The setting ranks right up there with the food and service. We thoroughly enjoyed our meals, including appetizers. The pimento cheese and fried green tomatoes were wonderful. Our group tried the salmon, shrimp scampi pasta and shrimp and grits. All great choices and was served quickly. Such a cool place. Can't wait to go back!

Wow what an amazing lunch experience. The owner Stan was so helpful and kind. This is by far the best lunch I've had all year. Chicken was delicious and fresh and the soup was truly amazing. I'll definitely be back for sure. Thank you

I was referred to this restaurant by the hotel clerk. He was spot on!!! I arrived just before closing and was seated without hesitation. The atmosphere was perfect quiet soft music so if you wanted a conversation at your table you could reasonably carry one on. Out came warm fresh bread with a plate of olive oil with salts and seasoning to dip the bread into. I ordered one of the specials tonight. It's a tenderloin with shrimp scallops vegetables searched over rice. It was fabulous!! So full of flavor my mouth waters now as I think of it. I rarely take food photos but I did tonight to share with my wife. If ever I find myself anywhere near here I will make a point to stop. Hats off to the chief and owner here this is a wonderful place for dinner!!!

I'm really kind of bummed about our experience here. It may be my fault, I don't think I ordered well. I had the BBQ sandwich, and quite honestly it was bad. It was over sauced and the sauce wasn't good. It came with fries and the fries were subpar. My husband however was happier with his food. He had the potato soup and half a chicken salad sandwich. We did have the fried pimento cheese appetizer which we both enjoyed. The old house that the restaurant is in is really beautiful- I just love historic homes! We would absolutely go back for dinner, and maybe lunch- I'll just have to do a better job choosing my entree.

That is not the same as knowing what they're doing. Plenty can make chicken hot. Fewer can make it memorable. Peggy's managed the rarer thing. This was the kind of fried chicken that makes a man quiet for a minute and reconsider whether he has properly valued his past blessings. They had other meats on the menu, and I do not doubt they were prepared by decent people with honest intentions, but ordering anything besides the fried chicken would have felt like showing up at a revival and asking for directions to a yoga class. And the sides, Lord help me, the sides were no afterthought. If I had not attended the funerals myself, I might have suspected my great grandma, grandma, and momma were back there in the kitchen, keeping an eye on the pots. Forgive me, Mammaw G, Mammaw, and Mom, but Peggy's had the better day with that chicken. I say that with love, respect, and a willingness to dodge a lightning bolt if one has been set aside for me. Fried okra, green beans, sweet potatoes, and mac and cheese, which any Southerner with good sense knows is a vegetable when it needs to be, spread across our plates like a family reunion of the righteous. The only medical advisory I'd offer is this: if your doctor has warned you against coating your insides with salt, you may want to admire from a respectful distance. And the sweet tea was right. Not tea-flavored water with ambition. Sweet tea. Properly made. The sort that lets you know nobody in the building is interested in modern nonsense. Next time I'm rolling down I-20, I may well make the turn toward Wrens again just to see whether Peggy's can do it twice. But judging by the regulars, the handshakes, the easy way the staff knew folks by name, and the fact they made us feel halfway local ourselves, I'd say this was no one-off. This felt less like a lucky meal and more like the kind of place that still believes doing something well is reason enough to keep doing it.

They recently got a new manager and chef who is making some very positive changes. Menu items have changed and the food quality has gotten better and better. They are expanding hours also so make sure you check on the times they are open. Also, there are times when the golf course is closed that results in The Grill closing also so I think it's a good idea to call them just to make sure they're open before traveling here. The kitchen is small, I'm told, which sometimes means the food takes a bit longer to come out but the prices are reasonable, the quality is good, and the staff are friendly. If you are a golfer, this is a great place to relax after playing a round on the beautiful Mount Vintage courses. Update: my wife, son, and I visited the Mount Vintage Grill last week after 9 holes of golf. It was around 4 PM when we sat down. Unfortunately, our son and I ordered a "dipping" sandwich off the "specials" blackboard which was supposed to come with an Au Jus dipping sauce. You probably know where I'm going with this but the sandwiches were delivered without the sauce. When asked about the sauce, we were told the chef hadn't mixed any up so there was none to be had! The sandwiches were sort of like Philly cheesesteaks and were OK by themselves but would have been much better with the sauce. Nicole, the server, didn't know there was no Au Jus made until we ordered our sandwiches. I like the Grill, and the new management is making good changes BUT this kind of event starts to turn you against any restaurant. Sorry, but don't advertise it if you don't have it. My wife and I will still go there because this is not the norm but I felt I would be negligent if I only reported on good things and ignored the substandard things.

As a business owner myself, I believe honest feedback--when delivered respectfully can be valuable. I shared my perspective because I want to see local businesses succeed. There are several restaurants in the Edgefield area that consistently deliver quality food and service. When I dine at places like the Pool Room or Mount Vintage, I know what to expect every time. Consistency and quality matter, especially in the restaurant industry. Unfortunately, on multiple visits to this restaurant, the food quality did not meet that same standard. I expressed this not to be disrespectful, but to offer honest customer feedback. My concern was simply that continued inconsistency in food quality can negatively impact any business long-term. I truly believe this restaurant may have been excellent in the past, and I also believe it has the potential to improve. Many diners-style restaurants serve outstanding food, and there's no reason this one couldn't as well with the right focus on quality and execution. The conversation was taken differently than I intended, which is unfortunate. Constructive criticism is part of running any business--especially in an industry where customer experience is everything. My intention was never to offend, only to offer feedback that could help the business grow. I wish the owner nothing but success, and I hope the feedback is ultimately seen for what it was: an honest effort to help.
