I love architecture and Old National Center is an iconic Art Deco structure in downtown Indianapolis. I have been to the Center numerous times and, today, we saw Blue Man Group perform. The staff does a great job of getting everyone inside and screened through security. I appreciated receiving instructions for entry via email in advance. The multiple concession stands are always offering interesting beverages and snacks. We picked up popcorn for the kids. The restrooms are clean. When I first came to Indianapolis, the building was called the Murat. Old National Bank bought the naming rights. The building and theater are fabulous with huge brass railings, marble stairs, beautiful stained glass windows and exquisite decor in the theater. The building was constructed in 1909 for the Indianapolis Shriners and has retained an amazing amount of original Art Deco features. Shriner, Oscar Bohlen designed the structure. The theater is the oldest theater in Indianapolis. As the building is mostly original, some amenities are dated. The (beautiful) railings on the stairs are low for the average guest. Restroom facilities are inadequate and certain restrooms were closed after the show. (This was a problem if you have kids and try to maneuver through crowds to find a restroom.) Balcony seating offers great views of the stage. However when performers enter the audience, as did Blue Man Group, visualization is lost and video monitors inadequately capture the performers. The single staircase is somewhat inadequate and cumbersome for guests exiting in the crowd, especially for small children or elderly people. Parking is challenging unless you repurchase VIP parking. My advice, arrive early to find parking. I love coming to Old National for programs and to see the building. The inconveniences posed by the building are tolerable to enjoy this historic structure. read more

MJ The Musical was great! The seats at Old National Center are small. I suspect they are uncomfortable for many of the patrons. The other issue was people bringing drinks into the theater. Having no place to sit them, the drinks are sat on the floor. During intermissions the floors were wet with spilled drinks. One patron's purse was wet. Need better seating. read more

I love seeing a show at the Old National Centre, whether it's at the Murat Theatre or the Egyptian Room. Ticketing and security moves quickly enough at the venue, as long as you arrive early enough for your show. Sometimes if there are events in both spaces on the same night, the line designation can get confusing so that is another reason to arrive early! They have many bar ordering stands around the entire venue to make it easy to get your refreshments when you'd like. Pricing is a little higher than average but not unreasonable. Murat theatre: I don't think there's a truly bad place to sit since it's not a huge venue. I've sat at the very front and back of the orchestra and on the balcony. In the order of preference, balcony, then orchestra front, then orchestra back will give you the best views in that order. The seats are all pretty comfy but the fold up seat part can be kind of loud if you have to stand in the middle of a performance. Intermissions are always exact to timing listed, so please be back at your seat on time! Egyptian room: I've been here for seated and standing room events. The seats are just chairs they bring out which are fairly comfortable. They don't have the best indication as to which seat is which, so arrive early to have an usher help you to your seat. My daughter and I attended the showing of Beauty and the Beast, for which was her first broadway show and while the show itself was great, our experience with security almost completely ruined the evening. Due to heavy rain and long lines, we placed our umbrella on a rack near coat check after being told it could not be brought inside. (Note we arrived 45 minutes prior to the start of the show). After the show, we discovered our umbrella along with several others had apparently been thrown away by a security employee instead of being placed in lost and found. When I politely asked about it, the guard immediately became confrontational, dismissive, and unprofessional, repeatedly stating he "didn't care." Several other guests nearby were upset over the same issue involving the same employee. I later spoke with venue staff and was informed that unattended items are normally placed in lost and found, not discarded. When I returned to speak with management, the same guard again acted aggressively and inappropriately toward me. The attached photo is the gentleman involved. I appreciate management taking the time to address the matter, and I sincerely hope this employee is no longer working at the venue because his behavior was completely unacceptable for a customer-facing role. Let me begin by saying that this review has nothing to do with the performances I have seen here. The past weekend was the first time I attended a musical at the Old National Centre. Before even getting inside the building, the security lines were an issue. There were two different lines you were able to go through, but they split at the entrance, so it was difficult to tell which one was more efficient. One side was quick at checking bags and items. The side I was on was not. The guy working it got 1 person through at the same rate the other got 8 people. One of the other security staff eventually recognized this and tried to amend it. However, her solution was to quickly wand the outside of the bags and essentially let people go without proper measures. I'm not a security expert, but something about it felt off. I was on the third-level balcony. There are no bathrooms on that level, nor were there any refreshment locations, aside from one small kiosk that only opened during intermission. This was fine, albeit a little tedious before the show had started. However, once intermission had come, the line for the bathroom on the second level wrapped like a snake around the area. There was a 20-minute intermission. When they announced that 15 were left, the bathroom line barely moved, my group made the executive decision to get a drink and wait until the show was over. We were waiting in the refreshment line for 13 minutes and barely made it into the theatre before the doors closed. The worker, bless him, was fighting with the cheese sauce for 10 minutes before serving the rest of the line. Back inside the theatre, the show began after intermission like normal. But, they don't allow people back inside the theatre until after a certain number of minutes (maybe 5? 10?). Once they opened the doors to those, it was like a stampede, and it greatly interrupted the show. I couldn't see or hear for a few minutes while it was all happening. I'm not sure if it would have been better or worse to let them trickle in. All in all, aside from the annoyances that were at no fault of the theatre, I had a good time! I would not recommend this location for musicals, but I have had decent experiences with concerts. read more

