This was our first visit to The Old Gilman Grill and we were very impressed! The place is beautiful and comfortable. The food was excellent! I had the best French Dip sandwich! The only other that would compete you would find at a Houston's in Atlanta. My wife had the Macro Bowl with Salmon cooked to perfection. This place surely ranks at the top of our favorite Chattanooga restaurants now. We highly recommend it! read more

I'm from Atlanta and although I love a lot about living here- every restaurant in Chattanooga looks the same except old Gilman grill. In the heart of downtown Chattanooga across from the Westin hotel. It's a clean, sophisticated atmosphere- great bar in the center of the restaurant and a nice patio dining atmosphere. Apart from the great decor -the service is exceptional and the food is very wonderful. Our waiter was very attentive and helpful with wine pairing suggestions that I appreciated very much. The food- we shared the tomatoes and basil shared plate- very tasty and healthy choice to start your palette. I had the scallops with succotash- amazingly cooked with great flavor. Another had the tuna burger- he raved that it was delicious and his fries cooked to perfection. Lastly our party had the Kale yeah salad w/ grilled chicken with warm bacon vinaigrette. She said it was as good as she's ever had. Finished w/ warm peach crepe dessert. We polished that off quickly!! All in all a great, fun, energetic vibe. Will no doubt return!! Two stars only because they are new and hoping might get better. Our experience was bad all around. Started with inexperienced server and food was even worse. Tried a few small plates but crepes were the worst and as crispy as taquitos. Filling was tasteless mush and left them behind and went next door to eat. I really hope they get better but not planning a second visit to find out. read more

The atmosphere is nice and luxurious, the service is high quality. I enjoyed my cocktail. But, My scallops lacked the advertised "curry sauce" and had little flavor. They were oddly served with Lima beans and corn. It felt cheap. My friends prime rib was not rare, it was cold and raw. There were a lot of flys and bugs flying around the restaurant. It's more of a tourist trap because it's by the Westin hotel. I guess they don't have to worry about return customers. If you're visiting Chattanooga there are a lot better local options if you branch out of the west village tourist trap. read more

This is their first week so will give them another chance....but not sure what their food thing is. Sat at the bar on a fairly busy Wed...service was very good. Food was just average but not sure what kind of place it is...we had a shrimp cocktail...pricey for 6 avg size....and a rice bow with steakl that was dry and bland (We asked for sauce that came extra with a steak...better). Loved the atmosphere so maybe the menu is a work in progress. Probably try again in a month or two. read more

I just walked in there, waited patiently behind a man, who couldn't decide whether he was going to wait for a table, and, while I was waiting, the hostesses suggested the gentleman, his wife and his three kids, all of whom were under 10 years old sit at the bar. As a consequence, when I walked up to the bar, after waiting patiently for the idiot to make up his mind, and for the clueless hostesses to make a suggestion to let kids sit at the bar, rather than have a paying customer, there all the seats were taken. They didn't even understand what they were doing wrong. I am genuinely happy I didn't give them a penny of my money. read more

My daughter planned my birthday night on the town by making reservations for Friday night 6:30 on the previous Wednesday. We had 8 in our party which included my 3 yr old granddaughter. We arrived on time but were met with confused looks when we gave the reservation name. Could it be under another name? No, my daughter had spoken with an event organizer that Wednesday. The manager (J.U.) was brought in and still we were given nothing but shrugs and blank stares. I said we rarely come in to town to eat and it was my birthday but still no offer to make good or any kind of customer service was offered. This was a delight for a fast and delicious Sunday night supper. The deviled eggs were yummy and not too fancy for my husband. I loved the kale salad. From drinks to appetizers, main entrees to desert, Old Gilman did not disappoint. Rob, the General Manager, is the industry standard for service. Carrie is an awesome bartender who was very knowledgeable about all different kinds of spirits. Old Gilman is a great spot and I would highly recommend to anybody for any occasion. read more

