Asked the hostess if they actually served food and she said they were very busy. Thet did not appear to be that busy. Server brought us the check for the two drinks we ordered. Could not believe they actually charged us but I paid the bill and for the first time in my life, I did not leave a tip. They made no effort to correct the situation. My wife's previous trip there a couple of months ago with a group ended up with her trout not being cooked. She sent it back and everyone else had finished eating by the time her food was served. I went to Old Gilman Grill around dinnertime on a Saturday evening in July. Within minutes of arriving at the restaurant, I was greeted kindly by the hostesses and waited as they sat other tables. After being sat at the bar nearest to the host stand, I was extremely disappointed with the behavior of one of the managers of the restaurant. While I did not catch her name, she was short, had dark hair, glasses, and wore pearls and a cardigan. This manager approached one of the hostesses aggressively, scolding her for the dress she was wearing and claiming that a guest had complained that her husband was "distracted" by the high-school-age hostess' clothing. She berated this hostess, yelling at her to go home and change, despite the fact that the hostess' attire was more than appropriate for a professional fine dining setting. As someone with extensive experience working in the service industry, I was appalled and disappointed at this behavior. It truly made me sad. Such behavior on the part of a manager against a teenaged employee was one that my husband and I were appalled by. Such sexist, demeaning behavior to staff was a huge turn-off for me, leading my husband and I to leave after our appetizers, deciding not to order entrees at all. Such behavior makes me question if Old Gilman Grill is a safe place for minorities to dine. The rest of the staff at Old Gilman Grill was a pleasure, however. Bar staff was incredibly kind and the hostesses showed a lot of drive and resilience, especially in the face of such disrespect. While our drinks were fantastic and our salmon dip was decent, unfortunately it is evident that management does not treat their employees with the respect they deserve, a culture that is extremely evident to guests. I would not dine here again or recommend it, especially to anyone from a minority background. read more

Where do I begin? I have been hearing praise of this restaurant for a year now, and had such high hopes! I am giving two stars, but considered only one. Poor service is at the root of this poor scoring. Perhaps if our server had been friendly or cooperative or helpful, our experience would have been more positive. Thankfully the company was perfect and most of the food proved tasty. We had pimento cheese for an appetizer and enjoyed it. The remainder of the meal was good but not great. I was in town for the night and staying at the Westin, this place is literally across the street and has a cool atmosphere and decor. I started with the tuna tartare which was great and the. Hate to do it but highly disappointed in this restaurant. I ordered the shrimp and grits, and while the food was good it was sized for a 6 year old. I'm not a big eater and I am quite used to the "more you pay the less you get" restaurants but this was just silly. It's not a place that is at that level, and for $28 you literally get 3 shrimp, 3 tiny pieces of sausage and about 3 tablespoons of grits. Save your money and order the burger if you go. read more

We had dinner and were very impressed with the friendly and attentive staff. The location of the restaurant is also perfect because it's within walking distance of the Westin Hotel which is just across a small street. The restaurant is newer (2018) and decorated beautifully. The prices are reasonable. Choices range from steaks to seafood and club sandwiches. I had the chicken crepes and apple crepes and cinnamon ice cream for sharing at the end of the meal. By far the noisiest restaurant I have ever experienced. When we arrived a little ahead of our reservation time we were told there would be a 15-20 minute wait which in itself wasn't a problem except the small waiting area only had a few chairs and the bar seating area was full. In a short while we found seating at the bar until our husbands joined us. They went to the hostess station to check the status of our table and we're told we had been called several times with no response from us so our table was given to others. It was so noisy we could not hear our name called. Both bartenders were inundated with customers making it a long wait to order and even longer to pay the tab. We've been by OGG many times and have been meaning to stop for dinner. For some reason it's taken a while!!! I have to say we had a great experience! The atmosphere was much more posh than expected. Very clean but inviting. Our server was Jamie. She was great, very helpful but professional. She was attentive and there just when we needed her! The food was super and left nothing to be desired. Saturday was my first time eating at Old Gilman, I have purchased gift cards for others, but never indulged myself. I am mainly a vegetarian, but do eat seafood on occasion, I was there with a friend who also has the same dietary restrictions. She had been raving to me about the veggie burger and she was not kidding! I have had many veggie burgers at many establishments, and yours is absolutely the best! Loved the atmosphere! Old Gilman was pretty good. I've been eyeing their opening for some months, so I gave it a whirl. The first thing I noticed was that the ambiance feels like a lunch cafe, although I went for dinner. By that I mean that the decor is grade B, sterile and not as exceptional as you would expect for a new opening this area of Chattanooga. I ordered the charcuterie board for starters and it was generous in variety, except for the shaved meat category (only one). My dinner entree was the beef filet with asparagus on the side, both good quality but the hollandaise sauce was piled on thick and definitely not housemade, at least they shouldn't claim it as such. Waitstaff was kind and balanced in attention. I'd likely return, but not for a warm enjoyable dinner. Definitely for lunch. read more