Let me start off by saying, the concert itself was good. Zack Fox was great, and I enjoyed his dj set. It was very live and the crowd stayed pumped the whole time. My issue was with the wait staff. I had VIP, club access. Upon arrival, there was an issue with my tickets not scanning properly with a issue through ticketmaster that Old National was able to resolve quickly and in a timely fashion at the ticket counter. My main issue was with the servers, because once I got into the venue and my party got to our seats we put an order in for food and drinks. About an hour an a half later, the waiter did not even come with the food but with 1 of the 3 drinks ordered. By this time no one wanted what they ordered. DJ Zack Fox's set had about 30 mins left. All the waiter could say was it was just her and no one else to take care of our section. If that was the case, then she should've let us know that before we ordered and informed us of the long wait time for an order. This was the first time I've experienced such poor service, hopefully this will not be a continuous issue and it improves in the future. read more

Up stairs is way better and larger and cleaner sounding while the basement is more local band vibe and does have its fair share of clarity loss at the higher volumes! Our final planned event for this year and this was my first visit to Old National. We were here to watch The Nutcracker ballet. We hadn't paid for parking when we bought our tickets but the church across the road offered parking for a cheaper price. Our seats were in the 4th row and on the left of the stage which were good seats though we all agreed next time, we'd choose balcony seats. We didn't get any of the drinks or popcorn on offer as we had lunch before the ballet. The staff were all helpful and friendly and they allowed our friend who had arrived earlier to wait inside until we arrived with the tickets. So far, I've only visited Old National Centre to see plays. I saw Hamilton and Hairspray here on two different occasions, and it was a great experience. A couple of things to know: 1. Drinks and snacks are hella expensive. If you have time before your play or show starts, go across the street and get drinks and a bite at Salt on Mass. You'll pay the same for food and drink that's 100x better. But if that's not an option, and you do get an adult beverage at Old Nation Centre, you can get it in a cool adult sippy cup-type cup with a lid. 2. The bathrooms are located downstairs. I've always opted to peace-out about five or 10 minutes before intermission to visit the loo before everyone else, because it's more important to me to not wait in line for the bathroom than it is to see that five minutes of singing or whatever before intermission. They have TVs showing the performance in the lobby, so you can see what's going on and not miss out too much. 3. Make sure you don't bring pepper spray into the theatre, because they will either make you throw it away, take it back to your car, or pay $2 to stow it. (Ask me how I know.) Those are all of my numbered tips. Other things to know: It's not too hard to find your seat because the theatre is laid out pretty clearly, but there are lots of people around to help you find your seat or direct you to the restroom or to the exits. Also, the theatre is beautiful and old, and there are art deco details all throughout, which makes your visit feel extra indulgent and fancy. read more

