are right.

We arrived straight from the airport with our carry-on luggage, and the staff kindly took our suitcases and stored them at the coat check while we ate. It was a thoughtful touch that made the experience much more comfortable. The restaurant has a classic steakhouse vibe that's upscale without feeling stuffy or pretentious. It struck a nice balance between polished and comfortable. We were seated promptly, and our server was incredibly friendly and welcoming. I can't remember her name, but she did an excellent job throughout the meal. At her recommendation, we started with the Summer Heirloom Tomato Salad ($16.95), made with heirloom tomatoes, arugula, goat cheese, pesto, and balsamic vinaigrette. It was fresh, flavorful, and a great way to start the meal. For my entrée, I asked for another recommendation and ordered the Blackened New York Strip Steak Sandwich ($28.95), served with arugula, tomatoes, white cheddar, ancho mayo, and a side of fries. The steak was cooked perfectly, the sandwich was packed with flavor, and the fries were crisp and delicious. It was exactly what I was in the mood for after a day of travel. My colleague ordered one of the fish entrées and thoroughly enjoyed it as well, so we both left impressed with our meals. The prices were fair for the quality of the food, portions, and service. From the attentive staff to the excellent meal, everything exceeded expectations. It was a great first dinner in Minneapolis, and I'd happily return the next time I'm in the area. 5 stars

He ordered the Bone-in Chargrilled Ribeye with creamed spinach and dug in so quickly I didn't get a snap. I had the most amazingly delicious lamb chops I've ever eaten also with creamed spinach. Don't get me wrong, all the sides are tasty but their creamed spinach is my favorite. The char on the lamb chops was perfect, crusty and packed with so much flavor the mint chimichurri was unnecessary. I ended up bringing one chop and two bones home because I do not gnaw bones in public! :D The chops were cooked to a nice mid-rare and they were very juicy; definitely made me mumble OMG at my first bite. For dessert qRC was brought a birthday brownie slice with whipped cream and a candle. I had the Door County Cherry pie and the house-made pie crust finished with sugar crystals was so satisfying. Not too sweet and a nicely tart cherry filling made it delectable. Our server was excellent, never intrusive but always checking in and filling water or clearing plates. I'm mad I don't recall his name!

This is NOT a dark joint. It's bright and tables/floors are clean. Restrooms are ancient but painted while providing standing room for one person only. Try to "go" before you go to Frenchman's. Burgers are the backbone of the reasonably priced menu and periodic special offers are a popular choice. I had a Dill Burger (see photo)...fried, sliced, dill pickles and a dill sauce over what appeared to be a hand- formed burger. The server never asked about pink/no pink etc. and ours came out "no pink." The standard is a side of chips...house made would be a great difference. Service is just OK...the bartender was fairly busy with the regulars at the bar and never stopped by until we were ready to leave. Same with the tables around us. If you're looking for a new spot to hide out for lunch offered at a good price, Frenchman's might work for you. Enjoy it.