Went for brunch, on a Sunday afternoon. Had a reservation. The restaurant was obviously busy, not packed but a lot of people. Got seated within 10 of our reservation, which made us optimistic because there were a couple other groups who had been waiting more than that for theirs to be seated. The service was quite lacking. Orders were taken but drinks from the bar took a very long time. It was apparent that there was only one bartenxer who was not only making drinks for the entire restaurant but was waiting on a bar mostly full of people with their food. Eventually the drinks came out. By that time we had all placed our food orders. The wait for the food was nothing compared to the drinks, which were very long. And I am not even sure it was the kitchens fault, there were party's who were seated after us with 5 or 6 people who were getting their food. At least two times the waitress told us that they were backed but that it was coming. When the food finally came, it was all good, and hot. The burger and the steak were not cooked to the temperature requested, but were still good. The three stars were for the food, but the service, bartending and clearly the management leaves a lot to be desired. This was disappointing because we have been there multiple times for brunch and dinner and even when busy things went well. This was most recently a month or two ago, so perhaps it is management issues, because they were understaffed at least with hosting and bartending, and that is management. If you can't handle the tables, don't take the reservations. read more

I was on a business trip and was recommended this restaurant. I ordered the tuna tar tar and became VERY VERY sick with food poisoning. It was so bad that I had to go to the doctor and get antibiotics in order to settle my stomach. I'm not sure what happened here but there's a million and one ways to serve someone a food item that has bacteria. For example: cross contamination, food not at the proper temp...and so on. Beware and don't get the tuna tar tar, you'll be as good as dead!! Called the restaurant a few days later and I notified the manager, he offered me to come back and have a stab at a second chance with death....no thanks!! In addition my coworker got the "prime rib" which was so under cooked and you could tell the seared steak was not freshly cut. Over all I was excited about the Atmosphere but the quality of food was lacking, very over priced, highly disappointed. I would recommend something else, anything else! read more

This is a fabulous restaurant in Chattanooga. I walked across the street from my hotel for dinner. They have an incredibly attentive wait staff. It was open to the outside which was the only negative. It was 95 out and it still was warm with the AC on. Also there were flies that needed to be swatted from our table. The dates wrapped in bacon with balsamic was wonderful as a starter. The roast chicken was delicious and my friend had the trout almandine and was delighted with it. The food was really good and I liked the decor. The staff was all very friendly but definitely seemed to be working some things out so it wasn't exactly smooth. I ordered an old fashioned cocktail (which is featured on the menu). Waiter responds: "how would you like that?" I tell him I've never been asked that, what are my choices? He was stumped. But that's okay, in the end I got a great drink. Then I order a steak and he moves on, so I chime in advising I'd like it to medium temperature (he wanted to know how I want my drink but not my steak??). He says that they make all their steaks medium rare, but he'll let them know my preference. It's fine if that's how your chefs want to do it, but you gotta let the patrons know that... if I hadn't requested it medium I would have been pretty disappointed. But as I mentioned the food and drinks were very good. I'll definitely return. One note: not a fan of the music at all. But it doesn't ruin the experience... just made us look at each other with a "what IS this" expression. read more

This was our first visit to The Old Gilman Grill and we were very impressed! The place is beautiful and comfortable. The food was excellent! I had the best French Dip sandwich! The only other that would compete you would find at a Houston's in Atlanta. My wife had the Macro Bowl with Salmon cooked to perfection.