We were in Chattanooga over Labor Day and I wanted a good steak. I also wanted to sit outside. We were lucky to get reservations. Great location. The absolute worst service that I have ever experienced. My husband and I sat at the bar on a Saturday morning. There were very few people in the restaurant or at the bar. When we first arrived at the hostess stand, a guy and a girl were there, and basically ignored us, so we just sat at the bar. When the bartender finally came to take our order, there was no greeting, smile or anything. We ordered bloody Mary's and Brunch. He went back to talking to some other staff, got himself a bottle of something that he was drinking, and wouldn't even make eye contact with us. After about 5 minutes I was finally able to get his attention and tell him that we would like our bloody Mary's before the meal, if that was Ok. I really think he just completely forgot. Someone else ran our food and he never checked on us once. I had to flag down the Manager to ask for more water, and told him that we weren't getting any service at all. Everyone was just standing around while the manager was doing everything. I gave them 3 stars, because the food was delicious. We had the Burger and the brunch breakfast, and everything that we had was great. It's just a shame that the horrible service had to spoil an otherwise nice experience. read more

Very pleasant surprise. We visited Chattanooga this weekend and stayed at a hotel near Gilman Square. We walked our Yorkie, Reese, and discovered The Old Gilman Grill. Very friendly staff, marvelous service including a bowl of water for Reese. Gin and tonics with bar pull gin were excellent. The French Dip sandwiches top of the line with artisanal horseradish and grilled asparagus. We sat outside across from the Westin Hotel. Many kudos to the wait-staff and efficient bussing. We spent $75, which included our $20 tip to our server -- a very gracious and helpful person. We've travelled a lot both in the US and Europe. I believe the Old Gilman Grill deserves 5 stars. read more

Very disappointed In our experience here. Our son and family came and did some heavy Construction work for us over the Thanksgiving weekend, and we wanted to take them to a nice steak dinner. When we arrived at 5:30, the place was almost empty, which was surprising for such an up-and-coming new area. I will say our wait staff were excellent! Just expected better food. I had the ahi tuna sandwich but was tough and lukewarm. My son and husband had the prime rib and They said it was "pretty good." For such a high-end restaurant, we didn't feel our experience met with our expectations. We will give it another try though, Because we believe in giving every new restaurant More than one chance :-) read more

Great NEW restaurant in West Village near Westin Hotel. Bustling after work crowd and a friendly attentive staff! Started with an Old Fashion w/Woodford was excellent. Celebrated my daughters 18th birthday and Gilman was her choice. She had Steak Frites substituting sautéed spinach instead of fries. My wife had Cabernet Braised Short Rib which was the winner. I had Baby iceberg wedge w/blue cheese & added steak. Finished w/Peach Crepes which was a perfect ending. Will definitely be returning here as the whole experience was perfect. read more

Had dinner at the Gilman Grill with my husband, and two others. Overall the food was good. My biggest disappointment was the atmosphere. The restaurant is very well decorated but it is was too lit up. When I go to this type of restaurant I would prefer to dine and not feel like I'm rushed. They really need to lower the lighting and slow down the pace. read more

Great new place to eat. We have enjoyed several visits. The Moroccan lambs crepes were tasty, along with shaved Balsamic Brussels Sprouts. The crepes are not terribly large, but the serving of sprouts was generous and filling and shareable. We finished off with their Carrot Cake with cream cheese frosting, which was a real winner and large enough for both to enjoy! Finally, sitting on their street level "porch" was very romantic, like a sidewalk cafe in Europe. We will be back! read more

Overpriced and over-rated. $43 NY Strip was served lukewarm and had gristle. Tuna steak sandwich was not seared well and basically flavorless. Arrived early for dinner (4:45ish)and restaurant was maybe 1/5 full- plenty of tables. Since we didn't have a reservation, were told we had to sit at bar. When we left-about an hour later-restaurant was still 1/5 full or less. Could have easily seated us at a table which we asked for initially. My husband and I enjoy our weekend getaways from Nashville, TN to Chattanooga. We always stay at the Westin which is close proximity to The Old Gilman Grill. This is our second time indulging in their brunch menu. The atmosphere is progressive and extremely nice. However, the food pales in comparison. The food is bland without flavor. We have the tried the Eggs Benedict, Salmon Benedict, Seafood Crepes and the Sweet Potatoe Latkes. The potential for this restaurant is endless. Our palettes might be spoiled with all the great food in Nashville. Unfortunately, TOGG is basic, ill prepared food with no flavor profiles. read more
