These have imported cheese from Europe, but the paper stuck to the Raspberry & Cheese pastry
    Michael K.

Dang. I wanted to like these so much, but at $5.50 per pastry, I just couldn't justify buying these again. I got sold on the cheese that he imports from Europe, so I got the two special pastries with that cheese. But the texture of the cheese is like mushy/crumbly with a taste almost like mozzarella and Swiss but blander? The raspberry one got the parchment paper stuck on it so I had to peel that off before eating it. It took like 5 minutes to peel off that paper with my nails. Pretty sure I still ate some paper. There's also nowhere to sit since he sells this stuff outside the door. There were no signs showing what each pastry or bread is, and no price. He explains what everything is though when it's your turn to order. But I won't be coming back. :(

We love Old German Bakery! The owner and his family are delightful and offer such delicious breads and pastries. There's so many savory and sweet, but not overly sweet options. Love to stop by and grab some of my favorites especially on the weekend. His small cart in front of the store is so similar style to shops in Cologne, Germany where they are from. I'm all about supporting local businesses and these guys have my heart

The food was really good and priced well. The shop guy was so nice I really enjoyed his service. The local of the place was very cute as well. The pastries are a bit sweet but nothing too crazy!

Mmmmm. Almond croissant = amazing. Strawberry cheese danish = spectacular. Friendly owner from Cologne, Germany chatting with us about her hometown = priceless.

I come here every chance I can when I am in hoboken. You can get cake slices and pastries without pre ordered though you have to pre order full cakes and of course by closing time most slices are sold out. I had the 4 layer chocolate cake and it was amazing. So light and not too sweet. Very delicate but hit the spot

My boyfriend and I got: Almond Croissant ($4.25) Savory leek pastry ($4.25) Cherry Crispy Chocolate ($6.90) Everything was "eh" :( Not entirely sure what the hype is here, but I have been told by my boyfriend that my pastry expectations are very high so maybe that's it? Very cute storefront though:)

Oh my. This has got to be one of the best, if not thee best apple turnovers I've had to date. We'd passed the bright colored cart outside the shop on our way to have lunch. There was a line, so I was curious. Made a mental note to take took a closer look on the way back. The interior of the store is closed off to customers, but there are some cakes in the store window. The cute cart is full of chocolate croissants, berry and cheese danishes, and these amazing apple turnovers. They were so perfect looking that I had to buy one. I'm usually disappointed in turnovers, because they're too doughy or soggy, and the fruit doesn't have much flavor. Nor does the gelatin that is used as filler. I told myself I'd only have a quarter of it and save the rest for later. I took one bite while walking to find a coffee shop, and it was clear this flaky piece of heaven on earth wouldn't last long. Whatever fat & flour they use to make these crispy, light layers of dough isn't your typical American recipe. It's just sweet enough without being over bearing, and the apple chunks are plump and fruity. I don't know why the interior is closed, but I would spend mini morning indulging if you could sit and have pastries and coffee inside. I highly recommend this bakery, and will most definitely get a chocolate croissant on the next visit.

stopped by here spontaneously on a Saturday afternoon as I've seen the cart that is the front area of their store, many times! I never had a chance to stop by, but there was no line so decided to see what they had. both staff I talked to were super friendly and patient in explaining german desserts, the light and not sugar-heavy flavors that their desserts have, which was just what we were looking for!! the coffee cake, chocolate mousse, and the pineapple papaya one I believe?? (something like that) were super delicious and just as described. they are on the pricier side at about $6 a piece and we ordered about 5 slices of their cakes, but they were super tasty so I'm excited to come back here to come and support a local bakery :)

This is by far the only place my mom approves for Black Forest Cake. They are pricey, but worth it for special occasions. The cake is so moist and flavorful! I like how the whole cake comes cut already due to the cake losing its shape if I cut it at home. (The owner suggests this to be cut by him)

What a delightful bakery! Loved their latte, almond croissant and pastries. Talk to the owner before you choose the pastries. He is very knowledgeable and will tell you all the ingredients and also tells you the ones he doesn't fancy and why. The place gets really packed in weekends. The almond croissant I had was so succulent and yum.

That was the best banana bread I've had, perfectly moist, love the dollop of icing too it was just enough if you wanted a tad bit sweeter for your banana bread but it was just right in my humble opinion! I spontaneously decided to give this bakery a try. I was originally hesitant to explore a cupcake that is a dessert version of fluffernutter sandwich. But, my gut instinct after seeing the cupcakes through the window was telling me that the dessert was on the money. Freshly baked in house, this moist vanilla cupcake is layered with peanut butter buttercream and marshmallow fluff. I enjoyed this "sweet" treat a lot more than I anticipated. It is recommended to have some napkins handy because the cream will most likely get on your face when you take a bite. The ladies working here were so kind and gracious about it, explaining how to order the cinnamon donuts in advance and they freeze well if you order a large quantity, so I purchased an apple cinnamon caramel scone instead. I ate it the next day and it was very good. I appreciated that it was a scone and not too sweet. There are chunks of apple in there with a definitive cinnamon presence. The caramel is drizzled over the top. It would go well with coffee or tea, particularly chai. There are other offerings here and if you see the cinnamon donuts, do not pass them up. 3.5 stars, but I am certain that could be revised upwards if I sample more of their baked goods.

It's super tiny inside and only 3-5 people can comfortably stand to order. We got a few cookies and were on our way! Their cookies are all in the ~$4 range which is pretty fair for these specialty flavors and good quality cookies. My favorites in order were the Classic Chocolate Chip Cookie, the Banana Pudding Cookie, the Matcha w White Chocolate Chip Cookie, and lastly, the Ube Cookie. The Classic Chocolate Chip Cookie was gooey, sweet, and decadent in all the right ways. I'm a sucker for banana so I very much enjoyed the Banana Pudding Cookie. You taste actual banana! This is 10x better than the one Magnolia Bakery has! The Matcha w White Chocolate Chip Cookie had a gentle bitterness/umami flavor that was offset by the sweetness of the white chocolate chips. The Ube Cookie was also good but surprisingly the ube didn't shine through as much here. All in all, you will not have a bad bite here and it's all a matter of preference. So glad I finally stopped by!

Place is a hole in the wall to the point that I walked right past it. Lone server inside was very friendly. Definitely a 'get your shit and go' kind of place, but what do you expect with Hoboken real estate. Got a red eye over ice, which was slightly burnt but still good. For food I tried the La Rustica sandwich, which has proscuitto, stracchino cheese and truffle cream on homemade bread. The bread was great and I could've had just that. Decent amount of proscuitto however the price ($16) justified that. Cheese didn't do much for the sandwich, as it was outmuscled by the proscuitto and just added a touch of cream. Truffle was similarly lost. All in all could do better, could do worse. Donut bites, on the other hand, were freaking money. Got 3 of the ones with custard and should've gotten a dozen. That made the place itself. Lots of other interesting things here worth trying. Wish I could a sandwich with mozzarella as there were plenty of others that looked good too.