I took my daughter here for Bluey's Big Show. We ended up having a good time, but initially, I was not happy. I purchased front row seats, for close to $150 each. When we arrived, we found out that she could not sit in her seat and see the stage. Not only was the state too tall for her to see properly, but there were speakers that were blocking the view of the whole left side of the stage! I asked the attendant working for a booster seat so my daughter could see. She said the front row seats were not equipped for the booster to sit on. I tried to sit her on my lap, she still couldn't see. Heck, as an adult that is 5'8", I couldn't see! Eventually, I allowed her to stand up in the seat so that she could see. Once that fiasco was figured out, we had a pretty good experience. The show was fun and interactive with the crowd. The show was definitely amazing, but I will never go to an event here again. read more

A true Indianapolis staple. There's nothing I love more than going to see a show, and I've seen some of the best here. Top shows include a wide array the Broadway series that they host. The sets are always elaborate, the cast incredibly talented, and the theatre full. We saw Les Mis here most recently and loved every second. The seating was comfortable and the main theatre itself was gorgeous. We also went to a Ben Rector concert in the Egyptian Room and I loved how you could stand and move around during the show (there's no seats). This allows for the performer to move around the room and it felt like one of the more personal concerts I've been to. Amazing! The drinks here are really expensive, so I'd recommend getting drinks beforehand and then maybe only getting one at the theatre. There's only one bathroom in the building, so I'd also recommend going beforehand or dashing to the stalls during intermission or the line will be snaking throughout the building. Man, I miss going to shows and am so ready for COVID to be over so we can come back to this gorgeous space! read more

Went to see Cirq Christmas. I ordered tickets through Ticketmaster, early in the fall and I guess I just didn't pay the right amount of attention. We had horrible seats. My husband said that we should probably just go on home because we weren't going to see the production in its fullest and it was a waste to sit there. Out of nowhere comes this lady with a Live Nation Badge and says she has VIP seats in the mezzanine and that if we would like to upgrade we could do so for $20. This would include all VIP perks, bar, private restroom, coat check and private door out of the theatre. We jumped at it. The seats could not have been any more perfect! We thanked her at the end, because she made our evening. The Cirq ballet was cute for Christmas. Not Las Vegas but enough Christmas and costume characters to make it part of the season. I personally believe the road tour uses acts from America's got Talent, but I could not prove it. All in All in was a fun, festive evening. Will I make it a regular Christmas - to do, no but I wouldn't stay away if I hadn't seen it! read more

This is by FAR the best theater in Indianapolis. There is no question. Besides the actual building itself being a work of art, there are so many other wonderful qualities. I have been to the old national centre for multiple events. They have three concert halls: the deluxe (for smaller shows, located in the basement), the Egyptian room (for middle sized shows, located on the 2nd level), and the Murat theater (for large shows, located on the 1st and 2nd level, depending on the seating you get). Deluxe is almost always standing room only. The Egyptian room depends on the type of show- for example, for a comedian or podcast, there will be chairs to sit in. For concerts, it is standing room only. If you have to sit or just want to be fancy, you can upgrade your tickets to the riser seats. In these seats, you will have a table, chairs, and your own personal bartender/server. The food you can order from these servers range from bavarian pretzels, to whole pizzas. The Murat theater is literally a theater, so it is sit down only. On top of the shows always knocking it out of the park, the staff there is always SO friendly and professional. The bartenders are always super personable, yet quick! The drink prices are more than reasonable, especially compared to other concert venues. These bars are also EVERYWHERE. Seriously, they are even in front of the bathrooms! So dont feel like the first bar you see will be the only one. Find another and avoid the line! I would highly recommend seeing a show or 20 here, you won't be disappointed! read more

Beautiful building! You have to see it in person. I enjoyed the way it was set up and went there to see the Deck investigates a crime podcaster. The bathrooms are clean even though there was a concert going on for Hardy at that time too. We got through the security measures pretty quickly. My seat was great. The only thing I had issue with was the flashlights used to buy. The ushers were so intense and bright that it was disturbing. Have been to a few shows here, most recently Cirque Dreams Holidaze, and it is a pretty consistent experience. It was nearly a sold-out show for Cirque Dreams Holidaze, and I was surprised with how little they tried to monitor crowd control. People were walking in and out during the entire show rather than waiting for a number to be done/a pause. The bathrooms can be a little yuck when it is a big show. However, there is a bar for you to order a beverage during the show, so we'll take the highs with the lows. Be sure to leave your pepper spray in the car, as security does a good job of checking all attendees for any prohibited items! (Which is a bonus in my mind). read more

I visited Old National Centre for a Chris Rock Comedy Show. I took an Uber but there is plenty of parking around the building. Oh but beware, they now have a policy that you either have to have a clear purse or you can't have one that's very big. Be sure to check the website for the exact Size. One of the things when attending certain concerts, you have to lock your phones away in these little pouches which have a lock on it. This now includes not only the phone but also smart watches. So is why I give them 5 stars. When the concert was over I grabbed my cell phone outta the case but left my smart watch in the pouch forgetting I had it in there! I called the next morning and they told me they put their lost items on the website and to just keep checking for it to be shown. Two days later someone called and said I think we found your watch. Check the website and if so come get it. I checked and it was there!!! I was so happy! If a manager is reading this pleaS thank the staff that looks through those bags and thank them for being an honest person and not taking it!! read more

My absolute favorite concert venue! Recently I attended a show for the band Hippo Campus, which was incredible. This venue always goes out of their way to give guests the best experience! To start, the venue allows fans to line up super early to get in line for the GA shows. I even had an employee let us know of an additional entrance with a shorter line to get us inside quicker, so helpful! They are kind and patient with fans in line & always help with questions. Our show was in the Egyptian Room with general admission, so things get crowded fast. I was at the front of the crowd, and the security at the barricade was incredible. They checked in on fans to ensure safety throughout the whole show & even handed out free waters. Every time I attend this venue the whole night is smooth sailing! If you haven't been, I would definitely recommend attending an event here! read more

Such an iconic building in Indy and a beautiful concert space. They have several different rooms and bring all kinds of shows there, from concerts to musicals and more. They're a LiveNation facility so that comes with ticket fees but also a consistent checkin, etc policy. I recommend walking or taking a Lyft to get there because parking can be difficult to find and definitely not free. They do have a new bag policy so you have to either bring a clear bag or a small clutch size. I didn't know about that when I arrived, but they do offer a coat check which was so nice! I took an Uber so couldn't have taken my purse back to my car or home. I could leave my bag there for $5 which was much better than having to throw it away (like I once had to do at a Colts game...) They have a beautiful space and bring unique acts. They're in a great location with lots of food and drink options for before or after a show. read more

From prom, to concerts, to musicals , I've always had a positive experience at Old National Centre. The bathrooms have always been clean and the venue itself has always been put together. Old national plays host to a great number of events. I have to say in the nice weather check out the food truck fest. They also host many concerts! I never know which room I'm going to be in. This is the time of Podcasts so when I heard that my favorite murder was going to be in town, I knew I had to go! Since it was a sold out show I believe we were in the biggest theater, and even though I was in the balcony I could see and hear so well. Kudos to the staff at old national they are always very friendly amongst the chaos and will happily give you directions to your seat. It's a beautiful historical building its kept very clean and well organized. The show was awesome! I'm glad that they opened the doors early to allow people in with enough time to grab a drink and some merch and then grab your seat. Awesome place! I'll be back soon read more

The Phantom of the Opera, The Nutcracker, The Lion King, most recently the Mean Girls Musical are a few of the plays I've seen at Old National Centre. The building was built in 1909 and has so much history and charm to it. It's such a pretty building. When you walk in to the theater it reminds you of movies you see where people go and sit and watch the opera with those tiny little opera glasses while sitting in their own opera box. Although this theater doesn't have any opera boxes that I know of it has the chandeliers and red velvet seats to add to the charm. I always look if I'm driving by to see what is coming or is going to be there that night because of the nice big marquee out front. I can't wait to see another musical or play there again in the future! Oh, and only premium passes can park out front of Old National Centre. Lots of people had to turn around because we all didn't know that and they only had one entrance open. Metered parking as well as pay lots are within walking distance. read more

I am giving a 3 star review because while I do like the venue and find it visually appealing, some of the new policies are questionable. I fully understand asking for proof of vaccination or negative PCR test, although no other venue in Indianapolis asks for this, however limiting the size of a purse or stating that it has to be clear is a bit much for a music/theater venue. Furthermore, if you have a larger bag, you will be asked to check it and that will be a $5.00 charge. They will give you a clear backpack that you can put your purse contents in so clearly this is not about the contents of the purse, but rather that they cannot see through it. The clear backpack was actually the same size as my companion's purse, so for once, this wasn't really about size. They have also gone completely cashless at the concession stands, purportedly for our safety, but the tip jar remains on the bar with cash in it. Lastly, when going to all of the Broadway Across America shows, we have always purchased beverages and received a reusable, lidded cup. Now it appears that this won't be the case as I received an open clear cup that was very easy to spill in the crowd. I hope the carpet enjoyed the Jameson that it got from me. ONC or aka the Murat has been a staple in the music scene for years. I've been here to see tons of bands and musicians since I was a teen. The two main halls Corinthian and the Egyptian room are primarily used for live music. I prefer the Egyptian room since it holds more people and has a lot of beautiful architecture to look at including stained glass and hand made edifices throughout the hall. The Corinthian has a lot of space however the room has pillars throughout so it can sometimes block the stage depending on where you stand. The venue has elevators and areas for handicap access however it can be hard to find. I visited two shows this past week in the Egyptian room. You have to check-in with security, scan tickets and then you can enter. There are bars spread throughout the venue to order drinks and snacks. You can find restrooms on all the floors. You can hear the music and see the stage fairly well and I typically have a great time when I visit. read more

I went here for the play Wicked. I loved the play! I really like the nostalgic Old Murat as well. It feels good to be is a building with much history behind it. So overall, it was a fun night and I'd go back. But as a fair warning, things that I didn't like: - The seating is disorganized. A staff person shouting out instructions made us feel like were being punished. NOTE: look for chair number on your left when finding your seat. - Restrooms - good luck if you are going at intermission. You'd better run or there will not be time before the show starts. - Parking is difficult. Take Uber. - The shouting by the seating staff is a bit too much - They say to arrive 30 minutes early - Butter make that 60. Still I will go back. I'll take Uber or Lyft. We attended Moscow Ballet's Great Russian Nutcracker in the Murat Theater (capacity 2,500). This facility is unforgettable... The grand lobby with all the intricate details, the large stair cases, the various bars, great lighting... and that's prior to stepping into the Murat theater. The theater is just gorgeous... and sound is WONDERFUL... even from the very back, you have a good view and can hear very well. We love that there is an upper level bar and bathroom! Everything is clean and easy to manage around. Staff is friendly and helpful. Best of all... we are so grateful for the staff to allow the Girl Scouts group to have a meet and greet after the show... to be able to ask questions and meet two of the dancers was unforgettable and amazing! The Old National Centre contains three venues: The Egyptian Room, the Murat Theater, and Deluxe. I have written reviews for each of them you can check out. In general I will say that this is a Ticketmaster/Live Nation venue. Therefore, if you buy tickets online, you are going to pay exorbitant service fees. You don't have to be happy with it, but at this point you have to live with it. Similarly, every other aspect possible will be overpriced, from drinks to the paltry selection of food. But it is in a pretty cool area of downtown Indianapolis. There are some good restaurants within walking distance, and parking is generally not a huge problem. If a performer you like is coming through and you're willing to price, you'll have a good experience. read more
